Love the artwork in this game especially the killer allsorts. Has a nice retro filter than is going to a love or hate thing but I thought it looked cool. There is a both an oldschool and easier new mode. I naturally played it old school. Trying to play the mega drive version from the emulator menu currently does nothing. Not that I am that interested in playing it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool is back! The (only) space-travelling, dimension-hopping goblin ninja has awoken from his 30-year old slumber for his first adventure’s retelling. The question is: how does this platform relic hold up today? The dev team team did an amazing job with this remaster. All the 2D sprites have been reworked and updated to work on today’s monitors. Zool I and II were visually the most impressive Commodore Amiga 500 games, and the graphics still hold up today. The protracker-style music from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Back in the day this game was sponsored by Chupa Chups. Now I think it's a good retro platformer for everyone to enjoy. Music is just a little f***** up but you should like it! Level design is very good and so is the gameplay. Later levels are about to get more challenging and you gonna face some weird boss fights but don't worry as you know plenty of moves... You can climb, wall jump, double jump, slide and shoot pellets. Nice to see Zool on Steam!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I grew up with an Amiga 500 which was eventually replaced by an Amiga 1200. Zool was the Amiga's answer to Sonic and Mario and while it doesn't get anywhere near those heights it was still a good platform game and a good mascot for the Amiga. I've had a lot of fun playing through it again and the devs have done a good job of creating this new version. Having the screen more zoomed out makes it much better to see where your going. It also comes with the original Megadrive version, which was a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its ok, but tbh the nostalgia has faded and I kind of feel bad that the Chupa Chups logos are gone. There are better platformers. But cudos for including the megadrive version in the game, too bad the Amiga version is not
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool was among the first video games I ever played in the early '90s, along with Super Mario World and Donkey Kong. This reworked version is very well done and it's a huge improvement of how the game plays and feels. It's a lot smoother and more fluid than the original. Highly recommended, especially to anyone who used to play this as a kid. Sometimes nostalgia makes things from your childhood seem better than they really are, but that's not the case here. Zool is still cool.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate to be so negative about a game I remember fondly from my childhood, but this is simply not very good. You might still want to buy it if you have nostalgic feelings about the original, but do so as an act of games preservation, not because you expect a great gaming experience. The remake is fine on a technical level. You can choose from three levels of widescreen zoom, all the way from original 1992 size-Zool where you have no chance to see what’s coming up as the screen starts…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved playing Zool. I'm not an experienced gamer but found the tutorial great and loved the characters, especially Sweet Beastie but he is very mean!!! Interesting reading the Beastipedia. The retro graphics are great, bought back memories from when my boys were young playing on their handheld gaming machines. The Sumo Digital Academy has obviously been a great success and I would say a very well done to all the young Programmers and Designers who have worked on this game. More…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool was the first game I ever played, but it's difficulty is something that has struggled to engage people nowadays. Not only that, but it's virtually inaccessible to most gamers given the release platforms it got. This game does so many things right, difficulty rebalancing, combines aspects from all ports, does new things incredibly well, encourages replayability, and is on the most accessible platform possible. Hands down, this is the best way to play the revived 1992 classic, and it is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a child, I owned the SNES port of this game and could never get into it for one reason- the screen crunch. People incessantly complain about this issue as it pertains to the classic Sonic trilogy, but let me tell you...it made what would otherwise have been a great game borderline unplayable. Redimensioned does for Zool what the Taxman did for Sonic- it boosts the field of view while also providing a few added bells and whistles to enhance the experience. The former makes a *world* of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Coming from someone who never played the original Zool, this game is really solid. Controls are tight and responsive and also challenging while not feeling too unfair. It also includes the mega drive version of the original game via emulation. The only problem I have with the game is that the new zoomed out view makes it a bit hard to see enemies and projectiles especially in the later levels, but I still really enjoy the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved the orginal, Had it both on PC and later mega drive. This update is fantastic (Little bit short for my liking). But the old school graphics and the music brings back fond memories and the game play is even better. For £7.99 you can grumble at all. Also just watched the video on how a lot of trainee programmers helped with the production of this remake. If the quality of work in this title is anything to go by you will be just fine in the industry.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loving the game. Its controls are tight and fast, with it all playing as you would like to remember it. It also has a nice filter on it to look great on your modern TV's... It even has a Mega Drive original emulated port thrown in, so you can see how better it all plays. Definitely this is how all remasters should be, with genuine love and care in rebuilding the game ground and remastering every part yet remaining faithful to the original game. Any negatives? Well only the flaws of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's great Zool Redimensioned action-platform classic and remaster and Steam achievements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great remaster, built from the ground up, of this classic platformer. I described this game on stream as "a fantastic remake of a troubled game" because the original versions of Zool have not aged well at all. From the small viewport, to the floaty controls (exacerbated by the game being inherently designed for the 50 FPS Amiga and not optimised for its subsequent releases in the US), it doesn't play as nostalgia remembers it. The remaster, however, does a grand job of making the 60 FPS…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think Zool is the closest the Commodore Amiga came to having its own "mascot platformer" like Sonic or Mario. It's the pinnacle of 16 bit nonsense, with vivid colours, wacky music, sprawling levels, and loads of different enemies. The remake has a save system so you can revisit any level you've reached before, and adds a much-needed double jump that makes higher areas much more accessible and later bosses a bit more feasible for older or more ten-thumbed players. I bought this game on sale…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The real black ninja. It's the interdimensional gremlin ZOOL. You love him, you need him. A '92-'93 Amiga & MS-DOS classic, looking and sounding funkier than ever and playing as good as it did in your memory. Polished and bug-free, faithful and well-rounded revival of a long-forgotten charming gem featuring enhanced and classic game modes, along with an emulated, vintage Mega Drive build, and sprinkled with many gameplay improvements and most welcome QoL features that bring it to more…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool Redimensioned, developed by Sumo Digital Academy and published by Secret Mode, is a faithful yet revitalized remake of the 1992 Amiga classic Zool: Ninja of the Nth Dimension. The original game was a defining relic of the early ’90s platformer boom—a time when mascot characters were competing for the spotlight once dominated by Sonic and Mario. This modern reimagining preserves much of that nostalgic charm while layering in smoother controls, refined visuals, and thoughtful quality-of-life…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember going to a friends house and playing this game on the Amiga commodore. I remember it was the pc/amiga platform game to Sonic and Mario. The only other platform games for the pc at the time was commander keen, duke nukem and later Jazz Jack rabbit. I think it was a game where I got to the 2nd level and maybe 3rd, but this was really due to the game not having a save function as far as I can remember, so Zool redimensioned, has a save progress function which is a big improvement, as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool Redimensioned is an ancient game from 1992. It's a whopping 32 years old at the time of this review. While the game has been updated to display in widescreen format, there's no support for modern gaming display resolutions. The remaster does make the game playable and it runs okay on modern PCs, but the shallowness of the game and the fact the visuals and other aspects of the game haven't been addressed makes this just more abandonware, but slightly less abandoned. Despite this lack of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Take notes Limited Run Games, THIS IS HOW YOU RE-RELEASE AN OLD GAME! This isn't just an emulator this is a ground up rebuild of the game based on the original, it plays fantastically with super fast response and perfect frame pacing, the only things I can knock are a lack of options, you can have perfectly sharp pixels if you change the viewport size but other than that you are stuck with a very ugly CRT filter and that's your lot, something like xBRZ would have been nice but overall this is a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I purchased this, I was expecting the British version of the game that I had on my Amiga 1200 when I was growing up (anyone else remember the Goldfish cheat which gave you the ability to skip levels and have permanent invincibility? Or the wheel you needed to activate the game when you had to match the correct Zool legs to the Zool head?) This is a different version where the levels are quite different from what I remember. I think there were only 3 levels in each world in the version I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool - A game never got to play during my childhood but always remembered due to the iconic character. But I wasn't very into this. Sure staying up the whole night and starting a playthrough at 6am didn't help, but this Redimensioned edition is a weird mishmash of other games. Sonic without the speed. Mario with a gun. Backgrounds treated with the same brightness and importance of the foreground. Picks up and enemies and background flavour pieces all look equally prominent. Bizarrely jerky…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool was too zoomed in and fast for it's own good, and was a non-linear key hunt (as was the style at the time) that got frustrating fast. This remaster fixes those things, gives you additional play modes, and polishes the presentation. The result is a lot of fun, and worth a shot for any fan of retro platformers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A worthy successor that I'd argue even surpasses the original (which is actually included as a bonus feature with this game), Zool Redimensioned is a fast-paced action platformer. It's pretty straightforward: just run, jump, defeat enemies, and collect goodies. This game features a "redimensioned" mode which is more focused on getting to the end, or a classic mode that plays more similar to the original Zool by restricting double jumps and requiring certain collectables to continue. The art…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite a good remastered game. But I miss the original Amiga version as well as the awesome CD32 version. Gremlin and Warp Factory had made this original game an icon for the Amiga gaming industry. It sucks that Commodore died and the Amiga founder, Jay Miner in 1994 as the CD32 and A1200 didn't compete well enough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing the original back in the day, I always found Zool 'fun', but attempting to go back to it these days has been hard with its slippery controls and generally unforgiving nature. Zool Redimensioned however, isn't just the original game slapped into an emulator. This game is tight and redesigned to play so much smoother, with I believe redesigned levels too and with a lot more quality of life improvements. For one, the screen is zoomed out more so you can see more of the level before you,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Satisfying Retro Platformer, but only when you ninja through the levels, which the game is designed around anyway. Carefully scroll through the levels while aiming for collectibles and most of you will get bored, even with the fine (short) level length. However, my only complaint with this game is, that hazards & enemies blend in all too well with the environment, and so, most of the damage taken is to be considered 'cheap'. In the end, it doesn't really matter, as at least in the Redimensioned…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played Zool back in the day on Genesis, SNES, and Jaguar. Saw this on sale for$1.99. Yep, Zool still sucks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did my first playtrough of the game on Redimensioned mode, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations because this game is actually really good! I thought it was gonna be your typical Amiga janky platformers like SuperFrog HD, but do not be fooled by its visuals and music, because even the music is better than on SuperFrog HD. TDLR; Very fun fast as hell platformer that's going to make your fingers tired after 50 minutes of button smashing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you don't have access to Zool on any retro consoles, this is the next best way to play! You can play in the Redimensioned way or the classic way it was meant to play in! I personally choose the redimensioned way because I don't see myself without the skills and full screen view, BUT it's up to you how things look and feel in the end! 10/10 Is he a ninja?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing this as a first grader, still good fun 30 years after :) And to be honest, I had to put some effort into defeating that toy boss. Great stuff! Well done Sumo Digital Academy, keep up the good work! Glad to support you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game I absolutely love, but I can't recommend to new players who haven't played the original. I grew up on this game, so I am biased in that respect. This was one of the three very first SEGA Mega Drive games I ever owned; Zool: Ninja of the Nth Dimension, Ecco the Dolphin and Castle of Illusion. The small improvements made over the original are incredibly helpful. The spin attack makes those annoying Bumble Bee and drum enemies more bearable! I bought it immediately purely for the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the enhanced version i wish i had on my Amiga, back in the day. A fluider and funnier one. Thanks to the devs for your work ! :-)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've loved the zool games since I had the original on the Amiga, but without the chupa chups lollipops and giant polo mints it's just not a genuine Zool experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to play this on my dad's Amiga when I was a kid. So glad to see it on a modern system. If you have a liking for retros and platformers, this is a real gem. Its faced paced, with some tricky boss battles. You really can't go wrong with it. There are 2 modes, classic and 'redimensioned' - which just makes it a little easier. There is also a filter you can activate to get a real 90's look to it. For those that played the original......a proper nostalgia trip.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the original game during my childhood and it was extremely difficult back then. This is considerably easier with checkpoints and the possibility of having a larger view of the screen. Also there is no Chupa Chups branding/sponsorship anymore. Recommended for those who played the original or for those who want to experience a modernized version of a 90s 2D platformer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had Zool on SNES and while it was a deeply flawed game, I enjoyed it and it definitely had its charm. This version blows the original out of the water in my opinion. The biggest flaws, as others have described have always been the fact that it feels like a game based on moving fast through large areas, however the small enemies and projectiles will often put a stop to things. As if that wasn't annoying enough, often you'll find yourself jumping or running into spikes since the camera is so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mean I'm sorry to zool lovers but man. the genesis version might legitimately be better
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is for anyone who loves platformers. Redimensioned mode is so delightful to play, since Zool has quite a fluid and varied moveset. The original game from the 90s was good, but kinda hard as it was too fast. They did a great job on this remaster and we need one for Zool 2 also. Verdict: Great game Linux: Works well on Proton Este jogo é para quem curte muito jogos de plataforma. O modo redimensionado é uma delicinha de jogar, já que o Zool tem movimentos bastante fluidos e…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →www.backloggd.com/u/MaxyBee/re... Slowly but surely, backloggd reviews return. First up is Zool RedimeNsioned, a pretty frustrating/fascinating reimagination of an Amiga classic.
unlabelledView post →There's a lot I could say about Zool but for this little review I just want to focus on the graphically direction Zool chose. Quite frankly Zool's art is bad, it manages not only to confuse the player but also hurt them. Each sprite in Zool is a hyper bright mess of colour and unneeded detail, it's truly amazing that the developers managed to find colours this eye searingly bright. Ever thing on screen if constantly asking for you attention and it's difficult to discern whats important in a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not the same without Chupa Chups®. ;(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty boring level game with level design that doesn't stand out. The double jump makes it way too easy except for when it messes you up. But you still want to play it in that setting because it's painful to be too zoomed in on your character in the single jump mode.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never played the original Amiga version but I do have some fond memories of the MS-DOS version of Zool. There were quite a few 'classic' platformers around that time like; Commander Keen, Superfrog, JazzJack Rabbit, Cosmo etc. and Zool fits right there with them...... as long as you compare platformers on PC.. The simple fact is that Zool never got anywhere near the console platformers. Mario Bros. was released 6-7 years before Zool. Mario Bros 3 was even released a year prior to Zool as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool is a criminally underrated game from the 90s, This remake is a very well done modernisation of the classic with better graphics and smoother gameplay. it isn't difficult except for beating the Dev times, which is borderline impossible
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool Redimensioned is a remake of the popular 1990s platformer, Zool - Ninja of the Nth Dimension. Specifically it's apparently based on the level-designs from the Mega Drive version of the game, which I feel was a good choice as the stages in that version flowed quite nicely. The game offers multiple difficulty options: Redimensioned mode is a rebalanced remake where Zool has been given a fun new double-jump move and you can make a straight dash for the exit without worrying about…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First time I've ever played this game and I have to say that it's awesome! The control and feel of the character is a lot better than Sonic imo and the art style is really nice. Though after seeing some gameplay of the Amiga CD32 version of this game, I'm hoping that somehow gets ported as well. It seems to have a way better soundtrack in it as well. Not that there's anything wrong with the one in this. Anyways, great game this is! If you like platformers like Sonic or just any of the Sega Mega…

Just as great as the original games Zool play's like a lot of fun...and that's it...and it's all it needs to be...a simple, fun platformer... No unwanted story or cutscenes, no upgrades...just platforming!! I hope this is the beginning of more Amiga games coming to steam. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just as I remember from 1992. For me this game was the "Mario" of Amiga. Good controls, nice and clean graphics sucked me into this game. Today it's the same.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This remake was awesome! Can't wait for the same to be done with Zool 2!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not bad, but use of cheats is inevitable due to some levels featuring an unbeatable combination of high difficulty and convolutedness. On their own, each can be beatable. Together, though, is another story.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a great remake with full of quality of life upgrades
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zool Redimensioned is the gold standard in rereleasing some random forgotten 90s Scrimblo Bimblo game cos on paper u'd think all the gameplay changes for the modern mode are removing friction until u start going for the dev partimes & realize its all in service of making it a rlly fun speedrun game
