I can recommend this game... if you know what you're getting into. Basically, this is a 2D space shooter, one which is packed to the brim with content. A combination of recycled content, and numerous gameplay modes. And a setup that is not made obvious, and basically has to be learned through use. This game is divided into two "core" gameplay modes - AC mode and CS mode. And AC ("arcade", basically) mode is further subdivided into even more gameplay modes. So I'll start by explaining CS…

I had this game on my wishlist for about 6 years now, and humble had a good discount. Figured it was time to check it out. Unfortunately, the CS mode is the same 6 or 7 levels and bosses remixed/reassembled to create the illusion of many stages and content. By the 2nd hour you'll see everything the game has to offer. There's also a massive grind to get new/better ships and weapons. Levels are boring. Bosses are boring. One of the worst aspects of the game is all the stages look almost exactly…

I feel duped. I should have bought the base game first, and not all the addons, but the reviews fooled me. The game has only one positive, and that is it's appealing visuals, at first glance, but now that I've played 50+ levels, including a bunch of DLC levels, I can safely say this shooter is severely flawed and not worth any price. Why: 1 The levels are near empty, and crazy repetative. 2. There are maybe 10 levels, which are re-used in all 5000+ levels. 3. The levels are short, very short.…

This game isn't terrible... it's just really mediocre. I'd give it a neutral review if I could. The graphics are kinda ...meh. The music is ...meh. The gameplay is on par with your average side-scrolling SHMUP. The main difference is that it's in 3D and most aren't. There might be a lot of stages to complete in the various modes in this game, but the level designs and bosses are heavily recycled and you see the same assets used over and over and over. It gets boring fast once you encounter…

Man this game is the defenition of bland and boring.. 3000 stages lol, more like 3 stages you play a thousand times each.. same boss fights over and over. Tried it for 45 minutes and couldent stand it anymore. The gameplay and controls are also bad. Attacks you cant dodge because your ship is so slow and half of then have no telegraphing. Some bullets can be shot, other that look the same, cant. Did i get hit or did i not? who knows.. Am i damaging the boss or not? Who knows.. What am i even…

This is one of those, "Do I recommend it?" reviews more than a "Is it good game one?" I got it for dirt cheap, and its exactly what I wanted for this evening. It's an arcade game that'll be great for one, single night and I wouldn't recommend it for a penny more than you'd pay for that. Starting with the good, the Arcade Mode is great and the gameplay itself is solid. I don't want to minimize this in my review because its a good enough shmup with a really great arcade mode. This arcade mode…

Dariusburst is a port AND a new game at the same time, it brings to PC the entire arcade experience (sadly the game is missing the Another Chronicle EX+ upgrade that allows you to use the Murakumo on that mode and the online events that the arcade had and are available on the switch version), on the other side Chronicle Saviours is a full new gamemode with 186 missions and 9 different ships to choose from; As of writing this review I've clocked 97hrs and I'm still nowhere near fully clearing CS…

I do like the game, but it has "rinse and repeat" in the whole single player campaign. If you can handle that then it shouldn't be a problem. The stages are poorly design, and the presentation is vastly inferior than the classic Gaiden and Genesis Darius. What makes up for it is the music which has almost all tracks from the classic games, and obviously the bosses. (Note: I got this game key from a Degica promotion long time ago in a raffle from their twitch streams.)

After playing the Darius series for 30 years I still finding myself picking up the controller again and again. The super smooth Japanese design and soundtrack are unique and stylish. The game-play with multiple ships, routes, endings and power-ups also make that necessary difference to set it apart from many retro style shooters. If like old school arcade games, a real challenge, Japanese design, perfect game-play then this game is for you.

This is one of the greatest shmup packages in history. The content on offer here is insane. Not only that, the game is tremendous fun. The map layout is ingenious. There are easy routes for beginners, difficult routes for more seasoned players. The game contains a plethora of ships with different abilities to choose from, gloriously huge bosses, hi-score tables - and this is just the arcade mode! There is another mode with hundreds of levels (or more) to help you refine your play. There are…

More a technical warning than a review of the game itself - arcade mode has an extremely wide aspect ratio, and unless you have an ultra wide monitor or dual monitor setup, the game will be squashed right down with massive black bars on the top and bottom. I learned later that this is due to the Dariusburst arcade cabinets having a very wide screen, so the game is wide by design. Unfortunately, they haven't made any elegant solution for translating this to home play. I have a standard ratio…

Shmups have always been a part of my gaming career. I was never good at them like all the experts going for high scores and 1CC runs, but I always tried to prove my worth regardless. I also always looked at shmups as a 'David vs. Goliath' scenario; a small, one man fighter versus entire fleets and empires. And what better game to start my shmup career on Steam than Dariusburst Chronicle Saviors? Part of Taito's Darius series and home console / PC version of Dariusburst, there's a lot of content…

A truely epic shmup with gorgeous graphics and music and a solid gameplay. Loving the arcade mode and the short format. This however constrasts with the CS mode which is a marathon and turns into a burden as it is highly repetitive (the purple levels are just too much). Also, counter-bursting with most burst ships is annoyingly tricky in my opinion. Could be improved but remains a great shmup overall.

Dariusburst CS is just a great, fun horizontal shootemup with a ton of gameplay. There are three different modes of play all of which are good and differ from each other: Arcade - in it's original ultra widescreen. (Would like to see more games using this resolution with widescreen displays being the norm these days) Chronicle Saviours (CS) - in 16:9 DLC - also in 16:9 with ships that can be purchased extra with DLC specific missions to use them on (or original ships if you prefer). I think The Electric Underground said it best in his DDP DOJ rerelease overview. Something along the lines of “you can *feel* the quality in a game by touching it despite its age, an enemy doesn’t just blow up, it explodes into a dozen little pieces with different sizes for every enemy. Everything is (touched up) to make you feel good.” Dariusburst did not feel that way. I’m being less harsh on it because it was a genuine desire to revive the series that created the original PSP title, but if…

FIREFOSSIL IS APPROACHING!!! If you played the original, then you know just how badass this game genre is, otherwise, it would probably be too primitive for you by today's standards. This bullet hell side scroller was the shiz back in the day. Chronice Saviors is just more of the good stuff, more new ships, satellite pods with extra powers in expansions, etc. Get a controller and get ready for those armored sea creatures, because they are COMING FAST.

It's a classic from arcades that you would visit to put tokens into the machine, {taito] But this just isn't right for a PC game, - that cannot even use the full screen!? This game is very thick. The game is worth for the AC mode alone and its multitude of bosses and endings. CS mode, however, though the content is nice, it's too repetitive and thick for its own good. AC mode is a blast, but thread CS mode carefully. To save time, don't be cocky and don't use the preset, use a pre-upgraded ship in that mode instead.

C O N S - Overall enemy design and backgrounds are lackluster compared with previous titles. - Taito are very cheeky with the price they are asking for this.

The levels are insanely short and many are just boss fights. If you run through the game you will be fighting the same 11 or so bosses a dozen times each.
