The player usually takes control of an aircraft (or spacecraft) to do this, and today, we define this sub-genre as the "Schmup" (shoot-em-up). These games were such a staple of gaming's earlier developments that you can see thier DNA now infused with many modern games. The problem is that the more pure…

The focus here isn't to fight enemies, but solving puzzles and rescue survivors while you run against the clock. You have the ability to teleport, and this adds a nice and refreshing new mechanic to the genre. The controls take some time to get used, and it's a bit hard to master at the start, but with some practice you'll do well. It's important to say that this is not a bullet hell title. If you are looking for a completely new experience, you…

But not only does it have great graphics, the music is also amazing, and the game-play is well thought trough. Boosting and teleporting around the world work well and the loot you find helps you out quite a bit. Would recommend this Game just for the Graphics and the Music alone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Full video review: http://www.youtube.com/Brbteabreaktv http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C4ksWnjEZI Shmups has been a genre of little innovation over the years; we see the same renditions every year with slightly more enemies, new tilesets and new gun types. The folks over at Futurlab have tried to innovate on this style of game with much success. It stays true to the roots of a Shmup while experimenting with things such as acceleration and teleportation. Now while these innovations change how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Velocity Ultra is a cool shoot 'em up, where you can complete most of the levels at your own pace. You can scroll through the levels at a faster pace with the press of a button. Your ship can also teleport and hit walls without taking damage. It's an impressive spaceship, really. There are many levels, about 50 or so, and completing a level will earn you xp; xp that can be used to progress through these many levels as some of more difficult ones will still be locked at the beginning. And it's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's worth a damn money! Control's bit tricky at first, but very unique and addicting when you get used to it! It's not bullet hell type game, but rather a Radiant Silvergun kinda of puzzle shooter. Buy it! :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What starts as a fun, shooty ships game with only one collectible to worry about, quickly degenerates once the game introducing the telepod and you end up with sprawling levels, back tracking to hit switches in the correct order and get all the collectibles or just be able to finish the level. Also there is a point system (given based on how well you accomplish three parameters: time, score and survivors collected) that will gate you off from later levels. I never ran into problems with this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay: Velocity Ultra is a Shoot 'em Up game that doesn't focus on killing waves and waves of enemies or dodging thousands of bullets: it values more the player's ability to play fast and efficiently. Teleporting gives you a nice method of advanced movement, and in many stages a mechanic for puzzle-solving. The controls are easy to understand, but take a while to master. Replayability: Even after beating the game, you will probably revisit levels to achieve the level-specific milestones for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring and repetitive. After a few levels, I found myself getting the minimum of survivors just so I could get finish the level as fast as possible. I also found the soundtrack to be unimpressive enough to disable the sound so that I could hear something else.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I highly recommend this game for Shmup and puzzle fans. I'm only halfway through the game, but it has some good musics and addictive gameplay. You need to clear every levels and save the survivors, but for that, you'll have to use teleporters, dive ability, booster and or course : shooting. The game is in 2D but that's fine, it's beautiful, and smooth. The difficulty increases for every zone you'll unlock. This is like a race game mixed with Ikaruga and Portal. There is leaderboard and high…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game must just be just a product of its time. I have no idea why this game is so highly regarded or what awards it could have possibly won. The shmup elements of the game are horrendously subpar, the "puzzles" are just glorified memorization mazes essentially, the whole games art style looks stretched and terrible, none of the levels are interesting, the teleportation/dash mechanic is incredibly awkward to use especially on controller. It's not worth it even on sale, there are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Velocity Ultra is a top down shooter. You control a space ship that can fire at hostile ships and turrets, you can collect items (e.g. weapon power up, restore shield, ...) and you have an unlimited engine boost that can greatly speed up your ship. But the most interesting thing about your ship is its teleport capability: if you can point your cursor to an empty spot on your screen, you can teleport there, no matter how many walls and enemies are between you and that spot. You will encounter…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Velocity Ultra is amazing, it feels like an HD remake of an imaginative Amiga game, down to its soundtrack. Game got it all: puzzles, racing, shoot 'em up, super twitchy and incredible responsive controls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has issues saving graphic options specified on launch. I contacted the developers about it, and they didn't help too much. Turns out some people end up with two config files. When I told them about this, they stopped responding. Pretty lame support for your own game, guys. Also it's kind of dull.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To be fair, i bought the game in a bundle and therefore got it without actually wanting it. Still i am a huge fan of scroll shooters and tried it out. In Velocity Ultra you try to rescue as many survivors as possible and finish the level as fast as you can to gain the maximum score. While this is a different approach to the scroll shooter genre than the usual "kill everything", it doesnt seem to work very well. Even though all levels are different, they just feel the same, as all you do is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do NOT play this game with keyboard+Mouse. If the ingame Glyphs didn't already give you a hint of warning, these devs semi-force you to play with a controller even if you DO NOT WANT to,. movement is ASDW, Shooting is Left-Mouse, Teleportation is Right mouse, and directional bombs are JKLI,. Unfortunately I do not have 3 hands,. much as it would be convenient to have. Play this game with a controller!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A puzzle-flavored shoot-em-up game. Simple but polished and intense. The trailer gives a good sense for what you're getting, so all I really need to add is: Yes, it's as fun as it looks. The levels are short and sweet and sweet. Different stages alternate their focus between puzzles, speedy navigating, and shooting/dodging, so there's a nice feeling of variety. The shooting is pretty forgiving (your ship can take multiple hits) so extreme shmup skills aren't required. The real challenge…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When you want to make a game in which the boost is the core gameplay, at least, you make sure that the game runs smoothly when you use it... The jolts make it unplayable. And the scroll speed is way too fast. Not to mention the multiple teleportation. This game will kill your eyes !
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gift that just keeps on giving. Every time you think you've seen the last this game has to show you, out comes another ability from the bottomless box of tricks. After a fumbly start, you soon find yourself zipping and teleporting around the brilliantly designed levels like Nightcrawler or suhin'.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awkward controls poorly adapted for PC and mouse and keyboard. The entire gimmick of teleporting to your mouse pointer is somewhat ruined when the pointer keeps springing back to your ship's location when you click. Combined with the game clearly being a mobile title intended for a screen in portrait mode, it's not an enjoyable experience to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've never experienced motion sickness in a game until playing Velocity Ultra. The controls/movement are incredibly janky and just about unplayable with controller. Keyboard is only marginally better. Literally can't stand playing this. It's also very samey and repetitive. Hard pass.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Follow our curator for similar games https://store.steampowered.com/curator/35180752-3-point-play/ Maze + speed runs + teleport = This is not your typical shmup, which makes the game interesting. Teleport to rescue pods and through obstacles to get to the end of the stage while blasting enemies
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty average top-down 2D shooter. Doesn't play very well with a controller - the teleport mechanic is clearly designed for a mouse user. Otherwise generic.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Cool! Jump on it Kee-Moe-Sabee! Hybrid Shmupuzzle game. A perfect tool for getting used to driving future teleportation vehicles. It is never too early to start learning. Very cool retro arcade action man. Got this game with a coupon. It was 90% off. One dollar. Velocity Ultra is worth more for sure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very dissaponting game. Very bad controls and the teleporting its bad. it would be could if they edited conrols and change the teleport to a button and lets you go through walls. 5.6/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Velocity®Ultra is a new(at least for me) twist on the slowly fading Shmup genre. The concept is simple: save all survivors, take out threats, and complete each stage as fast as possible. The twist to this game is that you have to teleport from area to area in order to complete these tasks. Where many shmup's difficulty stems from bullet hell, Velocity®Ultra's challenge comes from fast pace manuvering. The game's fluid and tight mechanics are its stong point. However, this is what will make or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's kinda dull. Not a lot to see here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's ok, but I feel like it's a bit conflicted. A speed focused game with backtracking? Sure, you could say that some levels are not speed focused, but as an exploration/puzzle/action game it doesn't work very well... Plus, the teleport controls are not very good on a controller, being too imprecise, and on keyboard you need one hand to move, one hand to launch bombs in the four directions, and one hand on the mouse to teleport.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game, unfortunatly Velocity 2, which is even better and faster, is playstation exclusive. But this game is really good and worth its money if you like fast paced scroll shooters which need a lot of skill.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game. I played 2x on the PS4, this one is just as fun. This is a must buy. Great with controller!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and challenging arcade game. All it takes is just one more try! (About thousand times.) It feels real good when you finally get a 'Perfect' medal on a level. There are also a bunch of cool hidden minigames for when you need a change of pace.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good high speed and precision puzzle shmup 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →doesn't give me any 16:9 resolution options in the launcher even after unchecking the 4:3 monitor option
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ fun little shoot 'em up with nice gimmicks decent ost good amount of content absolute steal for the discounted price i paid for it you can go fast - controls felt weird at the beginning
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I generally don't like indy games, this one has an excellent soundtrack. The game is simple enough, a retro styled "River Raid" style shooter/scroller. The soundtrack is a nice example of contemporary chiptunes. Unfortunately I can't recommend it because while it allows you to select 4K resolution, the game only displays 1/4 of the screen zoomed to fill the display... which makes the game unplayable. If you want to play the game, you will need to drop the resolution down to last…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good quality shoot'em up with a special difference - there are solid obsacles which could be traversed only with RMB drag. So it's a game of agility and hands' coordination, surely it demands much training. However the world of the game is far from adorable and it suits mostly the fans of the genre. Хорошая, качественно сделанная расстреляйка с важной особенностью - есть непреодолимые стены, за которые можно только телепортироваться при помощи перетягивания мыши с зажатой правой кнопкой. Таким…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played little on this version of Steam. But I remember I had this game on my PsVita and got almost all the trophies out of it. It's a pretty entertaining game and teleportation gives it a lot of variety. the fun is repeating the missions and breaking the records. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mediocre-below average space shooter. Unplayable with controller
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i've done my darnest to try to make trhis game work, but it just don't. The keyboard mapping is terrible, and is just unplayable considering you shoot bombs with IJKL and use teleport/shoot normal with the mouse. Joy2Key almost worked, but using it you still can't control the teleporting for some reason, After that I tried to download a program that emulates 360 controllers, but it still wouldn't let me move the teleporter, which just makes this game unplayable. If your game more or less…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Velocity Ultra is fun, ish. There's a few major flaws. One, it's a horrible port that can't do full screen in higher resolutions without losing half the screen, and in windowed there's major screen tearing. But that can all be fixed by sacrificing some pixels. The issue comes when you realize that the later levels, after around twenty, introduce a really great mechanic (sarcasm) called backtracking. Just what everyone wanted in a fast, scrolling shooter whose main mechanic is teloportation, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nice little indie game, the cartoon art style along with the old school beat-em-up nature of the game gives combined for its retro like background music truly give the game a retro vibe, the game has 50 levels and you are judged on time, hostages saved and your score in each level. The mechanics are simple yet enjoyable, you move always in the forward direction and clear out areas and have the ability to teleport, in later levels you have to use telepods to go back to certain areas to complete…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really plan on playing more of this game when I have enough time, oodles of gameplay which you can go back to again and again. It has quite a unique style for this genre, but still has that old skool feel that makes you go all nostalgic! My full review is at http://mentalgamers.com/22865/velocity-ultra/

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Velocity®Ultra, developed by FuturLab and Curve Studios and published by Curve Games, is a high-octane top-down shoot ‘em up that reimagines traditional gameplay through its innovative teleportation mechanics. Players take control of the Quarp Jet, a futuristic spacecraft with the unique ability to instantly teleport across the screen, adding a strategic layer to the classic shoot-and-dodge formula. Set against the backdrop of a collapsing black hole, the game challenges players to rescue…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Velocity®Ultra is no doubt an interesting vertically scrolling Shooter with unique concepts. It is very fast paced and features excellent music. It has plenty of levels and challenges to keep you busy with a good degree of replayability.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1/10 Random game key: 17/152 I honestly can't think of any redeeming points to this game, it simply feels like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mobile game that isn't even any good on mobile.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Velocity®Ultra is a really good space shooter that adds a fresh feeling to a old but great concept. Word of warning thu, while keyboard + Mouse works its not recommended since some stages require you to use bombs (i,j,k,l ) and regular weapons(mouse) while controlling with wsad.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not entertaining
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am guessing this game was made as a part of an assignment in a game design class, perhaps the task was to make a twist on retro games. As such it probably got a good grade. But then to release it on steam and charge money for it is wrong imho. Nothing new added to a genre that had its peak 30 years ago. Its not a total waste of money, but 10 bucks is way to much. Get it on sale if you like top down scrolling mindless shooters, even though classics like Section-Z, Xenon, 1942 and many more are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tags: Shootmeup&BulletHell Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Leverpull backtracking level design. Horrible idea for this genre. Screen scrolling is tied to the use of the speed boost button which is clunky.
