Okay, so. Completely rehauling this review because I've figured out a couple of stuff(After 5 hours). The item system has really gotten me interested. I probably overlooked it a bit at first. The healing stuff in particular. You need to be careful when you use them depending on what they are. Apples heal 1 HP, Meat 2, etc. Some items work best against some enemies and other works better against other enemies. Using your items wisely and storing important ones you know you'll need later at your…

I really want to like this game, but I put it down for very long lengths of time and when I pick it back up to try and play again I'm reminded of why I don't like the game. Would I reccomend this game? I wouldn't. Not for full price, anyway. First I think I should delve into things I do like about the game. The music, the visuals and the overall aesthetic are really nice-- it's what attracted me to the game in the first place. The music is brilliant with memorable tracks. That being said, I…

I have a very mixed, but cautiously positive opinion of Curses 'N Chaos. I've detailed the bulk of my thoughts in video format here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efUQ70co8w0 I've tentatively listed this review for 'recommended', but it should be noted that I have a fairly significant issue with the game. There's a lot about the game that's very fun to me, despite issues preventing me from really sinking time into it. Before I go into my issues with the game, let's talk about strengths:…

Pixelated beat 'em up that goes by waves. Only one screen per stage, then you have 10 waves of enemies and finally a boss. It gets very tough very quickly. Passing stage 2 was near impossible in singleplayer and challenging in coop. We managed to see the boss of stage 3 but couldn't beat it. I don't think it's for nothing the percentages for achievement completions are so low (only 2.5% finished). The main problem is that you have too many waves and you have to beat every enemy before you can…

I hate to leave spec-related issues but hear me out. So Curses N' Chaos was on Kickstarter, and one of the strech goals was a Mac port. Being a avid Mac user, I supported the project and waited to play it. Well now it's out, and it doesn't work on my Mac. I got a Steam refund, but I can't help but feel ripped off since there has been no updates on patches for the Mac port. I've asked several times but no information was given other then 'theres some weird issues'. If you can't support a…

You have a small pool of moves including the weak basic attack, and fairly useless uppercut or running attack and the jump attack (the only good move). However, combat feels clunky and slow, and sometimes hitboxes seemed to be slightly off. You basically hang out in one area as waves of monsters fill the screen. You are supposed to fight back so you can earn points to unlock new stages where you can then rinse and repeat this process. Fighting the monsters also leads to more gold so that you…

ugh i feel like the hitboxes are off and the basic punches suck the only attack i could use was the jump attack and that gets boring doing the same stuff over and over, i like the art and the music but i dont enjoy the combat to sum it up.

Game Score: 5/10 Curses 'N Chaos is a pretty simple game. Kill enemies for points and power ups. Avoid being hit to build a combo. Save up money to buy and mix items. Each stage is slightly different and offers up new enemy skins, but for the most part the enemies move the same. This game fun as a quick multiplayer game if both people enjoy arcade style point grabs. There are a couple endings to achieve, and that's where the problems start... The alternate endings require you to have certain…

Play solo or with friends in this classic single-screen arcade beat-em-up. Punch, jump and use special items dropped by mobs. With only one slot, you either use it as soon as you can or give it to an owl friend to keep. Between stages, you can mix different items giving the game a touch of original complexity. Curses 'N Chaos is an arena-style, beat-em-up game, in which you defend a specific point in each level from on-coming levels of enemies. This game harkens back to olden times, when high scores were important, and score multipliers were still a thing when you aren't hit. The retro, pixelated art style is one that I tend to love and look for in a game. And the backgrounds are beautifully detailed. The characters are fun and pleasing to look at, and the dance moves are a delight. That being…

This game is extremely flawed and needs to be looked at by the developers. Like many of the other reviews I have to say that without a tutorial, and without an options menu or just control scheme prompt this game is just unplayable. I really wish it was different because the visuals are fantastic and the music is spot on. Until the clunky controls and the lack of listing of the control buttons, I'm gonna have to say that I do no recommend this game.

good game, but a few large game breaking problems. i have seen noo ways of exiting fullscreen, i also see no way of exiting the game that isnt alt F4. also you cant play 1 player with a controler, plus there are no controls so i dont know how to play with the keyboard, i pressed every button on the keyboard and couldnt find out anything except left and right, until some of theses problems are fixed, i cant give it a positive review.

First impressions mean everything. No tutorial, no manual that I could find, controls are are a complete mystery to me, just throws me right in with no idea how to play. Tried a number of different keys but found nothing useful. I saw a guide on the forum but it's for controllers and I think it's incomplete. I'm sure this is a fine game if you've managed to figure out the controls, but I did not.

Gameplay - Fast and fun Graphics - Lovely Learning Curve - Insane You ever play a game that makes you rage-replay? This is one of those. Aside from lovely artwork, you will want to play this game over and over just to get past that next soddin' wave. Hours of enjoyment later; I'm still on level 2 stumped by wave 7. Get it. Despite the name, this isn't a tribute to Ghosts'n'Goblins in anything but the pixel art style and insane difficulty. It's a brawler with every level being just one screen with waves upon waves of enemies. You move set is limited, but enough to create a fast and furious gameplay that needs you to make split-second decisions where a difference between a jump kick and an uppercut could be the difference between winning and losing. Expect to rage-quit a lot, then come back to retry, then find out…

I'll be blunt. I expected better. The art style in the cutscenes is gold. The character designs on paper are gold. The concept is gold. The gameplay and overall game feel and flow? It's a piece of charred, rusted copper. This is one of the stiffest, most unintuitive, and most frustrating brawlers I have ever played. Movement is either super speed or speed force. Don't get me wrong I like fast movement, but your range of movement is far too limited for it. You are confined to one…

Great arcadey beat 'em up. Beautiful pixel art, top quality animations, gorgeous backdrops, and tight, responsive gameplay. Extremely satisfying to build up big chains and score more points/gold. The item mixing system is a fun little mechanic that gives the game some added depth. Only minor complaint is the awkward difficulty shifts throughout the game. The game is very challenging, and never unfair - but it can be somewhat jarring when the difficulty radcially spikes. All in all, a great…

I have to say, I love the overall aesthetic of Curses 'n Chaos to death, but others are right on the money about this game needing some revisions. It's a game I revisit often because I want to get through it, but it really feels like a game that's built with 2 Player Co-Op in mind. It really feels like a mix of things spike up the difficulty of this game immediately, like the very small and brief hitboxes, waves of enemies from both sides at virtually the same rate in both single player and…

I had a lot of fun with this one, but i can see why it got mixed reviews. BRIEF GAMEPLAY SUMMARY: It's a very simplistic arcade game, that can be quite engaging. The various enemy types have predictable attack patterns, but become difficult as the screen fills. It's a single screen game, meaning you are forced to deal with mobs before they get out of control. The levels have 10 waves, and staying in the same wave for too long will spawn a reaper that insta-kills you (Spelunky style). You have…

However, this game's learning curve isn't a curve. It's a single point way up the graph because unless you learn everything instantly you wont get very far. Curses 'N Chaos is a 2-D beat 'em up game where you fend off rounds of enemies and try to beat the boss at each level. I had gotten this in a bundle and didn't check out the Steam Store before trying this, so being caught offguard is my own fault. I was not expecting what I was going to play. By watching the opening cinematic before the title screen, I thought this was going to be a 2-D side-scrolling beat 'em up. The gameplay itself, however, didn't really do anything for me, despite the fact that I enjoyed that retro-styled 2D Scott Pilgrim brawler game a few years back. You're locked to a screen which will fill with enemies coming in from off-screen to the left and right, and must throw punches and dropped items to defeat the enemies. Fun and addictive, though flawed. The crafting is a an interesting mechanic but ends up relying on boring grinding. Other than that, Curses 'N Chaos is a pretty decent game. One of the best parts about it is the difficulty curve. You'll struggle with the first few levels, but as you get farther you'll find your skills have improved enough to make everything just challenging enough without being cakewalks. I must admit, what got me into this game at first was the amazing Paul Robertson work on the cutscenes and bosses. He's the guy who made the art in Wizorb and that Scott Pilgrim beat'em'up. But that's beside the point. In Curses 'n Chaos you basically kill waves of stuff and then the area boss. There are some item mechanics (both inside and outside of battle, with the mix option) to help you out, but it's pretty hard in general. Great couch co-op arcade game. It's challenging, it has a simple beat em' up gameplay style, and the controls are really tight. My only issue is that since there isn't really anything unique about the different levels, (although they all look great, and the enemies are just fine), I feel like the $10 pricetag is a little steep. If you have a friend to play with and you catch it on sale, though, you'll have a lot of fun.

My recommendation is mostly positive, but with some large reservations. As a 10-wave, single-screen survival brawler, Curses 'N Chaos is enjoyable, and the pixel art is impeccable. The money grind for endgame can get tedious, but C'NC's other positive qualities make this less annoying. Sadly, Tribute Games didn't port the game quite right from Sony systems to PC/MAC. If you have a friend who likes tough-as-nails 2D games as much as you do, this game is a ton of fun. Pluses: - Responsive, easy controls with enough depth to allow you to come up with some cool techniques. - Difficult, but doesn't throw any cruel twists at you. - Enemies constantly drop a variety of projectile items, keeping the gameplay fresh. Minuses: - Doesn't supports non-xinput controllers. Fortunately, joytokey exists. - Ending cut-scenes had corrupted visuals on my computer.

A fun and skilful arcade brawler with a retro feel and great animations. Feels like arcade platformers of old, except instead of advancing through a level, you remain on a single screen and must defeat waves of monsters and bosses. The controls are easy to pick up, but doing well at the game will require some practice. The alchemy system adds some depth and variety. Has good music, great pixel art backdrops and awesome looking boss monsters by legendary pixel artist/animator Paul Robertson.

If you like beat 'em ups I think you could really enjoy Curses 'N Chaos. The game is fun to play and has simple tight controls. The graphics are nice and are reminiscent of old 8-bit to 16-bit beat 'em up games. While you can play the game single player, I would recommend that you play the game co-op since it is considerably more fun and the game is easier. The game's difficulty is the only significant issue I had with the game. Even with two players I would say that the game is quite hard.…
