Jimmy Stewart was good at playing goodie-good types, and then you see him in Vertigo and he's a total creep driven mad by obsession. It's fantastic.

unlabelledView post →Kudos to the Venice Film Festival for recognizing Kim Novak as "one of the most beloved icons of an entire era of Hollywood films." The 92 year old will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement — and a new documentary on her work in VERTIGO (1958) will premiere at the Festival. #FilmSky

With each cut, Spielberg and editor Verna Fields cut to successive close-ups of Brody, integrating his internal anxieties and focus in the form of the film itself.

VERTIGO. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF, he displayed great range. One of the best.🎥

I saw Vertigo for the first time today and there was a woman sitting next to me who was like in her 60s I think who kept making little barely audible asides to herself about the film and they were all incredibly funny and not distracting.

unlabelledView post →You can tell Bluesky needs more classic film peeps just by scrolling the answers! (observation, not a rebuke) By my standards Vertigo isn't even that old, but ignore the haters—on a big screen you have rarely seen anything so beautiful.

unlabelledView post →SPECIAL EFFECTS (1984) is Larry Cohen's VERTIGO, which is to say that it's masterpiece-adjacent, a sleazy, grindhouse exploitation flick that is home to some deeply disquieting ideas about object choice and male sexual jealousy. Schrader + William Lustig in a DePalma film starring Eric Bogosian.
