World of Horror is a 2023 role-playing video game developed by Paweł Koźmiński and published by Ysbryd Games. It takes place in the year "198X" in the fictional town of Shiokawa, Japan. The player explores various locations and fights otherworldly creatures in order to halt a looming apocalypse. Initially conceived as a card board game, Koźmiński later reimagined the project as a video game, inspired by the works of… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

I cannot recommend this game, as updates have essentially stagnated, to the point that even 3 years ago, when i stopped playing after the dev themselves insulted me directly in their own discord, an update that had been in the works since then has not come out, while merchandise has, and while the game is feature complete, it feels as though so much of the game just remains unfinished, while the community has to pick up the pieces to make their own mysteries, characters and whatnot.

Welcome to Elderfield is launching on the 10th of September, it's a Stardew Valley style farming sim with a horror spin, great artstyle, and turn-based combat that reminded me of World of Horror. The demo was so good I had to stop playing so as not too burn myself before the game got here, try it!

Top notch visuals, sound, music (the music absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥ jesus christ), atmosphere and overall presentation. I remember playing this game for the first time and being infatuated with the world and the aesthetic on offer. Sadly however, it's lacking in actual depth and variety as a game. After you've beaten it a couple times, you've seen it all really. The new characters, old gods and backstories are cool, and do help add some variety. But these do not make up for the games lack of depth.…

I really like this game, have been playing it even before it was released. It's a bit hard to understand at first if you don't play alot of turn-based RPG but once you get it, it's pretty fun (and hard). The thing that makes me not recommend is that it's unfiniched, and it hasnt had any updates in a while (a few years). It's not unplayable, but for the price and being abandoned for so long, I dont think it's worth it. If you have the means and love horror text RPG, buy it. If not, dont waste…

It pains me to write this review, because this game showed such promise. The art, the music, all of the different mystery scenarios are so good. It perfectly encapsulates Junji Ito's brand of horror in video game form. However, despite being out of early access, the game still feels very much unfinished, unbalanced, and lacking the overall polish of a complete product. There's also a lot of features that were promised in future updates but were never delivered on, and the developer seems to…

While a stunning game to look at, this game hasn't actually been updated in nearly three years and has had so much merchandise and ports of the game pushed in that time that it has completely soured this incomplete and unpolished buggy experience. It's truly a shame that what seemed so promising and unique in terms of Junji Ito inspired arts turned out to be nothing but an abandoned merchandise machine. Edit: Suddenly the game is out of early access???

Why is this Steam Deck verified? Screen scaling doesn't work properly, controller inputs doesn't work either, any proper Steam Deck workable config isn't default and all button prompts are for KBM even with the controller setting enabled. As usual, the verification system is a joke, especially with titles like this.

This game is so conceptually cool, but it feels abandoned by the devs. Features are half implemented or broken, like controller support with no deadzones, the options menu doesn't save changes until you start a game and save from within that, just lots of little sloppy missteps that have persisted for years. It degrades faith in the product, especially when basic content updates move at a snail's pace. It feels like it's still an early access game despite the 1.0 release. This is a game I've…

This game is probably one of the most disappointing games I've ever bought that I had to come back 2 years later to finally write out my impression of it. I was incredibly excited to play this when it first released, being a fan of J-horror movies and Junji Ito, but quickly found the game to be a very repetitive text adventure, with extremely short gameplay loops and lots of the same blocks of text to re-read over and over again that it felt as i I wasn't making much progress at all. If the hours and hours of playtime don't say it, I do love this game. However, I can only recommend buying it on sale. The last update to World of Horror was February of 2024, promising updates in March (of 2024!), which obviously never actually happened. As much as I love this game, its aesthetic, its gameplay loop: I can't in good conscience *recommend* it. Very good "vibe like," the roguelike genre actually lends itself well to Junji Ito's serialized horror. The soundtrack is spectacular, and makes chiptune shockingly listenable, and I personally enjoy the artstyle and aesthetic a lot. So why the negative? There just really aren't that many mysteries to play through (which act as the core "stories"/horror of the game), and they serve as my major draw to the game. There are currently ~20. This seems like a robust number, and a few of them are…

I don't think it's necessarily worth full price, but I do think it's worth playing if you're into this sort of thing. Don't let the other reviews mislead you. There's 10+ hours of gameplay here unless you immediately jump into the game with some sort of a guide to lead you by the nose. And even then, it would take a while given the RNG. I think there was an expectation of a greater scope for the game by others, myself included. But even given that it's development has effectively grinded to a non-existent crawl, the juice is worth the squeeze. What's there is still a complete experience for the price. It's…

Most of the mysteries don't have enough branches to fit together well as modular building blocks in a run-based game, you're painfully powerless in the face of RNG, and the game left Early Access for a "1.0" that was still transparently missing content. World of Horror blends Junji Ito–inspired art with turn-based roguelike gameplay to create an unsettling, slow-burn experience. The 1-bit visuals and creeping sound design do a great job of building dread. Runs can feel RNG-heavy, but that unpredictability fits the cosmic horror theme perfectly.

    - Main reason for a negative review is the price, so utterly overpriced for a pretty basic game with limited content + It is worth a play if 50% or so discount, if you like Junji Ito's horror manga you will like this - Very convoluted & confusing UI, a complete mess. You just navigate the game by clicking through menus, there is a few fixed locations to go, repetitive cases to solve & repetitive combat. It feels like the devs were confused when making this game, so the UI is confusing.
