Despite the description, DungeonUp isn't really a roguelike, because that would imply that it's an RPG at all. It's actually a puzzle game in the guise of an RPG, in the same vein as the free indie game Tower of the Sorcerer or the DSiWare game Crystal Adventure. It's... better than Crystal Adventure, for sure, though I've never played Tower of the Sorcerer to compare it to that. The puzzle elements are a bit simplistic - basically, fighting monsters is completely deterministic, and you can…

This is NOT a Rouge-like, and more a puzzle game! DungeonUp is an interesting little puzzle game with slight RPG elements, with procedurally generated levels. Sounds like a good game with lots of replayablity right? Well, yes and no. Let me first explain something. This is NOT a Rouge-like! A normal Rouge-like game loves to provide little to no info on ANYTHING, and the only way to figure out what things are, like an item, you have to use it and suffer the effects if it's good or bad.…

First impression: Lite puzzle adventure dungeon crawler. It's lite as an RPG, your stats are money, health, attack and defense, and there are sme magic items you can acquier and use; it's lite as a puzzle game, you mainly need to strategize your use of keys (unless you're on easy), and it's lite as an adventure since you can talk to some people who may give you clues about upcoming levels and bosses. Unfortunately, you do need those clues, and in my case, I missed one, and the ensuing death…

1/5 Bad 2017 EDIT: DungeonUP is a $5.00 clone of the 90s freeware game Tower of the Sorcerer. There is zero reason to buy it as it is almost completely identical in gameplay. Like so many games before it, DungeonUp is a confused title that clumsily attempts to glue together two genres that wiser men have avoided combining. In this case, it has attempted to combine a roguelike with a puzzle adventure. Because enemies do not move or attack until attacked first, nor do they give any form of…

DungeonUp is a Roguelike that puts a peculiar twist on the genre: none of the monsters move. They all just stand where they are, waiting patiently for you to engage them in battle, and you can defeat them at a fixed HP cost based on your current equipment. In this way, it becomes more of a puzzle game, an "order of operations simulator". Do you kill the monster and take the 200 HP of damage? Or do you unlock the door to go around it, and kill the two lesser monsters in the secondary hallway at…

With a sad heart, but can't recommend it. It started as an 8/10 game, ended as 4/10, for a variety of reasons. The CONS: * extremely hard without walkthrough/hints, easy, boring and tedious with them (see below) * obscure enemy special abilities and items, with unclear descriptions * difficulty level settings that make no sense with respect to this kind of puzzle/rougelike game (no real change in core difficulty, but instead fog of war on hard and "endless" yellow keys on casual) * no way to…

I've never been really sure where I stand on the games in the "Rogue-like" category, especially since the term is often mis-used of games that only bear a superficial visual similarity to the classic. I think most of the ones I have have been included in bundles where what attracted me to it were some of the other games, or the ridiculously tiny price tag. This is the first one in the broad genre, however, that has made me sit down and actually want to play it a bit. The run-of-the-mill…

This game is fun! Very fun... But at the current state it's a "little" broken so I can't recommend it. There are some bugs (especially one) that ruined the game experience for me. The problem with soulstones. They are required to buy any item from NPC and to revive you if you die (if you are out of stones you need to start the game from the beginning). You obtain them by killing a boss monsters. However they seems to save even if you restart the game. So... If you restart the game and start…

This was a really nice little game. I say little because it can be completed fairly quickly and playing through again will net you the same items and such, but with the subsequent dungeons being random it feels fresh and engaging again. There's a good balance from early on of deciding when to fight monsters and when to seek out power ups instead, which leads to backtracking that feels productive instead of a slog. Some fun secret areas to discover kept me coming back and wanting to see…

DungeonUp makes me realize the importance in all those small details and mechanics I take for granted from great roguelites and dungeon crawlers. There's no real sense of progression or discovery here. The levels are randomly generated but every run consists of "use as few yellow keys as possible, collect yellow keys, find the red key, find the boss floor, kill the boss. Get a soulstone which you could use to buy new items (pretty much necessary to progress) or to respawn (only worth it if you…

This is only worthwhile if you get it for a buck or as part of a bundle. It's just another faux retro dungeon crawler designed for players who long for their Nintendo-based childhoods. Dungeon Up is as difficult as Indiana Jones Desktop Adventures, has similar "word balloon" dialogue to Yoda Stories, but lacks the charm of either game. Dungeon Up isn't exactly bad. It's just not exactly good either. Honestly, you'll have a similar experience and far more fun playing your old Yoda Stories game…

DungeonUp is significantly more methodological than action based as you'll know the result of any battle before you even get into it. Each floor is a labyrinth of entryways with a predetermined number of keys, and try to design your course, choose what is should have been assembled first, and what you ought to return for some other time. It is a solid dungeon crawler game that is packed with enough content - fifty levels in five different zones, multiple boss battles and three difficulty level…

Very fun at first. But gets too difficult quickly. And you have to kill every monster, collect every item to make you character stronger and have at least slight chance to beat enemies. Maybe randomness is the source of the problem because sometimes it's almost impossible to progress.

A simple and easy game that only requires you to click around. The rules are simple, the puzzles can be hard to solve sometimes and the looks of this game is pretty good. What I enjoyed most about this game is that you don't need to think that much and put a lot of effort into it and still have fun and get challenged. It's not a near-perfect game, but still enjoyable.

Story mode isn't so bad on the easiest difficulty, thanks to free keys that keep the run alive (waiting a minute for each one sucks, though). Every zone has some mechanic to it that keeps the experience interesting - beating the zones are the few highlight moments you get here. Once you beat the game, it's also possible to grind the final boss for a decent amount of soul stones, which help a ton with any future runs. Everything else, however, feels very rough around the edges - the story is…

DungeonUp is a free to play Adobe Flash/AIR browser game that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a fully fledged PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy web developers, because they want your money for a free browser game. Charging money for something that's free? Yes, this is a scam. And a bad one. It's a lazy 2D retro pixel trashware "dungeon crawler" themed game, like a really dumbed down version of Rogue/Hack, but with worse graphics somehow (I'd rather be looking at ASCII…

It's fun until Boss2?3? with nice puzzles / health+ management... ... but Only beatable by reading tips on steam. Can't recommend a game if you have to follow all steps in the tips or you'll die. To solve it on your own you would perhaps die 10 times @ the boss and always need to play the same levels 30 minutes? to reach the boss. I would recommend the enchanted cave 2. It's great and not broken.

Tediously long and repetitive, requiring you to play and restart and play and restart to collecct soul stones and spend them all on items to help you get through the next zone because you dont have enough gold etc to get past the overpowered mobs that spawn on the next zone. Basically it takes forever, lacks a story, and gets hellishly repetitive.

This game is absolutely fun, and totally worth 5 bucks. I'll leave the nitpicky, detailed reviews to the people inclined to write that kind of stuff. The only complaint I have is that, despite all the "cross-platform" lip service they seem to be paying (iOS, Android, Mac), there is no Linux support. C'mon guys... Since you've ported it to Mac already, you're already 80% of the way done!

It's definitely slow paced and doesn't seem enjoyable at first but I love the stratagey and thought process that you have to put into this game in order to do well and try to win. DungeonUp, developed by Clewcat Games and published by Plug In Digital, is a compact but surprisingly cerebral dungeon crawler that reframes familiar roguelike conventions through a lens of planning, foresight, and risk management. While it borrows visual and structural cues from classic dungeon adventures, DungeonUp distinguishes itself by slowing the pace and turning nearly every action into a calculated decision. Rather than emphasizing reflexes or chaotic combat, the game asks players to…

For 50 cents on sale, you can't beat it. It's easy to exploit the soul-stone thing by saving right before the final boss and playing it over and over. Once you have a bunch, you can do pretty much anything, although, it can spoil things, too. Also, custom maps are fun.
