You get into a single mission where you have to stalk merchant shipping without being detected. The learning curve is steep, you go full speed ahead and begin to cavitate. An enemy torpedo quickly finds its way towards you, swiftly sending your sub 10,000 feet to the bottom of the pacfic. You ragequit and stay clear of the game for a day, thinking of refunding it. But something inside you, the elite…

There's a third-party wrapper executable that the author refers to as "highly experimental" and version 0.02 that claims to, maybe, let you start the game and run it (if you don't mind downloading and installing highly experimental code at version 0.02). I'm not going to post it, but the link is in the comments. Unfortunately, the *developers* of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't work on Windows 10. When you click Play it just goes back to desktop. Based on forums this is a common occurrence. Would be nice if Steam would warn us before purchase.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →IMPORTANT for WINDOWS 8 and 10 USERS You HAVE to download an extra DLL file (DirectX 8 wrapper) to make it work. http://www.jiri-dvorak.cz/dangw/ Version 0.03 is the current one. Extract it into your game's folder! Now you can sunk into the game if you feel droughty... :) There's even a manual in PDF with 558 pages you can dive into!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A superb naval warfare simulation. While submarines (of US, Russian and Chinese flavour) are stars of the show and feature the most detailed simulation - the game also allows you to command ships and choppers with solid work put into their radars and sonars. The game comes with a lot of single missions to play and a campaign, which unfortunately is just a linear set of missions with little connectivity, however there's some randomness introduced in where you start and whom you fight as well as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As others have mentioned, this is a PIA to get to work on Windows 10. I tried following guides and could not get the game to start without crashing, so waste of money. Don't pay attention to those brushing it off as if it takes no effort to get this working on a newer computer - after a long time following guides and searching for solutions, I still couldn't get it working.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dangerous Waters is still playable July 2024
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cant get the game running on Windows 10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my opinion this is the best naval warfare simulator. It features 4 kind of platforms: Submarines (SSK and SSN), Frigates, ASW Helicopters and ASW Aircrafts. Each aspect of this warfare in modeled in the smallest detail. From the acitve/passive sonars to the torpedoes guidance/homing. From the thermocline to the sonobuoys. Currently there are 3 mods to bring more realism to the sim. The 1st is the Reinforce Alert (Current version : 1.42) that is an overhaul of all the sim. Graphic, Sensors,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Check this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2857166326 how to run the game on Windows 8/10/11 and fix all crashes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started out playing Crash Dive on Android. Then Red Storm Rising (venturing into Cold Waters) And some google search result said DW is the king. It was all overwhelming at first. So many buttons (like how Highfleet overwhelmed me -- such a great aerial navy sim), so much to read, so much to understand, especially about sonar and TMA. FPS Chazly really got me into it with his tutorial vids, especially the cumulative series. Worth a watch if you want to really dive deep into DW. Nothing beats…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having served in the US Navy as a sub hunter, I can honestly say this is an outstanding simulator of ASUW and ASW, perhaps the best ever made. If you are looking for some sort of "point-n-shoot", high on graphics but low on cerebrum game, then this is not for you. If you want a tactical challenge, and to get a good idea of what modern naval combat is like (and how the Navy trains and prepares itself), then this game has your name on it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They don't make them like this anymore.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boy do I love learning about buttons. There's so many of them too ! What's that beeping noise ?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Made in 2006 and still the best Naval warefare (ASW focused) game/study sim available today!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great sim. A best (but olddest) version of Cold Waters with option to play with ships and helicopter. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure how I have "played" for three hours when this game won't load. I get a black screen and a square with an hourglass in it. Tried the fixes no luck.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got it on sale for $3 hoping it would work. It runs perfectly, infact the only game on my potato that runs above 30 FPS. Great game, but if you are new you have alot of learning to do. Also has mods on the subsim mods page so go check them out. This game only works if you have Windows 7 and below, anything newer and it crashes, but there it a patch that you can download to make it run on Windows 8 and 10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They dont make them like this anymore
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old school simulation. Magnificent Mission editor. A testament to the people who made it that it still stands today.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Might require some tweaking to get this to run on a modern system, but if you like the concept of Sea Power or Cold Waters yet find their simulational aspect too shallow (he he), definitely give Dangerous Waters a try. It's a much deeper (ho ho) game, though without a dynamic campaign.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It comes with 600 PDF pages of manuals. Very funny. This heap of paper is almost as heavy as... Well, one half of the Falcon BMS documentation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game for little i got to play but now it will not load on windows 10.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RUNS ON WINDOWS 10 with this: http://www.jiri-dvorak.cz/dangw/dangw_d3d8_0_02.rar Under Windows 8/10 you have to download this additional .dll file in order for it to work (google dangerous waters windows 10 dll), also resolution has to be changed in dangerouswaters.ini with modeid = 1,2,3 in order to prevent a crash. There is also a windows speech error message triggered when entering the options menu but you can resume the game. I am running this game directly from the directory without…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game wont open for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good, but buggy. My hours are likely to stay forever 27, as after I open the game it doesnt say im playing, even though the game is running.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easily, without a doubt, the best naval simulation 'game' out there. You can learn from trial and error, watching videos online, or going through the 558 page manual, but you will have to learn. And with each new thing you learn you'll become a better player. I've put thousands of hours into Dangerous Waters, it's just that good. Less of a learning curve and more of a learning cliff. Combined with some tweaks for Windows 10/11 and the Reinforce Alert (RA) mod. This is everything you need.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why don't they make games like that anymore?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cruise ship = sunk war crimes = committed sonar officer = lynched
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently the most realistic submarine simulator you can experience, bar none. Set the settings to advanced/sim and go to town. Don't let my playtime fool you- it says 46 hours as of this review but I often manually launch a modded version, so my playtime as of now, if my screen recording archives are any indication, is upwards of 120 hours. Unmodded, Dangerous waters is the best sim out there. With Reinforce Alert mod or LWAMI, your experience will get even higher quality- I recommend becoming…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →can not enter into the game, please fix it,thanks
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my opinion Dangerous Waters is currently the best modern submarine simulation available. Being able to create your own scenarios is a great feature. As I recall the platforms you can control include the U.S. subs Los Angeles 688i, the Sea Wolf, the Russian subs Acula I improved, the Acula II, the Acula II improved, the Kilo, and the Kilo improved. You can also control the US frigate Oliver Hazard Perry. I would appreciate an updated version that includes the latest vessels and more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I struggled and googled how to get it working on Windows 10. I got it working. I also got the extensions to work and now I don't dare to delete it anymore :D But there's nothing to do, it's the best naval battle simulator so far and there's no better one yet. As long as nothing is done to beat it, I'll keep using it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Impossible to start this game, maybe it's not updated to run on modern computers / operative systems.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game, better graphics than sub command, and I have an absolute time using the voice recognition feature. Its a new level of simulation getting to command the vessel with our real voice. This game is an 'Old but Gold' game. It does have a learning curve, but having come from sub command it was not all that difficult to adjust. I say give it go if your on the fence. Do remember that it is an older game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great simulator. Wish there was a 2020 version,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really engrossing realistic naval warfare game. One of the best of its kind, and I recommend it to everybody who likes the genre. If you're new to the genre it's also great, but I'd suggest to start with Fleet Command. Nonetheless, this is a money very well spent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why oh why has it not been updated....its still in a class of its own, would buy Dangerous Waters 2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you have Widows 7 or lower, go for it. Otherwise check out 688 or Sub Command. 688 is old but it is my favorite of all the Sonalysts games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very detailed, very fun. first time you locate and sink a submarine as a helicopter is pure ecstasy
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Single Player Works great on Linux
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a nice game for Naval Combat Simulator. Needs attention if it is intended to play on Windows 10 as it needs an extra dll file to make it play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steam sucks = this does not work
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're a bit weak, kinda short and unattractive to women you'll probably wanna buy Cold Waters instead.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →>Played Cold Water and Uboat, and watched at least 2 submarine movies >Go in game and hit quick mission >Pick sea wolf USA in Korea waters >Intercept and destroy >Should be easy >Manually use sonars and ♥♥♥♥'s confusing but I see blips on the map >I do the weapon waypoints and flood the tubes to hit launch >Better be safe and change depths >Hit 1100 FT >Ship gets damaged 13% >Oh ♥♥♥♥ repair and surface >Turn on the snorkels to get air back >Quickly depth 1100FT again >Big damage ship 83%…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I clocked so many hours on this game on an old disc copy, long before I was blessed with a digital game library, in the precious days of going to a physical store location to buy a computer game, and having to sit through lengthy install times. I managed to redeem Dangerous Waters on Steam using an old serial number from my second disk copy, and it's simply awesome to have this back again. Silent Hunter 3+4 are buggy, but outstanding games giving you atmospheric scenarios in the midst of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Outstanding submarine game! Played it on crew's Mess and had a crowd on the boat. Not super accurate, but fun if you've spent any time on a sub. More accurate than any other modern sub game I've played. Wish they'd make another, but we can't have everything I suppose. Or a Virginia Class sim. Oh well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is probably one of, if not THE greatest Naval combat simulations, its truly amazing!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite position in Dangerous Waters: puttering around in a P3 and dropping sonobuoys playing the most dangerous game of Hide and Seek in world history
unlabelledView post →Spent over an hour watching the tutorials included in the game files just for me to see it doesn't work on newer operating systems when I finally went to play it. RIP my time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got it for a few dollars and put over 20 hours in. If I didn't have some other more modern sims I'd play much longer but I feel at 25 hours I've seen what I want to see. Wish some of the modern ones were as good with there immersive UI. Otherwise a great classic game to get when it goes on sale. I used this guide to get it working on my laptop. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2857166326
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best submarine simulator I know. If you're not afraid to watch hours of tutorials to understand how a submarine works and tinker with your computer a bit to be able to use it, go for it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a game called "Dangerous Waters" that is still on Steam. They were the same devs who created the training software I used when training Anti-Submarine Tactical Air Controllers (ASTACs) in the Navy. Still in use today. Hard as hell too!
unlabelledView post →This is a very good naval warfare sim. Not much needs to be said other than the game has issues working on new machines even though the games prior to this one are ready after installing. The game supports modding and this reason alone gives the game a lot of replay value. Especially for those who have scenarios from old forums downloaded somewhere on their old HDD. Other than that the game is pretty much an evolution of Fleet Command.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a classic!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Best modern naval simulation. Multiple platforms Land,Sea,Air. This is not an action sim, it's realistic and has a difficult learning curve. Making maps is fun and I enjoy dong it
