60 of 104 · most liked firstWhen I first read about this game it was a dream come true. A Co-op Metroidvania style game! Almost never done before! To my dismay this game did not live up to its promise as such a game. It only took the very core-aspects of that style of game and made it real. Story: The story follows two males who are trapped on "Tristoy" a prison island mean't for those who are traitors to the Iron King. They are forced to work together to secure their escape from Tristoy. For better or for worst the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know how to proceed with this review, I will make it short and simple. I started playing it with my friend, first, we both played with keyboards online, BIG mistake, even if we're separated phisically, we have to use the defined layout controls (In example: WASD for 1st player, arrow keys for the 2nd) that was a big nono. My friend uses a keyboard without numpad, so it was impossible to him to do any action except move, since he couldn't bind any key at all. We had to swap to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cool co-op game! I was lucky enough to win a beta-test version of this game in a giveaway and got to play it a bit ahead of launch here on steam. It was a real treat. (TL;DR at the bottom.) I'm a really big fan of co-op games, especially local co-op as I play them regularly with my wife, and have played most of what's available on steam. This one seems to have that special something that makes it feel like we are actually playing together, and not just going through a single-player game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVUBH7paT1w TRISTOY is a story-driven 2D co-op platformer developed by Uniworlds Game Studios and published Headup Games. The story focuses on two characters: the Prince Freedan and the Wizard Stayn. They are imprisoned on the fortress known as Tristoy. They must escape from the prison and explore the dangerous dungeons of the fortress. During the game, the choices you make will shape how the story unfolds. The game is exclusively made for either local or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, I love this game. My friend and I had a blast playing through this. Even so, this is objectively a bad game. Let's start with the asking price: It's daylight robbery, especially in Europe, even though from what I've heard you get two copies of the game (I got mine for free). The Co-Op is obligatory, so there's no way to play this alone (unless you have very limber feet..). The controls feel like a swamp; jumps are floaty and attacks feel neither satisfactory nor fluid; there is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"It’s disheartening to see a title ripe with potential bursting at the seams with flaws, bugs and generally poorly implemented concepts. The game as a whole may fall flat, but I would still love to see a possible sequel with all its issues worked out. The path to innovation often requires experimentation and Tristoy needs to spend a little more time in the lab." Full Review: http://www.tech-gaming.com/tristoy-review/
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My buddy and I love playing co-op games, and we thought this would be perfect for us. Sadly the idea is cool, the execution was a huge failure though. Not only was the dialogue pretty terrible (especially the Prince's voice acting), but many choices we made didn't matter at all. We would have a conversation, die, then choose a different way to have the conversation and they actually said the EXACT same thing. When we finally got to the end boss all it said was "Script not found", so there…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing a few hours with my brother, (He with a gamepad and me with keyboard), I can say Tristoy is an awesome cooperative experience, It isn't only to kill enemies with a friend, the characters are different and you need the powers and combat skills from your partner to go through the rooms of the game, the cooperative features aren't only for combat because you will find puzzles where you need to split for a bit to help the other player to go to the same point where you are. One thing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN3ls8LwhXY I played an early access version of this game over a month ago, so some of my concerns might not be relevant. However, from what I did play worked well including the online multiplayer, which was a breeze to set up and was seamless the enire time. The artwork and animation tweens are very nice. Bordering on Rayman meets Dragon's Lair animation quality. Tristoy is a pretty cool Co-Op only action-adventure game with a decent narrative that you play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →only play if u have friend who can play with you this is forced co-op game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short version of review: After long pondering and discussions with my coop partner, I decided to recommend Tristoy based on some interesting game mechanics. However, please note several things: First, Tristoy is coop-only game. For the price you get two copies of it, so you can gift one to a friend (and press him for his share later). Coop modes available are local with split-screen and online through Steamworks. I think if you start a game with one friend online then you can’t continue with a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Map layout is werid, results into cheap deaths. Very buggy right now. My parter animation makes my camera shaky. Boss fight won't trigger. Keyboard controls are very clunky.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was not a terrible game, not great but not terrible. There were a few things about this game I enjoyed: Dialouge/decision set up between both players, splitscreen set up was visually appealling, There were a few things that I did not enjoy as well: feels like you nose dive into the end of the game when it seems like your only half way through, labelled as a metroidvania when not really a metroidvania, puzzles are not all that puzzling just the typical run of the mill building blocks…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tristoy is a great achievement, considering its developed by a rather small indie studio. It delivers on all levels, with nice hand-drawn visuals, great story-telling and a unique gameplay experience. The game is designed for coop. That said, if you don't have a friend to play with, or if you prefer competitive games, Tristoy might not be up your alley. However, if you are a fan of the genre you'll find some great innovation in this game. Tristoy may be the first game which supports a dialogue…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tristoy is the reason why i loved co-op games in the first place! You just sit in the couch and play with your friends! The game is really amazing and addictive! I totally recommend it to everyone ! The graphics are really good. The story is amazing and this game will really keep you busy for hours! The concept of the game is captivating... so what are you waiting for? Grab a friend and play Tristoy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TRISTOY is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one is bad for several reasons we'll get into, but first, a special note. This game is one of those terrible games designed such that instead of making a compelling gameplay experience, the developer decided that other people would be the solution to the problem they haven't been able to solve (how to make a good game). This is obviously…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great idea, but it lags too much and half the time the controls for the wizard don't work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sound design and writing are both horribly bad. Sure Symphony of the Night set a pretty laughable bar with its hilarious translation and voice work, but Tristoy's writing isn't even funny is so awful. Both characters are immediately unlikeable and you're forced into entirely vapid, disconnected conversations between the characters and poorly voiced enemies with unfortunate frequency. Other audio has similarly poor design. Gigantic metal wheel puzzle that must be turned with gear magic?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What to say about this game? Well, first of all, the trailer starts with an outright ...uh ...misinformation about the lenght of the journey to expect. My friend and I finished the game in 4 hours without hurrying that much and it's a shame because it builds up the potential for a much longer adventure. Tristoy is a pure coop game für two persons, preferably local because you will have to communicate a lot. This will be a turndown for many who don't have anyone to share the gaming experience…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Forced coop + buggy/clunky gameplay makes this game a pass. Good concept with lots of potential, but poor delivery hinders this game significantly.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At $20 (you get a free copy to give to your friends) This game is NOT worth it. Extremely buggy, glitchy, and very short (which I guess, in this case, is its saving grace). The art direction was very nice, but the gameplay itself is pretty mediocre. This game did have some potential, and I think they could certainly do better, but this one is not worth the purchase.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Welcome to the dungeon fortress Tristoy! How did you get here? An evil emperor has invaded a good kingdom and kidnapped the princess along with the protagonist Freedan in a coup d'état. In the fortress you meet the mage-ghost Stayn, who helps you escape from the dungeon. You also meet the nasty witch Ink, who wants to prevent the same. There are even a handful of dialogues including several decisions. But despite the one or other twist, "trivial" is still exaggerated as an attribute for the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly an amazing game, albeit short. Steam sale had brought this game to my attention. I would have paid full price if i found it. Frustratin game to play at times, but bosses are supposed to be like that. if you want a good co-op where the second pertson is needed for you to progress then it's a must. If you have no freinds to spend an afternoon with, then pass it up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Great game held back a bit by technical difficulties. Still HIGHLY recommended though for fans of co-op. Pros: Well excecuted co-op mechanics and split screen, interesting story (though voice acting is amateur), fun to play in local co-op Cons: Split screen is frustrating in boss battles limiting your view of the boss, poor optimization (had to edit resolution way down to get it to run well), online co-op does not work well Tristoy is an interesting experiment, co-op side scrolling…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After killing spider Jesus he decides that we do not need to proceed with the game, as instead we should gaze upon his might for the rest of eternity. Great game, great story. I rate it 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game need patching - after killing 2nd boss, can't proceed, Jesus stays there in the air after fireworks go off we're just left stuck in the room. we killed ourselves and tried again same thing happened.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love co-op games. I love getting things for free. My friend bought a copy of this for me, and we played it, and I still feel robbed. The game had a lot of good ideas and potential but cashed in on none of it. The gameplay was uninteresting at the best of times, and often broken. The story was lackluster. The voice acting and music were easily the better parts of the game, and even they were not great.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →well, need a friend to play this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, first off, the game is in no way like a metroid vania, i guess other than the combat, but the combat never evolves like a metroidvania style game. There is very little exploration, it is very straightforward with some puzzles here and there. It took maybe 2 hours to go through a full playthrough so for the 15 bucks... it really wasn't a steal. Nice visuals, but sometimes its really annoying because you cannot tell which plane you are on, aka, i want to jump off this platform onto that one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's short (about 2-3 hours with failure taken into account), online multiplayer kind of works (only played with a German friend and no disconnects but slow down from lag every now and then), and the dialogue saves the game. It's funny and the intro movie is the first time I openly laughed at a serious face fantasy cutscene. For $7 I can see it being hard to recommend for the time provided, but already I can see myself playing this game with multiple people and try different pathways with them.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Top notch fun! Wingsuit has a learning curve but is worth it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off my character just keeps running to the left... CONSTANTLY!!!! It's super annoying and there seems to be no way to fix that. It's not my computer. It's not my controller... It's the annoying game. Really clunky to control. The save system is shoddy. Please let me know when you fix this and make it into a normal functioning game. Thaaaanks!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic artwork, great story, wonderful use of interactive dialogue elements. The crippling factor is the iffy platforming detection and buggy gameplay. Still, it's definitely worth experiencing.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely preferable to play with a friend, though the screen screws with the player's movements when it splits. All in all, interesting concept and decent story. Wasn't necessary for it to be co-op exclusive for such a short game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It could be an okay short game if the technical issues were sorted out and the game implemented the basic feature of rebinding of inputs. If the inputs were not so spread apart, they could be properly one-handed. For example, Z-X-C instead of H-J-K. Note that buying the game automatically gives you a giftable copy of the game in your Steam inventory like it is mentioned in the store page description. You essentially get two copies of the game instead of one. When I start the game, there is…
