I think the power of the Earth Defense Force series is that it is the most genuine game series in the history of humanity. If the dialogue says "there's 1,000 ants coming this way" the game stutters for a second as 1,000 ants instantiate. There's no lie in this game.

My take on video games with lots of enemies on screen at once is that Earth Defense Force is cool and also more smartly designed than it looks and that you should have to play at least one every year in order to have a license to say "[new, reasonably budgeted Japanese game] is like a PS2 game."

Nobody makes bad games like Earth Defense Force anymore. Developers used to make bespoke game engines for their horrible experiences. There simply is no charm in a bad game if it's made in Unreal Engine or Unity

Mentioned it before, but The Last Salvage Squad is shaping up to be a very fun little arcade FPS, with a 'What if Earth Defense Force was a Virtual Boy game' aesthetic. A team of giant robot women defend a ruined earth with only one gun. If you die, your next character/life has to recover the gun.

For the first time in a long while I am truly disappointed with an EDF game. The Pros: Great destruction, excellent sound work, and overall a fun theme. The Cons: Serious mouse responsiveness/tracking issues in stages, the maps are completely recycled from the first EDF:WB, and the stages are far too short. If you're a fan of the EDF series, perhaps wait until there is a fix for the mouse and keyboard issues. If you are looking to try the series but are on the fence, try the earlier EDF:WB…

WB2 is an astronomical improvement over the first game and stands as one of the best entries in the entire EDF franchise. It's a hard pick between this and EDF 6, both games refine and fine tune the EDF formula in different ways and both stand high above all the games that came before. Like the first game, this is a more arcade style take on the EDF formula where you control squads of soldiers in much faster paced missions compared to the main series, with a focus on collection new characters…

As someone who has put hundreds of hours into this game series, I hate to leave a not recommended review; however, it is completely justified here. The game itself is great, and it's quite fun. It mixes up the dynamic by allowing you to play as 4 characters in each mission. This allows you to have a ton of flexibility in how you approach each mission. Also the fact that weapon types are interchangeable, and you can unlock the ability to use other types with each character adds even further…

I was on the fence about Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. Like all EDF's, we start with some basic characters with basic equipment and unlock more as we play (randomly of course) by rescuing characters on the map. It took a while, but I finally unlocked my first air raider teammate and a teammate with the emerald missile launcher, and it made this game really feel like a proper EDF game. I can switch to the air raider, call in a napalm strike and the "Rule of God" orbital satellite…

Much much better than the first game! Bigger enemy count, maps seem a big bigger, more maps, more returning enemies, we get to fight some of the motherships actually too now! If you liked World Brothers 1 you will love this one! Bigger campaign too! Over 100 missions, I think 200 brothers n sisters to collect, many of the DLC ones from WB1 are now base game too! This is awesome! Lower price point at $50 is honestly a better price point for EDF too An epic account is also not required for…

This game is seriously slept on. I strongly reccomend it to any EDF fan and gently recomend it to everyone else, though it does get better the more EDF games you've played. Every aspect of this game is it's own passion project. All the voice actors did an amazin job, the models look great and some have damage textures. The writing is exactly what an EDF tribute game needs. Everyone who worked on this clearly loves EDF, maybe as much as I do. --Gameplay-- This is a game about shooting giant…

The best EDF in the franchise. It has an insanely good enemy variety, a sort of interesting story (Not as good as EDF's 6), a charming cast to follow that go through character development and loads of characters to customize teams and synergize, it has a low entry barrier but high skill ceiling. You'll most likely breeze through the game the first time, but it really shines on the harder difficulties afterwards. Visually even with the blocky aesthetic it's an absolute delight to look at.…

If I'm being honest, I'm not really a fan of the main games in the series. But World Brothers is the reason I can jive with the series. The second game is an improvement in almost every way. More weapons, more characters, more abilities per character to make them universally functional, but still unique, and more missions to go through. The story is perfectly fine, but I personally preferred the first game's cast and banter. Many fans of the series will mostly be confused with why I don't…

Great, just like the first one. Picking out weapons and your team is fun as always. You can fly in as a wing diver, buff yourself with ranger, swap to air raider and call down an auto canon and a strike, and while they cool down, swap to your main 'killer' with a good old AR. A silly homage to EDF with some QoL I wish would find its way to the main game (decent armor gain per level, armor is gained on stage completion and varies between 'class', you can drive a tank into shallow water without…

My absolute favourite is a real deep cut - Zangeki no Reginliev for the Wii. A norse myth take on the Earth Defense Force series, now (unofficially) translated. Many hours in, you beat the big villain, credits roll, and... then Ragnarok happens. Mid credits. Then the last third of the game begins.

An absolutely Hilarious game with a surprising amount of heart. For some reason the less serious format actually leads to characters having a bit of personality. Well. More than a typical EDF game at least. The addition of some new quality of life features including tighter controls and redesigned classes that have an extra ability makes every character feel that much more unique than in previous titles. The new units are also fun and colorful as well.

Even if it's a spin off, it's a really good spin off that should not be missed, with that said, I also consider this to be one of the more fun games I've played recently.

Been playing since EDF 4 and really enjoying this a few hours in. WB was a great game. The key difference in the WB games is a single player squad which does not exist in the main series that cause those games to become super boring solo games once online activity dies out. They really need to make a main EDF game with the WB mechanics of an offline squad + coop. The graphics don't change so they should just keep adding DLC's to a primary game.
