EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 WINGDIVER THE SHOOTER
Developer Clouds
The story from behind the scenes of EDF 4.1 unravels here. The EDF series is back with new feelings of despair and bug-slaying satisfaction as you fight your way through never-ending swarms of giant insects in a vertical scrolling shoot 'em up! From the Steam store page

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the earth defense force experience as a shoot em up its pretty fun and its pretty hard i'm no good with the genre but i'll get good for the pride of edf don't want to think about the mothership boss fight all i want is edf5 d3 please sandlot please edf members all over the world want to protect the earth too!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gladly, shamelessly, giving this my $ and thumbs up in hope it will help get EDF 5 on PC!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game only has 6 stages and will take you about half an hour to finish. It is certainly fun for those few minutes, but for 20 bucks i just cant recommend it, even if you try to get all the weapons in all the difficulties, its just not enough to justify 20 bucks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a huuuge EDF fan and was happy to see that this game finally arrived on steam. And while it looked more or less like mediocre Shoot'em'Up, I thought it might have enough of the EDF charme and quantity. Well, the charme is there since the dialoge got even cheesier and like the main series of EDF games it's built around grinding to beat the harder difficulties. However, "Wingdiver the shooter" doesn't rellay offer that much content to sink your teeth into with only 6 short missions you can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gods, this is terrible. Pity any poor soul who paid the full $20 for this game. It's a rail shooter, you move and you shoot. This game does both badly. You are painfully slow to move and must constanly dash/dodge, burning weapon heat to buy a few invincibility frames. Your starting 2 weapons are vastly superior to any "upgrades" you will pick up in your first 6 mission campaign. Started playing on Normal and got obliterated. Swallowed my pride, restarted on Easy and realized this was the…

When I saw a game series i've enjoyed in the past was doing a shmup I was pretty much immediatley on board. The world of Earth Defense Force has always been a fun one. Giant bugs in large numbers invading and it's your job to take them out. Combing the two elements of EDF & Shmup is an intriguing expansion on the universe. The theme is nicely done.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a spinoff of the Earth Defense Force series where instead of being the usual third person shooter it's a shoot em 'up featuring the wing diver class - does it work? I think it does, the genre change works pretty well and all the weapons feel like they did in the original game. There's also a ton of bugs on the screen, and there are even sections in the middle of the stage dedicated to destroying as many bugs as possible in one area. The overall feel of the game isn't the only thing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steam really needs a "neutral" rating for games like these. The integration of the EDF formula is actually pretty well done. You still grind for armor and weapon drops, you have a life bar, you switch weapons, and other than now being able to fly forever, the Wing Diver kind of plays like the same class from the 3D games. The weapons are accurate to the series and there's actually a little bit of thought behind which pair you'll take into battle. However, there's only 6 levels and each of them…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love shmups and I love Earth Defense Force -- so this was an instant purchase. The high poitns are 6 levels, 6 modes, and 60 weapons to unlock. It has a great progression system I wasn't expecting as well. I've completedo n Easy and mostly on Medium up to this point and I really, really like it. YES, it's not EDF 5 but stands firmly on it's own two feet. Highly recommend. First Look/Review: https://youtu.be/qO23A6rLOQA
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Save our mother Earth from any alien attack From vicious giant insects who have once again come back. Much better than expected, great shmup.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →only buy this at 90% off if player get hit without touching bullet just quit full screen mode. Frame rate of this game is problematic.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Your hitbox is larger than your character. In a bullet hell or any SHMUP, this is unforgivable. It's basically a rails shooter, from a top down perspective, using the mechanics of the EDF wing diver. Thankfully you can get SOME armor when dying, but you don't get any weapons. So far I've gotten all the basic weapons, and they're all worse than the two you start with. I plan to keep playing and see if it gets better, but I can only play for a few minutes at a time before becoming frustrated.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love EDF and the series, but I cannot recommend this game if it's over $5. There's 6 (short) missions and this game can be completed in a couple of hours. It's fun, but it's far, far too short.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You don't even get to see the Wing Divers panties when she dies like in the EDF series. Also it lacks any cool weapons, has very few levels and all together the game kinda sucks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The worst EDF game I've ever played. But still good. I recommend you wait for a sale, whenever there is one the game goes for just a few cents. Among the community it is refered to as the "Forbidden Title". The hitboxes are not good and the voice acting is even worse. But you really aren't supposed to Touhou this game, use your dodge. You can avoid all of the hitbox issues with the use of the dodge-boost mechanic. Which I'm pretty sure is what the devs intended anyways with how often the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a bullet hell shoot-them-up genre game based on the EDF franchise. I recommend this game ONLY if you enjoy both of those things. If you do not, you will not like this, as it is not a great game on its own. Words of Note: -The game is short. There are only 6 actual missions which take 5-10 minutes each to finish without dying and with a decent weapon. Although there are 6 difficulty levels (easy, medium, hard, hardest, inferno, hell) to fight through. Of which, Inferno & Hell are only…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well I haven't played this game but from what my grandson tells me it is a very good video game..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love EDF as much as the next guy but this is not a great game and its extremely short. i've played demos that had more content
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is garbage
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the simplest of terms, Wingdiver the Shooter just isn't fun. The concept of the Wingdiver from EDF, with it's powerful weapons being balanced by the need to maintain their energy, is a concept which makes sense in the EDF main game line. When this concept is placed into a fast-paced, aerial shooter like Raiden V you suddenly have a very bad mechanic that hinders the player from enjoying the game by forcing them to choose between defense & evasion or attack. Outside of bosses you can actually…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →gameplay almost like chicken invader , not 3D
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun game and a true bullet hell shump but this is in no way worth $20. it only has 6 levels and suffers from rng unlocks. you can beat easy without to much issue but you'll need to unlock weapons via rng to get higher scores or to beat hard+. i have some issues seeing bullets on some levels and some weapons flash will end up hiding bullets completely for about a second. i also question the hit boxes in this game. 7/10 fun but really short.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A shmup version of EDF 4.1 that doesn't look like a budget shooter. As you advance through the difficulties, which will require some grinding, just not as much as 4.1, thank God, you get weapons that look like everyday shmup upgrades and EDF style weapons. You may get low difficulty weapon drops, but you still get a new weapon almost every mission, to keep up with the stronger enemies. They introduced a dash mechanic which makes you ignore attacks for a brief time, which is a new mechanic in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game uses the name, some sound effects, some wing diver weapons, and some models from EDF. That's the only good thing it has going for it. The rest is unadulterated garbage. The controls feel awful. The movement is awful. The attacking is awful. The evading is awful. Most weapons are unusable at higher levels because you need the energy to constantly be boosting rather than attacking. The voicelines, a hallmark of EDF and an incredibly charming part of the series, are beyond awful - I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I refunded. This looks cool as all heck, but the experience I had (insanely unfair hit-boxes) basically communicated to me that this game is all about grinding for permanent upgrades. Never in a million years will I play a game where player skill is almost completely removed from the game play experience. If you like skill-based games, this will make you RAGE
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: A pretty good shmup, and a pretty good distraction from EDF 4.1 too. If you're not a shmup or a EDF fan though, it's not the best introduction to both of these by far. Buy EDF 4.1 and you'll most likely want to buy this one (And there's a bundle with both, how neat!) EDF 4.1 WINGDIVER THE SHOOTER, as the name implies, is a shoot'em'up spin-off from the EDF series which features one of the class of EDF 4.1, the Wing Divers. Being a shmup and EDF fan, I instantly wanted to play it and a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDF + Overhead shooter = silly killing hordes of bugs fun! ... bit on the short side.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an okay shmup but it just reuses 4.1 assets and you can complete it in under an hour, yet they're asking £15 for it. Might be worth it at 1/10th of the price if you're a big fan of the series.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Four days into 2024 and I’ve already beaten one game in my backlog. Finished my first run through Earth Defense Force 4.1: Wingdiver The Shooter. It isn’t perfect, but the way it blends the EDF armor & weapons gathering gameplay loop with a shmup is something I wish more games in the genre did.
unlabelledView post →This game is pretty silly but I felt I got my money's worth out of the sale price. The obvious glaring issues is difficulty is all over the place and pretty unbalanced, game starts hard because you have to grind for decent weapons. If you beat the first level on hard you get this "sniper c" weapon that will make every level on normal a cakewalk. There's a lot of cheap hits even with the boost dodge mechanic and sometimes you have to choose between overheating (practically immobile and unable to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it took me roughly 8 hours to 100% complete EDF4.1 WDTS, this feels like i wasted my time, mainly because there is only 6 mission. and to beat the game you need to play them at least 36 times. it was mind numbingly boing and really easy even on the Inferno difficulty. with the main difference being more projectiles and more enemy health (which you wont feel until the ♥♥♥♥ storm which is hell difficulty) the enemy projectiles are very numerous and quick, and with the not well defined player…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If youre familiar with the EDF games this is no different- cheesy B-movie feel, collect armor and weapons, work up to higher difficulties to get better weapons, etc, etc. And if you enjoy shmups too, youll feel right at home. At first, I was like, "eh, its okay". But like other EDF games they grow on you and this one did for me. So much so that Im going to go back to EDF 4.1 and grind some more. Like others have mentioned- theres only 6 stages, which does sour the experience...a little. On…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →By far the best EDF game since EDF 2017, and I haven't even played an hour! EDF! EDF! EDF! Highly recommended, massively fun shmup action, with the same premise as all the other EDF games; see big bug, shoot big bug with big gun. What more do you need??
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On an 80% sale this might be a fun little addition to your EDF collection; it does have some of the same charm and it's fun to have the same weapons and enemies portrayed in a different context. It really makes you wish that there was some kind of infinite-energy Wing Diver in the mainline games like you see here. For anything more than 5 dollars, though, this is an enormously overpriced game. I haven't played it much and don't usually like the genre to begin with, but I absolutely guarantee…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pleasantly surprise with the game. The campaign is fairly short (6 missions you can complete in 1 hour or even less when you know the patterns) but really replayable to get more weapons or try different loadouts. Difficulty is respectable even in Normal, and if you die, you don´t unlock weapons, forcing you to learn patterns, play safely with the boost+weapon stamina bar, and not giving you a second to rest. Bosses are varied and challenging, and it has this arcade feel of "just one more round"…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →By far the best EDF game out there! lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you aren't already a SHMUP fan and an EDF fan, then look elsewhere. If you love both, then welcome to one of the greatest EDF spin-offs there is. Compared to most shmups on Steam that I've played, this one favors weapon switching much more. Boosting also greatly helps for the invulnerability frames. Go with something ranged that doesn't eat much energy, and a close-range weapon that goes all-out. Fencers will get their Iron Rain soon™. Air Raiders deserve an RTS spinoff as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After finally spending some serious time with the game I definitely came away from it with a positive overall impression. It is not without its issues of course. As is the case with certain shooters with 3D graphics, the bullets / player are pretty chunky and it is very easy to take several hits in succession. You can adjust to this a bit with time and the game gives you some tools to deal with this as well. Most notably in the form of a boost-dash feature that allows you a few I-frames upon…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring. Dont understand if I hit anything or not or where I am from the ground up. I want my money back
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played through the main campaign on easy difficulty, fun nostalgic upgrade to retro style space shooters that pits you against giant alien bugs that want to take over the world. Shoot laser guns, stomp bugs, and fight Godzilla, all around good times. The graphics may be a little out dated and the story is questionable, but it's also decently difficult if your into that sort of thing. The anime voice acting is AMAZING. Rating: 5/10 - Not my kind of game, but It's good if you're a fan of anime…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you can get it cheap, then it's an interesting diversion from the normal EDF games. It REALLY should have had local co-op though. EDF games have co-op, traditional bullet hell shooters sometimes have co-op, so why the heck doesn't this?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty decent Shoot 'em Up. If you're a fan of the EDF Series it's worth giving a go on sale. Not very long (at most 2 hours if you struggle with the difficulty.) As a side note the game is pretty hard and you're pretty much forced to play on easy the first time round. Only real issue I could find with the game is that the energy bar can be pretty difficult to keep an eye on.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDF is a very dumb game about people fighting giant insects. It's a game you don't care about story, music, character design or even graphics. But it's really fun if you are in the mood of playing something just to see mass destruction while using one of the 200+ weapons the game let you use. This one here is a spinoff shmup you play as one of the 4 characters from the main game... it's short but maybe it last long enough (and honestly it's cheap look at the price here), but I really didn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Critical problems : 1) Single play only. 2) 6 stages only... The difficulty of this game is insane, only "easy" mode is easy, normal is very hard, I couldn't have brave playing hard mode, if about 1/2 USD, that's ok for fun, otherwise, save your money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →man this game would be so cool but unfortunately: it's not. definitely definitely definitely don't buy this game at anything below 90% off. (i got it for $1.99 and i'm still refunding :-/ . . .) unfortunately: if you were to see this game running on my PC you would think that i had plugged a motherboard into a dinner plate. my PC can run call of duty: warzone at 75+ fps. i was legit getting one frame every four seconds in this dolphin vomit of a videgame (no satire). ungodly optimized. in the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 WINGDIVER THE SHOOTER pros: fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on, good amount of action and special effects, cons: some difficult battles. good game. Personal Suggested Purchase Price: $0.99 Or Less During Sale
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic gameplay but too difficult
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is a bad shmup but i'm glad i own it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In case you don't have control pad / joystick control in this game is terrible.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels very cheap. Even if you're the biggest EDF fan, this is a waste of your time. If you like shmups, there are much better titles on Steam that deserve your time. At least it controls well, as it should be in a schmup.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As an intro, I've played most of the earlier EDFs, but my favorite is the XBox EDF 2017. And I can say, this EDF sidequest game is great! It doesn't have the endlessly long stages of normal EDF, every one is short and sweet, and the ability to start at beginning, middle, or end for farming and progressing is good. It doesn't suffer from other plane shooters, in that those are an exercise in dodging, and 2 hits and you're done. Here you can dodge as much as you want or not, depending on how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 WINGDIVER THE SHOOTER, developed by Clouds and published by D3PUBLISHER, is a vertical scrolling shoot 'em up spin-off from the beloved Earth Defense Force (EDF) series. Released on April 25, 2018, this title offers a distinct departure from the mainline EDF games, focusing on fast-paced, arcade-style action rather than large-scale third-person combat. Set against the backdrop of the Ravager invasion, players assume the role of a member of the elite Wing Diver squad,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The main mechanic of the game is the invulnerable "dash" that will let you eat projectiles without taking damage. It is necessary because the hit boxes in this game can be awful, meaning you will get hit if you try to merely dodge them. The unlocked weapons seemed to be mostly worse than the starter ones. Most of them seemed to be slow single-target ones that end up lowering your fire power. For some reason the first two missions seemed to not unlock stats or new weapons while the later ones…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I beat this game on the easiest difficulty in around 45 minutes and have no compulsion to play it ever again. I'm not really versed in bullet hell, but trying to keep track on the projectiles vs the background was very difficult sometimes. Story is even shallower than usual EDF games, weapons aren't as interesting, limited enemy and weapon variety... I just can't really recommend it unless you're an EDF super fan and there happens to be a steep discount.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →different from other edf games but worth it if its on sale
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I completely understand why this is mixed in recommendations. It is an okay shmup but is a bad Earth Defense Force game. I would recommend this if you want a meh shmup. When I downloaded this game I was expecting a basic shooting game like other Earth Defense Force Games and not this. I did enjoy most of the time playing this but they put one of the worse things from EDF into a shmup which shouldn't be allowed which is multiple bad weapons. Most of the weapons feel underpowered and it just…
