28 of 28 · most liked firstWhile I'm pacing my Control playthrough to give my hands time to heal, I dug up Drakensang 1, a game from my childhood I only vaguely remember playing. It's a blast from the past and I'm surprised I enjoy it this time around despite the tedium, but I hope I'll finally leave the rat city behind soon.

unlabelledView post →We used SQLite as save game format in the singleplayer Drakensang games (and a save game was also at the same time the 'world database', so there was an initial 'world state savegame' coming out of the asset pipeline. This was only for game object attributes though, not for textures, meshes etc...

unlabelledView post →Not D&D directly, but lots of RPGs, and my favorite game is Drakensang TRoT, which is based on D&D in world and gameplay.
unlabelledView post →Oooh, Thank you! I just found out it has a sequel! I'm going to check it out as soon as I have some free time. Those editions really show how passionate they were even if the game was janky. I have a Drakensang set lying around that included a map, guide, cardboard box, and plastic case.
unlabelledView post →We got a schedule! We'll give Code Vein II a Spin, and we might get into more Old Euro RPGS. Ether the unloved gothic 3 expandalone or we'll start doing the Drakensang games, based on Germanys biggest TTRPG "The Dark eye" (character sheets are 4 pages, edition 1 came with Game master masks)
unlabelledView post →Quote with a game you like but everyone else hates. I have put an embarassing amount of my life into the Drakensang games.

unlabelledView post →Riddle me this: How is it that a German game developing studio could create an imo better looking game in regard to the world with Drakensang (2008) than Bioware/EA with Dragon Age Origins (2009)?
unlabelledView post →Witcher has so many spots that make me wanna just stop and look around for a bit, deeply comfy game. Also makes me think of Drakensang constantly, that game also had this feeling of comfort.
unlabelledView post →8. Okay.. okay hear me out.. this isn't even for everyone that played Drakensang but.... Forgrimm and Ardo. I mean Forgrimm is already my fav character in the games and.. Ardo? You see my vision? Do you see what I am seeing. (also Drakensang still is my fav game and I instantly want to replay)
unlabelledView post →And it was such a great game. More refined than the original Drakensang. Another and... :) a nice return to the DSA universe (ROA: Star Trail / Shadows over Riva are amongst my all time favorite RPGs)
unlabelledView post →Long time ago we played Drakensang online together and he was also dwarf there and I was elf and I always told him he's Gimli to my Legolas 😆 But so far game looks super fun!
unlabelledView post →Oh, I spot Drakensang there. I'm in the middle of playing that. What a fascinating game, I got sad when I saw the developers didn't seem to survive passed the second entry.
unlabelledView post →@simonschreibt Nice! Seeing these trails I wish I would have clepped some more textures and videos from my time on the #Drakensang games. What lengths we went through these days to get some of these curling and cascading patterns!
unlabelledView post →Last 4 games: Portal 2010 Civ IV 2011 Drakensang 2011 Solitaire 2002 🤣 sometimes I get the impression I'm the only neurodivergent queer person who is not a gamer...the only other game not on the list was Pokémon Red in 1999, and there was a cute browser game with orbits and gravitation
unlabelledView post →The moment CRPG fatigue is off of cooldown, I really want to replay Drakensang. If it lives up to my memory, I will not shut up about that game for a second.
unlabelledView post →sorry no apparently that was Drakensang, a very different game
unlabelledView post →You mean like The Dark Eye? I got to experience that system with Drakensang and I absolutely love that game! Had an even better second game too!
unlabelledView post →It's not indie, but I very much enjoyed "The Dark Eye - Das Schwarze Auge". The rules are definitely more complex than DnD 5e but easier than Pathfinder. For video game fans, the two Drakensang games (no, not the MMO) are based on it.
unlabelledView post →When I worked on Drakensang Online, both the game server and game 'client' were running the full gameplay loop, the client to hide latency, and the server as the 'single source of truth', e.g. the client speculated ahead and might have been corrected by the server when the speculation was wrong.
unlabelledView post →Going through Drakensang still; I'd really love to finish it but geeze this game loves to crash. Once again, this is why games preservation is so important. So many old games out there, even if they are available simply become to difficult to even get running properly. Then they are just gone.
unlabelledView post →Two of my favorite songs that check the "evocative yet unobtrusive" criteria are "Prehnshain" from the 2009 videogame Drakensang and "That Which Sleeps in the Rotting Sea" from the arcade d&d game Shadows Over Mystara
unlabelledView post →if you ever wanna play a really good hidden gem rpg here are a few Drakensang (on steam and gog) really good game similar to DAO Sovereign Syndicate (on steam and gog) similar to Disco Elysium as it's an adventure rpg Tyranny (all PC stores) basically Pillars of Eternity in the iron age
unlabelledView post →#ttrpg quest for next year: I really need to find some bearded german or austrian dude, that will run me Das Schwarze Auge, so I'll know what's it all about. I kiiinda played the second Drakensang video game, and I really liked it.
