Worked steadily over the next 20 years, though many of her parts were uncredited. Foreign Correspondent (1940), Suspicion (1941).

Recommendable for its topical and witty script, remarkable set pieces, great cast of British, American and German character actors, and stunning cinematography by Rudolf Maté.

I vote for his sly international thriller Foreign Correspondent and his Kafkaesque doppelgänger film The Wrong Man, both brilliant.

He came to Hollywood in 1940 & received 2 Best Picture Oscar noms that year for this & REBECCA. #filmsky 📽 Criterion Collection 696
positive · AI labelView post →As we check out Alfred Hitchcock’s films, I was astounded when I watched Foreign Correspondent last night. WHEW! For a film released in 1940, it is an adventure film full of real special effects that would put recent movies to shame. I put it in my top 5 Hitchcock films.
positive · AI labelView post →I don’t know if it’s the best Hitchcock film, but it’s absolutely the *most* Hitchcock film. So many of his movies—39 Steps, Foreign Correspondent, Saboteur, Man Who Knew (both versions) are leading up to this.
neutral · AI labelView post →Foreign Correspondent, released in 1940. The film tapped the trademark genre elements by which he had made a name for himself in his home country. Foreign Correspondent, meanwhile, all but predicted where the director would head in the coming decades.

unlabelledView post →A Good Thing: I watched Hitchcock’s Foreign Correspondent for the first time this past weekend and by golly is that a firecracker of a film. Pretty much perfect in my estimation. And maybe it’s the Joel McCrea factor, but it felt like how Preston Sturges would have made a thriller. Just phenomenal.
