Luca was the #1 streamed movie of 2021; Turning Red was the #2 streamed movie of 2022. That seems pretty universal. (Soul also streamed well + 2 Oscars.)

positive · AI labelView post →2 new Pixar original films have been revealed: • ‘Ono Ghost Market’ - A film inspired by Asian myths about supernatural bazaars where the living & dead interact • The studio's first-ever musical film, directed by Domee Shi (‘Turning Red’) (Source: www.wsj.com/business/med...)
neutral · AI labelView post →So Turning Red is no favourite film of mine at all but I had sooooo much fun getting creative with this pic! And it was cool to try and replicate the facial style too! This is a commission for ph0220 on FA ^^ Hope you like it!
neutral · AI labelView post →this is why "Turning Red" is a perfect film we needed desperately and everyone who shat on it to make sure we'd never get anything like it again can choke
positive · AI labelView post →Turning Red is still a pretty great movie.
positive · AI labelView post →god it's so depressing to see like, massive numbers for Disney Live Action remakes and then remember how Turning Red was a historically catastrophic box office failure despite being Pixar's best film in the past 15 years by an insanely wide margin
positive · AI labelView post →Every few months I see a screenshot that reminds me how fucking GOOD Turning Red was. I just don't think any movie before it so perfectly captured what preteen girls are like
positive · AI labelView post →Have some concept art of Mei as the red panda from Turning Red by Jason Deamer. These designs are so cute and expressive. Just love how they carried over into the final film.
neutral · AI labelView post →Pixar just dropped a new trailer for Hoppers this morning. I'm gonna be honest, this might be my most anticipated animated film of next year. You can really feel Daniel Chong's energy in this and it really looks like Pixar's craziest film, even more than Turning Red. I'm hyped.
neutral · AI labelView post →She’s locked in*. *-to Pixar’s Turning Red (To be fair to her, she got maybe six hours of sleep, so a movie is about all she can handle right now.)
neutral · AI labelView post →Pixar just dropped a special look at Hoppers and if anything, I'm even more hyped for the film. This really does look like Pixar making a film even crazier than Turning Red and I'm so excited to see what Daniel Chong does with this in March. Cannot wait to see it!
neutral · AI labelView post →In the 2003-set film Turning Red, the Backstreet Boys-esque boyband the main characters are obsessed with have an anachronistic K-Pop aesthetic to them because the only way you can explain what a boyband is to a ten year old in the 2020s is “imagine a white K-Pop idol”.
neutral · AI labelView post →You all thought Mr. Enter bringing up 9/11 in his Turning Red review was batshit insane? Here is Star Giant Productions talking about the fucking Pearl Harbor attacks in his Rugrats Movie review and blames it entirely on a fictional character.
neutral · AI labelView post →Please tell me you didn't see Turning Red, the movie about puberty, without seeing it.
neutral · AI labelView post →I’m not done about Forgotten Island. Y’all I’m actually livid about how some people think they can’t relate to films that aren’t about their sex or ethnicity etc. My daughters related so much to Turning Red, Kpop demon hunters and this movie. They remarked how real the girls felt. Fix your heart.
positive · AI labelView post →A recent REALLY good rare commentary was the one on the Turning Red Blu Ray which iirc was all women who worked on the film who spend most of it crediting artists, scene by scene, by *name* which rarely happened on other Pixar commentaries
neutral · AI labelView post →Not to be cynical, but I think KPop Demon Hunters follows a trend of straight-to-streaming movie successes that executives won’t learn from because there is no tangible metric to point to (box office, ratings, view count) so like Mitchells vs the Machines or Turning Red it gets written off as vibes.
neutral · AI labelView post →me hunting down the director of the Disney film "Turning Red"
neutral · AI labelView post →Lightyear was bland, lifeless and failed to live up to it's premise. Elemental, while a fine film overall, was definitely Pixar-by-numbers. Both were designed for mass appeal & failed. Luca and Turning Red are the best post-Lasseter Pixar movies by far. Sweet stories, original ideas, unique styles.
positive · AI labelView post →I'ma be real with you, and this may seem exceedingly harsh...but I just dislike the look of this film. Its got that Soul/Turning Red/ blob human style that is just worn out at this point
negative · AI labelView post →Pixar is developing its first-ever musical film. Domee Shi (‘Turning Red’) will direct. (via www.wsj.com/business/med...)
neutral · AI labelView post →Funny to think P!xar is now "shifting focus to more relatable stories" when Turning Red remains the most I've felt seen in a film because of how grounded it was TURNING RED IS A TREASURE OF A FILM AND I WILL FIGHT FOR IT LIKE A ARMOR-CLAD KNIGHT I'LL FIGHT FOR BRAVE TOO - BOTH ARE GREAT FILMS
positive · AI labelView post →dad just watched Turning Red yesterday - on his 50s - brazilian with no chinese blood - not conservative but falls on their fallacies from time to time - super common worker man and yet, he was able to understand and enjoy the movie a lot better than many movie youtubers
neutral · AI labelView post →Watching Turning Red with the family. I forgot how wonderful this movie was. For me especially, the fact that they have TWO diabetic characters just living their lives and not being part of a ridiculous plot device rules.
positive · AI labelView post →It amazes me who there's lots of secondary Cars (the movie) characters in Hot Wheels models, but there's not a single one Turning Red doll. Same as for Kpop Demon Hunters. Investors still believe men are the default market. Men are still default. The world is built by and for men.
neutral · AI labelView post →What garbage. I’m an older white gay man and I found TURNING RED funny and relatable. It’s a necessary movie for young girls, far more than CARS 7 or whatever. And LUCA actually made me teary. We need *more* personal films, not fewer!
positive · AI labelView post →My son is finally moving away from wanting to watch Nightmare Before Christmas nonstop. We've moved on to Turning Red, Mulan, and Hercules. Hercules is my absolute favorite Disney film, so I'm glad he's enjoying it.
neutral · AI labelView post →‘HOPPERS’ is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 94% from 146 reviews. • Highest-rated Pixar original film since ‘Turning Red’ in 2022. • It also has a 94% Audience Score.
neutral · AI labelView post →Turning Red was such a great movie too.
positive · AI labelView post →And by the way, do you wanna know why we didn’t have a solo woman directed film at Pixar until Turning Red 10 years later? It’s him.
unlabelledView post →3YO chose Turning Red for the movie today. We’ve seen it a bunch but what stuck out to me today was the stealthily radical choice to have Mei’s conflict of how to deal with her transformation solved within the first quarter of the movie.
unlabelledView post →Fun fact: Domee Shi directed Bao, the last theatrically released Pixar short, and Turning Red, the last great Pixar film. She and filmmakers like her are the future of Pixar. They certainly should be.
unlabelledView post →Remember when everyone lost their shit when Turning Red came out and the movie was about puberty for girl? I remember seeing assholes crying about why didn't they make it into a sex ed video for schools.
unlabelledView post →My kids love Turning Red. We have watched it many times. But this was the moment I realized that they view it as a horror movie.
unlabelledView post →The Pixar that made Turning Red and the one that Milo are basically separate companies. The amount of bravery to have a movie about a little girl going through puberty, including the messy aspects, is just so much more than what they are making now it's crazy.
unlabelledView post →Oh don't worry, he cites Turning Red as another movie he wouldn't greenlight, and bangs on about wanting endless sequels instead.
unlabelledView post →Turning Red was the most recent Disney movie I can remember that was worth seeing in theaters
unlabelledView post →As someone who likes red pandas, my experience watching the movie TURNING RED a few years ago was similar to that of a Deadpool fan watching WOLVERINE: ORIGINS
unlabelledView post →What worked in Cars’ favor is being a nostalgic Pixar film to Gen Z (they still love theaters) and it hasn’t gotten a theater run SINCE 2006. Toy Story 1 has been rereleased a ton since 1995, and Soul, Luca, and Turning Red were too recent on Disney+ to attract moviegoers.
unlabelledView post →Turning Red is incredibly slept on and I'm very excited Domee Shi is getting to helm another film.
unlabelledView post →tonight's movie night with friends: TURNING RED!
unlabelledView post →Fans: "We want more movies like Turning Red and Elio but with the queer content kept in." Disney: "What about instead we give you a movie about the chauvinist asshole everyone hates and who dies painfully in another movie where he tries to kill the hero love interest?"
unlabelledView post →I'm rewatching Turning Red today and i'm a little disappointed 9/11 isnt covered in the movie. Super bummed😔
unlabelledView post →In better news, my son is starting to really like Turning Red now. Which is awesome cause it's the best coming-of-age/Kaiju movie ive seen.
unlabelledView post →Turning Red is a great movie. I wish Toronto was real.
unlabelledView post →10 Favorite Animated Features: (No order, limited to one film from a studio to make it harder for me otherwise there’d be more Ghibli XD) Secret of NIMH Spirited Away The Prince of Egypt Treasure Planet Paranorman Paprika Turning Red The Last Unicorn A Goofy Movie Into the Spider-verse
unlabelledView post →it's almost a dig at everyone at pixar trying to write their own personal thing. But again, this guy did Inside Out and "Turning Red" was the last pixar movie that moved me to tears over it's themes
unlabelledView post →Their reasoning makes no sense. Luca was the #1 streamed movie in 2021 & #9 in 2022. Turning Red was #2 in 2022. If that doesn't count as 'clear mass appeal' I don't now what does.
unlabelledView post →This Turning Red deleted scene should’ve been in the movie
unlabelledView post →I find it weird Pixar now considers Turning Red a failure. You wouldn't know that looking everywhere else. There's new graphic novel series based on the film, tons of merchandise, and the characters have even started making regular appearances in the theme parks.
unlabelledView post →Turning Red ONLY went to streaming after Encanto, a Disney in-house film (and, mayhap not coincidentally, also minority-led) released as the Omicron wave of Covid was becoming a problem, did not do as well as expected. Never forget that.
unlabelledView post →And then Mei's mum arrives. The tension in the lighting here is great as we bounce back and forth rapidly between the external and interior world. Here the film starts to introduce the language of horror movies. Turning Red is a bit of a werewolf movie.
unlabelledView post →I can't help but notice whenever a Pixar movie doesn't do well, they blame a group of people. Brave, Buzz Lightyear, Turning Red, and Elio.
unlabelledView post →Yeeesh, this new Pixar trailer is rough. Like I’m not gonna discount a film till I see it but that trailer did not inspire confidence in a studio that hasn’t made a truly good movie since… Turning Red? Or Coco?
unlabelledView post →Meanwhile, I don't think we've watched a single movie in my househoold more over the past two years than Turning Red.
unlabelledView post →I've done a lot of soul-searching and considered this a lot, and I think Turning Red is a better movie than Luca.
unlabelledView post →But also Gilliam’s ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN. And I still can’t believe TURNING RED flopped, that film is brilliant!
unlabelledView post →Domee Shi should get to just keep directing movies. Turning Red is Miyazaki level good while being absolutely nothing like a Gibili movie. She could be that caliber a name if she is able to keep going!
unlabelledView post →Turning Red is still my favorite Pixar movie.
