negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tries to reinvent the wheel, but uses a triangle shaped one with a side missing because it went and bugged out. War Mongrels is a real-time stealth game in the same mould as Commandos and others alike. This take on the genre attempts to branch out more with it's mechanics to give a more action oriented experience but completely flops it while messing up on the stealth aspect too. Your battle is against Nazi Germany, but really your war is against some of the most dog-water, clunky, unintuitive…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is "Commandos" like but far, far away from it. There are some illogical things that only developers can understand. For example - second mission tells us that Manfred needs to secure the flank with MG 42 but no enemy comes out of that direction or - enemies know exactly where you are and sometimes they can see you trough fences, bushes and fixed objects, even on easiest difficulty. Manual save system does not work, i.e. you can not load game from your previous manual save. Very frustrating…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why do you design games this way? They're frustrating and have multiple difficult points that are difficult due to poor camera, or controls, or design choices. You have one climax, then another, and then some speed test at the end of the chapter for which none of your mechanics are designed. 63 Days is exactly the same. Learn from MiMiMi. They picked one thing to be great at and did that. You try to do three or four things, but none are very good. You clearly don't have the team to do three or…

unlabelledView post →This is overall a great game. Its closest kin is Mimimi Games's "Shadow Tactics". Nothing is new here apart from the settings. These are streamlined from old games like "Commandos 2", improving the intensity of combat and focusing on combining unique character's abilities, while abandoning features like inventory management. THE GOOD Beautiful graphics with details littered everywhere, especially on the French maps. A variety of combat settings, war zone, a concentration camp, French…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a real slap in the face of World War II history. The fact that the main characters in a Polish game are two "repentant Nazis" is an insult not to the Russians and the Soviets, but first and foremost to the Poles themselves and Poland, since the Poles were subjected to exactly the same genocidal policies as the Eastern Slavs of the USSR. Weren't they ashamed to make this story? 3.5 million ethnic Poles and about 3.5 million Polish Jews died in World War II due to the Nazis. And instead…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One bummer for all Commandos-like game fans has been the death of Mimimi Games. Shadow Tactics, Desperados, and Shadow Gambit. Like any junkie I have been in denial with how much time and money I have spent on these kind of games over the years. In the search for my next isometric stealth high I found War Mongrels. Now War Mongrels is fine. But it takes some getting used to. I found the controls at first to be off putting. Moving the camera is just unintuitive. I also found some of the ways…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A BUGGY MASTERPIECE BUT STILL A 10/10 IN MY BOOK I have been raised with the Commandos games and I spent years modding Commandos 2. I played the latest titles such as Shadow Tactics and Desperadoes from Mimimi games and I have to say those two were absolutely garbage specially Desperadoes 3. This game is literally Commandos with a really rich story line. You have millions of ways of finishing the level, if you raise the alarm it is not game over unlike Desperadoes and Shadow Tactics. To me…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The developers seem to support the foolish stereotypes about the Soviet army which saved Europe from fascism
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game. Ive been on the hunt for more teal-time tactics games since Shadow Tactics and Desperados 3(its a shame they shutdown). The WW2 setting is great. Love killing Nazis. The levels are quite big and the cast of characters(unique roles) are diverse. I enjoy spending around an hour or more per map planning routes and seeing what is possible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I grew up playing the Commandos Series, and I loved it dearly. The challenging missions and hours I was spending meticulously finishing a mission without raising an alarm were a completely joyful experience. War Mongrels not only revived all those childhood golden memories but also elevated them to another challenging level. And most importantly, a story! I care about story even more than graphics and gameplay, and oh my dear, the devs did a hell of a job depicting the dark side of WWII and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Limited in weapon choice in early missions; characters can't freely pick up dropped weapons. Completely killed my desire on wanting to continue playing this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe this game is good. Who knows. The tutorial is such hot garbage, at least on controller, that I'm not sure I will ever be able to push past it. Have launched the game a dozen times now and abandoned it every time because the tutorial is just plain bad. I've nearly thrown my Steam Deck across the room twice because of this garbage. If you see only a couple of minutes playtime, that's because I was mostly playing offline...went online for a couple of minutes now just so Steam would let…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →20 hours in and I made about 75% progress into the game. It's so easy for an RTT that is supposed to be a challenging and a hard puzzle to solve. I think that the developers made this game for console players, and that's one of the reasons why it is so easy especially for a PC player. The characters lack originality and diversity. Some of them have the same capabilities and their presence in the game is meaningless on a tactical level. The story is not interesting. Same clichés... same far…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hello? hello? hello? hello? hello? hello? hello? hello? why are arrow keys the default for camera movement? are we still pretending that the arrows keys are proper default movement keys? are we still living in the 90s? those arrow keys are so far away from my hand they might as well not exist. in fact, many people use keyboards without those keys at all. ugh and now I have to rebind all kinds of stuff and figure what I can bind what to just to make the game playable in the modern era with a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →kinda buggy and awkward. Good game though, if you can get past that. Got tired of playing around some of the awkwardness in near the end, so its a no for me. Examples: delay in character response, unintuitive pathfinding, snapping vision cones in a stealth game, guards know where you hide if caught but vision lost
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The controls might not be the most responsive, but the game looks good and has a unique - for an isometric stealth game - take on action. It features "combat mode" which lets players control characters as they would in a twin-stick shooter, albeit a rather primitive one. Nevertheless, unless you find it really enjoyable, it is probably best not to rely on it too much because enemies aren't really equipped to deal with it without ruining the atmosphere. Although they will sound alarms, it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fine game. I played 63 Days previous to this, although it's a newer game from the same people. I personally believe this one had a bit more flexibility with the controls, etc. However, you wouldn't think that in the very beginning, as some of the controls are very hard to master at first. Anyway, I enjoyed this game, and glad it was 12 chapters long.

unlabelledView post →War Mongrels is an isometric WW2 RTS that follows the story of deserters and partisans during the second wold war, namely in Poland and even in France. "I felt bonded to the guy.. this is how sharing suffering works on people." - Manfred Pros: The visuals totally match the atmosphere of a location a mission takes place in, for example missions in Poland are grim, depressing and oppressive with rubble all around showcasing the destruction while missions in France are vibrant and colorful…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high hopes for War Mongrels, but after completing the game, I can't recommend it in its current state. Here's why: 1. Clunky Controls: The controls are far from smooth. Simple tasks like picking up a corpse become frustrating when the character insists on aiming their gun instead. 2. Bugs: Random glitches, like thrown items becoming irretrievable, disrupt the flow of the game. 3. No Overall Map: The lack of an overall map makes it difficult to understand the boundaries of the playable…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels and plays amazing, it's better then the new Commandos (demo) try this game instead of that!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was fine. Enjoyable enough if you like the genre, but not near the top. Gets the basics mostly right, but was noticablity rigid with encounter approaches (unless you count going guns blazing flexibility) and polish was lacking which led to some frustrations with character actions/pathfinding. There is a story, but it's just used to bridge the missions, did not find it compelling. Also the animated style of the cutscenes didn't really match the seriousness of the tone they were…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Many people in the reviews complain about the controls, and I don’t argue with that; by default they’re quite inconvenient, but who’s stopping you from reassigning them? Overall, the game is quite controversial, especially in terms of history, but it is still first and foremost a game, not a textbook, and as for the gameplay, it is quite exciting, especially if you try to go through everything without unnecessary shooting

unlabelledView post →No. Controls are clunky, problems getting the characters to do what you intend them to do reliably and repeatedly. Very irritating having to reload the quick-save over and over because something that should be relatively simple to do in a game like this is very often not.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Coming from Shadow Tactics, Shadow Gambit, and Desperados 3, this is a great disappointment... but mainly because of game breaking bugs. I cannot progress because it wants me to play the mission in a specific way. FPS wise, it's very playable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game honestly, if you are a fan of this genre, shadow tactics, commandos or desperado, this is the game for you
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even on easy it's not easy, at all, and quite frustrating. I'm good at games, I can adapt to them and develop patience if it's needed. But even with all that the mechanics and just the way things need to be done are just ridiculous. I even asked for a refund. Which I rarely do! This game is SO bad i'm sorry but it is. I was excited to try it but very disappointed. Buy something else.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT : Review updated after completing the game , game completed on 'Normal' difficulty I grew up on Commandos 2 so this review will contain some bias but I would like to give a fair critique as I did find quite a few issues with this game. It seems like the devs made a 'love letter' to Commandos here and while not every gameplay change is a hit for me, overall this is the closest you will get to a proper Commandos sequel. I have completed the game now and while my review is generally…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who has played most of the major stealth strategy games, such as the Commandos series, Shadow Tactics, Sumerian Six, and Desperados III, I can say those games set the standard for controls, graphics, and gameplay. This game feels very similar to them. It still needs some optimization and a few quality of life features, such as a speed-up option, but overall it's a solid experience. I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a great stealth strategy game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm from Lithuania, so this gets a recomendation for an attempt to show, that nothing was ever simple, nor it is simple today.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pasted from the YouTube description: Make your mark in history – stand in the frontline of the second World War. Are you drawn to tactical games with dark, gripping narratives? War Mongrels is exactly what you’re looking for! The game blends intense adventure, stealth mechanics, and strategic depth, all set in the gritty backdrop of World War II.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been thinking for a long time how to write a review for this game. As a game, on its own, it's actually okay. As you already probably know from other reviews, it's quite buggy, and the UX is clunky at the least. But if you like the RTT genre, you're going to like it anyway. But that's not what concerns me for this review. You see, the game is one of multiple games on Steam now that tries to build up nationalist sentiment of a specific country, in this case, Poland. And I get it, Polish…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool game with Likeable characters, and a decent story set in WW2. Unfortunatly there feels to be some bugs, and wierdness with enemies movement and where they are looking, and some difficulties with trying to do things near other things. (Like trying to put a body in a bush where one of your heroes are) These issues can create alot of frustration, especially in challenge mode where you cannot save the game, and have to do everything over and over untill you get everything perfect.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm pretty sure I just hit a game breaking bug, not having abilities work as they should certainly adds to the challenge. Lots of reviews talking about how good the story is, I don't agree with that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mission 11 killed this game for me. The game went from a solid 8-9 to <5, not meant to be enjoyed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Commandos with a story, highly recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →These controls are GOD awful don't waste your money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →controls are awful
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is full of bugs the and devs don't care about the game anymore Achievements tracking is broken And some glitches in controls
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls are terrible!!! Who made this! Im the ux designer from web and app design. And what I have to say, You ALL SUC*S! You didn't see the problems with sterring, planning action, taking and dropping objects ect!? You broke this good game!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Discovered a random bug in asset placement in Mission 2 that prevents advancement in the game, posted a bug report in Steam discussion group and only realized that no one is playing or supporting the game any more. Developer has released a sequel. Even with the bundle discount the game is too expensive if there are serious bugs and no support. Very long term Steam gamer here. This was really disappointing because the game is otherwise quite good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game sucks balls
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →War mongrels looks like your typical Commandos/Desperados clone but it has some unique ideas. Hero skills are varied and it is a bit more action focused with its direct combat control and easy access for ammunition, as you can loot ammo from dead bodies. 12 missions are fun and provide a decent challenge. It has some minor bugs and controls can be a bit clunky at times but apart from that this is really solid real-time stealth tactics game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like playing Commandos, Desperado, Shadow Tactics etc.. this is for you.. different story line... similar mechanics, excellent game play
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game! like commandos or desperados! Love it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The control is overly complicated compared to other Commandos-like games. Too much actions, too much keys to control. It feels awkward to use the keyboard (for the actions) and mouse (for movement and camera) at the same time. The graphic is good though. Also optimization is great, save/load system works almost instantly. Have no comments regarding the story as I dropped the game after 1hr of playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →another piece of historic revisionism that tries to show off nazi elements and Polish Home Army allied to the Polish government-in-exile in London, British puppet government, as something worth talking about during WW2. Complete disregard for the key role of red army as liberators of Poland. Smears red army with some imaginary crimes. The whole game seems like neo fascist propaganda to me. On the gameplay side playing this after excellent Mimimi games is offensive. bought this for close to no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buggy and difficult controls. In Chapter 2, after blowing up the bridge, the game sends in a wave of like 20 soldiers all in a row, impossible to take down more than a few. I've watched videos of this same part, and there are only a handful of soldiers in the wave. Earlier, when I first took the machine gun nest, no one could see me. They just ran around like chickens with their heads cut off. So, between the bugs and the janky controls, I'm out. Too bad, as it had possibilities.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am very much the ideal target audience for this game. i'm a bog fan of mimimi games and the like. I love the concept of the game and the characters and narrative seem very engaging. The controls are a little unresponsive as others have mentioned but what really bugs me is the plant a bomb under the bridge level, where you man a machine gun and even on very easy level the enemy completely overwhelms manfred. Making a game impossibly difficult kills it for many players. What a shame!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love a good real time tactics games and I had a lot of fun with War Mongrels. I was mostly surprised by the presentation of the game, really good cutscenes and I liked the back and forth between the characters, It's a solid 7/10 because it's also a very buggy game. The AI is stupid as hell, but I guess that's part of the realism since we are dealing with Nazis after all. If you like the genre buy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →after playing nearly all the RTS + isometric genre, this is one of the most exciting games Ive come across. The missions are interesting, the maps are super detailed, the characters and their background stories as well as the cut scenes graphics and cinematics all exceptionally well done. The controls were a bit weird in the beginning, but like most other games, its best to map the keyboard to your preferences. I havent played Commandos : Origins yet, but Id place this game above most other RTS…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Somewhat clunkier and less polished than Mimimi's games. Might be worth your time if you like the genre, but not at full price. 6/10
