Ceville

ActionAdventureStrategy

Developer Realmforge Studios

Ceville is a humorous graphic adventure video game developed by the German game studio Realmforge Studios and published by Kalypso Media. Despite the game's use of 3D environments and models, the gameplay is very true to the graphical point-and-click adventure tradition of gameplay, immortalized by game series like Monkey Island from LucasArts and the King's Quest series from Sierra Online. One of my first Steam buys, and money well-spent-- of course, I got it on sale. ;-) I don't think it's going to replace some of the great point-and-click classics, but it's a nice little game in its own right and is worth a look. It features nice 3D graphics (especially for its time), very good voice acting (eveything is voiced), quite humorous, and a good story. There are three playable characters: Ceville (the sniveling deposed ruler), Ambrosious the (hilariously) pompous knight, and…

It was very hard for me to put a positive review. No, don't think that the game isn't nice. The game is really awesome. There's an excellent storyline, funny dialogues (and monologues), difficult riddles, original characters, and awesome cutscenes. So, you're starting thinking why I said that it was hard for me to put a positive review? Because of the countless crashes! The game crashed so many times, that I seriously thought of unistalling it. The constant crashes were making it unplayable.…

One of the most underrated, unkown absolute PEARLS of point-and-click adventure games. The game design and universe is creative, colorful and the universe is set in a magical medieval time. The music and characters are appealing and varied, and even though you're (mostly) playing as a malevolent king, you will cry not from sadness, but from laughter. I played this several years ago, and I've been looking for it ever since. I finally found it when Ceville was on sale previously this year.…

This game is a buggy mess with ridiculously shallow humour and downright idiotic puzzles. I experienced about 15 crashes in 3 hours of gameplay, which would not even be fine, if the loading times were not as obnoxiously long. That, again, wouldn't be as frustrating without the game softlocking from being stuck in an animation. To top it off, the interaction feels extremely sluggish - animations are very slow, you have to click multiple times to execute something, 'cause somewhere someone was…

Fairly run of the mill point and click adventure game. Graphics are good enough, although the framerate can be quite poor. Characters are good enough but very cliche. Writing is good enough. Puzzles are good enough. Loading times are irritatingly slow. All in all everything about this game is good enough, but there's nothing to make it stand out. A competent but unremarkable adventure.

⊕Voice-acting is cute, and the cast is likeable. Characters are all stylized like caricatures, and they did it better than Psychonauts did! Story is done largely from the eyes of the bad guy, a role that is interesting to watch be explored. Interface is familiar and easy to pick up quickly. ⊖Glitchy and has a tendency to crash. Puzzles are far too easy. Dialogue is one-note and can often be pointless or a little too corny. ✎Ceville is unspectacular for a point n' click adventure but it's…

You will spend 50% of the time watching loading screens and the game will crash every 20 min, but it's worth it, the story is stupid and funny enough to keep you engaged, characters are nice and original, the voice acting it's great, the graphics are decent for it's age and the best thing it's the price

General Thoughts/Overview: This game is well worth playing, but I warn you before we even begin that it has serious, SERIOUS issues you should go in prepared for, or it’ll drive you halfway to madness. Ceville is a modernish 3D point and click adventure. Clearly inspired by the old days in terms of humour, it puts you in the boots of the titular deposed tyrant as you puzzle your way to revenge. In terms of the art, its style is similar to the telltale Sam N Max adventures or their ‘bone’…

One of the point & click games I remember the most fondly from my younger days. In fact it's one of my favorite point & click games from the 2000's, along with Jolly Rover, Ankh, Vooju Island, Machinarium and the classic Runaway 2. I still need to replay this so I won't get into specifics, but I'll just mention that unlike most P&C's I can't remember being frustrated by the gameplay or annoying sequences, so it's a big plus. It also had me laughing a lot at its main character, halfway between…

I have no idea how this ended up in my library, but I assume it was a freebie. This is a fun little fantasy point and click; where you switch between 3 characters. It followed the Monkey Island "No dead ends / no death" formula as most games today, and seemed inspired by Book of Unwritten Tales. The main twist is that the primary character is an evil tyrant trying to get back his kingdom instead of a Hero. The game was a lot longer than I expected, which was a joy to see a game with some…

I really tried to like this adventure game. Humour is okay, the story is okay, the gameplay is okay, so is voice acting, graphics etc... and yet for some reason it's just very boring after a short while. Maybe adventure games fans will enjoy it more than I did, but I would not recommend Ceville to anyone because it simply can't hold one's interest.

A fun enough game, awesome if you can get it on special. It's not an exceptionally long game, which I guess can be both a pro and a con depending on how you find the game. For the most part I found it enjoyable. A lot of the humour was pretty cheesy, but they're well done and there's bound to be a few in there to make you laugh. To progress in the game, you have to play a few nasty pranks of some of the other characters which is always amusing. I was able to figure out most of the game…

Surprisingly, I liked thig game. The characters were fun to play, the voice acting wasn't too over the top, funny scenerios, the puzzles were perfect in the sense that someone like myself can solve them without a strategy guide, and overall the story kept me interested. Even though I feel the game is aimed more at a younger audience, I still enjoyed it. Also the game design visuals and colors were pleasing. For a point and click adventure game, I give it 6.5/10

Ceville has a true honor in my library, as it is one of very few adventure games I've actually taken the time to complete. Ceville has great graphics considering what it is, supports my resolution, has a great sense of humor, and the length of the story felt just right. I did occasionally have to google for help, but that is part of adventure games anyways if you ask me. In Ceville, you play a former tyrant trying to get his throne back. This point-and-click adventure flips the usual hero story completely. Instead of playing some noble good guy, you control a snarky, scheming villain who's absolutely ruthless. The humor really carries this game. I found myself laughing at Ceville's conversations with characters like the stuck-up paladin Ambrosius and the clever orphan Lilly. The game constantly pokes fun at typical fantasy tropes. It follows the standard…

Well, at most of the part, this is an Adventure game done right. Up to a point that it gives the feel of the old Monkey Island itself, well, not that great but something close. BUT! There's quite a lot of game breaking bugs that require the players to solve themselves before they can continue playing. That's the main reason for the thumbs down here. If you are tech savvy and knows your way around game bugs, this is highly recommended. If you don't want to bother with fixing the game to play…

TL;DR If cheesy point & click adventures are your schtick, this might be worth picking up; be sure to read the warnings though, as this game does suffer from some technical difficulties. Technical issues Now, before I can actually start the review properly, let me begin by stating that I had to edit some game files to even get the game to run. It's very rare that I don't like a point & click adventure game but I just really couldn't get into this game. The graphics are kind of meh. They are not as good of 3D textures, rigging, and animating as I would expect from a game in 2009. At the time I'm writing this (2019) I realize the graphics may not be up to modern standards 10 years later but I never liked this style of clunky, cartoonish 3D animation and I know that they could probably have done better in 2009. I did my own amateur…

The game is a bit glitchy, and prone to occassional random freezing/crashing. The puzzles generally run a bit more on the easy side than most games in the genre, and the dialogue, while occassionally humorous, tends to more often feel repetitive and useless. And, the graphics may or may not appeal to you depending on your point of view. That said, while these are highly notable cons, there is something endearing about the characters in the game and the overall puzzle that is being solved. That…

Great game, colorful and fun, with amazing voicing, and very unhinged humor sometimes(I absolutely loved it). Lots of random pop-culture and fairytale references you don't expect. It's pretty logical but a couple of times made me stuck in the story because some items are really small or blend with the surroundings(so some pixelhunting happened). LOTS of funny dialogs and descriptions. Totally worth a try if you're into point and click games

Very nice game. Gets tad slow at times but it feels very rewarding when you solve a particular puzzle without walkthrough. I just loved the remark Ceville makes after the election. That alone earns the game 8 out of 10 . I would have rated it even higher (even 10) if it was paced better and controls were a little better. Double click to run does not work as desired. BTW, don't see my playtime. I am offline gamer. I play most games offline.
