First impressions: Disappointing and sloppy. Not worth $30. Some aspects seem rushed and not fully finished. I really wanted to like this but ultimately, it feels like a chore to play. One thing that is a huge plus: the ai plays by the same rules you do. The ai does NOT cheat! Finally a game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short, Short Version: Broken and repetitive. Short Version: Black Legends is fundamentally unbalanced with an inconsistent UI and clarity. These things are fixable and hopefully will be in these last few days before release. However, the boring, extremely repetitive battles probably are not, barring some sort of fundamental redesigns that will almost certainly not be happening. For me, if the UI and balance are fixed up I could find fun over the course of the ~20-25 hours of gameplay, but the…

This is from an indie developer and not a AAA one so there is a limited amount of time and money that can be put in a project. This naturally means some areas of the game will suffer and I am a bit more lenient regarding it. My thoughts: My first impressions of this game were actually very good. This is because I love the 17th Century period in general and was drawn to the turn based approach of this game. I have also…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Black Legend is a highly climatic turn based RPG set in XVII century Europe. It is perfect for fans of hardcore combat and, thanks to custom difficulty, it's suitable for more relaxed and story focused gamers as well. Pros: ✓ Art, soundtrack and voice acting are very good. ✓ Flexible custom difficulty makes the game accessible to everyone. ✓ A large variety of weapons, abilities and classes makes for an interesting gameplay. ✓ A well narrated story that tickles player’s curiosity. Cons: ✗…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For most of a time I thought it is a decent game. Sure it's tidious, you got to fight the same enemies in the same locations over and over. Sure the fight system is too complicated to the point where you don't have to care much about most of mechanics. Sure the world is empty and all of the districts look the same. But this game is competent, it's easy to get the story, the atmosphere is engaging, voice acting is very good and dialogues are well written. There is a lot of character classes, a…

Turn-based battles in the style of XCOM, but not in a science fiction scenario but in the early modern era of the 17th century? Not a very often chosen scenario for a computer game. However, Black Legend is a gritty turn-based tactical role-playing game, set in the 17th century in a world full of alchemy and religious fanatics. Not to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bumbling in the grey ... so much promise - Mercenaries fighting in XCom Style in a fantasy setting. So dissapointing the result. Cheap graphics, cheap execution, cheapest Battle system (you can´t even attack diagonally.. the enemy is beside you and you can´t attack... really?), and even cheaper UI. It has some interesting ideas (able to changing classes throughout the game) but in the end is just way to lackluster for the price. Score 3/10

Characters are built using open class customisation through the use of requisite equipment. Abilities can be cross-classed and levelling sees stats rise organically according…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a fun concept, it works ok enough to be amusing. However it has a lot of bugs that cause the game to crash, and some research shows the dev is just gone. None of these bugs will be fixed, so please Do Not Buy this abandoned game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Black Legend is almost a good game. Graphics are pretty decent, if not a little drab. And, the engine is smooth. I don't mind the high learning curve. Whether that's changing your class, adding cross class abilities, equipping /changing items, or even moving during combat. And, speaking of combat, it's not too bad, but definitely needs improvements. However, there are some design decisions that are just poorly thought out. The first is the healing; you can first aid bandage yourself for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this, but unfortunately I couldn't. The game is littered with janky and clunky gameplay, many quality of life issues and an overall bland UI system. The VO work also leaves a bit to be desired. For the current price, I can't recommend, but if you want to give it a shot, I suggest waiting for a sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a good game with really varied synergies and options for classes (kinda the FFT system, but with weapons). Keept me entertained until completion. IF YOU LIKE TURNBASED GAMES; BUY IT! But it has some flaws! I Was playing on normal by the way -Quest systems makes you go from A to B to many times like a courier boy (at least everything is marked and properly signaled in the town, not in the map sadly), the back and forth becomes anoying at some point so no new game plus for me, I saw…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the story line already. The atmosphere is very intense, it adds so much to the immersiveness. A bit rough around the edges but the combat and story make it worth your time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like "XCOM-likes," then this is right up your alley. While flawed, Black Legend is incredibly impressive for something done by such a small team. The world is interesting, the atmosphere and music are on point, and the characters are fun. Choice matters, playing it cautious matters, auto save keeps people like me who like to save often and reload when making mistakes actually sit and think about tactics as opposed to loading last save and trying again. You get attached to your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game! Specially with so many few tactics games in the XVII Century. It has Mordheim vibes! And will probably get better with a few patches!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A tactical turn-based combat in the 17th century Search every corner hidden treasure and loot Apart from the main quest there are side-quests as you wander the streets of a doomed city and fight bloodthirsty cult with daggers , rocks and cross bows you can also climb crates and walls discover each characters development like XCOM a bit more complicated experience like Mordheim
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. It does SO MANY things that I really like! The combat system is interesting and clever, but poorly implemented. It's just a bit too basic, too easy to stack all the colors. I'd like to see the Humours system expanded to more than 4 colors, to make it harder to overlap Catalyzations. I also very much like the leveling system, the mechanic of learning skills from weapons. It's a fun idea, but again poorly implemented. It would seem that each class has a total of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tutorials leave a lot to be desired and game is overall a little buggy, but other than that the core gameplay is there and the art is cool.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Black Legend is a nice game with a creepy atmosphere (both sound and visual). It's a turn-based strategy game with its share of originality in its gameplay, namely alchemy. Hard to pick up, alchemy is very satisfying when it is well executed. I just died after an hour of playing on maximum difficulty. The AIs are therefore quite tough, and even if their behaviour may seem rather basic, you will still have to be strategic to defeat them. A few small negative points however, the battle locations…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the aesthetics. It does a lot of things right. But overall, it's just a very small, simplistic, and repetitive game with no replay value.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it. Will update (gradually) till I finish. First update: I am really enjoying the atmosphere and the whole feel of the game. The areas are dreary and you actually feel like you're fighting in the fog. But the best part is: THE EQUIPMENT! I'm a big fan of realistic looking armour and weapons and this game is just what I was looking for. Normal sized weapons, an insane variety of them, great designs, armour that fits the setting, great metallic textures. Its not always pretty -and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far a very enjoyable game. It lacks the depth of story of most RPG's but makes up for it in other ways. The game is challenging, the weapons are fun to use, the tactical combat is also fun and engaging. The notes you find throughout the game can be quite humorous and the enemies are interesting and unique.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay: 8/10 Graphics & Sound: 7/10 Narration: 7/10 ✔️ Interesting and intricate turn-based tactical combat. ✔️ Engaging and deep progression mechanics. ✔️ Very cool costume design. ✔️ The narration is actually pretty okay, even though a bit on-the-nose. ❌ The onboarding is awful - the game just showers you with all the game mechanics right from the start, which makes them a bit difficult to appreciate. ❌ Some annoying bugs. They aren't too frequent, but when they happen boooy they suck. ❌…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a little buggy and very rough around the edges, but it's got its own sort of charm. The setting is more unique than the usual fantasy fair, but the whole package over-all seems a little under-utlilised. Mechanically, things are also a little shaky, and the whole game feels like it could have used a little more time in the oven. Even so, it's a fun time. It's good, but not great. If you're a fan of turn-based tactical RPGs and you want a setting and mechanics that are a little…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great, simple but not simplistic squad based tactical game with some fun ideas around cross-class abilities. The setting and story are surprisingly deep and well thought out if not especially complex, and there's enough content here to keep you engaged for the 15-25 hours the main campaign takes (there are a decent number of side objectives that can really expand your playtime). Bugs are the only major issue, I've had a few crashes and party members getting stuck in combat, nothing game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The good Turn-based combat that's satisfying to master I love the atmosphere: set in a dark and brooding city, whose regions/districts offer enough variety to make exploring a new area interesting and unique Great array of weapons and armour, each with its own description Lots of classes to explore Armour worn and weapons wielded make cosmetic changes to characters Bosses are unique and memorable, although this might also be because they are very rare The neutral Combat gives you the info you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for $15 USD it's a hard game to beat for the price. It's not the greatest out and the graphics are a bit lacking, but it's a stable and complete finish, unlike a LOT of so called "complete" games out right now. That said however, the customization of weapons and so many classes is one of the great draws to this game. Really hope they continue making this style of combat system where cross-over skills and continually using your skills is what levels them. Hard to beat for the price and the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and interesting twist on an open world game with turn based combat. If you enjoy dark fantasy games with unlimited amounts of customization and strategy then this is the perfect game for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →slow turn based battle sim with rudimentary character creator. lots of potential with the 17th century setting and humours concept but ultimately completely underwhelming
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's slow at the beggining, but when you get other classes and skills it's gets better. Now you can inflict different humours and it shows potential.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think they over compensated trying to remove the thing everyone complains about in these Xcom style games.. The miss rate, so instead of having a miss rate, its some weird color combo system. I love these kinds of games, but so far if feels worse than a low quality indi, Not worth the money at all. maybe 10 bucks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Black Legend is a tactical game with turn-based combat. The story is linear with 1 choice at the end. There are side quests with different objectives, which do not offer any choice story-wise, but include a lot of backtracking. The character development system is class-based and classes are unlocked with equipment. In turn, equipment provides active abilities (they can be used with another class) and passive ones (only for their class). Stat growth depends on the class chosen. Equipment…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: The bare bones of a team based RPG, with a nice class and combat system that will keep you entertained for a while if you can look past the lack of polish. As it stands, it would be more at home on a PS Vita than a PC, but it's not a bad game. I confess to being a little disappointed with this game off the bat. The sample videos and pictures do a great job of painting it in the best possible light (obviously) and the actual experience is somewhat different. However, the few hours I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are some interesting ideas, but they are not implemented well. The fights are quick but repetitive and simple. I got bored after just a few hours. At first the graphics is thematically fittig since your playing in a city full of fog. But after a while you start realizig there is no change, neither in style nor design and no place to remember. Not worth 30 bucks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a rare gem, even though there are others like it. It's true that it has gone through some rough stages, but if you like turn based tactics, this is a challenging title. Especially on higher difficulty, but unlike in the other similar games, the Ironman rules are not about the save scumming. You will die if you turn up that dial. That is certain. You will only have one save and one goal, to survive. Luckily they don't throw you in the deep end straight from the beginning, but you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, is the game good? Yes. Why? Well I may be biased cause I'm a fan of Mordhiem and Xcom and this is like a child of the two. Essentially, it's an RPG where you explore the city and when you fight, go to XCOM-style arenas. The game looks like Bloodborne, plays like XCOM, and is fun. I think the class system is neat being able to swap classes like Dragon's Dogma to build truly custom characters in terms of skills and abilities. The story is simple but fun and the lore is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like turn based tactics (Xcom like) games and have tried hard to like this game too but unfortunately this game fails hard. It does not even look finished and controls are clumsy. Combat mechanics are lame in best words and there is no tactic except hitting enemy. Graphics look like a 2000 game and I do not recommend it to anyone to buy it except from a huge sale or get updated from this alpha look state. I applied for a refund and really regret for time spent for this game.

unlabelledView post →I really enjoy this game. Just a piece of advice - play at hard difficulty. Great visual style, awesome weapons and armor (with few exceptions :)) Still, it is not an rpg. It is squad based turn based tactics and thats it. Tactic is based on original system of class changes, synergy of active and passive skills. More spectacular camera work during attacks would add more pleasure for wielding those rapiers and sabres! Story is oki-sh but nothing more. Still, it is not about the story but about…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can punch a dog in the kidney so that alone makes the game worthwhile. Also dogs carry around stacks of grenades which is cool too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great idea with class/skill system and good climate. Other then that it's not very well done - story starts off interesting but then it's pretty meh, alchemy system is a nice idea but very poorly executed. The worst thing in the game is probably combat - constant "move behind enemy, click attack", no strategy, no opportunity attacks etc. And you have to fight a lot in the game, since enemies respawn. RPG with turn based combat should have a lot more when it comes to actual combat.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Positives: - Walking freely around the Gilded Claw world and through the city until a battle starts gives you the freedom to explore all of the misty streets and find better loot. - It felt very satisfying to free the city from Cultists and other mobs. The game was rewarding in the beginning. - The level design is laid out for you, meaning that you can go either this or that way, but not entirely free roam until you have to either go to a new district or through a gate. - I love the Era this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game! It looks amazing! I played the demo as well and this did not disappoint!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very solid game. Has some unique fighting mechanics that make the turn based combat very strategic. The world itself is fun, but a little hard to navigate. Overall I am enjoying it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it! The battles is quite simular to Expeditions: Conquistador/Viking. The progression system is somewhat wierd but I mostly enyoy it as a fresh take on the genre. Great setting! I'm a bit surprised of the mixed reviews but apperently some people don't like black powder in their tea.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoying this game so far! It's a lot like Mordheim but also a lot better, as the AI/computer doesn't cheat. I'm having a lot of fun exploring, finding new gear, and leveling up my crew. There are a few hiccups here and there (UI typos, multiple instances of one character appearing on screen, speech volume inconsistencies), but no game-breaking bugs as yet. The tactical combat is fun, the alchemy system is a cool mechanic, and I like having a lot of control over how my characters…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Points of consideration: - This is an indie studio. - I judge games for what they are, not for what I want them to be. In this game you go into different districts of a city overrun by a crazy cult, set in a pseudo 17th century. Your mercenaries will engage in quests that will take them around the city and will enter in fights in a turn-based, strategy style. A little similar to XCOM, but the mechanics are different, no cover, no misses. Let's start with the areas of improvement first: - The…

A mysterious, dangerous fog has beset a Not!Dutch city, and you and your group of mercenaries have been tasked to cleanse it and destroy an evil cult that has taken control. You'll fight cultists, former mercenaries turned mad by the fog, monsters, and mutants, and you have 15 playable classes at your disposal, depending on the equipment. Every class has unique skills and armour,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good idea with a weird implementation i really couldn't feel it right.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice slow paced game. The possibilities of the tactics which can be played are not too massive and not too complex. I like this as it doesn't need too much thinking and is perfect for casual players. There need to be some minor improvements when it comes to some camera bugs etc. and some combat bugs like clicking on the wrong field when a mercenary is on the high ground and you then "click through" this field and select a field on the low ground. All in all it's a very nice game for the casual…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really fun XCOM-like. I don't know what to call the genre. There's a lot of weapon and class variety/combos to test out. Fights are quick and reward learning the '4 Humours System' quickly. I like the darkness and atmosphere of Grant a lot. Tons of fun! You do have to read - and then reread - quests and town signs every now and again but it made for a more immersive experience for me overall. Much love
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing this game for an hour or so I got the hang of it and faced the challenge on a higher difficulty and those enemies do pack a punch then holy **. As so far I'm loving the visuals and i'm having no issue with immersion as the MC doesn't speak, which I find favorable. The thought process during combat sure does grind my gears x) But maybe I'm just in need of that.
