negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The cheats the AI have are not clear, and half the time I spend fighting endless paper-rock-scissors battles, or auto deciding them. It's amazing that the pinnacle of 4x space design and AI is still Masters of Orion 2 back in the 1990's.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very poor new player experience. Each tutorial popup covers an entire section of the game at one go. E.g. you click on Research for the first time, it dumps literally all the info about Research on you in one single popup, and there is no way to view that popup again in that game. Naturally, you need to explore the whole UI to even know what a 4X/strategy game is about, so you end up triggering all the popups in the first minutes before you have a chance to play. I would rather have no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thought this was another obscure indie game from the giveaway, but no. This is a typical 4x strategy in a space setting. Many different factions, including the ability to create your own. The economy is generally simple, only the main resources responsible for the growth of planets, science, production and expenses. The only thing I didn't like was the constant modernization of the fleet after each study. Well, it was not without a drop in FPS on huge maps, which is already a classic for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly wanted to like this game, but I don't. While it is initially interesting, it falls flat on its face later on. It has the typical problem many 4x games have: bloated, overcomplicated spreadsheet UI which despite that, does not even give you all the important information you actually need. Most of the gameplay is windows that you open and close. What is it with 4X games and their obsession with micro-management? First time players are greeted by a ridiculous amount of pop up…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Endless Space feels like opening an old sci-fi paperback with a cracked spine: a little stiff, a little dated, but still weirdly comforting, especially for someone with Civilization habits who clearly fell deep enough into the turn-based “just one more turn” loop to basically see most of what the game had to offer; the factions blurred together over time but I distinctly remember enjoying how each one nudged me into a different style of galactic nonsense, whether I wanted to roleplay a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →thought it was cool initially. I appreciate the simplified approach to the 4x genre, where most of the strategy is coming from a grand overview of how you've made your decisions and hoping it doesn't make things worse down the line instead of the average paradox approach of micromanaging 20 different things, not understanding even half the mechanics and figuring it out from there and you'll probably be fine. Or a masters of orion old school 4x approach where it's very much understandable, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know how this game doesn't have even higher ratings, it is incredibly good. If you like turn based 4x games, buy it. If you are a fan of the old Masters of Orion games, buy it. If you like playing board games like Settlers of Catan, buy it. That may seem like a strange comparison but the game plays out like a board game in a lot of ways and more than a couple of its elements remind me of that game in particular. The space battles are a lot of fun to play around with and learn how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GO WOKE, GO BROKE. No corpo telling you to suck their politics deserves support. Regardless of if the game is good or not.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is no reason to play this game. Its sequel Endless Space 2 is much better at every aspect. This game is outdated in many regards. The only good thing about this game is its soothing music. It is Amplitude Studios’ first attempt at creating a Turn Based Strategy in set in space, similar to Master Of Orion series. Developers are clearly fans of the mentioned series, and they have experience of playing those games, so, how come they did not improve upon the original idea of Master Of Orion…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've only played the base game (with the included DLC disabled) and against computer opponents, so I can't speak to the multiplayer or DLC. Do not judge this game based on experience with Endless Space 2 as it is a quite different game. Endless Space is a solid 4x conquer the galaxy type game similar in many ways to other games in the genre like Master of Orion, Interstellar Space: Genesis, and Stellaris. I will try to talk about mostly what struck me as unusual or unique about this game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game about conquering galaxies, it sure manages to make space feel small and lifeless. The pacing drags harder than a snail in zero gravity, the diplomacy feels like arguing with a calculator and the combat system is so automated it might as well play itself. Every turn feels like a chore checklist instead of a strategy session and after a few hours, even the stars start looking tired. It’s impressive how a game about endless possibility can feel this limited.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Endless Space - Definitive Edition delivers an engaging turn-based space strategy experience focused on exploration, expansion, and interstellar diplomacy. Each faction offers unique mechanics that encourage different playstyles, while researching new technologies and managing galactic empires remains consistently rewarding. It's a solid choice for players who enjoy thoughtful strategy at a steady pace.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave a good try to this, but I cannot recommend it. Yes, it has a nice graphic and a good enough UI, but I find the game mechanics super strange. The technology tree is not very clear and the bonuses and new constructions it gives are not well explained. The mechanism for the empire loyalty is what? If you colonize hard planets your colonists are unhappy? There are hundreds of these mechanics that are hidden. Most of all, it is the ship building and the fighting that is really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Relaxing, immersive, incredibly beautiful soundtrack, and sucks you in every time with that "one more turn" mentality. The UI is a lovely balance of cool blues and colourful icons that are easy on the eyes and fun to look at. Terraforming planets, making your people happy, and expanding into the stars is just so much fun. FIRST TIME TIP: This game will kick your ass the first time you play it unless you have lots of 4X experience. What you can do is create a custom faction with terrible…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would be a great game, if the company hadn't decided to go into data grabbing business. Now its just a contagious corpse in my hidden games graveyard.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyable game, love being able to design ships to fill out roles in a fleet. The game leaves a lot to be desired but scratches a lot of itches though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Came back to play this as years back I remember rage quitting on this marvel. Guess what, after 100 turns, I did that again My biggest issue is combat as outcome is decided before it even starts. No matter what tactics you pick, 99% of the time combat ends in the same way. Similar damage output, same kill counts and losses. What did it for me is a battle where I had overwhelming advantage. 11 to just 2 of enemy ships. All they had is long range missiles. Nothing else. I also had long…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A vast, immersive space strategy game with deep gameplay, stunning visuals, and countless hours of exploration and conquest.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros - Very high control granularity - The lore and setting are worth it - The rock-paper-scissors-style card battles intrigued me greatly, and the battle simulations are good for the time. - Obviously, high replayability. Cons - You'll often find yourself micromanaging. - Total lack of a story; it's a strategic sandbox. - Steep learning curve for making smart choices. 7+/10

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A rather shallow take at 4X space strategy. 1. Simplistic combat system which boils down to selecting "cards" and watching a cutscene. 2. Very slow in the early game, quite micromanagenment-heavy later on. 3. Rather basic diplomacy system which feels like an afterthought. 4. Unrealistic map generation logic, where planets and their special traits are assigned randomly. 5. Utterly nonsensical technobabble. Don't even bother reading all those tech descriptions. Overall, don't bother buying…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is very old at this point, but it's still very good. I played it first way back in like 2013 when it was still relatively new, and once a year or so I'll download it and play a game or two. It's not as deep or complex as some 4X games, but for a 'pick up and play' strategy game I really recommend it. Grab it on a sale and keep it in your library for a rainy day.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A truly great game, but buy its sequal 1000 times out of a 1000. Its the grown up; this is the toddler.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The AI can be surprisingly aggressive on higher difficulties. Don't neglect your fleet or you will be farmed for XP.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i started a game. and the game spammed me with an add of itself. the screen turned black and i had to alt-f4. couldn't play. i don't really know what was supposed to happen but this is not playable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve been enjoying Endless Space overall. The exploration and empire management are probably the strongest parts for me, and I especially like being able to design ships around different roles in a fleet. There is a lot of depth here, and learning how the different systems work is satisfying. That said, the game can feel a bit overwhelming at first. There are a lot of menus and information to go through, and the amount of micromanagement can sometimes make the experience feel more complicated…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The computer players are just bad. The game is okay overall and the music is good. Yet, the initial few turns are just dull. Your first war will either be a boring stomp as you destroy their ships without taking damage or you will be wiped out in one battle. I don't care about creating a custom race for bonuses against the AI. The AI always grows faster than you because of the discounts it recieves to account for the fact that it starts wars it has no chance of winning. Fun as a brief…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was the first "clean" space 4X I'd ever played. I greatly enjoyed Birth of the Federation, long ago, but it was a buggy mess, especially on later operating systems. Sins of a Solar Empire, as well, always felt messy to me, despite being a grand ole time. Endless Space felt smooth and uninterrupted, bug free, and it was new for me, someone who always loved sci-fi and desperately wanted a premier empire management game in that space. I return to this every few years to play a handful of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A vast cosmos, with an endless number of star systems await you to explore, while hostile factions won't allow you to explore and expand so easily. This is Endless Space. The Good Battles are very cinematic and engaging. Probably the best areas that I enjoyed from Endless Space were the Fleet Battles and customization that you can make for your ships. Fleet Battles are how fights will be made in this game. When a battle is about to be initiated, you will have a few options available. To…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THIS GAME IS INDEED AMAZING!!! WOULD RECOMMEND IF YOU HAVE NO LIFE.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a poetry of 4X. Strong theme, not too long, simple but very very measured in execution.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great fantasmagory developed by mature people but it's beautiful nonetheless.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Micromanagement hell, clunky UI, and bloated, unimaginative research. A classic case of less would’ve been more.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic 4X, but at this point ES2 is a better grab since they're both similar price now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cool 4x space strategy game that I played a bit on a pirated copy at the time. It's nice, but I found it gets a bit repetitive later on, but if you like this genre there's so few options to choose from, you can't go wrong really.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game, great sound track. Actually superb soundtrack one of my favorite game tracks of all time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried Endless Space 2 a few times and picked up Endless Space 1 just to see if it was easier to grasp. Was able to get into ES1 and play right away. Imo the tutorial approach really makes it easy to get going in ES 1. I'll stick with it and try ES 2 again soon now that I get how it works.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this game and have great respect for its developers. 10 years ago this one was on fire! Just gave it a week of play and it was still good! I recommend playing it at least on hard, due to the inevitable "snowballing" later in the game. "Definitive" - Sounds more like: "The 2nd one's out, we ain't gonna be fixing this one anymore". And indeed - broken tooltips all around. But most of everything else works as it should.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Endless Space and Endless Space 2 are enjoyable. I'm not shure why I sometimes prefer Endless Space to it's sequel, but I like to take it out for a few games every once in a while.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like strategy games, this one has a lot going for it so far. I have only played on normal difficulty to date but as I go I learn more, so later I will give a another review...maybe. :)

unlabelledView post →A beautifully sleek, atmospheric masterpiece that proves spreadsheets in space can be genuinely gorgeous. Endless Space is the foundational game that launched Amplitude Studios' critically acclaimed "Endless" universe, and it remains one of the most stylish and polished 4X strategy games ever made. In a genre that is often plagued by cluttered menus and overwhelming data dumps, this game is a breath of fresh air. The user interface is an absolute triumph of game design—it is incredibly clean,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so nice to chill & plan your universal domination turn based.. Nirvana.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →🔹 General Impression Endless Space is a strong 4X space strategy game, often compared to Civilization or Master of Orion. It offers deep empire management and many strategic systems, but it has a steep learning curve and is not very beginner-friendly. Most players agree it is a game that becomes enjoyable only after investing time to learn its mechanics. 🔹 Strengths Deep 4X gameplay (exploration, expansion, economy, warfare) Strong empire-building mechanics on a system level (not just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Minimal and bland empire management, lame combat. Lots of other more interesting space 4x games out there.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While you can feel its age it is still fundamentally the good strategic experience its sequel has become known for.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After sinking well over 40 hours into Endless Space, I can say it's a genuinely satisfying 4X experience once you get past the initial learning curve — the faction variety alone kept me coming back, especially my time with the Horatio clones, which is as wonderfully absurd as it sounds. The music and atmosphere are top-notch, and the tech tree offers that classic 'one more turn' pull that good strategy games live or die by. That said, the combat system is essentially a glorified cutscene where…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission. It defines the 'space opera' feel perfectly. FlybyNo is a legend.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →graphics held up well. space backgrounds are pretty.
