If you are a hardcore platformers fan, though, you may want to get this one while the discount lasts ;) By the way, Schein includes trading cards, although (as of writing this review) it doesn't say so on the Store Page.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's strange how things go sometimes. If you visit the store page for Schein on Steam you'll see logo after logo of award nominations and wins Schein has picked up over the course of its development. And it deserves them too, it's a great game, yet for some reason no one seems to be talking about it. It should by rights be an 'indie darling', but so far it's a lost gem Maybe part of the problem is that it's easily dismissed as yet another indie puzzle-platformer, a Braid-like. With simple…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this game any good? Yes, it is bloody awesome and bloody hard. I never liked games like this where you die a lot but this is somehow different. Switching between other worlds (dimensions, colors, whatever you want to call that) really get you into. You have to master your jumping skill and also use brain (a lot) and these two things combined create great game which is worth the price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UPDATE: Sorry, people, but I have to change my review. After spending several hours with it, I've decided the level design is too cumbersome and technical to merit a thumbs-up. I want to recommend this game; the graphics are amazing and the triplicate-art shows a level of devotion and attention to detail that most games don't have. Unfortunately, the puzzles eventually get very minute and annoying -- so much so that the game is no longer fun. I simply quit caring and stopped playing. Maybe…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of, I need to mention the pros about this game: - very nice design (the first thing that captured me about it) - the game mechanics are built upon a good idea I guess - the story is so-so. The protagonist is trying to find his son with the help of a fairy like being that generally converses with him on the way through a magical swamp. Other than that, it's not too clear what's happening. Now, the cons: - Though based upon a good idea, the game mechanics are not enjoyable. - The game…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this one!Schein meaning 'a shining', 'brightness' in Germen is a puzzle platform game. You use light to show paths and objectives and you run thru toggling the light on and off to get to the end or in this case doorway/portal.So plays good with memory and timing,The game is narrated kinda like Bastion or Spate if you have played or own them.It has good smooth animations and the music is quite pleasant and mood oriented. Its also won a lot of awards :) So if you are looking for a Puzzle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's kind of funny that Schein isn't the first puzzle platform game with a light gimmick that makes elements of the world appear and disappear that I've played. Fortunately, it's the best one of those that I've played, and a pretty good, if very challenging, platformer. Your character awakens in an appropriately dismal swamp, seeking his son. He soon finds a chatty little wisp that casts a magic light that can make special platforms and obstacles appear. Like Closure and other games that came…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Something between Limbo and Grimind . - didn't buy me - clumsy controls, distant checkpoints artificially prolonging the game. The only thing that saves this production is the story and the form in which it is told - there is a climate. After all, it's just a simple game in addition, clumsily sculpted; I would wait for promotions then you can try it. I will give it four stars - I did not like it, but I understand that it is not so weak to give it a paw down
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Schein is a neat puzzle platformer game focusing on using various light sources to warp reality to solve the puzzles in the game. I liked the fact that some of the puzzles are thinking based while others are reflex based. The game does not completely bogs itself down with a single type of puzzle over and over again; it alternates between these two types of puzzles to keep you interested to the game. You never feel any unnecessary repetion in the game. It has quite a good of an atmosphere. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An otherwise fun game, marred by the fact that you can't backtrack to pick up a collectible at the last checkpoint. Seriously detracts the game from a 9/10 to a 4/10.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The art and talent are there. The game is not. There are much better games that use this "alternate world in our world" mechanic. Sad to see such good animations, and great music go to waste just because they did not hire a game developer to help them make their artwork fun, interesting, and playable. A decent game designer could take all of thease assetts, and make a really great game from it. They basically used the default Unity 2.5d game rig (3d game with a fixed camera, so it plays in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Schein takes the platform genre and adds a neat unique twist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEYEv3TqB9g Most of the world is hidden from you as you explore this beautiful and gorgeously rendered world searching for your missing son. Along your way to meet a magical wisp that helps you peer into this unseen world. This is not an easy platform game and will challenge every player with every step. Are you wise enough to step up to the challenge to unveil new dimensions, defeat deadly beasts,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is hard, but for all the wrong reasons. Lots of blind jumps, you can't see the obstacles from the "other world" until it's right in your face. Blind jumps are a thing that stopped existing after the 16 bit era because game designers realized it was bad level design, but this game has tons of blind jumps. The fact that I can only see things from the other world in this small orb around the player makes the rest of the screen completely useless. There are vines with thorns that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cool puzzle platfomer! 8/10 Pros: 1. I thought the puzzling portion of this game was very, very good. Entertaining and made you think! 2. The art style was great. It fit well with the idea of the game. 3. Puzzles were well made and the introduction of 2 different lights made it even better 4. I didn't find much repetitious or recycled material, puzzle-wise Cons: 1. I highly disliked the platforming portion of the game. There was nothing wrong with the mechanics or anything. It was just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though the game itself might be not heavily polished, the design of its puzzles is absolutely gorgeous!

We debated the controversial calls from last week's games, talked through how the ESPN model works and what went into its views on each of those decisions. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s...
unlabelledView post →A cute game at its core, but it's essentially a jumping platformer that has been done a million times before. Nothing new to see here. 4/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Schein is a fun little platforming game. It reminds me of LIMBO with the dark gloomy shading. The difference is you have lights which, depending if they're on or not, show you different platforms and methods to get through the puzzles. They brighten the world and show how beautiful it really is through all the gloom.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend this game. Sadly! It looks great. I like the stile of the game. I also like the idea behind it. And I love platformers. But this game just have no flow. It plays very unintuitive, because the controlls reacts... strange... can't describe it. It also feels as the game was made for a smaller player character. You often die because ONE of your polygons hits a spike.... or another platforme... and so you fall into the swamp. The difficulty is not very high actually. You jump…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2D platformer. Spot on controls, nice color-play. If you think that there´s a bug: it is you. Kudos to the devs of this nice little gem. The voice acting of the main character is a little bit unmotivated - but fits to the emotional situation. Three colors of light that you gain successively throughout the game alter the world surrounding your avatar.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming little puzzler that does a lot of things right, but some wrong. In general the idea is that you manipulate light around you to reveal and mix different worlds so you can overcome obstacles. The concept works great and allows for some difficult brain twisters. The puzzles are challanging but also rewarding once you get past them. Graphics are decent, nothing impressive to me, in fact if anything I would say the game feels bit unpolished there but given its an indie game I'm not taking…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After Limbo release people were craving for more puzzle platformers. What's unique in this one is that you made kind of a bubble or spot where part of level is altered. In this area you see what's beyond the normal stage and you can use that to advance through the levels. Puzzles are straight forward and more focus is put on platforming part. On some rare occasion right timing and strategic jumping might be required. Music is nice in this one, but atmosphere of the game may not fit everyone's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok graphics and calming music. Voice acting is very good and story is interesting. The idea for game is very cool! There are many powers to get but game teaches you very well so it is not difficult to understand. Puzzles get harder when you go on but never impossible. It was lots of fun playing this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an excellent game! Long time i haven't seen such a good and intelligent game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really can’t stand the Adam Schein updates in this #Packers game. Or any game, really.
unlabelledView post →Platformer that you are meant to repeat many times. Some platforms or obstacles are only present with the right color light, which makes for some interesting puzzles. However, the field of vision is limited (both with and without the light) and in practice you have to die often to figure out where things are. Checkpoints are frequent, but I lost interest in repeating jump sequences.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story, interesting game concept using alternate dimension, good systems of checkpoints, responsive control and atmosphere are the pros of the game. On the other side are low variability of environment, lack of additional game content like character development and puzzles resulting in game being repetitive after some time and rather high difficulty. Because of it sad and dark atmosphere the game is not very suitable for kids. Pros: - Story - Game concept using alternate…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like Schein, but the excellent concept for this platformer was unfortunately overwhelmed by desperately poor voice acting, long and tedious platforming sequences with finicky tuning, and slow pacing overall. There is a ton of creativity in this game, and a lot of the artwork is stunning, but it just feels cumbersome (not fun) to grind my way from save point to save point. Precision timing is required to succeed, but not in a fun way. I don't regret picking this game up on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game got annoying fast. I got stuck on a couple of puzzles, and while trying to use a walkthrough I realize they must have changed the level design multiple times because everyone has a different ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Schein is a game that I recommend because: - is a method to banish boredom - it has a good price - it has trading cards - it is indie - it has action & adventure - it is a good puzzle game Enjoy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great puzzle platformer in a dark swamp setting. You carry different-colored lights, at most one of them can be active at a time, and they change the environment (what you can't see, can't hurt you -- but it also won't help you). The animations aren't that great and yes, there are platformers with better graphics, but the mechanics are great and so is the overall atmosphere. I highly recommend it if you like puzzle platformers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vanilla side scrolling platformer. When I altered the key bindings to do WASD and green light with Numpad enter key I encountered fatal bug where I couldn't progress. Have 'green light on' shows green plank but game interprets as though a green wall in the way so can't jump onto platform and can't go back - quite literally nowhere to go. Why would default key bindings have people crossing over their hands at such awkward position and then upon changing it to a standard form (WASD) it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful with very good graphics, cool puzzles and you have to accept that you're gonna die a few times!!kinda seems like eversion but not so much. I recomended for sure!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Schein" is a very good looking game with intense music and a beautiful and interesting landscape. Also the character is very good and you are very fast in the right mood for a good game with an interesting story. BUT!!! This game is just frustating... It is not possible to beat this game without a few hundred, or maybe thousand times dying. I beat the game to 50% and my deathcounter score is 452. There is no chance to make most of the the jumping passages in one run, without falling and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think Schein got a bit too much unfair criticism - note how many reviews complain about the precision platformer genre rather than the game itself. That being said, the game's not impressive: the aesthetic can leave a bit to be desired, the environments are all pretty samey (or consistent) and I agree that the voice acting could be better (even though it did add flavor to the game), to the point I couldn't help but laugh out loud at a specific line near the end. The story is concise and I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As other reviews have already said, this game basically requires pressing button combos (jumps / switching colors / lights) with very precise timing. Some of the early puzzles are fun but it quickly just turns into a repetitive stress injury waiting to happen. If you don't care about potentially getting a RSI and enjoy both logic puzzles and high difficulty revolving around precise timings, then it might be for you. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it to others tho. In addition, some of the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great indie game. + Simple storyline with few good twists. + Beautiful soundtrack. + Great platforming. + Great puzzles, there's actually quite a lot of puzzles in this game. + Greatly combines puzzles and platforming in one package. + Great voice acting. + Very unique and interesting graphics style, whole level design has 4 different dimensions or whatever you call them, even though all of them are mostly re-skins each looks great and a bit different, it feels very well done. + Collectables…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best puzzle/platform games... Very interesting and fun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Schein, while visually remotely resembling a blurry version of Braid, falls completely behind mechanically as a puzzle platforming game. It plays like Super Meat Boy without speed. You will keep dying and dying until you have memorized the outlay of all traps and will have to battle with the extremely limited jumping height and distance of the character model more often than actually having to find out what to do. Additionally the visible area of the different lights - the main mechanic of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I must admit that about halfway through the game I was already out of patience and ready to say bad things about this game and hoping it would end soon. Schein has some good ideas, the lights mechanic, some puzzles are really challenging, the battle against the last boss has a very interesting dynamics and the system to go back through the areas of the map to solve the puzzles. But everything in it, for some reason, became repetitive and tiring in such a fast way that it made the game lose its…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was okay at first, but it sorta degrades the further you get into it. Like the puzzles started out with some leeway, but that goes away too much as you play, and none of them felt very rewarding either. 5/10 Pick it up if you have nothing better to do.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game with interresting puzzles ! You deal with 3 lights and trust me , its not that easy ! I would recommend this game without hesitation ! 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great and fun small game. if you like good sound, puzzle platformer, then this is for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have to be honest, I do not play a lot of platformers. I recieved Schein as a random steam key, and said ♥♥♥♥ it. When i started the game I was a bit skeptical, but as I kept playing I really started to enjoy it. It strangel reminds me of playing portal in a quirky way. It is definetly worth the purchase.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this and it's not my sort of game to be honest. Though i will say it's a well made and nice looking game that will probably appeal to fans of platforming/jumping games .
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-Was an interesting game. -But not worth more than 2 Buggs!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is addictive. Especially for puzzle/platformer lovers. I really enjoyed the challenges this game offers. The thing I liked the most about this game is sometimes you have to be precise about timing when you are solving the puzzles. Pros: - Brilliant game mechanics - Good level design - Progressive difficulty on levels (except one or two parts, but it's no such a big deal) - Puzzles never repeat Cons: - Game ending, story-wise and gameplay-wise, is not original (Reminded me so much of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →---Bugs and Performance Problems--- I've ran into some serious performance problems with this game. First, the game crashes about 50% of the time when opening it. Second, the game suffers from some serious frame rate stuttering. This affects the control input, which causes me to fall and die frequently. Third, the sound has a strange echoing effect which seems as if it might be related to the frame rate issue. This issue even affects while you are navigating the menu while the game is paused.…
