unlabelledView post →The Wind Rises is a film about a creative genius living an absurd failed life that ultimately feels tragic, whereas Millennium Actress is kinda the same thing except it feels triumphant. The main difference lies in the main character's respective relationships to fascism, collaboration vs defiance.
unlabelledView post →Today's Ghibli movie that I hadn't seen yet: The Wind Rises. Oh. Oh this one got me. Ohhhhhhh gosh.
unlabelledView post →Wanna see some genuine Hayao Miyazaki goodness ? Check out these gorgeous illustrations from his manga for 'The Wind Rises', precursor to the animated film. Explore more in my review - halcyonrealms.com/anime/wind-r...
unlabelledView post →In the genre of "interwar genuises succeed and are then forced to reckon with the aftermath of their creation," "The Wind Rises" is a better film than "Oppenheimer".
unlabelledView post →THE WIND RISES was Miyazaki's most prescient movie, in ways he never even imagined.
unlabelledView post →rewatched The Wind Rises and really struck by how Nahoko is the body of the nation, sick but beautiful, an object of love terminally neglected in pursuit of aircraft. of course she leaves to die during the test flight. the movie itself that preserved memory of how she was - beautiful like the wind.
unlabelledView post →I highly recommend the Studio Ghibli animated film "The Wind Rises", a semi-fictionalized account of the designer of the Zero fighter that weaves his story together with that of a famous Japanese novel "The Wind Has Risen".
unlabelledView post →I was surprised to learn that the various sound effects in the film “The Wind Rises” directed by Hayao Miyazaki were created by the voice and sounds coming from the body of the sound staff. I love this experimental spirit. I recently watched it for the first time in a long time and it was wonderful.
unlabelledView post →The Wind Rises is the film that everyone pretends Oppenheimer is. There is like a single scene that even attempts to grapple with the fact that the dude was building weapons of mass murder.
unlabelledView post →Rewatching ‘The Wind Rises’, maybe my favourite Ghibli film. Just an absolute masterpiece.
unlabelledView post →I see this going around, and I think it's funny because it's obviously not true. Miyazaki initially hesitated to make The Wind Rises (into a film) because it wasn't aimed at children (the usual Ghibli audience). He also considered removing smoking scenes in the story for basically the same reason.
unlabelledView post →You’d think my favorite Miyazaki movie would be Castle of Cagliostro, but I think it’s actually either Spirited Away or The Wind Rises
unlabelledView post →Incredibly funny that The Wind Rises is the movie that everyone pretended Oppenheimer was (not my original idea I stole this from Swolecialism)
unlabelledView post →#MayMovieChallenge #Moviesky 5/8 Windy in a movie welp, it's in the title: "The Wind Rises" (2013)
unlabelledView post →The Wind Rises is my favorite Miyazaki movie. As a story about being creative in a world that values destruction over creation, it is also one of my favorite movies about art. I would probably watch it back to back with Kaneto Shindō's Edo Porn which touches some of the same themes more explicitly.
unlabelledView post →My favorite thing is when a movie's theme is "war is bad... but look at all these cool guns and planes." "The Wind Rises" is the only movie I can think of that explores this without any subliminal intentions.
unlabelledView post →Closed a Hayao Miyazaki gap and watched “The Wind Rises” tonight. A beautiful movie. I liked the dream scenes and it slightly broke my heart.
unlabelledView post →first #letterboxdfriday of october and my #lastfourwatched were Black Swan (2010) The Wind Rises (2013) Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (2012) Call Me Chihiro (2023)
unlabelledView post →It's hard for me to pick as there are several top contenders, but Porco Rosso is the first one that came to mind in the moment. You'd think my favourite would be The Wind Rises, and I like it, but there's several I like more (Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke).
unlabelledView post →I think The Wind Rises is such a good, evil movie
unlabelledView post →Twn films to get to know me (no particular order) - Titan: AE - Star Wars: Episode I - Good will hunting - Digimon: The Movie - Tron: Legacy - The Wind Rises - The Banshees of Inisherin - Interstellar - Billy Elliot - Atlantis
unlabelledView post →It's crazy how The Wind Rises is a beautiful movie about an engineer who struggles with the ways in which his art will be used to hurt others and Miyazaki continued forward afterward to be a man who uses his art to hurt others directly.
unlabelledView post →Day 162 recommending an animated film for a full year. Today is my 49th favourite, The Wind Rises. A film that combines the autobiography of aeronautical engineer Jiro Horikoshi with the novel The Wind Has Risen by Tatsuo Hori (The romance was not based on Jiro's life). This beautiful film...

The Gang(tm) discusses The Wind Rises & the first Equestria Girls movie. @missyrowvoice.bsky.social talks a little about Kamen Rider OOO. & I reveal myself as a gay disaster!
unlabelledView post →17. The Wind Rises (10/10) I gave this a 9 last time I watched it, but holy shit, something just BUMPED it on this viewing. Holy shit. If this WAS Miyazaki's last film, it would've been a PERFECT way to end his incredible filmography. I cried. Fuck, I cried.
unlabelledView post →I love how Tom Lehrer singlehandedly managed to stop any kind of The Wind Rises type movie ever being made about Wernher Von Braun
unlabelledView post →I first watched The Wind Rises during its theatrical run the DAY the Oscars were happening that year. So after watching this incredible film made by one of the greatest filmmakers of all time...I got to go home and see it lose to Frozen. And that was the day I learned to hate Frozen XD
unlabelledView post →The Wind Rises (Hayao) From Up on Poppy Hill (Goro) PS to ninety of you: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is not a Ghibli film.
unlabelledView post →Also I just realized that the quest is named The Wind Rises and that movie was specifically about the development of the plane called the Zero, cute double meaning if intentional
unlabelledView post →The Wind Rises is still my favorite of Miyazaki's films. It feels like his most mature film, thematically, and artistically.
unlabelledView post →2010s, one Japanese film per year 10 You Are Umasou (Heart and Yummie) 11 From Up on Poppy Hill 12 One Piece Film Z 13 The Wind Rises 14 Wood Job! 15 I Am A Monk 16 Shin Godzilla 17 Night is Short, Walk on Girl 18 Shoplifters 19 Tora-san, Wish You Were Here
unlabelledView post →I will never, ever get over the story of love and loss that is The Wind Rises. Kiki's is my childhood movie, but The Wind Rises? Wind Rises wins my heart every time. ❤️🔥
unlabelledView post →Mondays are my day off, and that means movie day⭐ Today, I watched 2½ movies: -Your Name🚺⇆🚹 -The Wind Rises✈ and half of -2012📆 Your Name was good! The Wind Rises was GREAT! 2012 is kinda dumb, I'll finish it some other time XD
unlabelledView post →Left tonight's screening of The Wind Rises with tears in my eyes. It's not often a film cuts that deep into me. Once again really glad @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social has been going all in on Destination Ghibli.
unlabelledView post →On this day 10 years ago, Hayao Miyazaki's THE WIND RISES debuted in theatres in Japan. ☁️🛩️☁️ Remembering July 20, 2013. Miyazaki's fascination with flight goes all the way back to his childhood. In fact, he grew up around it since his father was the director of Miyazaki Airplane. The company, which was owned by Miyazaki's uncle, helped to manufacture parts for airplanes during World War II. #ghibli #studioghibli #スタジオジブリ #anime #thewindrises #hayaomiyazaki
unlabelledView post →The Wind Rises (2013) is a beautiful Studio Ghibli film where director Hayao Miyazaki grapples with his love of aviation technology on one hand and his distain for war on the other.
unlabelledView post →I don't know who needs to hear this but A Real Pain will be the fourth movie featuring Jennifer Grey to be nominated for an Oscar (Cotton Club, Dirty Dancing, and The Wind Rises are the other three)
unlabelledView post →Tonight's movie is Nosferatu the Vampire (1979) directed by Werner Herzog. I'm probably most familiar with Herzog voicing Hans Castorp (a character from a Thomas Mann novel) in the English dubbed version of The Wind Rises (2013) directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
unlabelledView post →Somebody on youtube did a tier rating of Miyzaki's films and they put The Wind Rises at the bottom, basically proving themselves to be an idiot. If this film bores you, something's wrong with you.
unlabelledView post →He very, very, very, *very* begrudgingly admits that his arcadian ideal was never real and industrial society had its upsides, this puts him ahead of the curve. Doesn't really explain The Wind Rises but then again nothing about that film is thematically coherent.
unlabelledView post →I generally agree with this list enough not to quibble. The Wind Rises is my problematic fave, though. Kiki's Delivery Service is also the most personally impactful- it is the first film I watch everywhere I have moved.
unlabelledView post →A family-friendly suggestion for one of your holiday movie nights: @terencecgannon.com makes his case for Hayao Miyazaki’s 2013 thoroughly charming animé film 'The Wind Rises', a biopic of legendary Japanese aeronautical engineer Jiro Horikoshi. How many aircraft types can you spot? | 🛩️ ⚔️ 🎬
unlabelledView post →Auteur anime directors are allowed to have one bad movie like Miyazaki and The Wind Rises, Shinkai has Children Who Chase Lost Voices, Oshii has Sky Crawlers and now it’s Hosoda’s turn.
unlabelledView post →Watching some interviews with him about THE MANDALORIAN really changed my concept of who that guy is (also hearing him lend his voice to THE WIND RISES). The joke is that he's this dour, super serious, Eastern European, but he really just loves the magic of film, in all it's splendor.
unlabelledView post →With Disney recent questionable output of sequels. I want to talk to you guys about Miyazaki's experience with sequels. After he got done directing Ponyo in 2008, Miyazaki wanted his next film be a sequel to Ponyo. But his colleague Toshio Suzuki convinced him to make The Wind Rises instead.
unlabelledView post →Set a personal record for crying in a movie: started weeping during the opening dream sequence of THE WIND RISES and then just kept on going for almost the entire runtime
unlabelledView post →Continuing with my rewatching of #StudioGhibli movies. This evening, The Wind Rises. Not as emotional or sweet as Kiki or Spirited Away, but some beautiful art and #animation , especially the dream sequences. #film #AnimatedFilm #TheWindRises
unlabelledView post →Happy timezones! As a reminder there won’t be a stream today or tomorrow. Friday we’ll be doing a bit of co-working and then watching a movie in Discord. We’re currently voting on watching either The Cat Returns or The Wind Rises.
unlabelledView post →Greetings all, I wanted to do a picture inspired by the Studio Ghibli film, The Wind Rises! I hope you all like it, and thank you for watching! #Artist #Artwork #DailyArt #studioghibli #sketch
unlabelledView post →I only have one Miyazaki movie left that I haven't seen yet, the Wind Rises. but I will say, having now watched most of his movies including all his "big ones", I think my personal favorite is still Nausicaa. that one hits all the buttons for me
unlabelledView post →Hmm, maybe I'm too harsh about Letterboxd reviewers. "Princess Monoke flirts with fascist aesthetics, Spirited Away moreso, and The Wind Rises is Miyazaki's most fascist movie to date." Nope, it still sucks, and the majority of that website won't be seeing Heaven.
unlabelledView post →Tonight I watched the studio ghibli movie The Wind Rises. It was so peaceful, now I’m in the perfect brain state to go to bed
unlabelledView post →Miyazaki’s movies are always more about the message than the story. The Wind Rises is maybe the only exception because it’s basically a biography. It’s still a beautiful movie though.
unlabelledView post →Favorite anime film: The Wind Rises #anime #blerdanime #animesky #blacksky
unlabelledView post →The Book of Bill has me re-hyperfixating. Got a favourite Ghibli film? Mine's The Wind Rises.. Also my fave Pokémon is Gengar 😈
unlabelledView post →People always point to Porco Rosso and The Wind Rises for Hayao Miyazaki's love of planes but this one's full of it too. Tons of funky aircraft in this movie. Also nobody in this movie has a fear of heights, these people are clinging to the sides of aircraft and the underside of Laputa with no sweat
unlabelledView post →Plays a key role in The Wind Rises, my favourite Miyazaki film after The Boy and the Heron.
unlabelledView post →The backstories of all of the real aircraft featured in ‘The Wind Rises’, Hayao Miyazaki’s 2013 feature-length animé film based on the life of Jiro Horikoshi. Just one potential problem: you might get through them all in just one month. | 🛩️ 🎬 ⚔️
unlabelledView post →But I gotta disagree: The Wind Rises is his weakest movie, and outright propaganda to the most overrated engineer of WWII.
