What people are saying

Mixed: many enjoy the strategy, but balance and progression frustrate others.

Many players praise the strategic depth and variety of heroes, calling it a fun and addictive tactical game. One player notes it is 'easy to learn, difficult to master' and another says it is 'super fun while respecting its own ambitions.' [16][13]

However, several players criticize the difficulty balance and progression between runs. One refunded player states 'Horrible balance, the 2nd boss I encountered had an attack that can hit from anywhere and after one turn does 100% of my max hp.' Another says 'Progression is abysmal between runs.' [25][24]

Praised strategic depth · variety of heroes · addictive gameplay

New to this game. First feel, it's pretty straightforward and challenging (not too complex mind you). That's to be expected, but in all fairness the game rewards those who play and learn from it. Keep an eye out for the symbols on top of the charts you'll encouter, that's often an important indication! The further you progress, the more challenging your run gets, and skulls are usually tougher (deadlier) challenges. So better steer clear, until you're more capable and more experienced, to try…

1.5/10 Not much of a "game", unfortunately. It's just a string of boring fights with no satisfying elements to those fights. Devs need to look at what other, better games do to make combat more interesting. Refunded. Pros: - Art is quite good. Like surprisingly good for an indie - Can take more than 1 of a class. Huge plus Mehs: - Voice acting is not so great, but nor is it so bad as to be distracting - No text/UI scaling. Some of the text on the character screen especially is a…

I fully expect a dev response along the lines of "you haven't played enough / skill issue" - that's what I saw on other negative reviews that had valid points. And the response to positive feedback is "thanks, much appreciated, please join our Discord" :) OK, first, here are some aspects I liked: - Character variety and party composition: there are like 8 distincts classes, each of them with their own playstyle, you can have up to 5 in your battle squad with an option for another 3…

Refunded the game. I wanted to like it, but I felt it has some major things holding it back. 1) Enemy type balance - could easily be fixed by patches, but it feels like of the three enemies types in act 1 (spiders, undead, bandits) there's a definite wide gulf in difficulty between them. Spiders are mostly manageable. I found myself picking them the most as a route option. The rogue type bandits have the ability to hit like freight trains (10+ damage) and shred anyone they get…

Sadly I will refund it. It IS because of difficulty (and a tiny bit clunk). First the clunk, The way to see enemy health / dmg is to actively click on them, gets a bit much when theres 6+ enemies. The range of movement doesnt appear to toggle (like fire emblem) or even click an enemy to stick their range. In short knowing if your in range is doable but TEDIOUS. NO take back on movement is also an issue, IE enemy is blocked but can hit my archer, I move archer away, and now the enemy path…

Decent game for what it is. Pick up on sale, note this game has no controller support so does not work on steam deck like I had hoped. Hopefully this will be added at some point, but for now decent rogue-lite tactics game to mindlessly burn time on.

After playing this game for 15 hours here is my opinion. (Sorry english isn't my first language) I enjoyed the game quite a lot, its fun but im not actually sure I would recomend it, yet, to everyone. I would recommend to people who love this type of game and wants to support a small dev team. I woudn't recommend for people who have high standard, It still need a lot of feature and improvement to be a great game (Quality of life, mechanics, maps, items, visual, balance, bug, etc). That being…

A really enjoyable game that's perfect for playing a few rounds to clear your head during a work break. My only suggestions would be to add a tutorial for new players, as it took me a while to figure everything out. Also, an option to speed up enemy turns would be a fantastic addition for those of us who want to get back into the action quickly.

I don't usually write reviews, but this is my new account, and this was one of the first games I bought on it. The game is fresh and definitely deserves more reviews, so I decided to give it a try. At first, I lost 4 games in a row. It felt extremely difficult, and the enemies seemed unbalanced. But after spending more time with it, I started to understand how the game works. Each enemy type has its own strengths and weaknesses. For example, Bandits felt overpowered at first, but once I…

A great game. I enjoyed the variety of heroes. In my opinion, the game really opens up and reaches its full potential after unlocking all the champions. Before that, it feels more like a tutorial phase. I personally went with the slayer tactic—it’s easy to one-shot bandits since there are three of them. You go to the backline, take them out, gather loot, and by the second safe zone interaction, you already have a full squad to take down the boss. My friend, on the other hand, uses two…

I would say that it is a great start, I really enjoyed my first play of this game, I like idea, I was really chilling out and I almost every time was interesting what will gonna happen in the next steps, For now I had a possibility to challenge only one Boss and I would say it was interesting and quite challenging. honestly I really enjoyed it.

I'm still in the middle of the game. The first thing I want to say is that it's clear a lot of thought went into it, you can see the time and effort spent on all the little details. I also really liked the world, the fantasy setting, the sound and the design. It's great that it's not too overwhelming or tiring to learn how to play, which is a big plus. Let's see what else it has to offer and how it develops. I'd definitely recommend this game.

It's nice and fast, and I really like the art of this game. I wish that I could access the recruits or shop on demand because then it would open up taking riskier options instead of always picking the path of least resistance (spiders). Overall though, I'm liking it so far!

Awesome! I like the game very much! Enjoyed playing it. Can't stop since i bought it, ive been playing for 4 hours straight. The variety of hero classes, their skills, abilities and unique items makes the game interesting and complex.

I enjoyed the game, until I got to the first boss. There is difficult and then there is absurd and not fun, which is this game. The first boss is a spider, with projectile attacks that you cannot get to, as there are 3 egg sacks spawning 2 spiders each round. In order to stop this you have to kill the sacks. All attacks (regardless of armor) do 1 point of damage to the characters. Therefore, by the end of the first round, 1/2 the party is dead and by round 3 one sack was taken out and one…

Super fun while respecting its own ambitions. I have easily gotten my money's worth, but $10-$12 might be more the correct price for this one.

I've given up on this. Progression is abysmal between runs. You can keep a single item into the next round and it's honestly not enough to make a difference. And of course if you didn't find anything better than the previous run, then your last run didn't actually give you any progress at all. Even using some cheap tactics like maxing the marksman, sooner or later you run into a boss that one hit kills a single character per turn, and then it's pure luck if he picks off your best unit or…

A fantastic tactical gem! I’ve played a bit more than 6 hours of Valiant Tactics so far, and I’m genuinely impressed by how strategic and satisfying it is. Every battle feels meaningful, every decision matters, and I love that the game removes the frustration of random misses — it’s all about pure strategy, positioning, and smart planning. The variety of classes, gear and encounters kept every run fresh for me, and the balance between combat and roguelite choices is incredibly well-designed.…

In short: Tactics is fun. Diverse builds. Easy to learn, difficult to master. Only thing I felt a bit lacking was progression between rounds. Overall a great game, definately recommend.

Horrible balance, the 2nd boss I encountered had an attack that can hit from anywhere and after one turn does 100% of my max hp so he just one shot everyone turn by turn, I have no idea what was I supossed to do there and overall you don't really get much stronger as time goes one while the enemies ramp up very quickly.

A good simple to play tactical RPG with some depth to character skills and equipment. Some of the text is a bit small and there is no option to resize it, also you cannot zoom in the battlefield which is standard on most games of this sort. But I have enjoyed the time I have spent with it so far and have beaten the spider boss not sure how many there are to complete a run

Very fun, simple, but at the same time engaging and addictive game, 10/10 would recommend! The game is very easy to grasp, essentially you build out a team of heroes and go on dungeon runs. You get upgrades, buy new weapons & potions, etc. The graphics are crisp and the difficulty is well balanced.

In simple terms, the game is challenging but fun. I love when a game feels unbeatable at first, but becomes manageable once you discover the right strategy (I’m not there yet, lol). I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys tough roguelikes.

The combat controls are poorly developed, and the intermissions don't seem to allow easy camping to heal, which heightens the likelihood of failure by an unreasonable and unrealistic degree. I don't know anyone stupid enough to just charge bleeding into battle without resting well enough to be actually healthy enough to be ready for combat. The design just leaves a lot to be desired.
