60 of 190 · most liked firstWarning: this is not a deckbuilder or card battler, it's a glorified puzzle game with a story. The game is too easy on normal and tidious on hard. In the begining you can't upgrade your cards or do anything except fight to get some extra cards Deckbuilding is mostly based on who you fight so you would optimise your deck every fight. The anoying part is that the AI opponent always cheats by starting with some advantages, sometimes their cards even have extra stats. They usually have cards you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was expecting a mixture of deck-building and tactical turn-based combat. What I got instead was a puzzle game. I hate puzzles. Edit - Response to dev: I'm sorry you don't like negative reviews. But perhaps you wouldn't get them if you marketed the game more appropriately. The word "puzzle" is indeed used a single time in the entire description on the store page. But Steam isn't the only place you're advertising, right? On Reddit your developers are downplaying the puzzle aspect of the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If banner saga is your cup of tea today is your lucky day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only positive is I got it on a deep sale. This looks like a deck building game but it is far from it. This is a puzzle game with ridiculous rng. You WILL play the exact cards the devs want you to play on exactly the turn you are supposed to play them. What's that? You only have about a 3% chance to get the card you need? Too bad, try again 47 times until rng gives you what you must have when we say you should have it. The game is 5% skill and 95% rng and I wish I was exaggerating. Each…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →wish list in the prologue, but the final game especially the champion design is so disappointing. the champion have 3 stages: every stage have extremely strong skills, like kill all your troops, and you have only 20 rounds to kill the champion. but your card is limited, you had to decide which card to play or not carefully, one mistake can get a easy fail. u have to change your deck again and again to beat every map, u don't know what skill they can have. this game not have any fun of DBG or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Less of a card game, more of a puzzle game. TL:DR The gameplay is more about figuring out what you need than to build a strong deck and run with it. Gameplay is engaging and rewarding. The plot is pretty good if you can get around the main character's, Finn's, voice. First, the plot. You, Finn, and your crew of three others travel into enemy territory to participate in the war games tournies, hoping to find a way to remove army leaders. The whole time throughout the game, you get to listen…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda frustrating beating battles but still counting as a loss because you didn't meet specific requirements. I get that it's just how the game is intended, but I don't enjoy it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright, the game is okay for people who for some reason like puzzle card battlers. For any other player you'd better stay away. Gameplay is boring and too repetetive. I really want to know the story beacause it seems intresting, also a fan of Redemption game, but here we are with a puzzle card battler, the game pushes you to play this weird puzzles to advance. To be honest the gameplay is bad, boring, unbalanced, I'm not intrested in playing place'n'wait, the main game mechanics are trash, it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it when it was on sale, it's not worth at full price. The previous game was a masterpiece. This one instead is a silly game they did only to reutilise the assets.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An overall solid game. Challenging gameplay and great art style are the highlights, and truly shine throughout. The writing could be better in some parts, but the story is good and the voice acting does the job well. Worth picking up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is good to very good. It could even be excellent, but I haven't played a whole lot yet, and I've heard that later missions get really, really difficult. We'll see. I just wanted to post a quick positive review to help the developers out. They are a good bunch of folks, and have made a really special and enjoyable game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pirated this game and finished it on hard, yet couldn't help but come back and add this gem to library. The fact that you have to study the unique rules of each level and come up with a good enough deck to "counter" it is just amazing. A must play for any gamer who loves experimenting with all sorts of builds.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started out as fun, then just got frustrating as hell. Just about to kill there commander then suddenly all your warriors die and their health goes back to full, not to worry I will kill him again. One strike away from winning, but sorry you took to long and all your warriors are Killed and game over. If you enjoy beating your head against a wall and losing over and over again, then this is the one for you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's difficult to provide a definitive opinion on this game, as its proposition is indeed quite unique: partly (fairly light) tactical relying on a grid-based combat zone and units with specific skills, partly narrative experience, partly deck builder, partly puzzle game... It's actually these last two points that tend to pull me out of the experience. Given that (almost) each game offers different rules and victory conditions, you are strongly encouraged to regularly modify your deck... and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun card based strategy/puzzle game with non linearity that isn't really needed for a game like this, nor the focus, is a welcome addition nonetheless, due to the story often giving you incentives to fight optional battles that will result in narrative benefits, as well as mechanical. Definitely a worthy use of time, with fun dialogue, well done art, and solid voice acting overall, outside of small issues I had with the main character's emotional heights not being reached verbally. If…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8/10. This is a puzzle game more than anything. The idea behind the game is neat but it is short, gated and small in content. If this game had 30-50% more to offer then it would be amazing. The story and RPG elements hinders this game in a devastating way. If it had stuck to the basics and a true linear storyline, I would have enjoyed it more. It tries to be the best of both worlds but fails on at least one. -Art style: The best thing about this game. The animations and the oldschool…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very mediocre, but worth picking up on steep sale if you like puzzle battlers. Main issue: it looks like a deck-building game but it isn't really. While there are four sets of decks to pull from, you're heavily incentivized not to mix and match. On top of that, the number of options within each deck is quite limited (I count 11 unique unit cards in the completed starter deck and you only have 10 units total at a time in your deck) and many cards are explicitly much stronger than…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The poison mechanics are broken enough to make me quit the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Scratched an itch Banner Saga left on my heart so long ago, story and art-style are amazing. Got super invested in the story and I'm wanting to play the other ash of gods game now, hoping for some kind of story continuation to this one. I have a few gripes with the game though nothing that ruined the experience and most of them were inflicted by personal complacence(failing a secondary objective because I forgot to read it - It happened, alot.) Pretty lacksadaisy review but I really enjoyed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kept opening my browser to Discord. If I wanted to do that I would have done that, I don't need some bloody game starting my browser and taking me to Discord without my permission.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm really disappointed with this game. Ash of Gods: Redemption was great and unique. Story was interesting and game had a high replay value. None of this can be said about Ash of Gods: The Way. Story was rather predictable, except for the great plot twist at the end, which was highly dubious and improbable on the other hand. Gameplay is sadly very repeatable and not interesting. Beginning was pretty fun, but game lacks depth and as a deckbuilding is mediocre at best. It fails as a tactical…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a refreshing turn based strategy with cards, role playing and really nice graphics. The strategy is at a high level, tactical decisions will be required at every turn and on later stages you need to anticipate with 2-3 turns in advance what is going to happen if you want to win. The variety of conditions to win is remarkable and the battles where the rules change on the go can be quite challenging, making the reward even sweeter. It has even a nice repeatability twist to it using the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First I want to say huge thank you to the devs for giving me this game as a gift ❤️ I probably wouldn't buy it in the nearest future, and I had no idea that I'm missing a lot. Because I was thinking - it's like just a game about playing cards and gathering your deck - what can be interesting about this? Surprisingly, this game has a very interesting story. Which I didn't expect from a card game at all, in the first place. I think the story is the strongest part of this game. Also the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From the screenshots this may appear like a Banner Saga clone, but the gameplay style is almost entirely different. For example, characters must move in a straight line at the end of every turn, in between turns however you can reposition left or right (but not forwards or backwards). Every turn you get to play cards, either power ups or soldiers. Most battles are different, usually the enemy has some unique advantage that you must overcome which makes this game kind of a puzzle.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I knew it was focused more on being more of a deckbuilder, but I didnt expect a slightly shinier flash game where the entire gameplay loop is winning one of 3 lines by throwing cards at it over and over. Refunded. Even on a 40% sale it's not worth the money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would absolutely recommend. Negative reviews on this game come strictly from branding because it follows a different system (not an RPG) as its predecessor (a conventional RPG) In my opinion as someone who like puzzle games, rpgs, and card games. This game scratches that itch well. It's one of my favorite systems. My only complaint is just that there's not enough! Also the main quest-line is fun but if there was some kind of conquest mode or rogue-like elements to enhance replayability it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game with some easily overlooked issues. The final area of the game was very short and underwhelming and the story ending was a bit silly. I won the few fights on last area with first try. Very bad compared to the third area of the game which was perfect with difficulty and made me lose on many attempts. Overall I enjoyed it a lot, quite a nice fresh take on card based combat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The developers of Ash of Gods: The Way really want to praise. Letting go of the idea of outshine The Banner Saga, they came up with something of their own and focused on the gameplay, which became an unusual mixture of CCG, puzzle and auto-battler.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun Concept & Well Executed, But Extremely Challenging! Well executed deckbuilding elements combined with turn based tactics on top of a great soundtrack, artwork, and story. https://youtu.be/2Ze_HYvzcwY TLDR in case you don't want to watch the video: 1. There are some similarities in its deckbuilder elements with Gwent, and its autobattler mechanics mirror more popular titles like Symphony Of War, but Ash Of Gods takes some of the best parts of those and blends them into a fun gameplay…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game was fine until you have to start replaying the same combats on a higher difficulty. Then it totally breaks down, stops being competitive and becomes an annoying slog.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished the game on normal difficulty which proved a fine challenge to me. Not every battle was won first try but every battle was possible in the given time. As a battle starts cards are drawn from the prepared deck which has around 2x10 cards for fighters and accessories. The fights are kept fresh by the introduction of several new decks to fight and use, and special rules for every encounter. Didn't feel like I have been playing 20h. Had to restart several battles cause of bad rng…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good strategic gameplay. Enjoyable challenge from start to finish.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoyed Ash of Gods: Redemption (which I loved) and are looking for something similar, don't buy this game. It is nothing like it and instead is this company's attempt at a Gwent-like game. The game itself is okay, but they make some perplexing choices when it comes to player freedom. It's a card game/RTS where they give you limited attempts and no chance to practice with a variety of opponents. It can be fun, but is way too limited. 4/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is in its core a card/deck building puzzle game, with every stage/fight presenting different challenges and rules. On top of that, you have the storytelling and choice making that can alter how the game unfolds. It has some pretty art and very good Voice Acting overall while gameplay, although repetivive in a sense that you play a sucession of battles to progress the story, it doesnt feel boring because each fight requires a different approach and planning. It reminds me of Thronebreaker,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is straight ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completely unbalanced, enemy AI is over tuned from the start; your first or second qualifying match has you pitted against enemies that one shot your cards and swarm the field with opponents. Hard is hard, cheese is not hard. The game is cheesy. I'm not save scumming a card tactics rpg game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting game. If you loved the story of the first one, you will love this one too. Combat is very different but very enjoyable. Give it a try
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good hard puzzles! Has me engaged in a way most games haven't recently
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good round based strategy game with some really frustrating elements. Pros: The different combats are ACTUALLY different and you have to regularly adjust your deck/faction to win. There is not just killing the enemy commander, sometimes it is like capture the point, a duel between characters, holding out ... The combat itself feels mostly good and strategic. The different factions play completely different and are fun. All units feel useful and you still have some extra strong elite units for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game! Basically just has a campaign, but there are lots of battles, each with different rules and goals to keep it fresh. Good for about 25 hours of gameplay. Not much replayability. There is a story but I wouldn't want to do everything again. You basically get to experience everything on your first playthrough. It's lots of fun designing the deck, and playing it tactically against the AI. There are some frustrating mechanics, like the fact that you can't move your troops backwards, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Hard" is hard.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short Version: I feel this game is in my "hidden gem" category. If you come from the first game, besides the art style and the story, nothing is similar to the prequel (That's for the best in my opinion). It's a really fun deckbuilding/puzzle game with some strategy elements sprinkled on. Decent story and characters, the gameplay is the strongest feature here. Definitely gets my recommendation and its really worth your attention to buy and support it if you are into this niche genre. Long…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A stunning game that draws you in and doesn't let go from the very first minute. It has an engaging storyline, beautiful music, and graphics. I hope the developers continue to support and develop this game; it has great potential. UPD: After 23 hours, I finished the game and can share my opinion afterward: The game is engaging, but the ending is too rushed. Maybe this was my ending (becoming Prince of Friza), but I would have liked more final content; the last tournament is short, especially…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such catching gameplay. Simple strategy game at the surface but it continuously evolves, introducing new elements in every fight from start to finish. While it begins slowly, the pace quickly escalates as you acquire more units and spells. The story is nice but the writing at the beginning was just so bad I switched game to Spanish. But the characters eventually grew on me as the narrative progressed, and I began to appreciate it. It really helps that what you say and do has consequences.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a solid, fun game. The gameplay is unique, and does a really good job of keeping aspects of each of the major factions relevant throughout the game. You get stronger and gain more options, but you still don't lose a footing in strategies that worked before, which is a tough balance to strike. One of the major factions, the last one in the main game, is clearly weaker than the others - on hard mode at least - but even they provide a few useful options. The story integrates with the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All the makings of a "fine" game except... this isn't made for gamers. It's made for small children. This game HOLDS YOUR HAND for hours and refuses to let go! If you hate tutorials or being told what to do or how to play every few seconds... don't bother with this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun, well paced, well designed, card battler with beautiful animations, mood and story. Great to kick back and relax with - do it at your own pace, with just enough progression and challenge to keep you coming back for me. No woke poison either. Just a good game. Great job Devs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ash of Gods is a great fantasy world - the card x RPG element is a good combination and the different culture themed cards are interesting - would recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's loosely connected to the story of the previous game (meaning, you'll find some similar characters but that's about it), the gameplay is quite good though, an interesting deck builder puzzle game with some difficulty spikes that keep you at the edge of your seat (until you unlock a certain deck at least). The story and challenge are both good. You're up for a good time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a boring game where all actions are repeated and it's not interesting to play. I even stopped playing it because it was so dull.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a card game. Every time you have to adapt your deck and upgrade the cards again and again just to be able to win some unfair battles. In a tournament fight you lose in the second round without having any real options to counter it. The final battle also has too many phases. I don't bother repeating them all just because you lost in the latter stages. I don't know what happens if you lose all attempts in a fight, but this feature is absolute crap. Uninstalling
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game and worth the price If another came out I would buy it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ash of the Gods: Redemption was a wonderful and compelling srpg marred by a poor translation. Despite that, it's an experience I've enjoyed a few times with a world I wanted to see more of. Ash of the Gods: The Way delivers on this. It's a far more focused story filled with wonderful characters and a superb translation. The game is Half Visual Novel, and half of a strategy puzzler with deck building elements. It is unlike anything in the genre I have experienced from a game play perspective and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game! It wasn't exactly what I expected and plays more like a puzzle game but with a good amount of freedom to solve problems your own way. It forced me to really think about building the best decks to handle different challenges and for the most part everything always seemed viable. I look forward to seeing what they can do next with the main series but would also love to see more updates to this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't realize that I spent 25 hours in card\puzzle game. Some battles were tidous but I played like an addicted! The game is truly replete with different rules and tactics. I was glad to return to Ash Of Gods world and I found this story is interesting and intrigue. A few things to quibble about: -Despite an interesting twist, the ending feels crumpled and not fully revealed. -it's good opportunity to has at least one backup manual save. Otherwise you may ruin story line (I did it once).…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In short, yes I recommend this game if: 1. You enjoy strategic turn-based tactical RPGs with an emphasis on clever tactics that punish mistakes 2. You enjoy beautiful hand drawn graphics that compliment the plot and characters 3. You're tired of P2W Mobile-style tactical RPGs that are really for the whales rather than the tactical aficionado TLDR: Quality passion project based on turn-based tactical RPG with an emphasis on Puzzle solving, deck-building, & character skill-tree paradigm.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great deck builder. Creativity shines throughout most of the game. There are a few battles where you have to refine your deck to win but they are few and far between. The narration and voice acting are top notch. A true winner for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not a card battler, it is a puzzle game. You are going into each battle basically blind to what the rule set is going to be. Event that weren't communicated just happens and now you have to restart the encounter with that in mind. None of the mechanics are bad, on the contrary they are fairly deep and interesting but not what advertised. Remind me of advance wars game were if you would have to replay the same map 10 times because you now know how the enemy is going to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun tactical game. I love the art style and unique story of this game, even if the voice acting and writing isnt top notch, its still decent enough to get immersed. I am an experienced player with these types of games and find it the right amount of challenge, but i can see what others say that it can be unforgiving for inexperienced players.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Intense and emotionally captivating game with a unique story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The art style and soundtrack are top-notch, and the game mechanics are challenging yet rewarding. Highly recommended.
