60 of 73 · most liked firstI see so many games that want to be modern versions of NES classics. 90% of the time, they fail to emulate anything but the limitations of the medium - only two buttons, limited color palette, etc. Ninja Seki DX knows what made the greats of the era great, and what separated them from the hundreds of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ NES games that we've all since forgotten about. Tight controls, challenging gameplay, and level design that teaches the player as they play. I really wish this had been released in 1990,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tribute isn't a bad developer, but unfortunately this game has too many flaws. The game controls *almost* good, but somehow it just feels bad. The level designs feel like they're supposed to be "difficult" but instead feel like they're made with cheap tricks in mind. Part of it has to do with things like knockback and purposefully bad enemy placement, such as spawning a ghost in the middle of a jump over a pit, where the knockback from said enemy kills you. It's a trial and error game rather…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this from humble bundle. This game...This is not a game you play for fun, this is game to play for frustration. See that enemy? No, well me neither but it will appear exactly when you are in middle of the jump over a pit and will push you back and kill you. Everything in this game is made in a way to frustrate you. Aint fun at all
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ninja Senki DX is essentially a remaster of the original Ninja Senki freeware game by Tribute Games, now on Steam, PS4, and PS Vita. I've included my full thoughts about the game in video format here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6ttH2kswAY Taking the role of the ninja Hayate, you must traverse 16 stages to avenge the death of Princess Kinuhime! Ninja Senki DX is a tough-as-nails action-platformer with a focus on perfection in execution and memorization. While it's possible to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For NES like game it's pretty much playable. Sounds are nice and crunchy. Level design allow for some skill jumping. Throw shurikens and become 8-bit ninja. Overall ok but don't expect much.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game started as a freeware game, and you can still legally download it for free. You really should buy this game either if you're a huge fan and want some additional modes or if you want to support the developpers. As for me, I saw it featured ninjas, so I couldn't resist.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Video Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rxWYHPFEK8 Ninja Senki DX is the kind of game that is simply pure fun to play, just like Tribute Games' previous titles. My review focused on the PS4 version of the game, but in my few hours on the mac version (long enough to test each mode), I didn't have any issues.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this because i read that it plays a lot like mega man. Yes it does. 16 levels of pure platforming bliss. Only thing i dislike about the game is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ achievements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=http://excitehype.com/2016/02/29/review-ninja-senki-dx-pc-ps4-ps-vita/]Full Review for Ninja Senki DX (PC, PS4 & PS Vita) was originally published on Excitehype Over the past few years there have been a lot of 8-bit revival indie games. Some just have the appearance of a game from that era, others fit the mold perfectly and feel like they belong on cartridge (i.e. Shovel Knight, Undertow, Cave Story). Enter Tribute Games, who pride themselves in creating pixel art games based on the 8-bit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a clear emphasis on NES and GB Mega Man games, but unfortunately, this game goes out of its way to avoid the fun parts and doubles down on the annoying aspects. You have screen crunch, a weapon that's almost unwieldy because it gets stuck on ledges, cheap enemies that take more hits than they should, enemy ambushes, and damage sponge bosses that rely on cheap spam attacks that can be next to impossible to dodge. If you want a legit tough ninja experience, go with Super House of Dead…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really do like this game, but it's basically Mega Man 1's Gameboy port as a fanhack to make it slightly harder. - Sprites are too big - Can't see very far ahead (Gameplay area is about the dimensions of a Gameboy screen) - Enemies shoot you from off screen (You can shoot them when they spawn just offscreen too, but only after you memorize their locations) - Constant near-death jumps by spikes and double-jump points next to pits - Weird double-jump/swim mechanic when hopping on the surface of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →controls really well and has decent level design. however, the mechanics are minimalistic to a fault and the difficulty is cheap, rather than genuine (i.e. lots of instant death traps that are a chore to avoid rather than a challenge). this really limits the level design and overall gameplay doesnt generate enough fun with its platforming; instead it rapidly goes between boredom and annoyance. it's faithful to an older era and can be picked up pretty cheap though, so it could still be for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really wish I could remap the keyboard controls.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get ready to have about 10 minutes of fun. I would instead recommend you download Kid Nikki for NES. It's just as hard as this game, but was made decently. This game is super duper pooper repetitive-ive-ive-ive.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not much, but it's a fun little game for what it is. Will keep you busy for 2 hours if you're into it. Warning: Lots of button mashing and infuriating hit-stun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/-iAHc34ZpB8 Achieving the look and feel of a 8-bit ninja platformer is commendable but the lack of modern playability features is less charming than the graphics and sounds turned out to be.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the idea, but it has very odd jumping physics. Also it took me a pretty long time to even figure out how to jump. Also at first I wasn't able to play the game. Every time I pressed to start the game, the game went from fullscreen to windowed mode or the other way around.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ninja Senki DX is awesome. It checks all the right boxes in my book. An old-school level design that never feels cheap, and is delightfully challenging. No secrets, backtracking, or any kind of lazy extension of longevity. Simple, yet efficient gameplay. Outstanding soundtrack. Besides, the art and japanese folklore-based bestiary is lovely, and the cartoony graphic style adds a quirky aspect to the game that makes it really refreshing. I had a blast with it, and I recommend it to anyone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thoroughly mediocre, often ridiculously unfair, this game is OK but nothing great. Kind of decent at $1, I wouldn't buy it at anything more.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ninja Senki DX is a fun and small platformer that is inspired by Mega Man, Ninja Kun, and Ninja Hattori-kun. I used to play those games a lot back when I was a kid on my FC and upon immediately noticing similarities, I grabbed it without thinking twice and I gotta say it was a breeze! I would be lying if I said it's a very easy game for casual players but it is indeed very easy for seasoned platformer players and it's fun too! I used to play Ninja Kun while waiting for my grandmother to prepare…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No Controller support. Camera view just small enough to be annoying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit: Thanks for the points, redditor! It doesn't make this garbage game any better! I really want to like this game. It has a wonderful retro vibe that instantly made me feel like I was a young kid playing some NES and Gameboy classics. It has some similarity to Megaman, and the first level is a great foundation for what I thought was going to be a stellar game. There was clearly *some* thought put into the level design, but it just doesn't feel like enough. The first level is such a solid…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pro: Retro music and pixel sprites Con: Brutal level design and weird screen ratio make it too hard to enjoy (tried with both keyboard and controller)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ninja please! Old sticking out of the shadows lookin ass Old chinese stars be dull as vanilla wafers lookin ass Old smoke clouds be lookin like flour lookin ass This gem is only for real ninjas.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great NES style action platformer in the graphical style of the GameBoy Color, but without the hardware limitations of eIther system. It plays like a super enhanced version of Mega Man. Super responsive controls in a visually retro package. I was a fan of the game in it's freeware edition and in some ways I prefer the previous incarnation. Mostly the soundtrack, but to my delight you can toggle between the original score and the revised. Excellent game, buy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really under-rated game with excellent controls and a fair ammount of challenge. Includes Gameboy like graphics, a good nostalgia vibe and some very memorable songs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i bought this cheap looking for a game to buy over time for a bit but i ran into so much like unresponsive controls and it just feels weird to play
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Ninja Senki DX" is quite a solid bow to the NES/Game Boy 2D action-platformer-classics with nice and charming spritework and a cartoony ninja-setting. It has the old "tapping the ol' shoot button till it bleeds" like in classic "Mega Man", a naked tanuki-statue (which may be a homage to Super Mario Bros. 3) and some nasty instant death passages, but is overall more forgiving than the games that it was inspired by (unless you play on hard that is). I liked that you get Health or 1Ups after a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ninja Senki DX is a steam videogame featuring hypodermic trays of levels in basin clapping sensations!!! The music sucks globally in white-coated orderly faded indulging shrugged puncture sedatives... It's polite cooperative in some parts but okay otherwise i give this game a 7.5/10 punch a ninja glass love the burrito master
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty basic platformer. Should be only available on mobile gaming.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game looked cool, but unfortunately poor level design generally prevents it from being very fun. The mechanics of this game are extremely limited (you have jump, double jump, and shoot, and that's it), and the levels themselves are also very linear and filled with pixel perfect jumps and cheesy instant kills. This generally means there's only one way to handle any given situation, which causes the game to feel repetitive and eliminates any potential for skillful play. On top of this,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Platform game perfection. Strict and tough, plays almost like a rhythm game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, never thought i'd experience an attempt at mixing Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man but not bad, leans more on mega man actually but no quite as difficult and for the price it makes for a great evening of light gaming!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Broken port. No options to adjust music volume. Cannot change or even see keyboard mappings. Average platformer game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I beat Ninja Senki DX. I got the best ending. It was nice revisiting the game. It's a very fun ninja action/platformer. I recommend it! Thank you all for coming to my stream. = ' ~ ' =
unlabelledView post →Controls are too tight for a game that is 128x128. Controls are not even written UNLESS you wait for the screensaver tips, I was literally stuck at the starting page because for some reason enter was resetting the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cute solid game. God help you when you encounter water lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun platformer. Some parts are difficult, even when on easy. Still a great simple action platformer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tribute games are always very good making really nice pixel games this one is very nice 2d side scroll game i mean ninjas are always badass
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ninja Senki DX is a hard game to review, it's kind of okayish but honestly I feel like other games that have emulated NES style games have done it better, alright the story. You play as a ninja out for revenge. So the likes, the old school NES graphics are nice captures the look of an NES games pretty well with a nice use of colors and scenery, the levels in the game are good and pretty diverse with plenty of nice locations that captures the feel of NES games. The music is really good, it had…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →almost a good game, but the enemies flying at you from off screen while you are jumping quickly dissapearing platforms ruins it. sad. regret my purchase
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a bit of a rage game for me. But I was determined to see it through for the sake of revenge.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are many games on steam that try to capture the retro feel of past games. Many games do it poorly, few do it well. This game is a bit in the middle. It captures the feel very well, but the game is very forgettable. Picture a well made video game that lacked anything memorable, and that's what you have here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Xbox Controller Recommended" isn't the same as "Controller Only," advertise if there's no keyboard support on a computer game. Might be a good game if it starts, but I've hit every button on my keyboard and mouse and it won't get off the title screen. Says "Hit Enter" but that just toggles fullscreen. Can't recommend a game that won't let me play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genuinely fun Megaman-esque game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like oldschool Megaman, this is a game just like that but simpler, shorter and just as tough. Expect some of that Megaman 4-style BS like enemies appearing out of nowhere, beginner's traps and such. I like that it sort of tries to cater to different gameplay styles, but most definitely you'd get a lot more enjoyment out of this if you like speedrunning. In reality, it's little more than a distraction, but it is still nice to see Tribute's origins. Recommended only if you're a megaman…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Each stage is a puzzle that you solve by memorizing it and having a bit of skill. If you like that concept this is a great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic Megaman vibes with good, minimalistic 8-bit art and music.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good for the price. A very simplified retro game. The worse thing is that it's a little too difficult and frustrating.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to play the heck out of the freeware version of this game. Ninja Senki DX is a directors cut version of the freeware title "Ninja Senki". The gameplay is like mega man and contra where you run and shoot ninja stars instead of shooting the mega buster/guns. I like the sprite work and animation. Very smooth and high quality. The game is pretty difficult, but just like games of the day and say it with me "The more you play, the better you will be" holds VERY true here. Controls are spot on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is great, simple and basic NES style platformer stylized after Ninja Ryukenden.. With other NES throwbacks (OG TMNT NES theme sample in title screen, frogs reminiscent of Mega Man 2's frog enemies). It took me about 10 minutes to figure out I could double jump..and I didn't need to collect no shoes to do so! I died a lot on my journey to this discovery. Excellent game, definitely worth trying out their other throwback platformers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enemies appear and hit you before you have any time to react. Widen the screen a little at least!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ninja Senki's free version was an enjoyable video game with tight controls and a hard difficulty level. This version of the game offers new gameplay modes and remixed music along with the same controls, and I feel it is a significantly better game versus the original version due to the new things it offers. Although the core game is the same 2D platformer, the extra content increases the replayability value by a great amount. The game itself is definitely not forgiving, so be aware that it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ninja Senki DX is a 2D retro pixel platformer aping the primitive console games of the 1990's (Alex Kidd, Super Mario Brothers). This game has a "ninja" theme which just means instead of throwing fireballs, you throw badly drawn retro pixel shuriken at enemies while navigating the timing/skill based platformer levels. A simple rule of thumb when it comes to retro 2D pixel indie shovelware trash is comparing it to the actually successful games from well over 20 years ago that they're ripping…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found this game to be stupidly hard, also not long after the game was launched, my controller started vibrating off of my desk which is not a great first impression. Whilst sometimes I like to play games like this when watching Youtube or a movie, there isn't an option to turn off the in-game audio, so I was forced to go into the Windows volume mixer to mute the game. Although, I like what they were trying to do, with the retro feel to the game, having modern accessibility features are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent game of classical style, but not my cup of tea... ...good for those looking to get that classical fix.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →gameplay is way too unfair, falls short of being a satisfying little platformer - which it really could have been with some better level designing.
