60 of 304 · most liked firstMe and friends have been looking forward to this game for a while now, and yesterday, the four of us actually started a playthrough, but we couldn't progress properly, because the game constantly disconnected and kicked us out, and even full-on crashed a few times. Same room, same network, 3 well above average pc-s, and no matter if you were on wifi or cable, the game disconnected one of us almost every round of combat, so I unfortunatelly cannot recommend it yet, at least for multiplayer…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd hold off on this for now until the developers fix more bugs. The blinkblade, one of the six starting classes, is basically unplayable. Firstly, the cards are literally not represented correctly, so it is not actually possible to understand how the class works without referencing the cards from the board game. In the board game there are base parts of the card with slow and fast modifiers - the video game doesn't work like this at all and it has a slow half and a fast half. While that…

HOWEVER, I want to say that the changes done to the UI from the Gloomhaven video game to this have been about 70% worse, and 30% better. The art and visuals are beautiful, the models are great. The new intro is fun and good at teaching the game, and unique to the video game version. However, they removed the icons to show how many triggers you have on a buff card,…

unlabelledView post →I haven't played for nearly enough time given the calibre of this game, but I have so much love for Gloomhaven that I just wanted to write a quick review of my experiences thus far. Firstly, I like to consider myself a fairly seasoned Gloomhaven player. I have a couple hundred hours in both the online and physical copy of the game. I have never played Frosthaven prior to this. And for the first couple hours, I just couldn't get into this game. I found it way too overwhelming character wise…

unlabelledView post →Frosthaven the boardgame is an exceptional sequel to Gloomhaven. This Frosthaven client has a nice veneer, but the UI/UX in combat is awful. The bad UX is a consistent and frequent source of frustration in every session I've played. **UPDATE** After playing more missions, I wanted to add another point to my review: Many scenarios have special rules that require players to play a certain way, or to strategize a certain way. This Frosthaven client typically communicates ZERO of these rules, so…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot in good conscience recommend this game currently. While we've been playing 4 player games and most things work OK, the de-sync's and game breaking issues with starting characters is just a huge let down. Geminate and Blinkblade are both starting classes and both are handled horribly by the UI. The cards on blinkblade not showing the appropriate fast or slow numbers (just show both, why try and be fancy?). The Blinkblades fast specific traits not being shown on the card, which causes an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game and it's mechanics, great! The digital version (as it is now), not so great. Cards lack some crucial info and multiplayers keep getting booted out at random (literally just while looking at their cards during beginning of turn). We both have gaming pcs way above the game requirements yet lowering the graphics did help (a bit). Clunky UI or datamining, idk, but it's annoying. Annoying enough to loose interest in playing multiplayer. We played on Aug. 7th. They said they fixed the…

unlabelledView post →If you need to play this game digitally, just get Gloomhaven and play that instead. If you've already played Gloomhaven wait a few years for this to finish, and drop in price. Too little content of the actual full game for the price they are asking. I've hardly played this since the beta, and the UI and controls were very non-intuitive. I'd much rather just play in person.

unlabelledView post →All things considered, he did pretty well at his first game of Frosthaven. Only took a few redirects and he gave up on fighting monsters and had a snooze on the couch for the rest of the game. It was cute to see him run off with a Night Demon though.
unlabelledView post →As of right now, I cannot recommend this game to anyone except masochist and seasoned strategy gamers. The difficulty off rip is ridiculous, even on standard. I played Gloomhaven on Hard and found it punishing yet fair. This one just leaves you with no reprise. I've been stuck on the prolog mission with the "kill all enemies" objective but the Banner keeps summoning more. 3 new enemies every round after the first round is insane, especially with the seers stat blocks. I think the devs need to…

unlabelledView post →HUUUUGE fan of Gloomhaven, had the boardgame, and have finished multiple campaigns in the digital version. I was super excited for FH to drop... But I find it's unnecessarily complicated, somewhat confusingly worded at times, and seriously too hard. Like, genuinely unbalanced for early game. In a two person party, to be faced with "kill these 10 enemies" missions, with an effective game timer (structual damage, for example), when the enemies in question have better abilities and attacks than we…

unlabelledView post →This is, of course, not yet complete, but seeing what has been done so far, I have no reservations about recommending this to any fan of the board game version of Frosthaven or Gloomhaven. The features released have been reliable and accurate. One warning: Frosthaven is tuned to be considerably harder than Gloomhaven, so you may want to start on a lower difficulty.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frosthaven is an excellent tactical, co-op experience and a great successor to Gloomhaven. I unfortunately cannot recommend the experience in it's current state due to a number of infuriating issues. The UI appears to be designed for a solo-player experience, which leads to unnecessary time wasting particularly regarding short and long resting. The lack of quick undo's creates a frustrating experience that greatly hinder the flow of the game. Most infuriatingly, HALF THE SCENARIO'S HAVE…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't "Early Access", it's an alpha. It's impossible to get through a multiplayer session without game-breaking bugs. Embarrassing, because they had a great game in Gloomhaven, and I don't understand why the follow-up is so broken. This is the buggiest trash I've ever played.

unlabelledView post →This is a review of this game as a port. This is quite a bad port. As a game, it's fine. It's more challenging than a random tactics game and there is quite a lot of reward to communicating moves with players and cooking up some sick combos. There is more to say about this game as a game, but I will just get to my main gripe with it. As a port, it's awful. First is the terrible UI. There are quite a lot of actions that in a boardgame would be trivial but for whatever reason it's super tedious…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have mixed feelings regarding both the game, and some of the other negative reviews. The UI is fine. Other complaints, I don't understand. One review cited "losing a mission to UI confusion is soul-crushing." The game autosaves literally every turn. At most, make a mistake, go back 10 minutes and play the same turn again? The game is quite hard and requires some trial and error, reloading autosaves, can be annoying. But losing a scenario to UI confusion? Skill issue. Very good, if hard, game.…

unlabelledView post →This game is in early access. I know that and have set my expectations based on that. My expectations are : "some portion of the board game is playable with some bugs that get resolved over time, with more content added over time" What's outside of my expectation that I've encountered: - bugs that wholly prevent progressing - hotfixes for those bugs that don't fix them - bugs that were *resolved* in gloomhaven reappearing, mostly in multiplayer. Inexcusable to gain nothing from having…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would like to recommend this game, but really I cant. All the same issues that were in Gloomhaven are here and not fixed. I have ran into multiple issues while trying to play with my group, both with connection as well as just game play things not making sense or being explained. Ive had enemies act different on a different run of the same scenario. If you really love Gloomhaven and were okay with the bugs you will still enjoy this game. But right now the amount of bugs just keeps making it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who played the Gloomhaven digital and wanted to like it as I love the board game I just completely bounced of the digital Gloomhaven game. Ultimately it just felt clunky and frustrating. Try to pull off a combo only to realize the card wasn’t clear or you didn’t read it right? So deflating. Now enters Frosthaven. With the added city and upgrade options this is light years better than Gloomhaven in terms on meta progression for me. Also they added a full undo button! Miss read a card…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What even is this Frosthaven Boss fight!? It was just so stupid hard, compounded by unknowingly bad choices 3 scenarios ago. Played it twice with different characters and it just brutalized us. The first FAIL in hundreds of hours playing this amazing game. Bleh
unlabelledView post →So far so good. Some definite things could be improved. One of the biggest issue our group has is the short rest scenario -- requiring everyone to ready up their cards before a short rest can be performed is a huge pain. It's like you sit waiting for everyone to decide, then you find which card you lost, then you have to decide... not ideal at all since we want to coordinate. Besides seems arbitrary to do it that way since everyone can change their cards once selected (before you do after your…

unlabelledView post →Great game already even if it's still early access. So much game time is offered for the price. These devs should be cited as role models for their early access roadmap and commitment to the players. If you enjoyed the boardgame Frosthaven or Gloomhaven +digital, you will love this version of Frosthaven. 3 irritating aspects of the boardgame are better in the digital version : the buildings and town attacks management, plus the annoying calendar of events. They made it quick and simple which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is basically functional, and I haven't encountered too many bugs so far, but this is by far the worst UI anyone has ever conceived of for anything. I don't know how they managed to make this worse than Gloomhaven's, but they succeeded against all odds, bless them.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing multiple campaigns, both solo and with a group. I have the physical version of this game and its' predecessor, Gloomhaven. Other than the Blinkblade issue where you don't know what the specific fast/slow modifications are, I haven't experienced any major issues. I can see myself playing this game for 100s of hours. So much content. I also prefer this over Gloomhaven.

unlabelledView post →this is a good PC port of a bad board game. I liked Gloomhaven, but I think this sequel is suffering from a bad case of being overdesigned
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes game is bugged to hell. my brothers are stuck in a mission where i cant join because the game just immediately crashes. early access for any game is just crap. its a crap excuse to push a crazy unfinished game out for quick profit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like a few other reviewers, I'm a little baffled by the gripes about UI confusion, or complaints of too many clicks to complete a turn. If you like the board game, or liked Gloomhaven PC or board version, then you will love this. There is a definite learning curve - classes have a certain level where you get the card that makes your build click. If you specialize with these characters you will always do better - a jack of all trades approach leaves you master of none. I played the very early…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been keeping track, the null has shown up 56 times and the crit has shown up 9. This is annoying because the random is not random. Which wouldn't be a problem except I've played entire campaigns of boardgame Gloomhaven and over 30 of boardgame Frosthaven so I know what the modifier deck is suppose to feel like. Oh, but just in case that's not enough, there are the bugs. Yeah, sometimes things don't quite act the way they should. For instance, if a card has jump the tool text says that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is very un-optimized, crashing and far from being ready. Wait for release and see if they fix
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very close to the board game which is a good thing. If you liked gloomhaven videogame or board game you will like this as well. Plays well solo.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to love this game but the execution leave much to be desired. Here are some major pain points: -Can't load or save when you want, just at certain points in the round (between card activationa) -Over a year in and they are still a lot of bug. -Some scenario objective are hidden when they are always stated in the board game, that prevents you to make coherent strategies. -UI is dumb. For instance, some persistant cards have power that can be trigered with certain elements are strong or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great tactics game for co-op, characters are well designed and meaningful progression/playstyles. Town system enhances the overall experience, would even recommend this over Gloomhaven. Just broke 100 hours and will easily double as this finishes Early Access.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished my latest mini! #frosthaven #boardgames
unlabelledView post →Coming along steadily. There's still a few bugs and definitely some clunkiness to the user interface but it's a faithful interpretation of the board game experience without all of the headache of tracking and setting up the physical board. Looking forward to the next steps of the road map. Hoping they'll be able to improve the user experience with each new update.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Successor to Gloomhaven but follows the trend where sequels are worse than the first one. Were mid-game currently, 1 retired char and the game has a crazy amount of gimpy mechanics that aren't fun and u can't strategize around like you could in the first game. Examples include a boss that can push you back 3 + squares, plus summon elites that can disarm and have two shields. Every turn he will summon 1 add as well so if you fall behind in add killing which is inevitable, you’re likely to lose.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is addictive but runs like garbage. Gloomhaven ran so well and still does on my computer but this thing just crashes and freezes far too much to reccomend. Steam has asked me to update my review after playing fgor another ~74 hours. It is still programed like trash. Now, in later quests I am not just experiencing slowness but also crashes. As well, small things like UI for escaping being where "end turn" normally is and having to redo a quest or being force to restart the round like a…
