In early February 2020, Daedalic released a statement saying development would be on hold indefinitely, despite the game being fundamentally unfinished. I'll keep my actual review short: This game had real potential to eventually become something of a mid-budget Warcraft 3. However, it was released in a state that made it not worth buying JUST YET; which probably…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is abandoned in a completely unfinished state. The game launched with heaps of potential but a deluge of issues, from broken pathfinding to single digit performance in the late game despite being at best comparable to Warcraft 3 or Dawn of War 1 technically. The Devs acknowledged these issues day 1 and promised these issues had already been fixed or were in the process of being fixed. The patch never came. The Devs went completely silent over the launch window, killing whatever little…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game needs to be taken down from steam. it was abandoned by the devs right after launch and is not really playable in this state, mostly because of the poor pathfinding of your units. they block each other constantly and get stuck cuz their hit boxes are 4 times bigger than they are. it's a shame this game got abandoned cuz it has lots of potential and can be really fun in coop, if you don't need to babysit your units.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel extremely betrayed by them not finishing it... I do now understand why they didn't finish it. I know why there were low number nubers of players, but guess why. it's not because the game was unwanted, oh no no no... a new rts like this was extremely wanted, but it simply wasn't finished, so 98% of people who wanted to buy it said nah mate, I'll wait untill it's finished. sadly they game up, thus the game was never finished and my money was taken and 98% are missing an rts they wanted...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The devs gave up. Don't waste your time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked this game, but developers abandoned it. its really sad. there is no point to buy it, pathfinding suck and no fix coming. I dont get why this is in store anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WARNING: ABANDONED GAME This game had potential and an interesting story but was abandoned in favor of a poor attempt at an mmo
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would recommend this game if you can grab it for $5 as I did, it was a nice time sink and its pretty fun as is. A couple things I would note before buying; Pros: Love the approach on the art style. Good Soundtrack Good Campaign Story, what's there of it. Likeable "Hero Characters" Fun Gameplay, enough for me to finish the Campaign on Hard. Charming in a rough around the edges and cracked through the center kind of way Cons: AI has absolutely terrible pathfinding as is, utterly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks good, plays terribly. Pathing is everything and it is broken. No fix in sight. What we got is a bold statement from the devs straight up abondoning this game, even tho they promised "3 cool hero skins in the near future" ayy. Play Starcraft 2 it's free :)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Year of Rain A new, unique RTS that had potential, but due to lack of publisher faith, was crippled at launch and abandoned soon after So... This game is pretty good. It's pretty much like a Warcraft 3 spiritual successor. Better than WC3 Reforged in a lot of ways. As much as I want to love this game however I can't pretend I'm not disappointed. The game was released unfinished, and abandoned very quickly. I don't think Daedalic had any faith in it, they released it before it was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning! This game is dead on arrival. A Year Of Rain was once a promising title. As of now, it is still in early access and will not come out of it in one solid piece - as stated by the devs in the news feed, AYOR is already in "glorious" maintenance mode. If you still want to try this game out, here is what you need to be aware of. Atrocious pathfinding and lots of other bugs make this game very annoying to play even in single player campaign, leaving you with the feeling that this project…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The good: Being a warcraft 3 clone isn't necessarily bad. Although the similarities are just too many, you can ignore them and enjoy the graphics and the good attempt at creating the heroes and the abilities as well as the good voice acting. The price is also alright. The bad: Balancing is an issue. You will lose battles on casual difficulty and there is no save game. You could call it a progressive idea for a RTS if it wasn't for the pathfinding. The ugly: Pathfidning is a disaster. It is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get this game. The DEVs have switched to Maintenance (aka Abandoned) mode for this game. There is nothing for you to see, and there are some serious glaring issues, including a camera that can't zoom out (almost any other RTS game allows you to zoom out significantly to see your entire base easily). Its a shame because the styling and interesting parts of the game make this game a little different than some other RTS games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a big RTS fan, and this game is great, I don't understand all the hate. It's simple and fun, and at this sale price it's worth a buy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The good: The game tries to mimic positvie aspects of Warcraft 3. The BAD: The game has a very unrefined gameplay, which can be expected from an early access title. THE UGLY: The game does not only mimic WC3, but in a cruel, ironic way, it also mimics the trainwreck situation which is WC3 Reforged. After 3 months of Early Acces the DEVELOPMENT has OFFICIALLY CEASED. Deadalics official statement implies that they ran out of money, because the game was not a smash hit. I can accept that early…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like Warcraft 3 but with cool additional features like only one hero, no items, and the worst pathfinding I've ever seen in an RTS.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool concept, but the game is basically unplayable because of bugs and terrible pathfinding. Game is also in maintenance mode, so nothing will ever be fixed
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worst case of early access I've seen so far. Stopped developement right after release because of to few sales. To do that to the people that supported your project is not acceptable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really want to like this game and recommend it in the future, but how do you release an RTS game or campaign without save/load? That's an essential feature for RTSs. I was liking the campaign up until it put me in a tough spot where it expects ideal microing and there's no way to save/load to try out better approaches. I don't like wasting 10+ minutes/try for no reason. Not planning on playing this game further until it's added.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted it to be good. RTS like Warcraft 3 are one of my favorite games (will there ever be Armies of Exigo on Steam?) and I hoped for Year of Rain to be a real treat. Well, campaign is really frustrating because there is no save option. We are in year 2020 but Year of Rain has no save option, not even checkpoints or quicksave, you have to play whole mission from beginning if you F up. The story seem competent at first but while playing you get the feeling there is something missing,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They took the money and ran. Bloody scam!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never buy this game no matter how much of a discount it gets. The developer launched it with major technical issues, committed to fixing them then abandoned the game due to poor initial sales. It will never be finished and they shouldn't even be allowed to continue selling it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's broken and the devs cashed out and stopped updating. Steer clear
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought the game - now discontinued. Have fun with the money, you're not getting another cent from me. (Bought A LOT of daedalic games before)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dev just abandoned the game following multiple commercial mistakes they made and left us with an unfinished product without refund available .
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It had potential but this Game is abandoned in a completely unfinished state. Avoid it at all cost.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horrible AI path finding. Abandoned by developers. Could have been a good game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game. I bought it with a 90% discount and I really hoped that all those comments were exaggerating. But no, AI is utter garbage. It's even worse than that. The whole core game logic is bad. Examples : - I select my archers to shoot at enemy tower and... First 2 archers stopped and started shooting, while the other 10 were having a seizure. A couple of archers even decided to walk through enemy melee fighters to try to reach the tower... *facepalm* - I select units and a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to love this game, but it has been abandoned with a few significant issues. Aesthetically it reminds me a lot of Warcraft 3. Gameplay wise, it's the dumpster fire behind your local Denny's. It's baffling that reviews are still mixed. If you're looking for a full game, this is not the right game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is still been sold even if it has been abandoned and it doesn't even start. Looks like a scam.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Next time you attempt to make a carbon copy of a game, make sure you focus on the actual gameplay instead of pushing your agenda and making sure it has enough artificial diversity in it. We have black paladin with a polearm and crossed eyes (it's painful to look at her), asian looking non-asian female individual, a demon chick from who knows where, one caucasian looking guy who acts like Eddie Murphy's white man impression and... dwarves. You didn't even try establishing somekind of lore,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Daedelic has made a huge amount of money on making terrible games, and this has happened again. The game hasn't been out long, and is already abandoned. Keep this in mind and stay away from some of the worst devs in the industry when they release their next cash grab.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Warcraft 3 clone that could have been good, but it's crap. You only have to look at the other reviews to see that people wanted the game to work. People are hungry for a quality classic style RTS, but Daedalic Entertainment gave us this. ⭐ If you can get it on sale for 99% off and you like Warcraft 3, you can try it. ⭐ I like the art style. ⚠️ Generic, unfunny campaign. Uncreative missions. ⚠️ Horrible AI Pathfinding. Units get stuck if they get in the way of another, so a bunch of traffic…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is only 6 skirmish maps, 3 maps have (beta) in the name, path finding is bad, items for heros dont appear in skirmish only in campaign, online is dead, offline there if no difficulty for AI and default is building only 1 unit and thats it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Year of Rain could be seen as a spiritual successor to WC3. As a big WC3 fan, I'm very excited to refund this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"The more Clones you encounter, the more you admire the Original." Despite coming about 15 years too late, this title wants to be something like Warcraft 3, but even succumbs to Warcraft 2 mechanics. The pathfinding alone is a nuisance. I wanted to give this game a second chance and had to learn, that even the devs did not. They abandoned their game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The development of this game is clearly unfinished. Lack of saving in campaign is a ridiculous, because it forces you to play several times due to a simple mistake sometimes caused by bad pathfinding of the game. The game could be really good if it was not abandoned.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I purchased this on sale and played a few missions in campaign & a quick skirmish. It's a lot like Warcraft 3, which is a good start. However, it doesn't add anything of substantial value over Warcraft 3, it plays like a custom campaign you could play for free in Warcraft 3 - that's how similar they are. There are only 3 player races as well, I only played 2 of them but they felt different enough. Furthermore, A Year of Rain has a set of issues - most notably the pathfinding (units will stop…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wish I could recommend this game. However, even though the devs did a fairly good job putting it together, it's still not polished enough at this point to be worth playing. The pathfinding makes it frustrating. Units are getting stuck between cliffs because of it. The AI does dumb crap. Annoying campaign lose conditions that makes it so it's easy to get a surprising loss, thus giving even more frustrations. Weird audio missing or delayed making the cutscenes or the different…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Took game that was geared to be better than warcraft 3.... made it into a bigger scam than warcraft 3 reforged... good job. Never buyin daedalic again
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abandoned, this is eternal early access. Not worth any time spent.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The style, the story and overall art of "A Year of Rain" was really interesting. It got me not only into playing the game but also interested in looking into other (maybe more "mainstream") Daedalic games. It's this mortal combination of long campaign scenarios, with in-game crashes and no possibility to save the game, that has me worried. Sorry no, I don't waste my time like that. The graphics look good but really they are only a slight improvement over Warcraft, with which the comparison is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This had some genuinely interesting RTS ideas, especially with the co-op focus, but the game clearly launched before it was ready. Bugs, balance issues, and matchmaking problems made it hard to stick with, and the abandonment afterwards pretty much sealed its fate. There’s a glimpse of a great strategy game buried in here somewhere, which honestly makes it more disappointing. Feels like wasted potential.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game could be good, but it got abandoned. Don't buy unless you want to pretend your playing a buggy Warcraft 3, that's what I did.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →STAY AWAY - This title has been abandoned by its developers and left to rot in an unfinished state!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A YEAR OF RAIN Are you ready?... for what your asking eh.. well I'm about to Arnoldshitsanager 💩 on this F*cking Warcraft ripoff big time. Thats right, imagine playing the classic Wc3 that we and i have come to love but your units are constantly saying where the F*ck do i go? Pathfinding it absolutely destroyed in this game, some of your units will standby while others fight, some units in their way is far to significant of a feat to get by... honestly what a sh*tty title.. speaking of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It will be kicking a dead game, but i want to write some notes as a old fan of RTS genre. A Year of Rain give you positive premise with really good graphics, cutscenes better than in some Warcraft 3 remake and good-old-blizzard like gameplay, but i quickly learn how much it feels unpolished. There is one short campaign for only one of three factions with uninspired missions and really badly led plot with world and characters which you don't care beacuse you don't know anything about them.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not finished product, if you want to "try" it. Wait for 90% sale. Otherwise, don't play it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The mechanic of moving is not so good. And there is no save games. Very frustrated. don't buy yet. Perhaps with the save games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly the game has alot of potentials if the Devs didnt abandon it. the Fps are too low and i have an overkill PC. i dont understand why the game FPS are always 20 fps. it needs to be optimized or it needs a deadly graphic card that hasnt been released yet. 20 fps is not fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like it, but the devs have stopped working on the game and it will never be finished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They stop the development without offering refunds. The pathfinding will remain unbearable broken and the content promised will not be delivered
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OLD REVIEW AT BOTTOM I think my favorite part of the game is that 24 days after the announcement that development of this game has ended, the description on the Steam store still has the devs saying "We expect to reach full release soon!" I understand that this indie team sees this as a failed project and that it wouldn't make business sense to give a refund to the people that supported this game before they stopped working on it, but what hurts me the most is that the devs released a road…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had potential, but it's an unfinished mess; the pathfinding is abysmal; your units get stuck most of the time on random bits of terrain, and what's worse, there's no save button, so if any important unit/hero gets stuck somewhere, and you can't trigger a cutscene to 'free' them, you'll just have to restart the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mission, wasting upwards of 40 minutes. Plus, if your heroes die at any point during the mission, game over, gotta replay that mission again, wasting even more time. The last 3…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought game ... game is not bad bt it only last to chapter 9-10 What is start of story and just found out it will not get finish ..sad . . Cose of no Future? I dont rec.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No save options and annoying bugs related to pathfinding.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oof this game is really trying hard to be Warcraft and had the makings of being great. Unfortunately, the unit pathing is trash and the skill ceiling is so low you practically hit your head on it in the first level.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →is not a bad game or a great game but what is really bad...not save...not even autosave....really?:|MAKE AVAILABLE AN OPTION TO SAVE THE GAME!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunantly there is no way to save progress during game play. The game autosaved between chapters, but you can spend hours, and get to the last moment, and if you fail the mission, you will have to start from the beginning. I'm not sure what the developers were thinking when they left that option out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sham. Furious that these devs are pulling the plug before it even got off the ground. Total waste of money and will never knowingly support any members of this studio again.
