A nice tribute to System Shock, focusing on the atmosphere/ambient story elements over combat. Does a surprisingly good job despite its minimal presentation, and I appreciated the fact that it doesn't rely on extensive scripted sequences to tell it's story or go completely into "walking sim" territory.

Rather minimalistic game about exploring an abandoned spaceship. There are mysteries to solve, guns to collect and questions to ask like: "where is all the crew?". Secret rooms, easter balls and that kind of jam m8. And don't forget, Xanadu is watching...

My Experience I found Spirits of Xanadu looking for "immersive sim" games on Steam. I've really enjoyed games in this genre in the past, and this one seemed to have slipped past my radar. I also love this sort of set-up - exploring a deserted ship and discovering what happened. Other games that do this sort of thing are Stardrop, Event and Tacoma (though I didn't love this last one). I liked the design of the spaceship, the generally intuitive puzzle solutions, and the quality of the…

Spirits of Xanadu aims to be a minimalist System Shock 2, but it just doesn't have enough going on for me to recommend it. The gameplay is pretty simple and the environment is pretty much just a generic space ship. While I don't want to spoil anything, the story is pretty basic and doesn't go anywhere you won't see coming. I didn't hate my time with it, but I don't think it justifies its price tag.

Firstly, the game has a very simple and purposefully vague story which adds to its own suspense feels. I could get the gist of the story, although one of the endings definitely was a bit odd. I did like the idea of the typical sci-fi scenario of completing the mission isn't always the best thing to do. There were three different endings, all a little different (one simply really weird and odd but fitting). I loved the feeling of "going crazy" with "hallucinations" that gave the player the same…

Great game for the price and even better if on sale. it is a short atmospheric exploration game set in the past on board a space ship that has engine and power issues and you were sent to repair it. Things unfold as you explore the ship and find hints and clues to get a better grasp of the situation. The game has multiple endings which is very nice.

This is an absolutely amazing game! Don't be fooled by the simple looking graphics. It was made with plenty of passion and charm. Feels like a mix of "Dead Space" and "Half-Life" with it's story elements and ability to interact with so much of the environment. The main problems with the game is it is very short, especially if you're not reading all of the logs, and that combat is a bit easy with infinite ammo and health that refills when you stand still. I would love to see this game get…

A fun short indie horror game. It seems to take inspiration from movies like Sunshine which is cool. It would have been good to have more actual scares or horror, maybe if there were more crew added in the story instead of just three. Gameplay and exploring every area was fun. The only enemies are robots and they're alright. Theres three endings and plenty of fun easter eggs to find. Fun game to 100% too. It's worth the normal price or sale price.

In Spirits of Xanadu, you are sent to investigate a space ship that stopped responding for some time. There is a surprising amount of story and many audio tapes to listen to. Xanadu also has some nice puzzles to solve that lead to one out of three endings. The main flaw is probably the uninspired art design and there could have been a room with a much bigger threat, but overall Xanadu is a decent short game that is much better than it looks like. The developer is also active on the forum and…

I'm usually not one for FPSs, it's probably among the genres where I suck the most compared to the standard set by Counter Strike, Call of Duty among other popular titles. Hence, when this game came up in my roulette and I looked it up it didn't come off as something I'd enjoy. Well, I was wrong. Spirits of Xanadu is an indie adventure shooter game set in a desolate spaceship (sound familiar?) with lore scattered throughout its vicinity and an objective one has to figure out as they go. Both…

I ran into Spirits of Xanadu when it was mentioned on a list of potential Immersive Sims and that got me really interested. Now when I've played it, do I think it's one? STORY - Spoilers in this part What is Xanadu? Well, it's a bad musical with Olivia Newton-John, but in the context of this game, it's the name of the derelict research spaceship that you explore. The name is probably a reference to Coleridge's "Kubla Khan", but how it's connected to the plot of this game is a bit obscure to…

Lots of spooky vibes, very little plot. Boasts 3 endings, but each is a very brief, very low-effort cutscene. I know it's supposed to be about the journey, not the destination, but come on. I did not feel this was worth the 2 hours I put into it.

I am sorry, I liked this almost up to the end. For a good part, the game present itself as an exploration sci-fi adventure with a disquieting plot and some jump scares, plus fights with robots here and there. The story is not extremely original, but it builds up well and the pace is straightforward. I did not like the constant darkness, but I was compelled to go forward and see what was happening. The problem begins after having explored all the ship, when some items need to be searched and it…

Holy hell where did this come from? I had never heard of it before I got it in a bundle. It's sitting in my library for weeks a the bottom of my play list. As I installed this unassuming game from my library and it opens up with a very ugly ship interior I sighed. I sighed with the prejudice of an idiot. The experience was utterly absorbing from beginning to end, albeit a short one. The best way I can describe Spirits of Xanadu is as a bite-sized immersive sim. You got some weapons, stealth,…

I give the team credit for creating such an atmospheric title with such stark and bold visuals and technical/artistic design. A game where practically every enemy is just a different colour can shooting lasers at you has no business being at times creepy, unsettling, and/or otherwordly. Also tremendous praise to the script and voice actors. Phenomenal job at creating very human and grounded takes and performances which make it all the more unsettling when things go crazy in story. So what's…

Spirits of Xanadu is a first person puzzle/shooter game featuring low poly graphics. Explore an abandoned deep space exploration vessel to uncover the mystery of the missing crew. It's a good premise, but the low poly graphics are a let down. Bad graphics aside, the game crashes on launch. The developer knows about the problem, but in several months hasn't patched or fixed the problem that renders the game unplayable for everyone. They have however managed to keep the game on the store,…

An atmospheric exploration game that really stayed with me. The puzzles can be quite obscure and don’t follow typical game logic, which can be frustrating, but also fits the overall design. It’s closer to a walking sim than an action game—the combat is there, but it’s not the focus. What makes it work is the atmosphere. The ship feels small but believable, and the story told through logs and notes is engaging, even if it never gives clear answers. It’s a minimalist experience, both in mechanics…

4.4 It's an okay game, it has a fair amount of neat little interactables and it certainly doesn't overstay it's welcome. The 'best' ending is a little obtuse to get along with some of the achievements being secrets and also things nobody would likely do. The narratively (along with the game as a whole) is very small and rather limited. It's fine if you want to spend maybe an hour on a short little sci-fi im-sim super-lite.

Very moody. I very much liked exploring the ship. the notes were well written, The idea behind hiding an ending behind finding almost every single note, i could do without, some were hidden a bit too well. I had fun, it's not really a challenging game, more of a walking simulator where you sometimes shoot enemies, the game might as well not have them, to be honest. Atmosphere carries it, but it does it well enough that i recommend this, if you like moody, slightly spooky little games.

Spirits of Xanadu is a short and sweet simple game that plays like a very simplified System Shock 1. The atmosphere is surprisingly effective for the simplistic graphics, the attention to detail and environmental interactivity is very commendable, and there are a fair few secrets jam packed into the experience. 1. The game has a lot more immersive sim elements compared to "horror FPS" or whatever; 2. Finished it while trying to explore as much of the ship as possible in an hour and a half. It is somewhat replayable / speedrunable; Overall I really do recommend this. Would I have paid 5 euros for it? maybe not (even though it's still really cheap), but at 1,24? it's a steal and I highly recommend it if you're a fan of immsims

I really enjoyed playing this game. I spent most of my time aboard the Xanadu in peaceful mode, exploring every room, reading every e-mail, eating donuts, and playing an arcade game. The story is simple and unfolds at a good pace. The graphics and music won't win any awards, but they get the job done. Full disclosure: I am not a FPS fan and I rarely play those games. I got killed a lot in easy mode. If you're an experienced FPS player, you'll probably survive longer than I did.

FPS Adventure game with mild puzzles and hidden object characteristics. The story is the strongest part of this game, but the whole package is pretty satisfying. The game is set in a spaceship with the power mostly out so you spend most of your time wandering around with a tiny flashlight trying not to get lost and occasionally engaging in some mild shooting action to keep the ship's defense droids at bay. The story is pieced together from audio recordings, blood splatters, and the occasional…

To be completely honest, I bought this because bundled with Filcher, it was cheaper than buying Filcher alone. I'm glad I did, though, this was surprisingly engrossing. The System Shock / Deus Ex / immersive sim influence is obvious, but it's stripped down and compact, but still manages to pack a good punch, partly because it does a good job removing what's extraneous for its length. This is the only wholly original game Nightdive has ever been a publisher of, which already makes it stand out. The fact it clearly takes a lot of inspiration from System Shock may have been a reason they decided to support it.
