Slay The Spire meets Darkest Dungeon. From the start this game looks polished and very well made. I play a LOT of roguelikes from the obscure to the popular and I'm not sure any game's intro animation and mechanic explanation is as smooth and digestible as this one. Combat has a ton of different mechanics but doesn't feel overwhelming. The main boss of the first zone felt way too punishing, so I had a discussion with the dev on his reddit post about the game and he made some adjustments…

Wait for a balance patch - a certain boss is basically impossible This is a very promising game, great graphics, but until this boss is patched, any great run meets a very deflating and unfair end. SPOILERS BELOW One of the bosses, Yog shoggoth (IIRC), is able to transform your characters into a creature whose only action available is to HEAL the boss. Considering you cannot skip any character's turn, you're forced to watch, turn after turn, your own characters heal the boss and undo all…

Well, i feel like i have to post this here, this is my surprise for this year but even if: + the graphics are awesome and the animations both idle and active are very well done + the turn based experience has nice grounds with diverse heroes and enemies + the price is excellent for this game's production value + the devs seem nice on both forums and their discord i cannot recommend this game because: - after these months the game has AWFUL BALANCE: enemy damage is VERY high and your health…

Afree putting 60 hours into this game, I can confidently say that the gameplay loop is downright addictive. In the likes of Slay the Spire or Hades, you will find yourself restarting a run right after finishing one just to try to break the game with a new combo. On top of being really fun to play, Break the Loop’s design is also really sleek , and the writing cracked me up at times. Keep an eye out especially for Friedrich’s pep up talks, which contain gems of non-sensical humour.

This game is very good. It combines the best elements from games like across the obelisk and darkest dungeon into a fun game play loop without the silly filler mechanics.

I've just started the game and i'm in love with it ! I can already see that there are a lot of combinations possible, we can create various builds with different characters. Besides the fact that we can create our own map is very cool. I guess i've never seen it before in any other roguelites

Purchased Break the Loop for Switch. Fun roguelike clearly inspired by Darkest Dungeon. However the game does not work on Switch yet. Must not have been play tested properly on the console prerelease. Boss fight load screens crash. Rewards bug out and drop. Not playable as is on Switch.

I really hope more people find this hidden gem. Great art, evocative of Adventure Time. Great mechanics. Seems like the dev team is responsive to feedback. I advise increasing the animation speed after playing through the first game. The animation itself stays very fluid and the game just moves so much better at 2x IMO. I'd love to see more scenarios, heroes and capsules.

It is a decent game. I enjoyed my time with it, enjoyable for a few runs, though I worry about replay value. The system is unique and has charming elements to it, though there seems to be a limited amount of variability. Short review: Fun experience with intuitive battle system. Just don’t expect longer term replay value. Longer review: Pros: Interesting and intuitive combat system Time system rewards players for optimal play Fun little events that add life to the…

A lovely little tactical game that is absolutely amazing! It is clear that the developers are paying tribute to DD2, which they totally nailed it because the game is super fun to play! Although the mechanics are quite simple, there's a lot of depth to the game since it provides a whole lot off possible combination on tactics as well as all sorts of funny in game events ( PS: The PTW vending machine really gave me a chuckle), which I am still exploring. Plus, there's different difficulty…

the game idea is great but the problem is quite aberrant, there no real interest to do a run, there no real unlocks and there no continuity, what is the point? I dont get it, a game where you just do a run to do a run?

A straightforward and fun turn-based rogue-like where you control a team of 4 colourful characters to save the world. Characters all look and feel unique with their abilities. The combos you can make based on their abilities can range from good to great, especially once you add capsule effects. There is a timer for each battle to encourage effective tactics for better rewards. Visuals are simple but effective with some great looking pre-fight artwork and cool action animations. So give the…

Break the loop is a team-based roguelite who allows you to bring a party of four heroes in order to defeat invaders. His mechanics are pretty easy to handle but it doesn't mean there is not some depth in it if you decide to invest. You'll need to manage not only your party but also the way you will handle your run by defining the timeline of the different fights and events you'll get to encounter until the boss of the area. - The characters are all different enough to bring variety and…

The game has a nice artstyle but it ultimately ends up being fairly repetitive. Each party NEEDS 1 of each role, with 4 slots, 4 roles and 3 of each role. While that sounds like enough runs to diversify, a lot of the characters have built-in synergies with others which narrows down the diversity a lot. The only way you diversify during each run, is by adding modifiers to characters. But it won't change the way the character plays or feels. I could see myself playing this for maybe 4-6 hours…

This game is almost worth playing for the art and animations alone. The way battles start, the character and enemy design, the death animations... every visual aspect is basically 10/10 amazing, original, and funny in a subtle, thoughtful slapstick way. I just can't say enough about how good the art is. The rest of the game isn't quite up to that standard, though, so this is a pretty lukewarm thumbs up. The actual concept of the game is very cool on paper, but turns out to be a bit limited.…

Very fun roguelite ! The game mechanics are not too complicated, though they need some getting used to. The graphics, animations and sound design really serve to tie th whole game together. The added humor is very nice too. Every character has their own mechanics and available upgrades, which make the game very diverse and allows you to fine tune your team to your own playstyle. Overall I really recommend anyone to try out the game ! (although I do have to warn I'm sensing that this can be…

A fun roguelite turn-based tactics game with clever gameplay mechanics and a roster of unique characters to experiment with. With an appealing visual style, clever anti-stalling mechanics that are narratively justified, and multiple difficulty tiers make this an easy recommendation for fans of the genre! My only nitpicks are some minor bugs (not every ability and capsule does exactly what it claims to do), some unclear tooltips (presumably due to translation errors), and a controversial…

“Break The Loop” **WORKS GREAT ON STEAMDECK** I guarantee you’ve not seen a game like this before. You might think you have, but the combination of sub-elements from other games with its own unique mechanics tying it all together make this game absolutely a one of a kind experience you shouldn’t pass up. Turn-based at its core but you and the enemy share the turn “currency” and can force each other to take or lose turns Fun Roguelite mechanics akin to the charm system in WILDFROST and…

Break the Loop is a fun and challenging roguelite inspired by the Darkest Dungeon combat and unforgiveness system. While you loose your adventurers in DD here you only loose the run and can try again using a different approach. The game's uniqueness lays in that you need to compose the right team for beating the right biome, some are harder than others. The first biome feels really hard until you unlock new characters which thanks to their passive abilities make it easier. You will fail and…

Break the Loop is a great turn-based RPG in the likes of Darkest Dungeon, Pixel Heroes and other roguelites. I love this game and get a lot of enjoyment out of it, but I also have had more intense rage and frustration when things go wrong in this game than any other game in years. I can get lost in the game for hours and then ragequit but still come back later.

Looks fun at the start, but then you know that skills of Tank A better work with support C, damage dealer B works best with healer A and your will to experiment is gone. Why put more time and effort to explore when few words do the trick?

Really cute! I think the base mechanics are great. I like how balanced and powerful status affects are in the game. I wish there was a bit more explanation on relics, but maybe I just skipped past that too fast. I love how the characters have a more indepth design in the quick animations.

I've just started to scratch the surface of what is unlockable and doable in Break The Loop but couldn't have higher praise for the game. It deserves critical success and acclaim for a rogue-lite that has fun looping, progression, hero unlocks and a satisfying combat system. If you like turn based combat, fun dialogue and art- immediately buy this game! Hoping to see more characters, unlocks, and worlds to explore in the future!

A decent rougelike with party based combat similar to darkest dungeon, although there are a few differences. It uses a timeline system where each action taken by a party member costs time, and you can manipulate this by using abilities that boost your units time or penalize the enemy's. Also, you cannot upgrade your party's abilities, they can get additional passives though as well as capsules which are sort of like equipment just with no body slots, and these can augment their stats and…

This is a recommendation, but not a warm one. This is a fairly inventive roguelike, with multiple exceptional mechanics that combine well. The problem is that there isn't a lot of variety between runs - there are few enemies, and the heroes evolve only incrementally.

3 Stages no variety terrible balance, People just need to grasp that they can't make the next slay the spire when so many of these clones suck so much ♥♥♥♥. Half the heroes aren't viable and in the ascension modes you have to go all in on damage because of the structure of the game. Good luck dealing 6k damage in 10 turns when the average hit does 40-80. Really fun little light weight Darkest Dungeon and STS mix with the ability to map out your teams/combos/paths and Runs. This Game is almost deceivingly good & wicked fun. Don't let the graphics put you off or fool you this is a tactically crunchy game with some whimsy sure but also a lot of dark humor to it. A Steal at this price for the value and enjoyment you get. Break the Loop is a great roguelike rpg. It's not breaking the mold, but it's got a few tricks up its sleeve and has charm in spades making it so that it doesn't feel like you're looping back to a game you've already played. Did I write the awkward previous line purely so I could use "break" and "loop" in a single sentence? How dare you, of course not. Video: https://youtu.be/LtS3DuHyego If you're a fan of roguelite and Deckbuilder combos I think you'll enjoy it. The art is fun, and the gameplay works pretty well. There's a big focus on buffs and debuffs, which isn't really my jam. I also absolutely despise the first boss Yot Sogoth or whatever, to the point that I have no desire on a second attempt. It took me a little time to get into this game, but once it did, I was hooked. I didn't find that it got too repetitive over the three scenarios (and three difficulties on top of that). According to my profile, that was 7/33 successful runs. Once I had 100%'d the game, I did briefly experiment with the random team (allowing for duplicate classes), but I didn't feel the desire to finish another run - it felt like I had already done everything. Fantastic and relentlessly challenging roguelike with some solid mechanics I haven't seen elsewhere and combat difficulty I would liken to Darkest Dungeon. Overall solid in all categories... variety, graphical style, challenge. My only real gripe is the music is a bit sedated.

This game has a lot of really interesting and fun ideas, but I think in it's current form it's a bit too vanilla, I would like if individual campaigns you build were longer personally, and had more customization because I really enjoy that aspect of the game.
