60 of 102 · most liked firstThis is the game to buy if you are a WW2 maniac like me. Though there isn't that much hardware that you can get your hands on the stuff that you do get is very well modelled. M3 medium tanks are my favorite because it's so fun to see them roll down a hill mowing down infantry with their MG turret, shooting an armored car with their 37mm, and shooting a pzIII with their 75mm. It is a shame that there aren't more vehicles. The only British vehicle that appears is the valentine (Only one that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is bad, really really bad one of the worst strategy games I have every played. Let us talk about the selling points of the product 1. The AI The ghost in Pac man probably are more complex than the AI in this game. a. There is no path finding. For example units will not follow roads, even in cases where you start them on roads, but will head in a straight line to their destination unit they hit something and must turn. There is a stage where you fight on the road between high…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great. Good mix of Empire Total War (controlling AI), and CoH [Company of Heroes] (Independent AI). Good game for anyone who loves hardcore strategy, realism, or just having fun with history. Graphics are stunning and the realism is mindblowing, this game going all the way down to naming each and every bot, with non repeating names! Highly suggest for anyone, worth the money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Might be a bit challenging for casual strategy players.. But the details on realism makes this game a pretty awesome !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game for tank lovers (like me), and military history Fanatics. Pros *Intensely detailed Units and Environment *The most Realistic Tank Physics I've ever seen *Has a lot of tactics and strategies to defend and attack *Pretty Awesome graphics when maxxed out *There is a map editor Cons *Lacks replayability, like skirmish maps *Needs more players in Multiplayer *Some infantry are wusses Recommended price- If you can get it at 50% or below, buy it! 8.5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An excellent balance between Arcade and Simulation on the North African front of WWII. Rating - should to try: (9.0 out of 10) Pros: ✅Incredibly low price for such a good project. ✅The presence of Italian troops in the game, completely changes the gameplay, you understand that your troops are worse in everything, the tanks’ guns are weak, the armor is terrible, and there are very few armor-piercing shells for tank destroyers (only they can penetrate Sherman tanks). Sadly Italy wasn’t added…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The choice of deployable units is somewhat limited, the vehicle, terrain and building damage physics are pretty detailed (tanks can be disabled in a number of ways, buildings can be either partially or completely destroyed, aircraft bombs, artillery and tank rounds leave craters in the terrain), the only downside is the length of the campaign (there are quite a few campaign choices) but they're all less than 10 missions long. By far though this is a very decent game and i would recommend it to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is STILL incredibly good for it's time. I recently purchased the battlefront Combat missions black sea and red thunder, and to MY taste, I still like the theater of war games a little bit more. And yes, you can't beat the price on theater of war series, compared to the almost $100 I just paid for black sea and red thunder.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best war games/RTS I've played This is a game for a niche audience, I find it understandable that many players don't like it, but if you like "realistic" RTS, spam saving, and micromanaging the smallest details, then this might be the game for you. Similar to Sudden Strike or Blitzkrieg series, you don't have any base building nor recruit units, you play a mission with a set amount of troops and reinforcements. You can upgrade your units across missions and the infantry can capture…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love how you can try out some italian tanks ^^
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pro Tip; Spam LMB as soon as you launch the game, otherwise your ears will suffer. Trust.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thought this game would be fun. I thought it had a lot of potential and it does. However, the AI breaks this game. Also getting notified everytime someone does is cancer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very disappointing game, with a horrible camera and rather stupid AI and almost no environment to work with. You also get thrown in different scenarios and can't work with the most of your units (you should at least be able to build some defences). The idea behind the game is great tho, but the implemantatio is rather poor.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started tutorial. Found out its not a tutorial, couse they explain litarally nothing. Objektive - Go Solider - Find out your self how. And this can take a while. More then ever, u will have to ask your self: is it a bug? or is it an intendet feature? Couse theese units do some weird ♥♥♥♥. Then u loose your first solider in a 100+ man fight over 4km² with mutible Tanks and Artilliry pices; and the game stops, zooms in to the max lvl and tells u then very unfortunaly this ONE solider had to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Theatre of War 2: Africa 1943" is an ancient game from 2009. It's a whopping 15 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for the typical features of modern gaming PCs, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on contemporary machines. The game looks and feels dated. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an old game. This seems to have be lingering on Steam with an inflated price to try profit from abandonware. This is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Theatre of War 2: Africa 1943 is a sequel to the original Theatre of War; set during the later stages of the war in North Africa, particularly in Tunisia, Players engage in tough desert, canyon, and suburban battles either in one of three campaigns or in multiplayer against other players accomplishing objectives to achieve victory. Being a Real-Time Tactics game, ToW2 features the management of divisions, regiments, and an army via pre-battle preparation, mission interludes, and post-battle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are looking for a World War 2 game which takes place in the North African campaign then sure, this game is for you. The game offers 3 campaign modes: Germany which offers 6 missions, Great Britain which has only 4 missions and the United States with 5 missions, plus a DLC for 1,99€ which includes a Italian campaign. However, the AI handling is terrible. The game has multiplayer but it's very very hard to get it to work. You have to download some sort of software and have to set it up…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really love games where you get to pick out your units and outfit them with specific weapons and have tactical battles between your teams in neat environments and what not. Saw gameplay of this and thought it could be fun. It is not. The AI is just terrible. -Had a german MP40 gunner pinned in a building, he ran outside and my entire squad ran around and took cover in different positions, crouched, stood up, all the actions they could possibly do except shoot. Dude ran into the desert and we…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Theatre of War 2 is not for everyone. You either like it or you don't, as the game is more focused for young adults and above. It is one of those games that you have to read the manual before you play, but it is very rewarding once you understand the mechanics as it has a moral system as well as realistic line of sight and armor penetration. It is an excellent game, but only for those who are looking for this particular type of RTS. The only annoying aspect is the pausing when a unit dies, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's very annoying every time a single soldier of your side got killed, the game automatically pauses and reports the K.I.A. status. Imagine in one battle how many times the game pauses itself and you have to unpause it, like 20+ times, which is insane. And i have checked the option menu, there is no where to disable it. It's playable but very annoying game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As some people have said, previous steam versions seem better then earlier non steam versions. Not surprising really, all fully patched etc. I am coming (back) to this from Graviteam games, which i have to say are better IMHO but direct comparisons are perhaps unfair as Graviteam are not strict RTS more war simulators. However, i now better understand the trickle down chain of command and fog or war aspects better coming from Graviteam rather than say CoH type games which are very different in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked this game when I encountered it some time ago and it a classic realistic WW2 RTS for me. Eugen's Steel Division 2 did produce some associations with Theatre of War (while their Wagame series reminded me heavily of World in Conflict and I really appreciated that they filled this niche after WiC died for some reason). In general, ST2 is a superior game, of course, but ToW has some interesting campaigns with an option to keep your units like in Panzer General - something ST2 does…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ever thought how annoying it was that everytime a soldier dies it always paused and went to the dead soldier? Well not to worry as i found out that if you start theatre of war up and go to configure you can turn that annoying pause time by clicking smart pause and untick. It there you go you can now watch in peace while your soldier's mow down those enemys and have the satisfaction of not having to F*CK*NG unpauce the game everytime a soldier dies!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ALL the problems with the first ToW have NOT been addressed. You are still not in full control of your own troops, and are at the full mercy of the disgusting spaasticated AI to handle your troops, either that or you constantly have to micromanage every single inch of their behaviour. ToW2 would really be served better by being turned based IMO. The supplied campaigns and scenarios are still just stupid beyond ALL words. The enemy AI is also still just as spaastic, and the same lazy, piss poor…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game overall. BUT With that there is a huge con you can't use the tanks and vehicles in the Centauro DLC if you have it which is sad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buyer Beware- Cannot get this version of the game to work. Unable to find work around, Not Compatible with New OS
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game especially given it's age. I like the large maps and the ability to fight at long range which is realistic. When you zoom in the detail is very good. The only thing I didn't like is every time one of your troops is killed the game paused and zoomed into that area which can be a little disorienting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lost my 3 platoon of Italian Tanks vs 1 US M4A1 tanks. Historically 10/10. Game is frustrating sometime but fun most of it !

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Own AI soldiers behaves like complete imbeciles. example. An enemy machine gunner is in a house, my squad is marching down the street. I see the machine gunner and order my squad 10 people to attack him. Now following situation unfolds Machine gunner stands inside the door and shoots at the squad kills everyone in the squad without the squad doing anything about him shooting them. I loose the entire squad, the squad behaviour was wedge formation, fire at will etc. Realistic war simulation?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have only 3 hours in this game but I have 20 hours in ToW3 Korea and 25 hours in ToW. This is a saga I really wanted to like, however it feels very unpolished and laggy even with graphics at low. The missions feel impossible with these controls. I played the first mission in the german campaign, first half was very easy, but then after you capture the objective, you get attacked by bombers then by tanks, and then by bombers again. I suppose there is a logic in the game and once you find it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing! It is just like playing with plastic soldiers! I would recommend Theatre of War more than Theatre of War 2, but Theatre of War doesn't work on most computers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completed the first mission on easy with only 1 scout car left but gave up 1/2 way through the second mission. AI & pathfinding is supremely frustrating, enemy are crack-shots but your own troops can't hit a thing, units often don't do what you order them to do, sometimes it won't allow you to shoot a target for no reason... Definitely not recommended. 4 / 10 pith helmets
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Theatre of War 2 isn't a fun game. It is a diehard realistic tactical warfare simulator-RTS. There are people who enjoy these kind of unwieldy games, for example people who like to play ARMA or people who like to play Hearts of Iron. This is not for everyone, but if you are one of those aforementioned people, you will have a blast with this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I decieded to ignore the negative feedback and give this game ago, un fortunatly, though looked good, was un playable, whether it`s a software issue or (having run into probs with windows10) a windows issue i have no idea, all that can be said is the game runs irratic, cannot select objects etc on one load up, next time it will freeze etc hence why it was being sold real cheap, maybe. all in all please just avoid, plenty of other war games out there that do work....

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm so happy that this work flawlessly on Linux!! I've purchased all ToW games a few months ago while I was still using W11 and no matter the fix I tried (spent DAYS trying to get it working well) I couldn't get this game to keep more than 30~40 FPS stable (no matter if 1st or 2nd game, both ran very poorly). First install on Linux (Nobara that comes with gaming stuff pre-installed) got this thing working right out of the box 60fps stable, no problemo
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Theatre of War 2: Africa 1943 is a demanding, realism-driven tactical strategy experience that places players squarely in the unforgiving conditions of the North African campaign during World War II. Developed by 1C and published on Steam by Fulqrum Publishing, the game builds on the foundation of the original Theatre of War by refining its mechanics and focusing them into a more cohesive, scenario-based depiction of mid-war desert combat. It is unapologetically methodical, favoring historical…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Africa 1943: where sand, sun, and suffering meet under the bright flag of ‘your tank AI just reversed into a minefield again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Precursor to the Men of War series to some degree. Gameplay has a very similar layout (start with a group of units, make them complete objectives), but the interface is more similar to "Combat Mission" than MOW. There is some nice continuity where your units gain skills and ranks from one battle to the next, giving you incentive to keep them alive. Overall the game is a slog, but it ultimately rewards your strategic thinking and bold decision-making. If you are an avid MOW enjoyer and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why can I leave a review, I don't even own this game?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Essentially it is Men of War with all the fun taken out of it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not bad games and it captures the historical realities of World War II quite well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just got this game the other day, and I really love the realistic RTS gameplay of this game, slow mitotical combat, it's awesome it absolutely is, I can't even find any games similar to this. BUT I NEED HELP, the game crashes constantly. I tried everything, compatibility mode, run as admin, changing certain settings in the nvidia control panel, etc. But nothing helps. It literally crashes every few minutes. If someone knows anything, please let me know. Playing on Win10 desktop PC, RTX2080,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It takes a little getting used to for those not used to the ToW series, the AI and pathfinding are bad and without heavy microing your units will wander aimlessly and die. It has balancing issues like MGs being laser accurate and infantry being generally useless. The gameplay revolves around your heavy units: artillery, AT guns and most of all tanks, those do work and the gameplay with them is fun. Overall its a bit awkward and unpolished game but if you're willing to make it work and play…
