The Last Picture Show
High school seniors and best friends, Sonny and Duane, live in a dying Texas town. The handsome Duane is dating a local beauty, while Sonny is having an affair with the coach's wife. As graduation nears and both boys contemplate their futures, Duane eyes the army and Sonny takes over a local business. Each struggles to figure out if he can escape this dead-end town and build a better life somewhere else. From TMDB

Authentic portrait of dying small town America is infused with sadness. Absolutely stellar cast, one of cinema's best. Love! #filmsky 📽 Criterion Collection 549

In '87 came McMurtry's okay sequel & in '90 Bogdanovich put out a mediocre Texasville film. The best part was Jeff in Jockey y-fronts.

unlabelledView post →Latest read (audio), The Last Picture Show (1966) by Larry McMurtry; packs just as much emotional wallop as the film. Disillusioned, heartbroken, lonely characters trapped in an isolated, nowhere Texas town where life peaks by age 20. May not sound 'fun' but it's a terrific book. #BookSky

Another great role for Montgomery Clift

There's much here that's amazing, but I keep thinking about Burns drawing a scene (in B&W) from the movie THE LAST PICTURE SHOW while placing his own narrative on top of it. Great book.
