Already own the game on GoG. Review below is based on that version. GoG got the same patch. Double dipping on Steam to support the (new) devs and this awesome game. What is new with the new patch? The patch notes gives you a clear indication. The old patch/version didn't properly support widescreen/higher resolutions, or it did partly with Voodoo. The UI didn't scale so you ended up with either black bars or stretching the UI from 4:3 to 16:9. This is no longer an issue with the new patch,…

Warhammer: Dark Omen remains one of the most fascinating and distinctive strategy games ever made. Even today, it feels refreshingly unlike the vast majority of real-time strategy titles, because it is not truly about base-building, resource loops, or mechanical click-speed. At its core, it is about battlefield command: formation discipline, terrain, morale, line of sight, timing, and the controlled application of force under pressure. That is precisely what makes it so remarkable. What Dark…

There are games you enjoy, games you remember, and then there are games that quietly shape who you become. Warhammer: Dark Omen was that game for me. I didn’t just play Dark Omen I experienced it. It was one of my first true encounters with grimdark fantasy, long before I had the language to describe what made it so compelling. The world felt heavy, dangerous, and indifferent in a way that stuck with me. Victory wasn’t clean, and survival often came at a cost. What truly set Dark Omen apart…

THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE TO PLAYING THIS GAME True, controls are clunky and graphics look old, but please tell me if you can find a game like this, gameplay-wise. Literally every single unit is unique with a specific role and a named leader (rather than a generic captain); Each level is handcrafted, it's not like the Total War series (which, mind you, I love) so each battle is different and carefully designed. No, I mean it, if you know of a suitable alternative to this game, please let me…

Great game, glad it's finally on Steam. I apologise for blowing off the door of the chamber unbreachable, and for releasing 17 demons using foul explanatives from my mouth when I found out the cheats didn't work, however after consulting the Libour Mortis I found out that copying your old data into PNG-ENG makes the cheats work. Bad jokes aside, I'm so pleased this game is on Steam, love it, thank you for releasing it.

Make sure to grab the Modpack from the Dark Omen fansite for a lot of great Campaigns. Between simple Army Replacements, Hard Mode which ♥♥♥♥♥ out 50 enemies each mission and a bunch of alternate Campaign pathings (i.e maps being sequenced differently + changed up deployment zones) there's a ton of replay-ability here. And I'm sure at some point in 2053 Olly will finish DOE2

If you want some nostalgia for the game you remember? Sure. If it's cheap enough. But otherwise? It just BARELY functions. Sometimes it can't set to the right resolution, sometimes the keyboard keybindings don't work, often there are VERY loud audio errors where you just get static instead of the proper sound file. It could have taken very little effort to make this a smooth experience, but that clearly wasn't what they were going for. They made it work on modern PCs. Barely.

Legendary classic think Total War Warhammer 3 but with a story and characters! I wouldn't quite call it the greatest voice acting and music of all time ;) - but it has stuck with me for almost 30 years! They don't make them like this anymore and I genuinely think there is a subgenre of RTS games here that needs to be rekindled. RTS with RPG elements, no base building or resource extraction to worry about -serious consequences for failure, story driven, characters, you make decisions about…

I remember watching my dad play this on the PS1 when I was young and him letting me have the day off school to help him complete it. We ran the end boss over with the tank if memory serves >.< I was just talking about this game the other day and how I wish it would get a remaster. My dad and brothers love the 40K universe. But me... this is where it's at. The nostalgia.

Dark Omen is the best PC wargame EVER. I replay it once in every 5-10 years and it only gets better with age. No other game came even close since. Recently bought it on GOG and went for another playthrough, and now I absolutely had to get it on Steam. This will be the third copy I own, including the original 1998 CD. It is THAT GOOD!

Always deploy as far back as possible, put your ranged units in a line down the middle and your melee units on the sides, use Grudgebringer Cavalry to pull enemies towards you then bail, mop up remaining enemies with melee units. Worked in 2000, works now

This game is an absolute classic. Think Total War Warhammer but you are a mercenary leader instead of a king. You recrute men and upgrade your units as you go on, choosing between more armour for your knights or your infantry. You choose missions which change which units you get to add to your army and the game has lots of variety in units, magic, and hidden war gear on the maps. Finished the whole game, 0 bugs or issues.

This game was my childhood and it's as brutally tough as I remember it to be. It's aged well, offers the player a repeatable tough but fair challenge and has monumentally better voice acting than many modern games too. Follow the community guides to get the graphical upgrades working and you'll really enjoy it!

That was a hazardous consultation of the Libre Mortis my Lord. An ordeal of high and low doom. The moment I approached the book, it bit me most ferociously. I must apologize for the explosion that blew off the door of The Chamber Unbreachable, but the simultaneous emergence of seventeen demons from the book spine, caused the spiritual detonation in the soul stoned air of the room. The whole enterprise was an experience most horrendous. None but I could have endured it. I was almost damned…

Warhammer: Dark Omen is a sequel to Warhammer: Shadow of the Hornet Rat. Both games have two things in common: you command unique regiments in battle and both games are hard. Don't be fooled by first missions the game gets progressively harder towards the end. This is about tactics and trying to rout enemy regiments. Except for pesky skeletons. This dudes never run away. A trip down memory lane for those of us old enough to have played in on PS1 - and a hell of a time for new players. Controls are janky (it was a RTS on PS1) and its been ported amazingly. Having said that, once you get use to them - they are not really janky at all. Campaign is difficult and even a seasoned player should expect to have to reload save to redo the mission you are on for a number of reasons. - you messed up and lost more units than you wanted to and want to buy armor…

I had a demo for this in 1998 where you have to defend a countess at a church. Loved it then, but never played the full game. Coming back to it almost 30 years later, it holds up great. When the cannon rips through a horde of undead and then rotten gore splashes out and individual zombies go flying, it's just as satisfying as any higher fidelity game I've played. I love the fully voice acted Medieval Zoom meetings, too. This game is so sincere in its presentation. Great voice actors and…

Charming in some ways. But: Very obnoxious control scheme. Overly harsh campaign that punishes losses severely, encouraging you to turtle almost every mission as much as possible which I find fairly boring. Button you have to spam to make units fight better, which I find horrifically annoying and cannot stand in RTS games. Good port I guess. Good if you've played it before and want to play it again on modern systems. If you've never touched this before I really don't think it holds up at all.

Rosebud.. This might have been first game which I bought and the original reason wasn't too rational but the cool cover box. I was too afraid + unqualified to play this with success and kinda forgot it firsthand, but then years after got back to it with an even then ancient computer and completed it, but 'boy did I struggle. This game is certainly oldschool - it is ruthless! Not much hand helding, the real-time controlling of your troops is always hectic and each unit you lose actually hurts.…

*Warhammer: Dark Omen (Classic)*, developed by Mindscape and published by SNEG, is a refined evolution of early real-time tactics design that successfully builds on the foundation laid by its predecessor while delivering a more cohesive and immersive experience. Set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe, it combines large-scale battlefield engagements with a persistent campaign structure, creating a game that feels both strategically demanding and narratively grounded. At the center of the…

Warhammer: Dark Omen is the sequal to Shadow of the Horned Rat (SOTHR). The Grudgebringers, once more lead by Commander Bernhardt, must adventure forth to save the world, this time from the accursed Undead! Warhammer Dark Omen is similar to its prequal, a single player campaign but with the small addition of a mini multiplayer mode for direct play, though if this is functional I am unsure as the settings seem designed for years ago. There are a few changes which have been made from the…
