If it's ever on sale, you should pick it up. Check out my full review here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knV2EzpVEss
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Note: this review is based on the GOG version, and is shortened; go there for the full review.* Unique and Fun: 4/5 Aquanox 2 is a strict improvement on the first game, reducing or eliminating most of the irritations of its predecessor, as well as offering more overall polish. VISUALS: I thought Aquanox 1 had aged well, thanks in great part to good use of textures; Aquanox 2 is a definite visual upgrade, with everything using more polygons, crisp textures, nicer lighting, and much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very underrated. The story, characters and dialogues are clearly adult-themed and dark. Like Aquanox 1 it shows well the madness of a post apocalyptic underwater society.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Back when it came out, this game’s art cover was the first one to ever make me want to hump my monitor. There have been many more since. The AquaNox games have probably some of the best world building in gaming history. This game could have been a classic with a little more work. I had to play this game twice to the end the first time I played it, just because of how much I loved the story. The gameplay is ok, what really elevates this game is it's setting and worldbuilding. Such a perfect…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played it a huge amount of time back in the day when it came out and now finally got it on steam. The setting is dark, unique and twisted, the visuals aged quite well and the gameplay still is great. Up to 4 Ships are fully customizable and differ your approach and outcome of each mission individually. The missions vary from escorts over large-scale pirate-battles to stealthmissions, there also are some bonus-goals and free-roam after most missions. if you like non(or less) generic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite games. Epic story, memorable characters and atmospheric music. Much better than the first part. The unique game about submarines. The more I go through it - the shorter it seems to me. I hope sooner or later it will have a sequel. Or will something similar. А еще там был чудесный дубляж на русском языке, очень сочетающийся с персонажами и сюжетом. =)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same graphics, same guns, same submarines. But in this sequel is everything even bigger. Sadly it's doing this game boring. Story is so predictable and so unnecessarily long. Full of strange characters with one main who successfully supplementing all stupid conversations. At least there are still some good fights. 61/100
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game but I just can't. It's the kind of game you'd like to replay more often than you do, but then you remember all the bad parts you have to sit through on the way. The gameplay is fun if you're doing what you would expect to be doing in this kind of game, namely fighting bad guys. Sadly, that happens maybe 25% of the time at best. Many missions in this game have you sloooowly make your way towards your destination or wait for enemies/alles to appear, followed by…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Russian and English
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning: Broken Game! This game has design/implementation defects that will render this unplayable for many gamers. The game does not launch at all under Windows 10/11 due to a display issue. AquaNox 2: Revelation is an ancient game from 2003. It's a whopping 21 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game! Great story, never boring! Worth 5 euros! I'm hoping for Aquanox 3 to be announced this E3 (since there already is one screenshot of the game released by nordic games) EDIT 04.10.2014 - Correction Aquanox Deep Descent confirmed to be released late 2015. It is supposed to be reboot of the series. Gameplay can be found on youtube (guy talks in german). After watching the video I can say it's going to be more of an Archimedean Dynasty reboot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →when it came out back on 2003 I loved it. 11 years later just buyed it now on steam and its still such an amazing game. The graphics on FullHD now are obv not the best anymore but considered that this game is 11 years old it still looks quite good. Especially the water. Totally worth playing it nowadays.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like Descent 2 in the water! :P
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is an FPS shooter with a submarine setting. I played the first AquaNox years ago and enjoyed it immensely. However, this sequel is worse in every way: - The environment looks duller - The new "sniping" mechanic does not fit into a game where the submarine responds to your mouse with a lag - You are constantly under-powered compared to your enemies - A total of 3 voice actors, including the protagonist And to top it off, extra lag with modern mice makes it completely unplayable. You…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Award for worst voice acting ever? Probably. Fun underwater space-esque battles? Yes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh dear gods, this game is bad! If Aquanox didn't piss you off with the terrible control, high difficulty and terrible combat controls, congrats! that’s improved...a little. What you get in exchange for that small improvement is a terrible story on a level which is hard to convey, including being stuck with a pirate crew who talks in nothing but innuendo and vague side stepping. You play a protagonist so stupid and naive that he is attacked by one of his own crew because he would not have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty Amazing So I BOOT this thing up on my win10 64bit Pro system...and what happens? IT WORKS FLAWLESS IN 4K. Like talk about being ahead of it's time, even with patches that IS SUPERBLY RARE to see that kind of programming. I am super looking forwards to see if 1 gives me anything like that. Really, anything in 4K from anywhere NEAR that age (almost 20 years) looks so tiny usually it's unplayable, THIS AN2 is flawless on 4k right out of the box. Just thought I would chime in about how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun little submarine come Freelancer knockoff. Same menu system to interact with characters, basically a point and click adventure with freelancer type underwater missions. Not a bad addition to my collection. But when all is said and done, we take none of it with us, or do we take it ALL by having experienced. If that's the case (Which I believe it is..) then experience EVERY game at least once. They can ALL have bits that make you go WOW, and bits that make you cringe. But it's the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting setting, good story with more than decent voice acting and fun gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a borderline thumbs up for me. Aquanox 2 is a weird contrast of very strong aethetics & ahead-of-its time storytelling against frustratingly clunky gameplay. I love the niche "cybergrunge" art style the devs have done a great job of keeping consistent throughout every element of the game - even the settings menus are beautifully illustrated and animated - the visual design of this game is 9/10. The storytelling sections in between missions is also great - it has a novel semi-open…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game! I love it! Old but great! 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphics are surprisingly good considering the game's age. A well made 6DOF shooter. Interesting from start to end. Story is good too. The ship's physics is like other non-underwater 6DOF and space shooters. Though it would me more accurate to say that physics in most space shooters have underwater physics...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dumb story, terrible missions, unpleasant controls, quite bad audiovisuals, and average combat. Don't bother.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yo listen up, here's the story About a little guy that lives in a brown world And all day and all night And everything he sees is just brown Like him, inside and outside Brown his house with a brown little window And a brown Corvette And everything is brown for him And himself and everybody around 'Cause he ain't got nobody to listen (to listen, to listen, to listen) ---- If you're not familiar with this from all those years ago and looking to scratch a nostalgia itch, I'd give this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played it years ago. And now bought it on Steam because i lost my CD :/ You should chek it out otherwise you really miss something. The Story is amazing and you will find yourself thrown into an Apocalyptic underwater Era where you have to help others and yourself to gain Progress and upgrade your ship. It will become pretty challenging after a while and i never got bored. Its Currently in Sale, i bought it without. I would do it again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Due to terrible controls this game is preacticaly unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ni hao xiao long
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Janky even for its time, this it neither looks nor plays well enough to enjoy it. Story is bare bones with cringy dialogues and characters with personalities of a cardboard cutouts. Even with its low price, I can't recommend it unless heavily discounted. And even then, only worth buying for nostalgic reasons.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine, there are people saying this game is better written than Aquanox: Deep Descent... you know, the game that starts with your character being fooled by some pirates, that steal your family's ship and your character being like "Yeah, whatever - take my ship, I guess I am part of your crew"... it is literally one of the worst written games, I've ever played... and I've played and speedran many bad games. And then it crashed on finishing one of the missions each time I tried to finish it.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like that this game seems like something new or at least unusual for what pople are playing lately. Unfortunately this game is so horrifically unpolished that its hard to play at times. Objectives are totally unclear, escort missions ocassionally impossible and require setting the difficulty and auto aim to easiest levels (as someone who plays games on hard the game is flawed, not difficult) and the graphics are not just old, they're in the way of what might be fun. I got as far as navigating…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is a nice game for its time. not something i can take the time to compleat but would make a nice time spender. now if ony there was a way to make it into windowed mode. then it would be worth my time. but if your into underwater activitys well i guess this is it for you. i give this game a 6/10 has some nice controls mecanics are not hard to run. aiming can be a slight bit sloppy though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game, love it <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First game was better imho. Anyway, it is worth a try
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →still ace combat but underwater (yet again) but story is hideo kojima style especially the ending.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slog alert! Slot alert! Aquanox 2 feasts tonight on the time & patience of gamers bold enough to brave its depths! Much like its predecessor, the gameplay is really fun! It unfortunately also doubled-down on all its weaknesses: Terrible and unconvincing voice acting, long stretches of missions with your only objective being to wait around, combined with no checkpoints during missions, some incredibly unclear objectives, and a story that baffles the mind and challenges the player to follow its…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tl;dr - Lot's of boring sections holding a button, followed by short boring sections where you might die. Find a copy of Archimedean Dynasty instead. I really wanted to like this game, I bought it because I have very fond memories of playing archimedean dynasty back in the 90s. Unfortunately this game just really isn't any good. The controls are irritating, the missions include huge chunks of sailing slowly through the sea before the mission actually starts, and if you lose you have to go…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphics improved from the previous game, but the world looks kinda empty and dead in this one. The menu also has been made a lot more complex, but that only means more clicking around for the boring dialogues. Gameplay wise it's mostly the same, but most weapons are now dual mounted. The story seems just as boring, so I stopped paying attention. What made me stop playing are the terrible missions. Every mission has some sort of stealth or escort objective and they are so easy to fail. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story is poorly written Characters are 1 dimensional Gameplay is slow, uneventful and tedious Map terrain is very sparse, the lack of budget really shows
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An "old-school" first person style shooting game set in a somewhat futuristic world of large portions of society living in cities underwater. It's set in 2666 but somehow we are still using gunpwder weapons and non-guided torpedoes, and we don't have any sonar to detect enemy ships? Being an older game, the presentation is a lot different than modern games in that it doesn't really hold you hand and explain everything. Steam says a release date of 2003, but my research says Nov 30, 2001. < ??…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I first played it when i was 14. this game was one of my fav. Now as the gaming industry just grown awesome this game dosen't keep me playing again and agin. But for a game in 2004, Thq really did a nice job with this one and i am hoping the "DEEP DESCENT" to be an amazing underwater game like this one in 2004
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1. What is Aquanox 2? Aquanox 2 is the sequel to the sci-fi-underwater shooter Aquanox 1. 2. Do I have to play the first game before I start with Aquanox 2? No, because Aquanox 2 has its own storyline and you will play as a new main character. You will meet some characters from the first game, but you won´t miss much if you didn ´t play the first game. 3. Is it worth buying? If you liked the first game or games like X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter or Wing Commander, you should give this one a try. 4.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horrible and annoying! And I still play Freelancer which is also old piloting game. So basically Freelancer = 10; AquaNox 2 = 0.. And it's not letter O. It's bloody ZERO. Wasted money
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really badly designed, and yeah i know its an old game but come on: -no instruction on what you are supposed to do outside missions -the story what the hell makes no sense and is ilogical, a guy gets his ship taken and is sompletly fine about it wtf -the chracter interaction is so linear and dull, with some of the most lifeless individuals you can imagine especially the main character Alough some positives i managed to gain from it: -if you love comba then this is for you the sombat system and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than the first
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely a gem from another era. Beautiful, yet dated in every way. Worth playing for the story and meeting the characters. Plays well enough, but needs to be adapted to the controls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game in a way screams nostalgia to me now, and at the time it came out it was really good (and probably still is). I was hooked on a story, it didnt seem impsossible, although some missions proved to be a nuisance (like breaking out of/into the prison iirc) - overall it was rewarding and very enjoyable game. I recall myself wanting to relive the experience and for sure beat the game more than once so far. Story, character progress (upgrades you get / buy) and gameplay are all solid.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're here you probably already know the game and plan on buying it so this is for you: Unfortunately it crashes a lot on modern systems so I can't recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You are hoovering above the ocean floor, you are armed with some heavy artillery, the music is rockin', you're gonna have a blast. The game has some cheesy voice acting, but overall it is strifing for a darker tone. The story is not particularly gripping, but the missions are pretty cool. I skipped on the first Aquanox since the story stands on its own and the game is just better overall. I had to do some tweaking on the controls, but once set it all works like a charm. Its an action game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Global warming is bad.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →you can die easy in this game but the story good and so is the gameplay, 8/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little better graphics than its predecessor but even shorter missions and more awkward combat system. Again you'll spend your time waiting for a mission to load or reading the lengthy explanations. AquaNox 2 sets a new high water in graphics. single player campaign just isn't all that long. There are not many ships too choose from. However you get plenty of weapons.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the game long time ago. All i can say is that the storry is great and the combat/misions are good. Play it for the storry line, it worths it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're looking for something different in a world dominated by shooters and MMORPGs, the Aquanox series is a good choice. Set in the depths of the ocean, in a post-apocalyptic world where mankind was forced to give up the light of the sun and the dryness of the land, Aquanox 2: Revelation has you playing as William Drake, a young freighter pilot who is sucked into an adventure that he only dreamt of as a kid. THE GOOD: The game is pretty unique, and it allows you to play using either FPS…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought on basis of good reviews however none of them said how slow and boring the combat was. Gave up after the third mission. Probably unfair to review it? But I am. Basically the story seesm ok, graphics are nice but old, but thats not the biggest issue. The biggest turn off was the combat. Its really reall dull and boring. And thats it really, I can't recommend it, didn't grab me, didn't make me want to do another mission.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting concept. I have been thinking why there aren't more undersea games for a long time. This game is just too difficult. Too much reliance in twitchy pointlessness and too many enemies with too little ship. It wasn't even worth the $1.00 I paid for it. There is a cheat for this impossible game, but it too proved t be too difficult to figure out as well which seems appropriate somehow...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aquanox 2 is one of the many unknown gems in video game history. A solid story, with more then a few twists and a huge array of weapons, ships and characters that all combined create a deep and rich world that'll catch you at first glance. I'm still waiting for a worthy successor,.... ah well,... scrap it. I'll play it again!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Leider misslungener Nachfolger... Missionen sind so öde das man einschläft^^
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sweet sequel to AquaNox and Archymedian Dynasty. Abuses video cards for breakfast, poor voiceover countered by sweet everything.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game transcends time with its absolutely on-spot storytelling and dialogue, solid gameplay, great progression and mostly interesting mission design. For a game with a more or less linear mission structure, there is a lot to discover and by the end of it you'll feel like you arrived after a long journey. Played this in 2007 and again on steam thirteen years later and was blown away by how well it stood the test of time. Your mileage may vary based on which language you play this in. It's…
