positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Tropico 3, and 4 and I wanted to love Tropico 5, but I just can't. Tropico 5 feels like a city builder that forgot it was supposed to be fun. Tropico 3 and 4 let you build your island your way. Tropico 5 constantly interrupts you with forced tasks that drag you through a rigid checklist instead of letting you play. Every mission pushes you into a sequence of mandatory objectives that you cannot ignore. You are not shaping your island. You are following instructions. The game stops you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tropico 5 is a decent city-builder with a great satirical sense of humor about politics and dictatorship, but it's hard not to feel like a step down from Tropico 4 in almost every way that matters. The era system is an interesting idea that ends up locking you out of buildings that should be available much earlier, and the dynasty mechanic adds busywork without the deep character customization the previous game offered. Late-game becomes a frustrating mess of unexplained unhappiness, rebels you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having 100%'d Tropico 4 and loved it, I came into this one thinking maybe people were too harsh on it because I did hear people disliked 4 and it become one of my faves. I had an open mind, there was plenty of DLC, so there must be something to like right? Oh, how naive I was. For starters, the progress of time is awful compared to 4. The game forces you to do a mandatory checklist before you can progress, sometimes involving wars you don't really have a chance to get out of nor likely…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tropico 5 is a new proposition for the series and the results are quite mixed. Right off the bat, it is visible how this game is the product of a decision by committee, as it is so bland in every way. All the mechanics have been simplified and even the music, the staple of the series, is visibly more generic and inferior to its predecessor. The abandonment of classic systems in favor of completely new ones was an unfortunate decision. The Dynasty system and multiplayer were not well…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tropico 5 is starting to show its age, and the graphics are no longer exactly state of the art. That said, the game is still fun to play and offers a challenging city-building simulation. Achievements Required time: 40-50 Hours Difficulty (in my opinion): 3/10 DLCs required for 100%?: Yes – 2 (Waterborne, Espionage) In terms of achievements, most of them are earned simply by completing the main campaign and the two DLC campaigns for Espionage and Waterborne. This will unlock the majority of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another game with another stupid f*ckin launcher for no reason!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did this on stream today and even fired up Rise of Legends and Tropico 5 to show off the deal with those games. RoL is probably the main game I want a real port of, its a pain to get access to (I have the DVD case lol) and I think it really has a lot to offer to us, both historically and on its own.

They come up to me, the best game players, tremendous players, they say, “Sir, have you played it?” And I have. I’ve played it. And let me tell you, it’s a game. A big game. But it’s got problems. **HUGE** problems. But also some good things. Very good. First, the good. When you’re El Presidente—and you should be, because the other candidates are low-energy—you rule an island. A beautiful island. And the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I find it too complicated, difficult, and stressful. I'm struggling even on early levels with standard difficulty. Had no issue with Tropico 4. I feel too much pressure to accomplish the main goals of the level.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not like this game or any of the sequels to it. Tropico peaked at 3 / 4, this game is a straight up downgrade in terms of graphics and playability, the VA is worse, and the game is pretty much a naked cash grab using the franchises good name to cash in instead of letting it retire gracefully. Terrible follow up to a great legacy, I do not consider it worthy of the Tropico franchise and am very dissapointed in it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why is Lana del Ray talking about hit video game Tropico 5
unlabelledView post →Tropico 4 was essentially perfect. This is the worst iteration of the game. They completely upended the game mechanics. You have to completely relearn how to play the game. They ditched some of the most fun characters. It's not fun anymore. Playing it feels like a chore. I played Tropico 4 to destress from work. Tropico 5 is basically a second fulltime job, and if I wanted that, I would just go get one.

You are El Presidente – stylish, feared, slightly drunk, and emotionally devastated because your teddy bear got kidnapped during a coup attempt. Your job? Build a nation, rewrite history, exploit the masses, and look muy sexy doing it. The people cry for housing. You build a golden statue of yourself. The rebels demand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played all of the Tropico games since the beginning, but this is the one I go back to again and again. The balance and re-playability of this one just seem to be superior to all the others, even the newest one. I find myself getting so wrapped up building the perfect island that hours pass by without my realizing it, very easy to get lost in this one. The customization options, the Missions, the Workshop Missions, the sandbox, the ability to create your own customized missions, makes for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is ok, its decent but its the same game using the same means to dredge money from you. The game is a decent base, but soon you see a DLC that sort of adds a bit here and there, this is the 5th version yet there is 12 DLC packs, is this addition or simply taking the piss and you for the ride ? Its getting Paradox levels of DLC stupid, you decide if you want to keep paying for content updates, again the base game is good but the devs keep going paid DLC heavy,
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game for future dictators
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just here for the Banger Music as my feeble mind cant grasp the concept of making Money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eh, for some reason every time period advancement in the campaign feels like a spike in difficulty out of nowhere. Also my double rations + pay for meal edicts are still on despite that being a colonial era decision I made. The game should reset to let me pick either edict.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's mechanics are very vague and unfriendly to new players. Miniscule things like the game's AI breaking, causing a traffic jam or delay in resources can be catastrophic to your economy. You've built the structures, you've set the trade routes, you've set a budget, hired workers...and you lose money. And you have no idea why. Whatever that reason could be, you'll never know. The game won't tell you. It expects you to sift through every little piece of the map, and hope you can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Start on Tropico 4. Kinda the high point, Tho 3 is cheaper and tells you how its going to go. But here they are drifting. No real ideas and the flavor of being Justin Trudeau's Father's lover/baby daddy is played out. So get if you love this series, otherwise why get the collection?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm pushing back my Tropico stream by a hour! I'm also going to try out Tropico 5 instead because I realized I owned that one and I think I should make it Boof's game instead of mine. Tropico 4 shall remain mine! #Eugenevox #Vtuber #VtuberEN

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like (borat) building placement i'snt as good as tropico 4 tho.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hope 6 is better than this. Do you ever get to play more than the first 2 scenarios over and over again? why can't I just restart a mission, instead of having to restart the entire game?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was gonna recommend this game to other players but then it crashed while I was placing a logging camp. In all seriousness you should still buy this game but that was annoying
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played Tropico back when I was a kid and been playing every installment since then. What other game let's you become a dictator and control your very own island and the people in it. Build hundreds of labor camps and jail every citizien because why not? Tropico 5's Penultimo was a pain in the ass.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another fun entry in the Tropico franchise.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I lost everything twice, I played this game though it. Good Game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried revisiting this after 11 years and gave up after an hour. It hasn’t aged well, clunky UI, shallow systems, and a dated feel all around. The charm is there, but everything from logistics to visuals just feels stiff and limited now. If you're curious about the series, skip this one and go straight to Tropico 6. It's far more refined and actually fun to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I also at first thought this was a reference to hit video game Tropico 5
unlabelledView post →simcity 4 of the franchise, it's fine, it's starting to get soulless, it's still worth 100%ing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →even if you're getting it for free, i don't suggest it. the dlc doesn't help cover up its flaws or make up for them. buy 4 or 6. they're much better and their dlc are fun. I can't stand this game. i love 4, 6 can be really enjoyable if i have lobbyist and going viral off, but 5 angers me so much with how stupid it is. . since writing this, I've doubled my play time. I wrote this based on my experience when the game was first released so I gave it another shot. the result was that while i had no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a totally corrupt island dictator while jamming to non-stop salsa music, Tropico 5 is exactly what you need. jumping back into this brings back so many good memories of just chilling out and building my own goofy banana republic. You start with a tiny colonial town and drag it all the way into the modern age by building plantations, slapping down tourist traps, and raking in cash. The best part is just how funny and relaxed the whole vibe is,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/5. Better than six! Cool management game. It's nothing crazy outstanding but it's a good time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've never tire of this game. Played Tropico since I was a child. Mid 30s now. A timeless comfort game I come back to from time to time and rediscover what makes it a gem of a game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Infinitely replayable!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a step back from 4, it feels more hectic and you've got less control and less information while you're encouraged to make the most use out of half a dozen half-baked systems.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gave me 24 hours (and counting) of immersive entertainment. Still haven't beaten the imperialists who are always after my oil, and are constantly trying to instigate regime change. Will learn from NK and just get a nuke so that the globalists can leave me alone. 9/10 - the only minor issue I have is the lack of variety in buildings. It would be nice if there were 2 or even 3 house models to choose from in each category, or the ability to paint them different colours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of my favorite games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a happy dictator, so my citizens MUST be happy as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game had tons of fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Tropico franchise gets way less attention and praise than it deserves - every new release has built on the things that worked in previous versions, while adding plenty of great new content. For that reason, I'll recommend springing straight for the most recent Tropico (at the time of my writing this, Tropico 6 is current).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this might be the best Tropico since 3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →🌴 A Classic That Shows Its Age 🌴 I have great memories of this game from 5–10 years ago. I sunk hours into it, hooked for weeks, playing through the eras from plantations to modern times. 🕰️ Revisiting the Past: Coming back to it now, it definitely feels older and not quite as engaging anymore. I don’t even remember exactly which version I played back then — but I remember it being one of the classics in its genre. 🎭 How You Play Matters: I tend to play as a “good ruler” who tries to do…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is extremely broken. There is no way you can stop the imigrants, even if you play on the easiest setting you will get rebel attacs like every few minutes, you can have like milion empty houses, social policy and morgage policy and you will still have homeless people and there is nothing you can do about it. This game is worth like 3-5 euro price tag at max.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tropico 5 offers a rich and engaging city-building experience that combines political strategy, economic management, and island development with a distinctively humorous and satirical tone. As the latest entry in the beloved Tropico series by Haemimont Games, it expands on its predecessors by introducing new mechanics, a deeper campaign structure, and a broader range of gameplay options that keep both longtime fans and newcomers thoroughly entertained. At its core, Tropico 5 challenges players…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a pretty fun game to play My problems with this game are that it's very linear as there is only two islands without any randomisation and on top of that, it's rather uninformative; the player is not given vital information which can lead you having to go back a few saves.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sooo much variety in content when it comes to campaigns, missions, events, level of detail... ventures... and etc. the complete edition of tropico 5 is one of the most entertaining management, city builder, economy simulators out and still totally holds up in 2026. incredibly fun, detailed, full of depth and unique gameplay systems to play around with. of course this rules with it's sandbox mode... buuuuut the campaigns are nice and well paced, each not overstaying their welcome and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love how all in the devs went for the story mode
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's decent. It lacks the soul, charm, and personality of Tropico 4. The radio announcements and music are watered down from previous levels of catchy songs and humor, but the game is decent as a standalone. If you have to pick just one, go to the 1st one or the 4th one and skip this round.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a downgrade from Tropico 4 in almost every single way imaginable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are willing to put up with 1 crash about every 3 minutes, this can be a very fun game. Look up the Realtek audiobug if you buy this
