Warriors of the Wind
After a global war, the seaside kingdom known as the Valley of the Wind remains one of the last strongholds on Earth untouched by a poisonous jungle and the powerful insects that guard it. Led by the courageous Princess Nausicaä, the people of the Valley engage in an epic struggle to restore the bond between humanity and Earth. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →I've often wondered when was the first time a Ghibli film was screened in the UK and I think I have an answer. 15th November 1987, Laputa at the London Film Festival. ("...a worthy successor to Warriors of the Wind"!)
unlabelledView post →weebs: the Nausicaä movie is bad because it only adapts 2 volumes of material from a 7 volume manga that the author was making up as he was going along over 12 years also weebs: Warriors of the Wind is bad because it cuts stuff out of the Nausicaä movie, which is a perfect film with zero flaws
unlabelledView post →This scene was edited out of the F.H.E. Warriors of the Wind version of the movie. Which is one of the reasons why Miyazaki sent a samurai sword to Michael Eisner at Disney when they bought the rights to translate Princess Mononoke.
unlabelledView post →Warriors Of The Wind horrified Miyazaki, so he ensured Disney wouldn’t cut Princess Mononoke by sending them a katana with the message “No Cuts!” And that movie was so strangely handled that the poster is an absolute trip.
unlabelledView post →When Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, now considered a timeless anime classic, first came over here it got cur and butchered and reedited into a new movie called Warriors of the Wind that was so bad Miyazaki/Ghibli adopted a policy of not allowing any cuts or reedits of their movies ever again
unlabelledView post →A little feral, deeply feeling, passionate, but dismissed by those around her. Powerfully kind, yet capable of drawing blood, & always fighting for the right reasons - Princess Nausicaa has been my hero since I first saw her (& this movie) as a wee girl in it's butchered form, 'Warriors of the Wind'
unlabelledView post →Some of my favorites. Sketches from Nobuteru Yuuki and Hiroshi Nagahama, Sailor Moon cel signed by Kotono Mitsuishi, and as far as unusual, a theatrical sized movie poster for Warriors of the Wind.
unlabelledView post →My favorite animated movie is Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Yeah, my first exposure to it was in the 80s with the infamous Warriors of the Wind version... but even THAT version resonated with me as a kid in a way that probably influenced my creativity more than I ever realized.
unlabelledView post →I have a complex relationship w/ the Nausicaä movie. I saw it first as Warriors of the Wind, and even in that state, loved it. Then, I read and fell in love with the manga. Returning to the movie, it felt disappointing. A mere piece of a far bigger whole. Now, I can appreciate it for what it is.
unlabelledView post →I hear the film was released in the US as "Warriors of the Wind"? It didn't really make much of a splash. Anyway, here's the NAUSICAÄ ADVENTURE GAME title screen!
unlabelledView post →the 1967 Hobbit short film is like what people wanna believe Warriors of the Wind is
unlabelledView post →a few things i am ABSOLUTELY gonna try to look for aside from the manga the film was based on: - Warriors of the Wind: very early English dub from the 80s that's very bad - Disney Demo VHS: uses the Disney dub, was never properly released on a US VHS to my knowledge aside from this.
unlabelledView post →If you haven't seen this movie, I highly recommend it. Try to find the original if you can, rather than the badly cut Warriors of the Wind.
unlabelledView post →The classic Topcraft movie Warriors of the Wind
unlabelledView post →I credit the film programmer in the early 80s for getting this avail on the big screen and upon walking out asking to buy the HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME poster to which was said come back with a parent... best .50 cents ever. The film ticket may have been $2 at the most...and called WARRIORS OF THE WIND!
unlabelledView post →Seriously. My fave will always be Nausicaa, but I've loved that movie since I was a teenager (in its heavy-HBO-rotation life as "Warriors of the Wind") so I'm hardly an objective judge.
unlabelledView post →Same! Reminded that the first time I saw Nausicaa was on a super old bootleg betamax of Warriors of the Wind & we legit could not tell if the animators had actually drawn her without pants. (I was reading the manga so I knew she had pants. My friend was like "that looks like an old movie I have!)
unlabelledView post →My first Ghibli film was Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, but i saw the Warriors Of The Wind edited vhs version.
unlabelledView post →please let me know if you find the lost World Film/Television Corporation translation and/or dub of Nausicaä made before Warriors of the Wind lol archive.org/details/Anim...
unlabelledView post →I unironically wish Miyazaki would make the movie that exists on the Warriors of the Wind cover art because I would watch that kind of trippy sci-fi space opera with flying Pegasi and laser swords
unlabelledView post →Warriors of the Wind also has the most amazing example of “movie poster that is completely unrelated to the movie” ever.
unlabelledView post →My wife initially thought I made up Warriors of the Wind. I shan't show it to her, as it's her favorite film and I don't want to make her sad.
unlabelledView post →Haven forbid a Miyazaki movie might be a bit bloated. I'm curious though, where's the current Warriors of the Wind discourse happening?
unlabelledView post →Nausicaa was once picked up for distribution by New World Pictures. Renamed “Warriors of the Wind.” That version cut the film down by 22 mimutes. Miyazaki insisted no film of his should be cut. A similar situation almost happened with Mononoke, but a katana was sent with the words “no cuts.”
unlabelledView post →A lovely film; Sadly, a horribly edited dub called “Warriors of the Wind” was shown at the first Los Angeles International Animation Celebration alienated anyone who saw the original sub earlier. [https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1985-08-23-ca-24672-story.html]
unlabelledView post →Same. The first version I saw was Warriors of the Wind on Canadian TV in the 80s that had a 'Late Movie' program on the weekends that showed all kinds of movies. It was edited a bit, but I loved it. I later had the poster for the WotW vhs release, and wow is it not the film. 😅
unlabelledView post →80s anime like "Clash of the Bionoids" (Macross movie) & "Warriors of the Wind" (Nausicaa) were cut up messes. TV tried to reproduce new Robotechs but flopped. Only Akira had a deserved general following. Meanwhile, my friends were on Amigas subtitling shows & fansubs caught on across fan clubs.
unlabelledView post →Case #7: Warriors of the Wind (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind) Half of the characters on the cover do not appear in the film.
unlabelledView post →it was the first ghibli movie I’d seen and was originally named, Warriors of the Wind
unlabelledView post →Oh man that Warriors of the Wind poster. I remember renting it and thinking, the poster lied to me about everything. Still enjoyed the movie though.
unlabelledView post →It did well overseas too, as the first Ghibli film dubbed by Disney (through Miramax) under their deal with Ghibli's parent company. Remembering the debacle of the "Warriors of the Wind" Nausicaä dub, this was when Suzuki allegedly sent a sword to Harvey Weinstein with the note "no cuts". [11/12]
unlabelledView post →In the US in the 80s it was "Warriors of The Wind" and that movie meant the world to me as a kid. Still means a lot to me as an adult, I bought the manga twice, the OGs and the collected omnibus. I've owned the OG VHS and DVD. Aka Nausicaa www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFgZ...
unlabelledView post →Me explaining the 80's Miyazaki "Nausicaa" drama to a younger generation of fans over hurricanes: "When I was your age, the only Studio Ghibli movie we could get our hands on was a bastardized version of "Warriors of the Wind" rented from a local gas station AND WE WERE GRATEFUL FOR EVEN THAT MUCH!"
unlabelledView post →I think my first anime experience was Warriors of the Wind, the Disney butchering of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind share.google/MDaQ7YVXyBPY... It left a sufficiently deep impression that, long after I saw that VHS from the corner shop, I knew it when I walked past my roommate watching it.
unlabelledView post →I am of the "watched Robotech on broadcast television in middle school" cohort. If you don't like that, then how about the dubbed Nausicaa movie ("Warriors of the Wind") showing on HBO a couple years later?
unlabelledView post →I credit the film programmer in the early 80s for getting this avail on the big screen and upon walking out asking to buy the HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME poster to which was said come back with a parent... best .50 cents ever. unlabelledView post →They even renamed it "Warriors of the Wind" and made box/poster art that had nothing to do with the movie. It was my first exposure to Miyazaki when I was a kid and even that chopped up and badly dubbed version was still better than most stuff released here in the states at the time.

unlabelledView post →Man, now I wish that "Godzilla Warriors of the Wind" was a real movie!
unlabelledView post →(technically "Warriors of the Wind" was even earlier but that doesn't count; that movie was pretty much the whole reason Miyazaki reputedly sent Harvey Weinstein a goddamn katana and the warning "NO CUTS!" when Mononoke came West)
unlabelledView post →The guys in my berthing compartment would sometimes throw a tape in the VCR (ask your parents to explain) in the evening. One time someone put in an animated film and I was transported. The movie was “Warriors of the Wind”, more properly known as “Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind”.
unlabelledView post →👊🏼 that movie hit me like a freight train! On video in 1984. Knew nothing about it but the box art and the title (Warriors of the Wind) sounded cool. Completely transformed my 10 year old brain.
unlabelledView post →Misread it as Warriors of the Wind and OMG THIS SITE IS INFURIATING I JUST WANNA WATCH THE MOVIE ALREADY I'll be fine. Really. Truly. I mean it. I'm. Fine. *eye twitch*
unlabelledView post →My introduction to Miyazaki was a film reel of Warriors of the Wind checked out from the library. Probably 8mm? I think that was the first movie that made me cry. I'll hold Nausicaa over all of them, but none of them over themselves. Each has something to celebrate.
unlabelledView post →Just did another watch of Warriors of the Wind for this essay rewrite and whoof... there's more to say this time about that cut of the film...
unlabelledView post →Non stop violence in a post apocalyptic earth, this is so much more anime than Ghibli. It isn't actually a true Ghibli film but is often marketed as such. It's style is very different to that usually associated with Ghibli. If you're expecting 'My Neighbour Totoro', you'll be disappointed. I like Ghibli films but this falls into an anime spiral of - attack the armies that control the power and release the monster driving army2 into the acid sea who must retaliate by killing more people and…
