60 of 186 · most liked firstWith its focus on speed and multiple layers of paths to run through, FOTONICA plays almost like a first-person Sonic the Hedgehog -- and yet, despite the advantages of being first-person, the game manages to have the exact same problem Sonic does: you can't see far ahead enough to avoid obstacles (or in this case, pitfalls). Because of this, FOTONICA very quickly devolves into nothing more than trial-and-error, making the whole experience one of pure frustration. In addition, FOTONICA is also…

One button game In Fotonica you press any button to start running on a linear parcours. When you release the button you jump and don't accelerate, and when you press again you go towards the ground faster so you can speed up more. The selection of parcours are all surreal. Some consist of broken pieces of a railway track, some are pieces of living rooms. In between are big voids of nothing.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand how this has very positive user rating on Steam. You always run straight ahead and there's only one button to use. Only eight very short levels of around 1 to 2 minutes each. The graphics are most often vector-like in black and white lines unless you go fast enough. Then the lines go yellow. The electronic musics are lame, repetitive and are not dynamic enough to motivate. You're much better off playing any other first-person parkour game, like Mirror's Edge which is great. I…

After spending a good amount of time in-game I started taking a zen-like approach with each try. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not bad but not great either... Cool visuals and trippy soundtrack but having all the movements on one key only can become quite confusing and frustrating during tough levels. It doesn't feel like you have total control of you character. I recommend it but it's certainly not worth the 15€ pricetag, get it on sale. If your looking for something similar with more depth, far better controls and less costly check out the indie game SRC: Sprint Robot Championship. Rating 5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a runner. You run. And sometimes jump. Some people like this I suppose. Not worth 15 USD.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FONTONICA is a pretty interesting game, in a good way for me. FONTONICA is essentially a runner type game where there is only one control to use, the run/release button. You hold down a button to run and you jump when you release that button. There are three gamemodes for this game: arcade, endless, and multiplayer. I didn't really play multiplayer so I can't speak to that, but arcade and endless are actually quite refreshing. First with arcade. Arcade mode features ending levels, in which…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got the game at a discount, I'm not sure that I would pay the full price for this game. There are no complaints about it, but I'm not sure that such a high price is justified, since this game looks more like a phone application, and not a game for a PC.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me preface this by saying I like this game's aesthetics and its absolutely OUTSTANDING music. I also enjoyed memorizing and optimizing my routes in stages to reach the coveted 10k point goals for each. It can be genuinely tough but also pretty fun nailing a run on higher difficulties. However, this game is not without its many, many issues. For one, its settings/options are incredibly vague and sometimes can prove detrimental in certain areas. If you select FLAT in QUALITY, then…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting auto runner with a chill soundtrack and trippy visuals ! It plays with only one button but still requires quite a bit of skills and reflexes to get 10 000 in every level. The entire experience is worth it just for the visuals of the last level in my opinion ! The endless is fun too, but the 50k achievement in Salaria is kind of long and annoying, but I'm glad I got it ! Still, I recommend it fun experience, maybe 6.5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pop in and out focus tool. At least that's how I've been utilizing it lately. It's perfect for when you're feeling chaotic and spread out and need to hone back to a concentrated point. Strangely, the faster it is, the easier it is for me to anticipate when to jump. It's a singular button press that you can change to either hold and release to jump or press when you want to jump. The options menu does in fact have accessibility settings albeit they are named fancifully so you might miss that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool concept, but one simple "feature" of jerking your camera downwards every time you jump is both nauseating and frustrating in what is supposed to be a game about judging precision jumps over and over at a rapid pace.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fotonica is a minimalist first-person runner that’s basically “speed and focus” distilled into a game. You sprint across glowing wireframe architecture, jump impossible gaps, and try not to panic when the world drops away beneath you. It’s simple to understand in seconds, but it demands real precision once the levels start getting mean. The movement is the whole point, and it feels great when it clicks. Timing your jumps, maintaining momentum, and committing to lines at high speed creates that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off, this is an incredibly aesthetically pleasing game. But let that not deceive you in to thinking that there is no real game here. Simple, easy, and quite fun gameplay to pick up, but with a high skill ceiling to truly mastering it, so it continues to be interesting for quite a while as you try to go faster and faster and beat your own times and scores. Controls are very responsive and the game runs smoothly. Music is good and sound effects are well done to match the visual…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runner games are usually defined as games which consist of a continuous uncontrollable motion and a need to react, with limited control over your character. For most runner games this just means: run, and mash the button you are told to at specific times. FOTONICA is a little different to this (at least to runner games that I have played), in the sense that this is more of a think-on-your-feet platformer runner than a mash-buttons-when-you’re-told-to runner. I remember seeing FOTONICA on…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A beautifully crafted casual game I bought for my Android Phone and Linux Desktop separately. Quite simple premise, but actually enjoyable unlike many others: run, die, repeat. The thing is (on Desktop computers) you can press Q to quit and R to restart/repeat, which makes it even more fun as a casual play. If you need to complicate your life with buttons, don't buy it. If you like to sit back and relax while enjoying immersive retrofuturistic graphics, proper background music, sweet sound…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FOTONICA is a lovely, contemplative, and weirdly challenging game. It's one of these games that will just pull you in. And once you're in, the world around you stops existing. Despite the constant attention it requires, I find it strangely soothing. It manages to combine a wonderful arcade feeling with a deeply meditative experience. Definitely recommended. (Nerdy trivia : It's very probable that the devs were inspired by Italian futurism. And I believe levels bear the names of Milanese…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FOTONICA by Santa Ragione is a strikingly original experiment in minimalism and motion, transforming the simple act of running into a pure sensory experience. Rather than overwhelming the player with complex controls or narrative exposition, it strips everything down to a handful of inputs and an explosion of sensation. From the moment the player begins sprinting through its luminous wireframe landscapes, it becomes clear that the game’s goal is not to tell a story but to immerse you in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure how I managed to never hear about this game until a couple of days ago, but I'm glad I found it. It's an arcade/endless runner that's super minimal in both appearance and gameplay (you literally only have to use one button), but it surprised me with how thoughtful and complex the levels can get, especially on the higher difficulties. It's also visually and sonically pleasing, with a nice accompanying ambient electronic soundscape. Definitely get this one if you're at all…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really interesting experimental project. It's like if you mix Rez, Mirror's Edge, and the verticality of classic 2D Sonic. Really cool ambient, minimalist vector graphic vibes paired with a sick soundtrack. Feels like something they'd play in the movie Hackers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Merits: ▪ Unique visual style ▪ Great soundtrack ▪ Smooth & responsive controls ▪ Four-player split-screen mode ▪ Procedurally generated endless mode Flaws: ▪ Limited content ▪ Repetitive gameplay ▪ No online multiplayer Verdict: A visually striking and exhilarating arcade runner that offers a unique experience with its minimalist graphics. It is all about navigating through complex environments with precision while vibing to it's electronic soundtrack. The game is both simple to pick up and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The simplistic art-style,dark theme, and the whole atmosphere with the fast-paced element are so damn good and stunning. The few levels represent quality over quantity. It's addicting and hard but fair. I think it's the best endless runner game of all time so far.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm someone who likes to feel like I'm going fast. If a game has increased movement speed, I get it. If a game has a dash, I want more. If a faster way to move, I learn how. This game bar none is the fastest I have felt in a game. If you want to become speed, I suggest this game.

unlabelledView post →I have not finished the game nor going to. A one-button accessibility nightmare. The game indeed can be played with 1 key (hold to run, release to jump, hold when mid-air to land faster). However, the camera position is fixed and everything glows or pulsates. I have reached the third level where the floor textures became slightly more complex and I could not see where the said floor ends. The music is not bad, but distracts from the game. While there are difficulty options, I cannot tell…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has the player run, jump and dive to the next platform. The main focus is speed, since the longer the player spends running on platforms, the faster they become. The only way to fail is to fall into the endless pit, so hitting a platform only brings the player to a halt instead of destroying the run. The levels are basic, but visually appealing for what it's worth, going after the vector display style. The game is more basic than meets the eye, too basic for my taste, but the price is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Give this game a minute to warm up and stop trying to "beat" it and you have a good time. The later levels give me a bit of the feeling that mirror's edge can. If you can get this game on sale, I would go for it. (As nice as it is, its not a $17 dollar game.)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, at first I was kind of turned off to the idea of a game being played by pressing just one button. Just jump. That's it. I played through a few of the arcade levels and I was like yeah I guess it's fun. But then I tried getting some of the achievements and that's where the real challenge (and fun for me) comes. Getting 10,000 points on every arcade level requires mapping out where you'll run and then ramping up the difficulty by increasing your speed. It's pretty fun for what it is.
