Imagine how well it would do if Regal advertised its classics. Best of all, half the audience were in their 20s, likely drawn by Hitchcock's name. Love to see that. #FilmSky

unlabelledView post →Raymond Chandler was, natch, a deliciously cynical, idiosyncratic and much copied novelist but he also co-wrote damn good screenplays including the magnificent Double Indemnity, The Blue Dahlia and Hitchcock’s terrific film of Patricia Highsmith’s debut thriller Strangers on a Train. Happy Birthday.

unlabelledView post →Made it to the start of the @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social Queer Hitchcock series. I’d seen Strangers on a Train multiple times before, but I’d never realized quite how funny it is until I enjoyed it with a big crowd. This moved it up several notches on my favorite Hitchcock list. (Walker is SO GOOD.)

The moment the carousel came to its calamitous halt, the entire packed-house erupted in cheers. See it big if you can.

unlabelledView post →#LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched Eclectic mix this week. First time for ‘Strangers on a Train’. Great film but not sure the grizzly murder at the fun fair was entirely appropriate for a Sunday lunchtime broadcast on the BBC 🤣 #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →It isn't really a one-take movie, there are obvious (though admittedly still smoothly edited) cuts when they move from room to room or objects suddenly fill up the view. But as the film The Celluloid Closet observed, "Trust Hitchcock to create not one but two gay villains" (ie Strangers on a Train).

unlabelledView post →Latest read (audio), Strangers on a Train (1950) by Patricia Highsmith; even without the significant changes from the Hitchcock film, changes that add more moral quandary, this would be worth the read for the exemplary writing. Highsmith perfectly demonstrates "show don't tell". #BookSky
