Voidtrain is a beautiful and atmospheric game with an interesting concept - a journey along the rails of its own narrative, starting from a simple handcar and gradually building up into a small train. On paper, it sounds like a perfect mix of survival, crafting, exploration, and mystery. In practice… it’s a ride that looks better than it plays. What’s Good: Unique and interesting concept, managing and upgrading a train in a mysterious void is genuinely refreshing. Charming atmosphere and…

I like this game, i wouldn't necessarily recommend it though..., it feels as though the main appeal of this game is supposed to be the comical story narration and funny animations. But the marketing sells you on the idea of gameplay thats similar to raft but on a train in the void. Sadly, that part of the game is rather quite lacking and a lot of things just feel rushed and as if they were pushed to deliver gameplay elements as a "minimal-viable product". There's a few things that bother me a…

Honestly chapter 3 feels like it was written by chat gpt. Begining of the game was nice and interesting but then it became so random and chaotic and not in a good sense. Ending is straight up blatant and feels more like developers just wanted to finish the game.

I don't usually write reviews, but because I bought this game at full price ($30) I felt the need that I should. The initial aesthetic and concept is really cool- I love the combination of Norse Mythos with the WW2 aesthetic (plus the rofleemos are very adorable!) and there's a lot of potential in this game. However playing it for a total of 10 hours now in a duo it becomes extremely repetitive very quickly. Gameplay: The gun creation/mod system is clunky, there is no variation in the…

This game can be compared to a cream-filled waffle roll. It looks fantastic on the shelf, you buy it, and the first bite is wonderful. But then you realize there’s only a tiny bit of cream at each end to impress you, while the entire middle of the roll is hollow. Almost every system in the game follows the same frustrating pattern: it has feature X, but it’s pointless because Y. Here’s what I mean: - It has weapon upgrades, but they’re pointless because once you pick up any rifle of any…

Disappointing, but with little flashes of brilliance that keep you playing. Voidtrain is a survival craft game without the open world that so many games rely on to extend content. It tries to make up for the fact that it's literally on rails with a more directed experience, but it fails to challenge the player in any way. In fact, Voidtrain actually seems like it's afraid to ask the player to take any risks or perform any game mechanics. It's worth mentioning that you don't have to do…

The "gameplay" is that you are "on rails" and you point a vacuum at floating garbage for 80 hours. It is "excruciatingly tedious" and I am obsessed with it. It's a "chill and Zen experience". My brain is off. My train is long. I am collecting wood in a purple dimension. I have never known such peace. 10/10

The only complaint I have about Void Train, is that I was strongly enticed into getting it by the prominent feature of a steam locomotive in the artwork, but the steam loco will eventually be obsolete and you'll wind up replacing it with a diesel. So, yeah, it's great.

If I had to sum up the first few hours: Lots of fun ideas, but no coherent design. Especially when it comes to pushing "optimal" gameplay closer to "fun" gameplay. Maybe it "gets good at 16 hours", but from what I've heard, it's about 24 hours long so I've already made it 25% through. Why do I say that: The core gameplay loop involves running your train between safe point like "stations", collecting resources. The balance seems to be designed for you moving between stations at a decent clip…

I wanted the game they advertised, unfortunately, it doesn't exist. The core game idea and execution is great, but its like they gave up after a month of development. There's about 3-5 hours of legitimately fun content, but then everything just repeats itself. The same generated island, the same 5 materials, the same two types of enemies in the exact same spots. Its like this game was made with the sole purpose of providing you enough content so that you pass the two hours steam refund…

It's a slog. At first, it feels like Raft but with better graphics...then the reality sets in: it's actually got less depth than Raft and takes longer for anything to happen. It becomes a repetitive grindfest leading up to a fairly "meh" conclusion. Long story short, it's a Raft clone but not a good one.

Voidtrain has an interesting premise: a survival game where you manage a train moving across another dimension inspired by Norse mythology, having gun fights with nazis as you improve your weapons and vehicle through every journey into the void. A rather cool premise that should make for a fun story & game. Instead it misunderstands its own assignment and has a tone that does not fit the premise. You're essentially a babysitter for some weird alien lizard babies, while almost every story…

This game is the definition of unsatisfying. So why am I giving it a positive review? I got ~40 hours out of it with my wife. Every system that's in the game is competently done. The shooting feels pretty good. The guns can be upgraded and rebuilt. The voice acting and narration is good, even if I found the humor of "You're going to smack it with a hammer" overused quite a bit. The visuals and sound are great. The animations for the rofleemos is great. I don't like that you aren't able to…

This game falls short of its potential. It feels more like a concept than a fully developed game, as if the developers haven’t quite figured out how to expand their ideas. The gameplay becomes repetitive very quickly, and from early on, there is little incentive to engage with the different mechanics. There are essentially three resources that matter, and once you’ve stockpiled enough of them, which happens quickly, gathering anything else feels pointless. At that point, the game becomes a…

Simply unfun. It's a beautiful game with a wonderful concept, but all of it's positive aspects end there. The combat is awful, the narrative is forced, and overall the game feels boring. I bought the game because I feel in love with the concept, I refunded the game because the concept alone could not save the game.

If you loved Raft, you'll love this. If you got bored with Raft, you'll get bored with this. It's literally Raft except it's a train flying through a void instead of a raft floating through an ocean. You occasionally stop and explore before getting back onto the vehicle. If anything this game is worse than Raft because you don't even have the freedom to choose your direction. You're literally on a rail. Also, the locations you stop at are painfully similar to the point that I'm pretty sure you…

Voidtrain is a very odd mix of things, and while I would tentatively recommend it, you should know what you're getting into before you buy. The overall gameplay loop is simple enough - operate a train that rides ethereal rails through a strange void-between-worlds, and gather materials along the way to upgrade and expand your train as you go. This sounded pretty interesting to me, which is why I decided to give the game a try. Now, there is a lot to like. The graphics are beautiful, the…

This is definitely neutral game recommendation as it really has a cool concept, but it incorporates a lot of simplistic mechanics and poor combat with bad AI and a limited "On rails" advancement system (see what i did there?). It isn't a bad game, but it stretches out what it does offer over a long period of time... I only have the hours I have because I started over with the updates. This is before it's 1.0 release, so I am hoping to see something incredible.

The survival/tech progression feels good as you get to the point where you have access to everything. Once you've unlocked everything, you no longer need any resources so half the game feels pointless. Problem is, if you aren't rushing through the game and leaving resources behind and are actually gathering everything as you go, you will hit that point 2/3rds of the way through the story. Then you are just slapping the afterburner and rushing to the next depot on repeat. Right about that time…

The developers took the concept of an open world survival crafting game and asked "What if we removed the open world?" You're doing all the same "collect driftwood and scrap metal to build water pumps to manage your survival meters" gameplay, except there's no exploration it's in service of. Your progress is literally on rails and it leaves you with no sense of agency. You're going to keep driving forward forever, there's no sense of exploration because it's just procedurally generated rocks…

Overall, it's decent it just doesn't quite come together in a way that justifies the length of the story. The writing itself is good, and the way that the gameplay loop is enhanced with progression does a lot to save the game. But eventually, for me it was towards the end of Chapter 2, the novelty wore off and the crafting/management systems didn't evolve enough to justify further improvements/expansions, for instance, just before I threw in the towel I unlocked the final engine and simply…

Finished the main progression (not the storyline, let others tell you about that because), I came here for the train. I love trains. This game doesn't do trains fantastically, but, for a broader audience this is fine. Getting to the train itself from the humble beginning that is a trolley with a "minigame" to push it is funny enough, and then get thrown into five different crafting benches that each require to be powered manually and individually with fuel class items. This is fine, you'd think…

I don't think I have anything unique to add here that other people have not already mentioned, so I'll keep it brief: The train building is fun and promising, but there is absolutely no depth to this game. You build your train, shoot some stuff, ride along in a single straight line, and then the game ends. It's fun for multiplayer, but that further trivializes the already shallow and simplistic mechanics. It's odd since the visuals are kind of amazing and the game loves to hint at this massive,…

Welp. Beat the game! Have no idea what happened. I want to like this game but, I can't recommend it. It's fun for the first few hours but, gets repetitive quickly. The story isn't coherent and it seems like the narrator agrees. For most of the game, you're tethered to a train gathering resources, so a game like that has to keep things interesting, and this game fails to do so. There's a lot of wasted potential. Good idea, but very bad execution Building a base on a moving train through the void sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, the game itself is a huge disappointment. We (my friends and I) went in with high expectations. The trailer and description promised a plot-driven co-op experience. In reality, there’s barely any story, and what exists progresses painfully slowly. The core issue is the gameplay loop: Leave depot → crawl forward at a slow speed → farm loot → reach depot → repeat. Don't get me started on the depots (rinse, repeat). I can't even recommend this on sale. Oh yeah if the train is moving any loose objects keep falling backwards on the train so during a chase you lose 3/4 of the loot anyway so its just a time waster. This game has a lot of concepts that are super interesting. The Rofleemos, the upgradable train, the void environments, and the general humor and whimsy of everything. That being said, the game is incredibly shallow. Each depot you stop at is a near copy of the one before it. This game had SO MUCH potential, and I was SO excited to start it... but I was so let down! I know I started with high expectations, but it just feels unfinished. The aesthetics of the game are all over the place. It's steampunk, it's soviet, it's... vikings? It feels like the design team gained a fascination for Norse mythology and needed to fit it in. The gameplay is too repetitive and ironically too linear and on rails since all you can do is keep moving forward until you get to a station that will progress the story, it would be better if you could pick which destination to go to and have a more varied type of stations you can go to. I'd probably recommend it. It's generally good. But giving it a pass personally due to some slightly cumbersome mechanics: crafting doesn't borrow from nearby storage (items must be on self), and the "fuel" mechanic. Also just too many clicks to craft items, on top of there also being an arbitrary countdown to the item to be ready (feel like I'm losing my patience with that mechanic, especially 😆) I'll definitely check back in a year or something. Awesome looking game otherwise.

Resources are divied out extremely slowly and in small amounts and you need metric tons of them, and the developers response to this is "you don't actually need to do any crafting or building to beat the game, you just go forward through all the story points, so thats why we felt the need to make resources so scarce." This game is unambiguously trying to emulate Raft, as many games in this genre do. So I'm going to just compare it to that. TLDR: Raft understood how to be actually fun with its choices in pacing and rewards and threats. This game does not, to a really wild degree. 1) A crucial choice in Raft, that no imitator has acknowledged or successfully carried over, is to let the early game be focused just on survival and building. There are almost no threats, and if there are they are easily dealt…

It's a wonderful delight. It's not the most groundbreaking in terms of gameplay, but so much of this game brings imagination back to video games in a way that's been largely lost in a sea of copy-paste styles. At its core, you could compare this game to Raft. You have similar premises in being upon a limited building space in the middle of an expanse, having to collect random bits of resources that go by, and even fending off an annoying void shark or six. Voidtrain is a fantastic game in a genre I rarely enjoy. Hypetrain Digital deftly weaves an intriguing, emotional story into a thoroughly enjoyable gameplay loop. It's launching into 1.0 on Xbox Game Pass, and it is well worth checking out solo or with friends. xboxera.com/2025/11/06/v...

Not a bad game but very repetitive and short, some of the story was funny and the narrator was a cool thing in the game. Limited customization to your train and no exploring at all really, a few places you could leave the train that were cool but overall i would only recommend this game for kids.

I'm conflicted on how to write this review. On one hand, the game is very satisfying and the story has moments that are extremely emotional. On the other, the ending is such an exceptional anti-climactic let down that it nearly eclipses the 24-hour long game time. There are also a few lulls and grindy moments as well. So...I mean, it a good time waster, but I felt actual depression after finishing the game because the ending was so bad...

I hate leaving a negative review just to give a warning for people that can get motion sickness…but this game (even turning off motion blur, head bobbing, camera shake) can make you nauseated if you’re prone to that…or even if you aren’t. Only 2 games in my life (before voidtrain) gave me motion sickness: Soul Reaver 2 and Sea of Thieves. This one did it in under 30 minutes. The tutorial at the start is like your character is a bobble head toy. When I finally got control it was still rough…

That game has given me a lot of fun. Thank you for that experience. I strongly recommend that game for fans of Raft and fans of not stressful survival games. But weapon feels strange. It's not comfortable to use for me. But the void, the sound effects and music, it makes meditative experience. Good story, pleasant humor and Rofleemo. See ya Engineers, do not forget your hammer

it was a great idea initially, writing was fun, mechanics were new and interesting, world building an scenarios were impressive, all of that for around 2 hours, then it became as boring as hell, I'm about to start act 3 but I cannot wait to finish it just to put it away and forget about it. the game is broken in every sense, the story doesn't make sense for the first 15 hours, by the time the big heart fell connection happens I was long gone, had lost all interest in paying attention, and the…

Nothing changed since early access it's just a sad loop of the same stuff. It still has game breaking and softlocking bugs to this day that have been reported YEARS ago. Just... don't man

Short game with a ton of character. The sense of humor may be a bit on the nose/juvenile, but if you're into that like I am, definitely check this one out. A bit of copy/paste in some spots, but there's enough diversity in the resources and recipes that it feels forgivable. Oh also, decorating your train and gun customization is a thumbs up.

a game with a few cool elements but ultimately something i do not recommend it started out okay, but then after a bit got actually decent with arenas being cool for the first 1-2 times and a train attack on ours which was pretty interesting at the moment it even has some nice visuals, cool atmosphere and some good music so i was actually enjoying it at that point but then as the game went on it just gradually got worse and worse... the game went on to have: a nonsensical story that…
