60 of 165 · most liked firstCombat, combat and more combat, with the same 4 characters against the same 5 or so enemy types. There's no variation as there are barely any enemy types, loadouts, items, locations or mission-types in the game, What you see in the fist hour is exactly what you keep seeing after 8 hours. The maps are all linear corridors, as such there is no exploration and way to smartly position your characters before a fight, not like that would be nessecary however, as the game also happens to be rather…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've now completed 5 missions (3 story missions, 2 side missions). This game is missing something. The idea of exploring the map and taking out various elite forces and the odd (so far) supernatural creature is fun enough in principle. But beyond equipping your characters with mission loot and picking a new skill here and there, there are no real decisions outside of combat. Once you are on the map, out-of-combat characters have to move together. So you can't split up and approach what…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: It's a solid game with decent presentation and unique, satisfying mechanics. It's just a little linear and light on variety. Still worth playing, but some Steam Workshop mods would make this an absolute killer. As you can see, mechanically, this game is firmly based on XCom, and that core is well executed. There's in fact a little more finesse - each unit has Action Points that can be spent in any way, and there is an additional time resource called "Momentum" which can be gained…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed my time with it so far. The maps do feel to be a bit empty and running between fights does get a bit dull but however it is a enjoyable turn based strategy game. Dont expect something like X-Com, it is very different with a lot more linier mission style.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →X-COM, but WWII allied heroes fighting tentacle nazis, what's there to not like about. That's what I thought when I first installed and booted this game but it soon revealed that there's a lot to not like about. This is hardly a full fledged game. The framework is there, but the amount of content you'll see is very little. Characters: The usual crew of four: stereotypical G.I., female scholar-adventurer, red-beret-ed British officer, and an Indian soldier with otherworldy power for extra…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished the story of Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics on normal mode, so I think it's time for a review! Let me start by saying it could have been an amazing game. Instead it's just...an "ok" game. It's not bad but it's also not brilliant. The combat mechanics are nothing new but they are interesting enough (and that is probably what made me kept me playing until the end). The soundtrack is appropriate for this game's theme as well as the sound effects. However, I have a few issues with the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well.... It is boring. You command the same 4 characters over the whole campaign. You can choose almost nothing. Even the weapons for most of them are fix. You can give them items with boring effects like "+5 percent to hit on long range". You fight the same nazi troops. There is very little variety among your enemies and there are only 1,5 cthulhu enemies. You do the same thing in every mission (kill three mobs of nazis) and the missions are almost identical. The only thing you can choose…

Can't bring myself to enjoy this. Love the premise, graphics and voice acting could be better ("They got me... Ugggggghhhh... *Dies...*) I normally love games like this but here cover seems to do nothing, my guys get decimated while I miss every single 77% shot, positioning seems to hold zero…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game when on sale. People in reviews say it's all the same, characters, maps, enemies. That's not true. There are lots of different enemies just looking simular. They have their own abilities and AP costs. Map is the same for all the levels. We play on a part of a HUGE map, so obviously we will sometimes repeat places(~2-4 times a location depending if u've done or not a side mission). Characters will unlock new abilities until u reach level 10 party rank when you can't level up…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →>Recommended at a discount TL;DR: This is a cool game with cover based tactical combat, similar to X-COM, but you have four predetermined characters, each one with their own weapon loadouts and unique skill tree, that you need to use in order to fight lovecraftian nazis. The combat is fun and engaging but the story is somewhat lacking and the game lacks replayability but the moment-to-moment gameplay does enough to make it work. The good As far as the combat system goes you have 2 primary…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately i dont recommend this game, i think its a little overpriced and i never took any damage which takes the challenge out of it. But the mechs of the game are easy and the guides really help out beginners. Game runs smooth and the missions are worthplaying through. upgrades are a nice feature, kinda wish there was more of a supporting cast. there are alot of options when it comes to the battle. here is my gameplay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlkHT7zdNzQ
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't bother. It's intersectional marxist propaganda. The first thing you're greeted with is a tick box fest with all the 'correct' races and colors. Every child knows the vast majority of the French resistance in WW2 consisted of lgbtqiap+*!?- wahmXns of power, butch haircuts and coleur, right? Well, they will after we're done making history less 'problematic' and offensive for 'our modern times'. Or else it's the pick axe, kid... Ya, I know it's a fictional setting. I also know…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've managed to push myself to complete the game. At the start of the game, I was quite interested but a few missions in, I kept feeling a sense of "absence". It was like there was room for things which were not there. For instance, it is always the same 4 characters you play with. It would have been interesting to either recruit more or find them in campaign. Also, you don't get too far into the game before you encounter all the different enemy types. Which was rather disappointing.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basic, repetitive, not really worth it. Neat CGI trailers don't translate to interesting story or gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game freezes then gives a bluescreen crash. THEN a cpu temperature warning. Refunding it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice premise, but too easy. Your characters become way too strong way too early. Plowing through waves of enemies level after same-looking level without taking damage might be enough for children or simple-minded folks, but strategy fans should avoid this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like this game a lot. Love HPL and turn-based. And as you can see I haven't played it much so the review here might be taken with a grain of salt. But that's kind of the point of my review. I'm 2 hours in and I haven't seen anything Cthulhu-ish and I am getting bored of it. Hoping I can push through and re-review after more hours, but with so much other good stuff out there, I'm not sure if I'll get to it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoyed The Call of Cthulhu Wasted Land (as I did) then you will probably also enjoy this. Some people have been likening it to XCom - hmm maybe a tiny bit however I feel it's more along the lines of something like Soldiers at War with the inclusion of the Cthulhu Mythos. The maps can feel empty at times however increasing the amount of enemies would probably swamp things a little. It would be nice to have the ability to create my own characters however I suppose this would have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three missions in, not counting tutorial mission. I enjoyed "Call of Cthulhu The wasted land" and this game is a good improvement over that one so im enjoying this one too. This game is scripted not sandbox , clearly difined mission objectives and lots of combat so far. Small pieces of the story get revealed durring each mission . There is a skill tree system in place with active and passive skills for each squad member and a small variety of weapons and equipment from what ive seen thus far.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: There is a good basis, that should be expanded on. First, I enjoyed this game and had fun playing through it. There obviously went effort and thought into this game and everything is done quite well. (Thus a positive review.) Nonetheless there are things to be improved upon. Voice-acting: I really appreciate the voice acting. Music: Fits the atmosphere very well, but not too memorable for me personally. Sounds: The gun sounds are quite good, but there seems to be just one version for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good for 20 hrs turn-based fun with. Nice artwork and detailed characters. A bit simple and repetitive but enjoyable combat. If there was more interactive stuff and environment it would get a big thumbs up, as it is it still gets a big like as encouragement. Very good effort.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay is short. You can 100% the game within 16 hrs. Recommend playing it on Mythic difficulty if you have played other turn-based strategy games. The game will only get challenging on the last mission. Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a “pure” turn-based tactic game. There are story and side missions (which you don’t have to complete but are required for 100%). Each mission gives you different equipment rewards that you can bring with you to the next mission. Other than inventory…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Way too repetitive. Every mission is basically the same, killing groups of enemys in X-COM Style and interacting with objects. It feels like the game has only 2-3 maps in total. New items received trough side missions barely rewarding. Character stats barely important. "Storytelling" is only voiced briefings. Idea of Nazis + Eldritch entities barely used to its full extent. Good music.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a boring game. i don't think i will play it ever again. boring maps, boring campaign, boring everything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great example of a 6/10 game. It is competent enough but unexceptional and limited in ambition. You control four characters who, in their favor, are reasonably differentiated in their skills. As others have noted, there is only one enemy from the Cthulhu Mythos and the Mythos itself is nearly completely missing from the plot. Maps are reused frequently and you'll know there are enemies when the chest high sandbags and toppled trees become visible. The designers appear not to have understood…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't have more to add than what is already said. I don't have as bad of luck with my hit percentages as others seem to, but I do agree about the sameness. That sameness also makes repeat play less appealing after you finish it and it is shorter, clocking in from beginning to end at around 20-25 hours of game-play. I enjoy it enough to suggest it for what it is (get it on sale) if you're looking for a low-key/low intensity game set within the Cthulhu mythos. Also, when isn't killing Nazi's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Summary: It's like X-Com, only dull. Review: I fell bad about knocking this game, considering I got it because I supported the Kickstarter for it, but I have to be honest. You would *think* that heroic Allied forces fighting Chtulu mutated Nazis would be an exciting premise, and it is, just not in this game. It's a turn based tactical game in the Xcom manner. Move about exploring the map, dropping into combat when you sight an enemy, using cover to keep your people alive and kill your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic case of the devs not understanding what makes a something good, in either in the world of Achtung or X-com. This is a superficial game that will leave you numb, annoyed, or unable to care.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Won't let you switch between keyboard and controller if you have the latter plugged in. I don't want to unplug three different controllers everytime I want to play the game, and I certainly don't want to play a tactical game with a controller. FIX THIS.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abandoned proof of concept. While the games runs oka on most systems the game is far from finished. It certainly lacks balance, an AI and most importantly a good story.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've found this game game because two of the developer of Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land (a game I loved significantly) moved over to work on this game. Sadly unlike that other game, Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a boring and tedious slug to go through. The mechanics are fine enough but are the rest of the game doesn't support them. There are 11 main missions and 10 or so side missions. There are only two locales: forest and bunker with some overlap of the two. The enemies consists of guys…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool setting on paper; occult Nazis and Lovecraft horror should’ve been a slam dunk. The stealth mechanics and momentum system add a few interesting ideas, but the missions start to drag and combat never really feels satisfying enough to carry the game. It’s not terrible, just kind of forgettable once the novelty wears off. Feels like a tactics game that needed another layer of polish and variety.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked Call of Cthulhu Wasted Land's characters and theme a bit more, but this a decent game. Quite pricey for what it is, considering how linear and short it is, but hey if you can grab it on a sale it isn't that bad at all.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like a game that middle management got ahold of to ensure nobody would be happy with it. It's not *bad* so much as *obnoxious.* It feels like someone went in and made a conscious effort to ensure that about half of the battles would be as irritating as possible. And by "irritating" I mean "half a dozen Black Sun Servitors mixed in with some high-HP tanks" over and over and over. Black Sun Servitors are able to run about 1.7 miles from off the map into the midst of your team, and then…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun and well made little game. Turn based strategy, fun skills and individual characters makes the 15 hours or so it takes to complete the game very enjoyable, and whats not to like about Cthulu mythos and nazis. Replayability is low, but the moderate price tag gives you great value, I got it on a sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After seeing there are not many reviews I decided to add one. I am recommending the game mostly since it works, not because it is a masterpiece. This is a simple turn-based squad combat game. Your squad consists of four pre-made soldiers (you cannot create others), who acquire experience during the missions. Given enough points they advance a level and get skillpoints to buy into their skill trees. The trees are all somewhat different and suited to the specialty of the soldier in question. You…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pro's : Nice idea for a setting. Good Action point system and an interesting extra momentum points system. Con's: Linear and similar maps. Can't recuirt people. Can't buy gear (weapons , items or mods). Missions are all samey. Ai is kinda dumb. A more detailed mini review below : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBu0Tl-AoZ0
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →XCOM if there was no progression and every level was the same
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 it needs some work and feels like ive already done 100% of the things you can do in game about an hour more of gameplay offline
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is boring. feels as others have said, a very bland demo that doesnt lead anywhere. Should have let people make custom characters, as what they give is is bland worthless crap you have no investment in beyond "♥♥♥♥, one of the dumb ♥♥♥♥♥ died and now the rest of my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are running around screaming while ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ themselves"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For 0.99€ I can recommend the game, but for anything more I give a Thumb down, and since the regular price is much higher, thumb down. Simple shooter, that pretends that it has some story, but actually there is none. One mission per evening to relax, but if you are looking for a shooter with some story check older Call of Cthulhu The Wasted Land. Now they can only do nice looking game, but somehow a knowledge how to do an interesting story arc was forgotten.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very much like XCOM in controls. The combats are nicely compact and fast. I'm only a few hours in and the story isn't very deep yet. I am hoping for much more mythos to be revealed. It is fun though. If you are looking for a light XCOM like game, get this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent turn-based tactical squad game, it is straight forward and it lacks the depth of XCOM and others of its irk. There is also a sameness of every level.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+We need more Lovecraft games - Atmosphere not dark enough/virttually no horror - Germans don't speak German - Bland music in battle - Seemingly no steam cards for this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice straightforward turn based strategy similar to Mutant Year Zero
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome Awesome game for me :) It is like a more refined version of Silent Storm & Sentinels where the Nazis have advanced tech and must be stopped by your team of elite paranormal soldiers. What bothers me is that I found this game by "accident". I regularly stroll through the steam-store and look for anything remotely like Jagged Allance 2, XCOM 2 or anything turn-based that I can play and I should have found this game a long time ago... For the game specifically, one criticism might…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are still problems with this "final" version. The biggest problem is the rotation of the scene. Rotations are limited to 90 Degrees or none at all. It should have been simple to allow an incremental rotation or even, at the lest, a 45 degree rotation, but keeping the rotation limited to 90 degrees often means searching for a view, ANY view, of the target area. It is difficult, time wasting, and frustrating ... and unprofessional. The loadout limitations on the characters are simply…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cthulhu Tactics may play like X-Com, but maps are laid out much more like a dungeon crawl. Players complete simple, one-step missions (intercept the crate, take out the enemy, investigate the whatever) to progress the story. Most of these missions take place in murky Nazi-infested swamps and in underground bunkers. Some of the missions take place in a dreamlike elder dimension that’s a bit more interesting. While the dungeon-crawl gameplay is somewhat addictive and fairly rewarding, it does…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked this better than XCOM.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A surprisingly interesting little tactics game. The lower budget is definitely felt everywhere, the level layouts are reused 3-4 times each, the enemy variety is pretty low and the campaign is very short (beat it in 8 hours). Despite that, I still enjoyed what I had played and the interactions between abilities felt good to abuse. If this was a more polished and longer game, everything would probably have gotten a balance patch, and while some abilities really deserve it as they destroy the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loving the vibe - setting and atmosphere. I never play games like this but it's fun as heck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a mixed bag. 5/10 the story is well its not well planned out or they made cuts. I am going with the latter. Graphics are nice for its price point. Finished the game today 11/08/2022 on hard. Don't play it on anything less the game becomes too easy. This game should be classified as a starter people learning the ropes. Its not XCOM meets cathulu. Its a chop down version of Mutant Zero meets mini Cathulu. Its still a buy in my books because it was fun. The worst thing about this game is the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good game but i get bored with just missions and nothing much to explore or interact with, maybe theres more later. I didnt see any lovecraftian monsters but you do get some magic type skills..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a solid bases for a game. It's OK. Linear. Works. And has AP instead of 2 moves!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the setting and parts of the execution but I really cannot recommend it. There's not that many missions available and even by mission 4 the enemies become massive bullet sponges with stacking auras from their commanders. You also have little to no tactical flexibility with the preset characters and even their specializations do not make it much more engaging. It's a dungeon crawl meets xcom with massive bullet sponges and no real tactics.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like turn-based strategy and Cthulhu, then this game is for you!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really really wanted to like this game, but its tendency to be slow (With the fog-of-war effect in particular) or crash, its lack of variation with enemies, and very limited options for what to do on missions (too linear; too little interesting loot etc.), it's ultimately a bore. The only Cthulhu monsters faced are Shoggoths, and those are neat at first but then just become as tedious as everything else. Bad implementation of a neat world.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thumbs up because there is no meh rating. In theory, its a neat idea - X-COM meets Call of Cthulhu. Meets Nazis. And initially, that's a lot of fun - there are plenty of the nasty Natsi to gun down, in increasingly wierd occult configurations. That's even better because there were actual occult Nazis, the Thule - although even here the game falls slightly short, as all the Germans speak Nazi Movie Villian. I'm surprised one of them didnt say "ve have vays of makingk you talk" But the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Achtung! — one more Tactics Unfortunately, the word "Cthulhu" in the title is not enough to make this game worth of attention. All that Auroch Digital can offer is a sequence of small maps with some number of combat encounters. Turn based repetitive battles with a limited enemy types is the only way of going through story and side missions. In Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics you'll find nothing but dull combat, dull enemies and dull story. Moving through cells the squad of our heroes goes from one…
