60 of 90 · most liked firstA pretty great homage to Old Boy. From the style to the brutal and nearly hopeless fights you have to overcome. You immediately feel immersed in the world. The game looks and sounds great! The fighting is messy and challenging as it should be. The fights feel great! You really have to watch out for all enemies, not just the bosses and even when you think you are ahead in a fight it can quickly turn and you will be fighting for your life. Also the enemy density, while at first overwhelming,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Target Audience: Those who really want a linear beat em up with references. Really Summary: Look, I try to be understanding of the fact that small indie teams may not have the resources or the knowledge to fully pull off their vision. It's admirable, and sometimes it doesn't come together, and this is definitely the case for Vengeance of Mr. Peppermint. The repetitive gameplay without the movement in the vertical direction gets old very quickly with repeated enemies. The combos help,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finally finished it. But I'm sorry, I have to give my first "Not Recommended" review. My reasons are: 1. Long, repetitive fights with countless same-y enemies, 2. Oh so little items to use, many are one-time use item/weapons, when so many enemies use weapons to kick our ass, and we cant even use their weapons when we defeated them. And I know we can get healing when we are on "Vengeance" status but what if we don't have enemies to beat to collect the Vengeance bar? Please devs, think about…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game for a few hours. It reminds me of the Old Boy movie. Action is good and control works like what I wish. I strongly recommend this game if you like action games. What I want is for this game to need more language support.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just to be clear, I don't dislike this game, but I don't think I could recommend it to a friend. It has a nice pixel art style, but that's about it. The gameplay feels clunky, with some enemies being useless while others can stunlock you with endless knife-throwing skills. With more polished combat, this could have been a great game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished the game, got all achievements despite not having fun - that's on me. This is a game centered around fighting and that part felt terrible. Sluggiish and slow, enenmies have unnecessarily high HP (especially the spear dudes). They jump out of frame, "camera" couldn't decide where it should be, input was off and so on. Fatalities were fun - at least for the first time. After that they became just annoying because they take so long, but are still the best / fastest way to take down most…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a big fan of brawlers and while this one looks good and has some great pixel gore, everything about how it plays feels amateurish. * The controls are laggy and unresponsive and can't hold up against even the simple combo system present here. * You'll fight endless waves and the same handful of mobs over and over again, with the occasional boss who is exempt from all the limitations the game taught you up until that point. * Oftentimes, the number of enemies will be so large that you have…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes,but Id love to see a few improvements. im not a fan of enemy going out on one side coming back from the other. this by far is the biggest issue. id love to see a difference in combos of light and heavy attacks. both look the same. also to pick up stuff and use it for a bit, not just vs a single enemy. game is fun,but will become VERY repetetive, quickly. i like the blood, looks nice.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8.5/10 This is a beat em up, most beat em ups are repetitive without progession or combos. I really don't understand why people are hitting this game so hard about that aspect. The story is good (albeit old boy-ish), it oozes with style, with fluid animation, no glitches, and it's fun to do different combos to fill up your Vengeance meter (which also restores your health). I highly recommend this for beat em up fans. Recommendations: I Am the Hero, Ninja warriors,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Long, repetitive fights with countless same enemies,
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those were you wish you could give a middle thumb. Game is fun at times, the combat can be quite satisfying when you have a streak going. However, once you figure out the 2 main combos that will get you easy kills, you will simply spam those over and over. Also, for a beat em up, blocking and parrying seems to be completely worthless, which is quite disappointing. The fighting can be extremely floaty as well, with your character sometimes punching the air in front of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. I quite enjoyed the movies it’s paying homage to, but as a game, it has far too little meat on its bones, and the staggering lack of variety really kills whatever momentum it may have been able to pick up. You fight the same enemies, doing the same finishers, pressing the same buttons. Over and over again. And that’s Vengeance of Mr. Peppermint in a nutshell. A good idea wrapped in pretty pixel art, but executed rather poorly – I’m not saying it’s a terrible…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not currently recommend. Needs more time in the oven. First thing I noticed was "jeez, these tutorial messages hang around way too long". Second thing I noticed was "Why can I punch an enemy against the wall and they teleport to the other side of the screen?" Slow style over substance game, but the style isn't there yet either. Limited combos for specific effects and a fairly small goon pool means dodge rolls, pounding dudes until you stagger one and grab/rush with them is the name of the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah yes. An Estonian video game that's based on a Korean movie that's based on a Japanese manga. Funny. The title is an amalgamation of two Korean movie titles, Peppermint Candy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, all while the game is heavily inspired by Oldboy. It's like calling your John Wick game Diehard Taxi Driver, and I also find the Mr. Peppermint name more fitting to the My Little Pony adaptation, but I digress. With slow movement and delayed attacks combat feels very heavy, and despite…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. I'm a huge fan foreign martial arts/action thriller films like The Raid and Oldboy, the latter of which this game is clearly derivative of, as well as other Korean action thriller films, so I was super excited when I heard about this game. Unfortunately, it did not shape up to my expectations in the slightest. The combat is fun for maybe 15-30 minutes but after that you've seen all there is to see and the rest of the game is painfully samey. The boss fights…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the second game, next to Skinny and Franko FoV, that I was waiting for and I was not disappointed. Both are fighting games, although very different, they have one thing in common: they are innovative and redefine the genre anew. First things first. The plot is a drugged vision of a certain detective, and that's enough. Intriguing. The combat system seems simple, but you need to learn how to play to use its potential. There are simple blows, combos, and blows using elements of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Vengeance of Mr. Peppermint" is a gripping game that immerses you in a dark world of crime and retribution. Playing as Mr. Peppermint, a detective seeking vengeance for his sister's murder, you'll engage in brutal combat with a variety of weapons. The game's pixel art style adds to its unique charm, creating a dark and gritty atmosphere that complements the intense narrative. While it's not for the faint of heart, if you enjoy challenging beat-'em-ups and a story that explores the depths of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of Park Chan-wook's The Vengeance Trilogy, especially Oldboy, I was immediately drawn to this game upon discovering its existence. Unfortunately, it does not at all live up to my expectations. The gameplay is incredibly monotonous and the fighting never really evolves over the course of the 3-4 hour campaign. Same combos available from the start, so you use what works, and don't use anything else because there's no point, and no new moves unlocked either. I will say that the finishers…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just play Street of Rage 4 instead, or Double Dragon 2, or even Kung Fu Master on NES if you wish to feel something when you hit an enemy, or control an avatar that's not slower than 90% of the enemies, or fight bosses that aren't boring AF...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels boring an repetitive within the first 5-10 minutes of playing. There is not enough fun and engaging game play to make this game worth it's high price point. While they implemented different combos to fight with, there is really no point to using them. With the shortest and easiest combo, you can stun the enemy, then do a finisher, which is not only an instant kill but also makes you invulnerable. The boss fights can all be beaten the same way, with a simple roll, heavy punch,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is boring. Not much variety with attacks and enemies. The worst beat-em up I've played so far. I regret not being able to refund this terrible game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game but it was lacking that feel good satisfaction you get from beat em ups when you land hits and combos. Gameplay wise it had the weighted feel of when you land heavy attacks but special enemies rarely react or flinch at all to the attacks. It's not a bad game just not for me. The story was pretty decent, some references sprinkled throughout I was excited to see. Mr. Pink modeled after one of my favorite anime character Lupin The Third was dope to see in there. Overall…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute oldboy homage for an evening, recommended if you are looking for a short and stylish beat-em-up
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice ode to Old Boy. Clearly a Korean game which the movie also hails from. I like the concept, but there is not enough variation in combos and the controls are realllly clunky. It isn't too punishing, so it is still enjoyable, though it will get old quite fast. Get at a discount. I hope the next game with this developer really excels as they have a lot of potential!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like the art style and some of the gameplay but the control are not responsive enough for my liking comparing to others like street of rage 4 for example and more variation on basic goon could be added . I would say try it if you like it keep it you have a good 2hrs try with steam policy to see if the game is for you sadly not for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great game, but not worth it buying this game at full price
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Literally just Old Boy
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The combat is clunky, even trying to pull off a basic combo pushes the enemy away before it can completely connect. Doesn't help that most of your starting moves don't let you move at least a pixel forward to hit them, kneecapping your reach by a mile. Translation errors followed by very messy storytelling don't do the poor gameplay any favors either. Some other reviews have said it and it continues to be true; the buttons sometimes just don't want to respond. There's a dozen more things I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a must-try for anyone who loves fighting games and pixel art, feeling the spirit of classic
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really wanted to like and support this game. Fighting gameplay is unfortunately worst I've seen in side-scroller game. It feels like playing very early demo that only has movement.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked it at first. I love the aesthetic and the soundtrack slaps. But there's bugs and things get real repetitive. Each enemy type has the same texture and use the same attack. Lim (the main char.) uses the same finishing move on each enemy. The bat execution is quick and simple, the others take longer to finish. THERES NO DIALOGUE SKIP! if you cant woop the boss you're gonna have to spam A for the rematch. I started A spamming all the dialogue out of frustration. The combat is bad. Lim's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am still planning to finish the game, to see if my opinion of this game changes but as for where it stands: It's not the greatest... Update: I couldn't push through it. I wish I didn't meander to get a refund. When I first saw the trailer and read the premise of the this game, I was super stoked! It seemed so camp and nostalgic to other commenters- although, I don't know what it's paying homage to. So by itself, Vengeance of Mr. Peppermint isn't that great in the story telling or fighting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So there is making of a good game here. Overall its pretty decent but there are two glaring problem. 1) The amount of enemies you have to deal with at one time 2) this is the biggest. The Mr. Pink Fight (2nd Boss) you have to fight Mr. Pink in a small area, with 10 plus enemies. He can also shoot you at random from a distance and if you get close. He rolls away, 100% the hardest boss in the game. If you can get past those two things, you will like this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little rough around the edges, but the combat is satisfyingly hard (not impossible). The skill floor is low and the ceiling pretty high, and the changes in the story based off a few decisions you can make give the game a bit of replay value. I've played through twice and gotten the good/bad endings and had a great time for both runs. Overall I would recommend for both the story and gameplay. A couple of notes: 1. My xbox controller worked just fine using the d-pad to navigate menus. 2. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: Fluid animations Interesting minimalist story Good music and art Cons: Short for the money (3 hours) Controls can be janky at times (facing wrong enemy, punching air, combos don't trigger) As a rare story-driven beat-em up I recommend it. If you're worried about the length or some glitches, wait for a sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classy beat 'em up. Not good not terrible. I quite enjoyed it, but coulde've used more combos and versatility. Good story though.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite a good game and nice story, although id wish they would fix the crashes on mac, genuily exited for the future of this game and its development, love the story and artstyle, not enough good beatemups these days

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pretty cool indie game with some cool dialogue and details. its pretty ideal for a beat um up game. executions are pretty cool boss fights are interesting over all games pretty damn good 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game's got a real charm as a beat 'em up, but heads up, it's got a few glitches and feels a bit unpolished in places. If you're into some good old gore and a decent story, you'll probably like it. My advice? Grab it on sale – it's a good deal for anyone who digs simpler beat 'em ups. And honestly, I'm kinda excited to see what the game's creator comes up with next.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked the map design and character diversity. Soundtracks and interactions are fine too. There are combos but they are kind of useless to be honest. You just gotta click randomly at some point which i didn't like it. I would rather playing more strategical. Gameplay is repetative but you don't get bored because the story is not that long. There are some problems about language too. It didn't feel natural reading the texts. When it's on sale, i recommend buying it, overall worth…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This action game combines the nostalgic charm of classic gaming with a modern twist. While it still needs a few refinements to reach its full potential, it's an enjoyable trip down memory lane. The retro graphics and gameplay mechanics are a delightful throwback, but there's room for improvement in terms of controls and difficulty balancing. Despite these minor issues, it's clear that the developers have a passion for this project. With some fine-tuning, this game has the potential to become a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game for a en evening if you're not seeking something too complicated, but still fun :) Reminds me of an old beat'em'ups but with more BRUUUUTAL punches and some unexpected plot-twists. Truly speaking after a section with a butcher I'd started feeling hungry XD
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think I can recommend this game. It's stylish, and the inspiration/respect for Korean noir and action films is clear to see. Unfortunately the game doesn't play very well, it's stiff and the controls aren't super responsive, the combat is clunky and, while not difficult, takes a really long time. Room after room of well dressed blood-bags waiting to have the tar beaten out of them with the same combo and the same finisher that takes way too long. Notice by my playtime it's not a long…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It looks fun, but it's really not. TL;dr 3/10 It took me 2.4 hours to beat the game. It doesn't really feel worth those 2 hours. It feels like a newgrounds game with a price tag. Not in a good way. The entire game is, Run right, fight goons keep running right, fight more goons. There's no progression you don't feel like you learn any new ways to fight it's just mash the bread and butter combo and use the finisher when it comes up. Not for any reward, but to kill the enemies faster. The…
