The graphic is cute, the fighting is fun for the first hour but that's all about it. I'm not immersed by the story or any character, I can't have more rooms, I can't design my own academy the way i wanted to because everything is pre-determined which means you can't even add more street lamp or flower anywhere else. The game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished the game, and would like to share my thoughts with the players and devs. Some background on myself: I have played both previous games of this series on flash sites like kongregate and they remain to this day one of my favorite flash games, so as soon as I see the kickstarter for this game I pitched in because I love this series. The third installment didn't disappoint because I have a pretty good idea of what I am getting into, it is a fun quirky management game where you runs a…

Its really weird for a game like this to not have some way to timeskip without questing, or at least have a real time fast forwarding function. its almost as if the game was designed to be a mobile game. Despite the promise…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really fun, there is some things I hope they change but nothing major. This review may be changed later to reflect any new findings or changes in the game that make anything in here obsolete. The controls when using keyboard and mouse could definetly be improved upon. WASD is fine, but the default attack and skill buttons should be on the mouse instead. The only way I found that I can use the mouse for attack and skill usage is to bind the keyboard keys to the mouse buttons. So…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some missions can crash the game. One achievement is bugged. Game cannot be completed %100. No response from devs on issues for two years. Don't buy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On the plus side, this game is essentially Kairosoft's hero village game plus a tiny tash of action rpg, rendered in isometric 3D. If you enjoyed that game, you're likely to reasonably enjoy this one. However, this game suffers from a number of flaws that somehow make it worse than its predecessor. The biggies are: 1) There is no way to fast forward, and time crawls by at a snail's pace. The result is that if you have teams out on errands - missions that are played out with a progress bar…

Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story is a strange game that falls outside of expectations, plus a couple of annoying features that causes it to have a fair number of negative reviews upon its recent release. I have spent a few hours with this game and haven't made it very far, but far enough to know that I like it, and let me expound my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would love to give this game a positive review. It has it's moments, and can be quite fun. But there's been 0 support since launch. They did maybe 1 patch? And now they're releasing a second game? There's tons of bugs that are easily fixable that they just don't care to fix. It's really disappointing that a game with such potential to be called great is left at mediocre due to 0 support. They took their money and ran. And now they're releasing a second? As much as I'd love to support that I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, the game is broken, has been for years, and the devs refuse to fix it. The final achievement cannot be obtained, so if you care about that sort of thing, don't get the game. The gameplay itself is extremely simplistic. I "thought" this was going to be a city builder with RPG elements, but both of those concepts are sooo minimal in the game. You can build on plots that are designed for certain buildings. That's it. No design, no strategy, no trying to maximize stuff, no real city…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have never played such a boring game Everything from the gameplay loop to the music, menus, maps, story feels like it was made to be the blandest possible. It's a shame because a management/jrpg sounds interesting but then you boot up the game and there's NO management and barely anything rpg wise. It's simply a grindfest where you : -make a party with 1 OP student and 3 low level -join a mission -complete it as fast as possible but making sure to kill every monster -come back, level up…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game, just dont make the mistake i did and send all your parties on errands there is no speed up option for time so I had to sit and let 4 in game weeks pass.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have mixed feelings about this game. And since there's only yes and no, I'd click no, because I enjoyed it but it had too many cons to get a yes. PROS: - It's great for people who enjoy basic city/shop simulation games - It's cute - Some thinking required for bonuses and buffs - The graduation requirement was the most fun part of the game CONS: - Attacks are really just spamming auto-attacks and your skill button when it pops. - It's clear that some classes are just better than others and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it, knew I would though. I went in knowing it would be basic. It is but it's a fun little game to dive into for a little bit. I'll definitely get a lot of enjoyment and fun outta this especially for a tenner. No brainer at this launch price. If I had a son I could imagine playing this with him, I do not but I love playing it as an adult man haha. It has a lot of charm and the graphics are nice even if they aren't the best. I run everything in 2k but this game doesn't seem to support…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent a lot of time with the flash games and prefer them over this, to be honest. I was super excited to learn that they were making the move to a non-flash standalone sequel, given I've seen a few flash games successfully go that route, but this falls flat on its face for several reasons- Most of all that it doesn't feel finished. It needs more TLC and polish, bugs need fixing, but the game hasn't seen an update in years. It feels like it started life as an Early Access title, and then sort…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointing. Looks good but poorly implemented. * Game blocking bugs. For example, a main mission for the green faction to Kill the Alpha Wolf loads into a black screen. * Terrible balance. Gear scales strangely. While aiming to craft an Epic weapon, I realised I had multiple copies of a Common weapon that outclassed it by 10x. * More terrible balance. Missions jump drastically in difficulty from one star-rating to the next and it's entirely possible to burn through all your lower level…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I... really wanted to enjoy this game. And I've stubborned through so far, and will likely finish it... eventually. But I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. The premise and gameplay are fun enough, and the visuals are nice. if you don't accidentally set all your parties on errands at first and end up sitting around bored forever waiting for one to come back so you can play. (Or cancelling an errand, which I was too stubborn to do.) Adding a 'speed up' option might fix this. But the real issue…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i cannot recommend this. This is a very grindy game that is not fun. base building is barebone and RPG too. Don't bother.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is full of bugs and the devs dont care.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game already had a bunch of things I disliked about it, but all that aside, the technical issues are what I'm going to write about, because I literally can't advance the game now. If I have my PS4 controller plugged in, the camera spins. No way to stop spinning, no matter how I adjust the controller settings on Steam. Keyboard controls are set for right-handed people, but when I try to adjust them for my left-handed self, it rejects a lot of the keys I try to assign. The thing that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why are the developers charging 15 dollars for a game that has worse quality than a mobile game? Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story is the newest installment for the Valthirian Arc series, a school simulator series where you send off students to learn how to be befitting soldiers of the Valtheria Empire. As your students get stronger you can recruit new students, upgrade classes, forge weapons, and create buffing structures for your students at your school. If you are looking for a game where…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story is an interesting combination of RPG features and school-management sim that will bring you to the magical world of five Queendoms. You play the role of a mighty (or not) principal of a famous Academy and your task is to raise the best students to protect the realm. Never lose your focus and do not forget that evil forces never sleep. And they have cookies! What I liked and some words about the Gameplay (and some Tips, of course) To start with, my mobile…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/10 A to attack and B to use spell when it comes back, thats it, thats combat! seems to have a mobile wait to play system in place if you send your party out on a mission. no way to increase the flow of time......yeah, im not waiting 6 hours
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is ok. It's not amazing, but not terrible. Honestly speaking, with a good weapon the game becomes far too easy. You almost never have to accept students based on stats, because the weapons you can get or make instantly make them good. There were several missions I felt shouldn't have made you slog back to the portal, but it forced you to anyway. Some missions were "complete objective, mission complete" any missions that did not have someone to escort, I feel should have been…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The last achievement has been bugged, from discussions i can guess its been like that for at least 2 years. For me that's enough to not recommend it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since there is only the thumbs up/down option, I had to go with a thumbs down. The game is good, not great. The story is 5 acts and is pretty easy and quick to finish, even with hours spent grinding (clearing a map and quitting out to level up characters). All said, it takes around 20-25 hours to complete. The maps get repetitive as there is very little variety. There are some pretty game-breaking bugs, and even a bug with the final achievement: The Completionist, so I ended with 29/30…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOvO3yhQcrA You're a newly appointed principal at an academy and are required to develop your students as well your school. You go on quest and fight monsters by taking groups of students with there being a range of classes like range, melee and mages. The gameplay is ok, you can switch between the characters to fight, though, combat is kinda just pressing the same few buttons. Artwork is cute, with chibi characters ingame so seeing a bunch of chibis running…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game, I really did. The concept is nice and fun; The story is neat; The controls work just fine; And, the art style is nice... But, everything just ends up falling flat. Not because of any issues with the mechanics, but because the game is just boring. With the idea of training heroes, in a medieval setting. One imagines high adventure, when sending their students/trainees out on missions/quests. However, the combat is so dull - that the only way I can describe it is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really tried to like this game but The story is dull. The combat is repetitive and dull and doesn't ever get deeper or better.. Managing the school is not deep or interesting enough ethier. Even after unlocking the more advanced classes its still boring. Cause unlocking more classes does not change the gameplay at all. Whether your a scout , a knight , a mage or an Arc Draconus its all just mashing the one attack button till things die. its pretty braindead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed what I could play of it, except that it crashes to a "black screen" on a story mission. I read that other reviewers had this problem, but I had hoped it had been fixed. Unfortunately not, and others say it has been an issue for years with no response from devs. I cannot recommend this game, though I enjoy the premise.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to love the Kongregate game this story was made based on, and honestly was super excited to play it. I only got through the tutorial level though, the controls were... atrocious. wasd to move, which I suppose might be reasonable, but then j and l for attacks? All this while still requiring mouse for cutscenes and other things. It was horrible. I may be remembering wrong, but I remember the original Valthirian games being top down, almost like a RTS game? It would have fit the controls…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Damn. I want to recommend this game, and I can't: Some of the quests do not load. The school-management sub-genre is sadly underpopulated with games. This game is quite simple, but it could have been fun enough for me if I were able to play all of it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a huge fan of the Valthirian Arc flash games on Kongregate, and I will sink hours into them, creating stories for my students and being really eager to see how they grow and evolve- I truly love those games. So with flash no longer being supported after this year, I was thrilled to discover I could buy the next iteration on steam and show my support for the developer. Coming in with this high expectation, I was deeply disappointed. Playing through the game, you can see the seeds of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At its core, this game is not worth $14.99 or at its launch discount price either. In fact, I got the game at an external site for less than what Steam offered during the time of this review, and I wouldn't recommend it based on that price. I'm usually a sucker for games like this where you grind for gear, level up your characters, and mow down enemies. Unfortunately, that leads to the first issue. There aren't that many enemies to begin with. In order to begin a quest, you select from the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Just started it, so I'll update as I play more) My first impressions though? It's adorable, polished, runs well, and is pretty fun to play. Valthirian Arc successfully blends town-building, time-management type gameplay with an action-RPG hack-and-slash experience, which is exactly what it set out to do. And it seems to be executing it all fairly well. That core gameplay loop of messing with your Academy, then going out on missions for more resources & treasure, then coming back and messing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game tries to combine an action RPG and building sim together and manages to do neither of them well. The action RPG sections are bland. You have one basic attack and one "special move" which pretty much boils down to "basic attack that hits stronger". The character progression boils down to "chose 10% more health, attack or magic" and you only get that choice every several levels. So characters pretty much cookie cutter. The building sim is also lackluster. You have a limited number of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I backed this on Kickstarter and they delivered a decent product. It's not a terrible game. It's just middle of the road and you could probably be playing something better. The game play loop has you level up heroes, make a skill choice or two, and then change to an advanced class and start leveling up again. Every "semester" you're supposed to graduate at least 1 student in exchange for getting a ton of money and "fame" which allows you access to the advanced classes. As the game goes on, a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's good, but not good enough to make me recommend it to the others. As the 3D version of Valthirian Arc II (browser game, free to play on lots of websites), Valthirian Arc HSS is still a huge advancement from it. Despite, I am really disappointed by the artwork in VAHSS. The characters were looked so dump, and the voice wasn't so good either. It somehow does not worth the price it is labelled. Only the deep-fun of Valthirian Arc series should buy this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Way too much time is wasted just waiting for something to happen. There are no fast forward button.

unlabelledView post →Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story is probably the first game from an Indonesian dev and while it has it's flaws I had a lot of fun? You can raise your students to be heroes, but when you're further in the story it's near impossible to get your other student to a high level. This is because you no longer get low level missions and the training ground is only good for apprentices, but if you promote them they'll barely gain any experience at all. If they simply added a more advanced training…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i really like the game, i can sit an sink a few hours at a time into it and have a good time. however i have 1 minor issues and 1 major issue. the minor is not having a speed up time on the controller setup so i need to use the key board for it, i use controller for battle and mouse and keyboard for the town. now my major issue and why i cant give it a yes recommendation is the game breaking and crashing bug of a number of the missions. i go to start the mission and end up with a black screen…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been accompanying the series since the very first flash games at Kongregate's website. I have always been hyped by the idea of the game, mixing two game genres never seen before in that way before (simulation and rpg). When the developers asked for support at Kickstarter, not only I have helped as the thought of something as much unique would be coming. It was all frustrating. Developer took one year and a half extra on the promised delivery time and the game wasn't at all different…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is really fun and chilled to play, worth buying if you need something else to play. However the control are bad and half the time the game crashes need improving.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spend more time playing a boring and very basic dungeon looter than being a principal. Since the game description is all about the school and not about the deeply tedious dungeon looter adventures this would be bad even if the adventuring was fun. Which it isn't.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want an idea of what this game is like, check out the first two Valthirian Arc games on Kongregate. It improves upon the simple premise set in those by giving you an interesting story to play along with while you go on missions to help the students level up. If you want a chill RPG with simple fighting, cute art, and a fun story, give this game a shot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a multi-genre high fantasy with great graphics and an amazing concept; unfortunately that's where it ends. Everything in the game, the academy building, combat, crafting, story, and rpg aspects had the bare minimum of effort put into it by the developers. For example, the combat has characters with different "special attacks," but it's really just about button mashing your auto attack over and over and having the right level stats and gear for your party to pass the quest. Having…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My opinion is of many below. This game feels like its designed for mobile specifically based on the fact that if you send all your teams out to do "errands" you will have to wait up to 30 minutes in real time. A lack of actually being able to build and design "your" academy in the way you want limits the game to being very repetitive and lack luster after a mere 30 minutes. So in conclusion Devs, please release this for mobile like it was meant to be.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The controls are awful. Both on keyboard & mouse AND controllers. It's so awkward. The controls are slightly better with the controllers, but it is still awful. The story is decent, but the gameplay is where it is at. The gameplay is something you can find in Mobile Games nowadays that is a FREE GAME. This is not worth it in my opinion. The gameplay needs to be enhanced. Overall, 3/10. Needs better gameplay for the fighting part.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its not bad per say .........but it does seriously lack for a game so hyped. Its pretty and you can waste a few hours on it but thats about it, It doesn't offer much of anything else. My advice is to wait to see what patches and dlcs get released and then give it a try. Update: Alright now that i've played this game a decent amount i can say without a doubt that this game is not worth the price they charge as it sorely lacks any real playability, If you can pick it up for 5-6 bucks then go for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game concept here and really want to recommend this, but unfortunately it falls flat in more than a few ways. I feel like if they ever tried to make another game like this I would give it a go hoping that they would fix some of the issues. There are some issues that I have with bugs or glitches in this game; some where my party members would run in place and not follow me, some where a party member should be dead and wasn't or even some where when I closed it and opened the window…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd really like to recommend this game, it has a lot going for it. The original concept is a lot of fun. This game isn't finished. It has huge holes in the story. Memory leaks. Bad code, and as well as crashing the game every half an hour it managed to crash my whole computer a few times. There is no synergy. They obviously threw random things in at random times and didn't bother to balance them. The graduation system doesn't work well after the first rank up, and is woefully inadequate when…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could say I'm mixed about this game but it only gives me a "yes" or "no" option. I would like to start off by saying I liked the concept of the game. Think Darkest Dungeon but scaled down to the cutesy visage you see up there. Less stress, less pain and more about the joys of raising your students into heroes and making your academy great. But, from what I've experienced and what I saw from Agate Studio's history they haven't gotten out of the mobile games mindset. This game seems…

(have 8 cause i messed up and sent all my students on missions and had no way to progress time, and fell asleep waiting) it got old fast... nothing like offering a hero/ Advennture party manager game and then shackling players to a very linear path. The combat is poorly thought out... wanting to be an action rpg while holding to classic rpg feel, yet failing in both. I wish I could refund it, but to much time passed trying to get my people back.
