52 of 52 · most liked firstI haven't played Chicago 1930 in 2004, but I love good old games. Escpecially such isometric camera and graphics. What we have here? It is a tactical game with optional pause about gangsters and police. You can choose your team members, upgrade their stats. The interesting thing is that you have 2 opposite campaigns. At first you have to get whole city under your mafia control. Then you will play as FBI agent that starts investingation (first level is very different from previous gameplay, feel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good old classic. P.S. Game works fine for me on Windows 10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than Mafia 3. Small with big resolution, but everything is fine.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept is there and it's a good one. But it feels and plays like it's incomplete. Enemies don't react in a rational manner. Most of the time they are only staring at you. Like they are waiting for you to gun them down or knock them out. ' Overall the way they behave and react is all over the place. Sometimes it works. Most times it just doesn't. And I found no viable patch or fix. So yeah, I'm sad to say that I cannot recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just another good classic poorly optimized for modern machines
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I love this game, I played it years ago. I can't recommend it, it is full of bugs, glitches, freezes. impossible to proceed to the next level, it goes back to a different part of the game instead, this happening in later missions of the mafia levels. selecting game characters and weapons is meaningless the game resets your choices. without a good patch, it is useless.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a broken port. It may seem fine at first, but you will see the problems real soon. Like a guarantee character selection bug: you can't change your team unless one of them is dead; if you try to replace your current team with new guys and new equipment, when you start the mission you will see all the guys from the previous mission but now with empty inventories, and it can't be fixed. Most of the time it works normal but crashes and glithes happen from time to time. You can't buy this game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have no idea which stupid idiot decides to publish this game in this condition but seriously - I'm impressed. I just don't know how it is possible to bug game without bugs. How you can ♥♥♥♥ up selecting characters is just unanswerable. To change the guys you literally have to kill someone in the mission and hope that game will not select automatically another one by itself. Overall I love the game - but CD version not STEAM edition. Bought it only because CD version doesn't work on anything…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I feel very mixed about this release. For today standards the game can feel a bit archaic, but it's still very good and challenging. It's not as good as Commandos or Desperados [AI can sometimes do some weird things], but overall I got some really good time with it. But I can't recommend the steam version. Numerous glitches and bugs bites your ass every few minutes. You are basically locked with your team members and can't change them [game is always reseting your roster at the begining…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood in 2002 Spellbound felt adventurous enough to scrap the idea that a RTT requires unique characters with different interactions that play off of each other and are contingent to completing a level. The strategy is still there (vision, stealth and ammo management) and it even has a cool-yet-not-needed-to-win-a-level type of "pick your own squad" RPG feature like the older Might and Magic games. The pro strat is to use Jack Beretto (the Green Beret of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game it self is fine, my complains are on the controls that are overcomplicated, and even the simplest mechanics are frustrating, like shooting an enemy, especially if you are using more than one character at once... the friendly AI simply doesn't exist... I know this is an old game and everthing, but I find it uselessly stressfull and not enjoyable... (NB: I'm not new to old games, since I've played -and enjoyed a lot- Mafia I from 2001).

unlabelledView post →This game is like my uncle Terry, he is fun to have around and hang out with, but at any second he can crash and die.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the gameplay, loathe the bugs. It's playable, just don't expect a polished game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game breaking bugs present. Strongly advice not to buy
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game may not be liked by many, but it made my childhood memories 20 years ago
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are a couple unforgivable glitches and bugs, but nothing game breaking on windows 10 and it has widescreen support and hi res textures so it looks incredible for its age. Its less stealth tactics and more puzzle solving shooter, but in the end is one of those few games based in the prohibition era and damn fun when you get the hang of it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got to buy n download this nostalgic game after years but sadly it crashes at start of second mission. n its not just me look at discussions its some bug ♥♥♥♥
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning: Broken Game! This game has design/implementation defects that will render this unplayable for many gamers. On the latest builds on Windows 11, when trying to launch a mission, the game crashes to desktop. There's no apparent way to work around this problem. The game also features a plethora of game breaking bugs, rendering this dumpster fire an unplayable train wreck. Chicago 1930 : The Prohibition is an ancient game from 2004. It's a whopping 19 years old at the time of this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 – Tommy guns, trench coats, gangsters, and enough slow-motion gunfights to make my inner 12-year-old very happy. Chicago 1930 feels like a dusty time capsule from the era when games were rough around the edges but had buckets of personality. The controls may show their age, but the nostalgia hits harder than a Tommy gun. 🔫🍸🕴️ Follow for vintage shootouts, questionable mob decisions, and games that smell like old PC boxes. 🕴️💰🎮…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is in German with no option to switch to English or Brazilian Portuguese. This is disrespectful to the game's fans!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the state it's in, it should deserve a negative, but I've paid less than $1 for it so I'm gonna be more lenient. The premises are all good, there's the good vibe of an old-school game and the levels should keep you occupied and entertained, with actually some planning skills required to clear them. That said, the game IS buggy and crashes randomly. The way you operate your characters is also quite clunky, and frankly, a bit frustrating. Be patient and work around the bugs, you'll at least…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh boy this game is so bad its good, the control scheme is absolutely abysmal and that's being generous. That said I only paid £0.39 for it so I can't really grumble and I'll probably get more time out of this than some top end titles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In 2001 Spellbound studios released one of its masterpiece Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, followed by Robin Hood the legend of Sherwood in 2002. Both games have many similarities in design and gameplay. I just finished Robin Hood and somehow enjoyed the game despite its clunky movement and camera. A year later they released Chicago 1930 with a very different game mechanics. Now the character no longer has specific dedicated skills; all the mafias can use all the weapons. What's different…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crashes after completing 2nd mission, reloaded and now crashes after redoing 1st mission. Can't load next next mission because the game just closes. Fun while it lasted!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The "awesome" game for 0.50 euro. Yeah. Not recommended.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would love to recommend game but fact they released unpatched version on steam is inexcusable. Your best bet is getting your hands on cd version and applying official patch (which sadly doesnt work on steam). As game while not being on par with games like desperado or commandos because it lacks few helpful features which make game controls more intuitive (enemy cones, command queue etc) it has few good ideas like rpg system where your henchmen have different stats and each is good at something…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →people this game is great, tho there is a bug that may occur to you, the game won't let you change your crew and this is a very sad fact about this game. But, the game is ver enjoyable and i wish have a nice experience if you are reading this review and you are ready to play the game :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Commandos/Desperados Style Game. It's nice when you like games like Commandos and/ or Desperados. Actually, it's not a gem like these two games, but it's better than nothing. Another game I'd like to recommend is Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood. Desperados, Robin Hood and Chicago share their background. The story is nice, even if it's not a Blockbuster or something. You experience how Don Falcone gains and looses control over Chicago. Destroy the enemy gang and put some gangsters in…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Chicago 1930, developed by Spellbound and published by Microids, is a real-time tactical game that immerses players in the volatile atmosphere of Prohibition-era America. Set in a version of Chicago drenched in crime, corruption, and ambition, it offers a dual narrative structure where players can experience the conflict from two opposing sides: the law and the mob. It’s a premise rich with potential, promising to let players decide whether to clean up the city’s underworld or dominate it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oldie but Goodie. Quirky and charming, with nothing really special story, that just has enough trappings to give a sense of a theme. Be warned, that Steam version is bugged and you won't be able to really change your team members. You can play freely through w/o problem, but you ain't hearing just a few quips each character gets on knocking out / arresting someone, talking or getting killed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's an aptly named development studio - or was. All of their isometric titles, composed of relatively simple elements, have a certain magic to them. Needless to say, this one is no exception. It introduces basic adventure game mechanics like scouring the level for information and keys to doors and lock boxes, while blending these mechanics with squad-based stealth strategy and a bit of action. None of it seems particularly deep, but the end result is delightfully enchanting. The game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a glitch in the game, which does not allow me to pick new players, if I do I get back the old players but without any of the weapons they were given. I basically cannot play with the new players even though I unlocked them!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool Commandos-style mafia themed game. Unfortunately the Steam version is very buggy and unstable, so you might as well track down an original copy. I'm giving it a recommendation bc the game is still fun and worth playing through.
