Even though we wish the game's story wasn't still so damn relevant, we want to celebrate this day with you today. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PATk... 🧵

It gets dark but I found exploring the different resistance tactics interactively really fascinating.

Something we had to censor though, to get a lower age rating internationally was smoking. 1000nds of cigarettes had to be removed before release.

But, as art, games can provide profound social commentary We recommend “Through the Darkest of Times" - a historical resistance game set in 1933 Berlin bit.ly/3ZrpJ9i

I think (hope) it testifies to the power of the game. #gamingthepast

For MWH video games I think maybe Through the Darkest of Times by PaintBucket. Both for similar reasons: they're specific & fit well in the course for critical thinking. Thanks for asking!
unlabelledView post →«Through the Darkest of Times» is a historical resistance strategy game, focusing on conveying the somber mood of the period and the very real struggles of average people living in the 3rd Reich.
unlabelledView post →Through the Darkest of Times from @handy-games.com and @paintbucket.de is a unique historical game that casts the player as a resistance leader during the Nazi uprising in 1933 Berlin. Manage resources, recruit followers, and undermine the regime while evading capture.
unlabelledView post →For reasons, I did not ask students to purchase copies of Through the Darkest of Times, a terrific game when studying rise of Nazis & the horrors of racist fascism. So, we are playing as a class to see what we can get out of it (collectively playing that is) paintbucket.de/en/game/thro...
unlabelledView post →Paintbucket Games already dealt with this in "Through the Darkest of Times" and "The Darkest Files", no? One of their games was even the first game in Germany that officially allowed to show swastikas in a historical context, yet both got a 12+ rating. I remember some headlines at least years ago.

unlabelledView post →The Darkest Files: From the makers of "Through the Darkest of Times" comes another game dealing with Nazi Germany, in this case the judical aftermath. Heavy material, will hopefully not hold back or romanticise after-war Germany. store.steampowered.com/app/1003090/...
unlabelledView post →You can find this in other games. The Nazi-RESISTANCE (feels like it should be capitalized these days) game, Through the Darkest of Times, has an attenuated victory. You can resist the German Nazi's and survive while doing so, but you cannot stop the Shoah. Powerfully attenuated victory here. 5/

unlabelledView post →That being said, I don't think this is a hot take. Also, while its not entirely what you want because you are still playing as the resistance, I think the game "Through the Darkest of Times" does a pretty good job of showcasing people shifting around you in this way, and the hardship of resistance.
unlabelledView post →www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl2v... Through the Darkest of Times- Bit of a strategy game where you play a resistance group during Hitler's rise to power, which sounds real grim and depressing, and may well get there eventually, but at least early on it manages to be surprisingly upbeat all considered.
unlabelledView post →Great question! 1st I'd pick a game in part based on class size. With that many people I would want probably a strategy game with clear interface so students could see what was happening from a projection/big monitor. Through the Darkest of Times, When Rivers Were Trails, maybe Nebuchadnezzar. 1/
