60 of 60 · most liked firstBugs, poor combat, tedious gameplay and some awful design mar what could have been an exciting and moving experience. This review contains no story spoilers. Intro No Place for Bravery sees you take up the role of Thorn, a grizzled warrior turned tavern owner who, ten years after the kidnapping of his daughter, Leaf, by an unknown warlock, stumbles on the chance to rescue her ten years later. Thorn will wander a war-torn world, slicing through hordes of enemies in his quest. You'll run into…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid 8 out of 10 from me (Not GotY, but definitely in the top 10 of the year that I've played) Personally I enjoyed my time with it if you couldn't tell - but it may not be everyone's cup of tea. (I love that I can adjust the difficulty I want to play with at a very granular level, and the game gives me a lot of freedom when it comes to how I approach it) Some things the game does exceptionally well - - The combat is exceptionally well paced, with only the hammer feeling slightly sluggish…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL:DR - I refunded this game very quickly. Since the devs are from the city I'm living and I playtested early alpha versions of it, I was hpoping that the finished product would feel enjoyable, but there are way too many bad parts for me. Positive Points - The atmosphere is really good, the environemt illustrations and assets are very visually appealing, bringing a fresh look to the legacy Hyperlight Drifter left in our time. - Characters are interesting to look at, taking advantage of their…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will be honest: I do not like Soulslike games. so No Place for Bravery got me off guard I wasn't expecting so much fun in it. The story is great, it have a lot of elements of doom and decay that we must face early on. The fast paced combat makes us immerse ourselves in the challenge presented. From time to time I caught myself having to pause after a hard won battle just to celebrate I got away with this new tactic I had just imagined on the heat of the battle. But the art... well, the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The pixel art is beautifully rendered. The soundtrack is urgent and primal. The combat is fluid and rewarding. Enemies are difficult to beat but always fair. I love everything about this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNCZjuqDLZ8
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Target Audience: Deliberate Combat Fans, Those wanting a journey Summary: No Place For Bravery is a game that I enjoyed despite running into a bug or two that caused me not to finish before release time (they have been fixed). It's a game that's going to be compared a lot to Dark Souls due to SEO: but the game is its own thing. There's deliberate combat that focuses on positioning rather then an over-reliance on dodge rolling and dodge/block type actions. Putting your self in the right…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Art, music, atmosphere all really cool, but the combat is slow and janky. Hitboxes seldom line up with the enemy attacks, often leaving you wondering why you avoided taking damage, or why you took damage. Most combat instances seem intent on being as irritating as possible by just pelting you with arrows while the melee enemies mindlessly walk towards you to attack. Game could be great, but the combat needs a complete overhaul as currently it does nothing special, and instead does the bare…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is good and the story touches, but there is a niche to it. Gamers, as usual, don't understand that and, as usual, go full entitled mode to give it a so deserved thumbs down. My RGB bruddas, please listen to me, if something isn't for you, if you didn't manage to like certain aspect of it's DESIGN, don't ruin it's score just because something didn't click for you, this discourages creativity, this discourages exploration, this is a silly and easy thing to avoid that could be the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What could have been a great spiritual and visual successor to HLD, with a developed main character who has motivation, instead turned into a buggy souls-like mess. I really like the art style, the music is amazing, and the enemy design is great. The combat, however, is not fluid enough to actually enable players to be effective. Additionally, the hitboxes for some enemies and certain platforming portions is way off and leads to enemies hitting you before their animation is even half way…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only good thing about the game is the pixel art. Combat is a huge mess, take the IM YOU BUT STRONGER first boss as an example, imagine Sekiro but you get stagger if you even hit them twice if they have their shield on which is 70% of the time and you have to parry the boss atleast 20 times to even get it staggered. So you are incentivized to just sit there and press the parry button for 20 times before even getting to hit him for 10% of his hp. The boss also doesnt get stronger or any new…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It saddens me to give this game a Thumbs Down. I fell hard for No Place for Bravery. I loved the animated trailer, I really liked the world building and character designs and at first I was so into that I even did a bit of fan art for it. BUT soon the bread and butter of the game, which is the combat, just got very dull for me. It just didn't feel rewarding enough to continue. I decided to call it quits in time to grab a refund. Perhaps when it goes on a deeper sale, I may revisit it, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved how this game was styled and the story was alright. But I've had issues with the achievements not working for me and with the combat and platforming how it is, made me a bit flustered with the game a bit. I got it this game when it was new so maybe the bugs have been fixed. If there has been a patch for it I would recommend a play through. But going by my 35hrs on it and not picking it back up after I beat it I cant give it a thumbs up.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lol why the hate on this one? I played it for like 15 minutes before I realized it was a fine game. NO bugs encountered here. Is it difficult? Yes, but like, LEARN HOW TO PLAY. It's a typical action/adventure RPG. Not only are there three difficulty settings (did you notice that fools?), the visuals are excellent and it comes with extra violence. Yay. I dig it. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was one of my most anticipated indie games of the year. I loved the trailers, the combat looked cool and the game just looked amazing with the pixel art. However when you get into the game it is a massive letdown. The biggest reason is because everything feels cheap, all the animations look kinda weird like the dodge roll looks super goofy, and your characters attacks feel really floaty and awkward. the story isn't really that interesting either, your daughter gets taken and you have to go…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I couldn't get too far because the pixel art, while gorgeous, mixed in with the level design so much that it made it hard to advance any further than I did. Gameplay was nice though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game. with a good and very challenging combat. the art style and sound are perfect. just ignore the negative reviews, buy this game and experience this amazing hidden gem
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is a delight to behold, the art is fantastic, the combat fun, the world has grabbed me(world design/building is my jam), and the music- the music keeps blowing me away. The sheer scope of the world, the scale of things had me just stop and stare in awe.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a pc game go play it on switch
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played 1h, looks great, good ambiance and all. As of today no cloud saves (pc + steam deck here) nor ultrawide support so refunded. Looking forward to rebuying when those are in :) It's a recommend otherwise
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It honestly feels broken right now. And developers announced they're temporarily pausing support... In 2024. It's weird as no other reviews mention it, but right now there's minute long black screens when loading into the game. And the game freezes for almost a second when you're being attacked, or try to execute a combo. It feels unplayable. The only similar experience I've had was due to super aggressive DRM that would need to call home every time you clicked. The trailer plays around with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MY TOPIC-BASED REVIEW - NO PLACE FOR BRAVERY WHAT I LIKED: Presentation: +The pixel visuals are hand-craftedly good, with nice animations and details +The scenery is absurdly detailed, well designed and has many different places to see +Several landmarks are really big in scope and span multiple screens, such as a huge sword placed unto the ground or monstrous skeleton-based locations +The game is not shy in regards to gore, for those who like it. The finishing moves in particular are quite…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm actually gonna refund this game cause like the combat feel like dog water :_:
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently playing on the hardest difficultly. Its a darn good challenge, I have never played a game were archers are the most devastating enemy. Combat is smooth, plenty of items for various play styles. Find your bravery and play this
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a story to tell and will do though a very violent world, because that what this game came to tell, what violence does to people. Has good mechanics, gets better when you have more tools, but the health/stamina/posture system holds itself alone, and the parries are crunchy and satisfying. Got 8 hours of gameplay playing on normal, didn't get everything because at some point i was more engrossed with the story to the point I wanted to know what happened next.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice story, cool mechanics, one of the best pixel art. Recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nice game with an interesting story. the accessibility option are a nice addition to the game, so that everyone can enjoy the story. the only minus point is the platforming part but it is not a deal breaker in my opinion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PLAY THE DEMO. IT`s AWESOME
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't play more, i'm sorry :( The pixel art is gorgeous and the OST is incredible but the platforming (uneccesary and annoying) and the gameplay are awful. I'm stopping here for now, waiting for patch maybe ? EDIT : Played the game in easy mode. Finished soon. I like difficult game but not like this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game length is too short with a lack of enemy variety. Also, I ran into a major glitch that caused me to restart the game from a save very early in the story. So that really frustrated me. There were times enemies where invisible but I could execute them so that was another glitch. Finished the game but didn't find the ending very enjoyable. Was looking forward to this game but this is gotta be one of the worst games I've played this year so far. The graphics are gorgeous but there is no…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →love the combat system ! it's like a mix of sekiro and darksouls but with a 2d pixelated twist ! art style is good , but they way screen moves make me a little dizzy when i play. in general , great game !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm liking it. The combat feels good, the animations are satisfying. I wish the parry was a little more definitive, it can be hard to tell if you're doing it right. I like fighting enemies and farming. Overall an epic game.

unlabelledView post →The game mechanics are feeling smooth, and satisfying as I execute my opponents mid battle while arrows pass by me! The puzzles, story, and even the choices that are prompted through my quests have been fun. I'm really drawn in and appreciate the quality of the pixel art as well. I can't wait to get further into the game and explore more of the world.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →right know? a piece of ♥♥♥♥ game. ive seen bugged games but this is just ridiculous
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoying it so far needs a little more clarity on what to do in some areas but not bad
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like it but the game crashes to desktop on the first boss fight every time I attempt it. The art style and music is great though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I kept playing to see the "souls like" gameplay and there isn't. So I tried to play for the story and it's boring as ♥♥♥♥. Looks like the character is talking to himself because the answers of the other characters are so bad and everyone has the same personality, that is none. No charisma. I didn't experienced bugs, but it seems the game is not finished. Need some fine touches. And a lot of gameplay it's just frustrating. You want to teleporto to that bonefire? Ok, but I won't put you BESIDE…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is truly amazing, playing it slowly to enjoy all the details. From the art to the soundtrack and all the gameplay mechanics, everything is very well-crafted. This game is really excellent, deserving to be among the best.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An awesome game, even quite relaxing. The music is involving and the story keeps you in the flow. It won’t give endless texts that you must read and become tiring, the story flows in a perfect way, so you understand well what is going on, what is next and still keeps you intrigued of what is coming next. While playing the game, it is easy to understand and everything seems so natural and intuitive that it seems you have been playing the game since a long time. The gameplay flows in a great…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good gameplay combined with beautiful pixel art. I highly recommend it for playing on Steam Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Archers suck! But story is kind of compelling. Takes a little while to rev up but overall pretty cool.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No Place for Bravery on the surface level is a Souls-like with a great looking coat of 2D paint. It’s also a game that begs you to look beyond the surface as it explores themes in letting go and giving the power of choice back to players. Glitch Factory has delivered a heartfelt adventure that looks great and is fun to play. The difficulty may chase some away, but fan of the genre or not, anyone with a few hours to kill will find something to love about it. Full Review:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wonderful OST, pixel art and soulslike gameplay. Great world building and a story that is only brought down by player choices, which, given the type of story being told, are unnecessary, and simple cutscenes would do. Eventually, the true ending illuminates the choices you've made or did not make in a different light, but the slight "ah ha" feeling you get isn't worth the feeling of having several false choices that lead to dead ends (story-wise). Having false choices is worse in my opinion…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute banger viking soundtrack, really cool environment & characters, slow paced combat which I liked but I can see why people wouldn't (have to be able to parry). Overall I liked it but it could have been a lot better in terms of gameplay & exploration. It's kind of open world but the world is small and you don't have a whole lot of reason to backtrack, plus your character moves super slow. If you play it as a cinematic experience and take in the story, and enjoy slow paced tactical…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly great game. This is a really fun, (mostly) linear, adventure game. I gave it a chance and 7 hours in I'm sucked in. I'm invested into the story, the combat is fun and balanced, and I accidentally got the first "bad" ending by choosing to end the adventure and work things out with my wife and the bar. I thought that was a fun little touch. Really underrated game that I never really heard of. There's even some puzzle elements to some of the areas (a "lost forest" sort of puzzle where…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still some bugs to be fixed, like ennemies disappearing in environments or lag input. But very cool game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you'e a bigger fan of souls-likes than I am, you might get more out of this one. From what I was able to cover it's a perfectly fine game: not too difficult, runs pretty smoothly, etc. Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough about the story or the gameplay to grab me. It all feels fairly generic at the end of the day.
