G.I. Jane
In response to political pressure from Senator Lillian DeHaven, the U.S. Navy begins a program that would allow for the eventual integration of women into its combat services. The program begins with a single trial candidate, Lieutenant Jordan O'Neil, who is chosen specifically for her femininity. O'Neil enters the grueling Navy SEAL training program under the command of Master Chief John James Urgayle, who unfairly… From TMDB

JANE and I am really having uncomfy flashbacks to my childhood because my Marine vet father loves this movie (and STARSHIP TROOPERS) and his way of supporting his three daughters in sports was like valorizing these kinds of films?
unlabelledView post →Since I seem to be on a film night I am now watching G.I. Jane (1997), which I have never seen before ("but it's on Tubi," as my usual refrain goes). I'm coming into it with this angle: putting women into combat situations is no more laudable a goal than putting men or anyone into combat Its all bad

unlabelledView post →Other fun awards I gave Ridley's films. Most overrated is Gladiator, and his most underrated is Kingdom of Heaven (director's cut). The best Tony Scott film directed by Ridley Scott is G.I. Jane.
unlabelledView post →Didn't expect to write a super-long review of G.I. Jane (1997). In fact, I didn't expect to write one at all. I was just going to mark it as viewed but as I got to thinking about this film in the context of 2026 I realized that there was actually a lot worth remarking upon, so I wrote a long review.
unlabelledView post →I'm watching the movie 'G.I. Jane' for the umpteenth time and it finally dawned on me what the real lesson is. It's not sexism, equal rights, equal opportunity, it's about men who fear the power, intelligence and integrity of women.
unlabelledView post →LOL, you go girl. Just like the movie with Demi Moore, G.I. Jane.. Great flick if you haven't seen it
unlabelledView post →Ooh no! Close, though. So very close. Demi Moore brought us G.I. Jane, a film for which she buzz cut her own hair. “Shaving” Private Ryan was a pornographic movie, released in 1999, starring Mark Wahlberg and a young, ambitious Kate Winslet (pre-Titanic).
unlabelledView post →G.I. Jane (Demi Moore, Viggo Mortensen) They cut one scene down, and completely destroyed the whole point of the film. No wonder Ridley Scott hates editors so much.
unlabelledView post →I haven’t seen The Substance (I’m too chicken for body horror), but Demi Moore’s acting talent is underrated. G.I. Jane is a better movie than people give it credit for due to her performance (and Viggo Mortensen’s). She was very good in Margin Call too.
unlabelledView post →I'm going to sum this film up in one sentence: Has anyone done a welfare check on Ridley Scott lately? I cant believe the guy who made Alien, Blade Runner, Black Hawk Down, Hannibal, G.I Jane and Thelma and Louise had anything to do with this. Someone is making him direct films against his will.

unlabelledView post →Linda Hamilton!!! Fucking bad ass! But for me, G.I. Jane came out at a time in my life where it fired me up. I still can't watch that movie- to this day- without dropping down and doing a few push ups. No cap! It was on the Roku channel the other week and now I'm 11 days into a new program.
unlabelledView post →guy who’s only seen the movie G.I.Jane in theaters: I’m getting a G.I. Jane vibe from this
unlabelledView post →Please do not get me wrong, Demi Moore has been in the industry for over 40 years. She was in Ghost, Few Good Men, G.I. Jane, very, very strong roles, The Substance, she was to educated us (even in a horror film) that aging women in any INDUSTRY r looked down upon, discriminated,

unlabelledView post →G.I. Jane was a great movie in an era of action/drama/self discovery/fuck the machine movies. One of my favorites.
unlabelledView post →Lawd, G.I. Jane came out when I was in high school. What delightful experience seeing that in a dark movie theater was. 😏
unlabelledView post →G.I. Jane is such an oddity I can barely count it as a Ridley film. I kind of feel the same about Black Hawk Down: that's the best Michael Bay film directed by Ridley Scott.
unlabelledView post →Watched G.I Jane earlier (quid DVD from Oxfam) not bad film, Ann Bancroft in excellent slippery politician mode, falls apart with the finale "mission", contrived a la similar in Tony Scotty Top Gun. That action sequence is so badly directed by Ridley, camera zooming in and out constantly.

unlabelledView post →I finally watched "G.I. Jane" last night. It became a punching bag upon release, and I just never got to it. I think it's a solid movie, with a great performance from Demi Moore. The score is doing way too much, and Ridley Scott's final battle staging is surprisingly poor. But... I liked it.

Music is by Trevor Jones and cinematography by Hugh Johnson. A female Senator succeeds in enrolling a woman into Combined Reconnaissance Team training (Navy Seals)…
