33 of 33 · most liked firstBasic Information Title: Vive le Roi Status: Released Developer: Sylvain Seccia Publisher: Meridian4 Genre: 2D Puzzle Platformer Release Date: 23rd of February, 2017 Type: Singleplayer General Impression Only a handful of Steam games focus on the French Revolution and none of them offer an alternate reality in which you might save Louis XVI of France from the guillotine. An indie developer sought to change that. I don’t know if the name “Sylvain Seccia” rings any bells to you but he’s…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vive Le Roi doesn’t pretend to be more than it is – It’s a puzzle platformer with a Limbo Like aesthetic where you have to solve a multi-step based puzzle to reach the end. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Gaj8rzgn9E Text: The puzzles get progressively more difficult and require more timing as you get further into the game. The game also runs smooth and has no bugs that I’ve encountered (which is good!) Sadly… This is all the game is as well. A Smooth-ish puzzle experience with…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trial and error with not too many options. You have to follow a certain sequence and then you succeed. There aren´t multiple way to approach one task. You have to follow just the one possible task. In certain maps you will fail simply because you don´t know the function of the environmental things you can use. Music is ok, graphics style, too. Lame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL:DR Puzzle game but purposely failing to see someone die in a silly manner. The Good Stuff ++Neat art design and graphics +Good old hide and seek and try to get to the other side to beat each level The Ok Stuff =Difficulty spike at Level 7 (30 levels total) =iOS style game, could be cheaper honestly but $4 is not a steal =Transitions between screens (Options, Main menu, Level select, etc.) are really clunky =I can understand the Game Art getting nominated for an award, I don't see how it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vive le Roi is like no other game I played before. It is a puzzle game that requires both ingenuiosity and precise timing. PROS:: Levels design very well thought out Well-balanced difficulty to get the 3 stars on each of the 30 levels Nice graphic art design with smooth animations, overall very polished CONS:: Repetitiveness in graphic art and music Lack of story or narration Lack of Steam achievement while it would be perfectly adapted to this game In conclusion I would recommend Vive le…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How can people review this positively? This is a boring, repetitive, shallow mobile game. At best. Yes, the visual art is nice. That is the *only* thing it has going for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a puzzle game, that doesn't require any creative puzzle solving skills, just tedious trail and error.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vive le Roi is a simple indie puzzle game of 30 levels with a bit of timing mechanics thrown in for good measure and it pulls that off nicely. I'll admit I was sometimes annoyed with the timing bit because it required perfection but that adds to the charm, without it it would be too simple and then it would actually be bad. The graphics are very nice and the background music completes the mood. Controls are simplistic but I don't think having the option of using keyboard instead of mouse would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →had this game as part of a game bundle i have too say 48mb download .. not seen a game this small since the nintendo days of old but its actually not bad the gameplay is very angry bird style with limbo mixed in i actually like it and the levels do get hard just a shame its so short graphics are ok basic but work good sound is quite good but repetitive mouse control is not bad but you can cheat loads by clicking miles away and the person will do all the work in one ..lol 30 levels…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mobile puzzle game pretty much. Definitely not as good as Limbo or Trine. Skip it or waste time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting stealth puzzle game. Not bad but not great.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vive le Roi is a 30 levels long mission to save the king from decapitation. You have to reach the king without getting noticed by guards. For completing every level one can receive one, two or three stars depending on number of mouse clicks. The graphics is Limbo alike, but since the action of the game is during night, it fits well. Animations of characters are well made, the animation of decapitation is perfect. But what at first appeared as a nice puzzle game quickly became a frustrating…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very shallow and boring game, feels more like a mobile game than a PC one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vive le Roi is a very entertaining puzzle game that demands both patience and precise timing in order to complete all the levels with 3 stars. The goal is very simple: save the king from being executed without alerting the guards. Although it's easier said than done because the difficulty increases with every level. The game is quite minimalistic both in its visual and sonic (there is only one background music track) aspects. But I think that minimalism is a very appropriate style in this case…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a 1440p and 1080wide monitor and I can not get this to work. I have tried various launch options and it refuses to open in any playable state. I can't even get it windowed. Useless, don't buy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like this game but I can't. The gameplay is simple, you click and your character move or interact with the clicked object. I also found it's a good idea to mix stealth game and puzzle. Graphics are simple but it's enough. The problem is the timing: often you only have less than an quarter second window to click somewhere. That in itelf could be manageable, but if you add to this that generally you need to calculate from a distance: for example, you need 5 seconds to reach the place.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is nice for a flash game on NewGrounds or for something to be played on your phone. As a PC game, i'm pretty sure my 10 yo nephew could do better granted someone give him the sprites to do so. Pros: + Decent graphics and animations. Cons: + It's a basic flash game with flash looking menus and controls + That 10 second music loop... It doesn't even loop properly and it will drive you crazy. + You can do only so much with such a basic concept
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible mobile game. Ugly, stupid, boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice game. Normally, I don't like 2d games but this game... Playing this game is very fun. You should buy and try it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple puzzle game with a good atmosphere. Check here some gameplay in 60Fps: https://gaming.youtube.com/watch?v=FpxYmtkHAIg&feature=share
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ another nice and great puzzle game idea ? U need a little high above-mid reaction time to enjoy the game + Fast and clear animations + Good Looking Graphics + Good music also - and it comes boring after a while doing one simple task and its just this ( END = never try this game again for years maybe?!)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vive le Roi has a simple objective: make sure the king does not make like a guillotine and head off. Controls are simple, however it can get difficult if you're going for 3 stars in each level. Well worth the price, especially on a sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple concept, but a fun puzzle game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun, simple, very nicely illustrated stealth puzzle game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BEST GAME EVER I RECOMMEND THIS GAME!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vive le Roi, which translates from French to mean ‘Long Live the King’, is a very aptly named game. Situated during the French Revolution, Developer Meridian4’s puzzle platformer has players set out to save King Louis XVI from his impending execution and thus alter the course of history. However, while the game does incorporate fresh elements, it does not truly separate itself from the multitude of other puzzle platformers on the market. The fact that there is only one way to sneak past the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review is taken from my original post at www.gamesfreezer.eu There aren’t too many games set during the French Revolution which sets this game apart from others of its ilk, it is also a port of a mobile game and although the stripped back gameplay does show its mobile roots, lovers of stealth puzzle games shouldn’t be put off as this is a solid little title. Can I save King Louis XVI? Will my knowledge of French history improve? Why did the executioner get offered the job when he…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since the 3 star mechanic is tied to getting the solution in the least clicks possible this game ends up being a lot of trying to perfectly time a walk to a far destination so you can get past an enemy and then get caught because you were a few seconds off and the sans-culotte saw your foot. It gets frustrating because you end up in a situation where you know how to finish the level but your starting position is far enough that your first move requires a lot of retries for timing. It's not a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frustrating timer based puzzles. Starting each level over and over and over while trying to figure out what you are supposed to do gets old real fast. This is not a puzzle game but a test of patience and frustration tolerance. Do you really want to spend your valuable free time this way? Go play [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/859530/Vive_le_Roi_2/]Vive Le Roi 2 instead. It looks the same but has completely different gameplay. That one is a fun puzzle game. Only recommended to people…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy. I cannot hit Play or Options when the game loads. I'm locked into the bottom left corner of the screen which gives me Credits, More Games, Quit, and then links to Socials like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Not worth any amount of money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think this is an inherently bad concept, but it just becomes a very frustrating experience where the negatives outweigh the positives due to a variety of issues I'll detail. This game, which looks like it was made originally with tablets in mind, is about sneaking around from point A to point B, with all interactions being based on contextual touches of the screen. You have no direct control of your character, just clicks for "go here" and/or "come to this thing to interact with it".…
