58 of 58 · most liked firstThis game was well designed, it never felt like I was over-powered, and I was always having to think about combat even up to the end of the game. I really like the writing also - it was clever and engaging. The party banter was quite funny in spots (you can listen in on their thoughts sometimes). It's an rpg-maker game, so if that bothers you, this may not be your cup of tea. If however, you like playing a challenging game that is both funny and clever, then you will enjoy it. I did. Game time…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Generic grinding combat paired with a story that keeps telling you to go grind. Remarkably poor writing on a technical level combined with absolutely no sense of subtlety, as Jerrat tells the player that he loves his family and will be sad now that they're dead and swears revenge because he is angry and is bad at fighting because he is a common man, as the story then poorly meshes with the gameplay as Jerrat proceeds to have trouble beating up rats despite regularly going to the forest to pick…

Difficult Achievement(s): No. Intro The Tale of a Common Man is an RPG Maker game where you play as a farmer and never do any farming-related job in the whole game. It is a combat-focused, turn-based RPG Maker game where you are in a party with people from varied backgrounds with their purposes. Pros: - Use up to 8 characters in a party of 5 in battle - 4…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From Aldorlea comes this game that has everything fans of the 16 bit style RPGs could ask for. - A great story that draws you in immediately with an early terrible event that sets everything in motion ---- the murder of a "common" farmer's (Jerrat) family that sets him on a course of revenge that will take him on a long journey of discovery and adventure. Aldorlea always gives us great storytelling, and this one is exceptional. - Excellent artwork that completely matches the events that are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just beat it on the hardest mode! Loveable characters, beautiful story, engaging combat, lots of stategy (or you can level grind), potion making is great! The world, I wish there was another game in this world! This game is worth at least 15$, I swear, I really became attatched to the characters! And its so well written, the character sprites look phenomenal! Truly, a MUST PLAY game, go for it, buy it, its fantastic! :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ Brilliant and witty dialogues + Great and memmorable character cast, developing through the game + Challenging and well balanced on the Legendary mode + Enjoyable battles and music - Not as long as some other similar games - Lacks more variety of weapons P.s. I played this game from Aldorlea, prior to the Steam release.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a soft spot in my heart for RPGMaker games, so here's another of them! Good story, good hero, cute game. Kinda short and I missed a few things just due to getting a little bit pulled through by the story, but overall very fun. Definitely recommended if you like these kind of games like I do. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →well worth the money and sooo many side quests i missed several aparently and still finished the game will have to hope for a walkthrough or guide to see exactly how many i missed lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SUCH A GOOD GAME!!! to put this into perspective for you, I have beaten more than half of the Final fantasy games, five of the legend of zelda games, and around nineteen other JRPGs/RPGs. AND THIS GAME IS IN MY TOP 3. So far, that is. Amazing. Just. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Amazing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was hooked on the game of «Aldorlea Games». Previously I did not play in the RPG on the engine RPG Maker. Now I catch the output of each new game from them. Fans of the genre will recognize me. In «The Tale of a Common Man» I liked the story. Though he is banal, but rather tragic. The history of the common man of the people, a simple farmer on the path of vengeance, to avenge the death of his wife and son. The graphics in the game has pleased me. Of course it's not the most outstanding, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite an interestign game. However do not worth the full price. The game is slow and repetitive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Again new game from Aldorlea Games studio which is famous for the games made in RPG Maker This time we play for the person, engaged in a farm by the name of Jerrat which because of the death of the wife and the son, gives up peaceful life and goes to revenge Pluses: 1. There is a possibility of the choice of complexity, and also in advance is explained by what is difficult, each of difficulties 2. Beautiful music 3. Achievements and collection Steam cards 4. Support of gamepad 5. Dialogues…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Tale of a Common Man - a new game made in the tradition of RPG Maker`a, in 16-bit style. You have to play for an ordinary person to plunge into his adventures. + Seven characters and one extra. + The five characters in the game will provide strategic depth gameplay. + The ability to move in eight directions using the mouse and keyboard. + The title screen will change with each character found. + 17 side quests. + 30 secret rooms. + Over thirty hours of exciting gameplay. + Creating recipes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New RPG game from a studio that seems to be making only rpg games - and they are getting better and better with time. This time we even have a difficulty selection - and i've never met this feature before in RPG games. Tale of a common man is a story about a usual "little man" that tries to change a life of a whole nation, this is about a place of a person in history, this is about moral principles and values.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished Tale Of A Common Man some 47 hours later. This game does not let you down. Artwork excellent, involvement total. Characters true to life. Steam achievements. Enough main characters as the game progresses to chop and change who will be in your party (did I say characters). A most unlikely set of adventures each with their own priorities brought together. It worked for me. However, it certainly made me think about the out-come. The developers I feel got it right. For me I would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play this game if you're looking for something short (10 hours), simple, and charming. I was satisfied at least, and I challenge you to avoid making it through the ending without at least smirking. Screw distilling poitions though. Whoever thought that system was even remotely usable needs to get kicked out of the industry.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game honestly took me longer than expected to complete. I just completed the game and the only thing I can say is that I was over prepared for the final battle. The dungeon bosses prior to the final area were way stronger than all the opponents in there. Definitely enjoyed the game play, story and finding the secret rooms. Overall, good game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed this game. I like that we get to see a lot of the inner thoughts of the characters, and watch their personal progression. Combat was decent, good pixel art, though the outfits were silly nonsense. Good ending. I like that there was a lot of world I didn't get to visit, as the characters had good reason to not just wander half a continent away -- they were on a deadline. Yet those areas existed anyway, to give the world life. There's more towns and cities than you can visit.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting storyline with standard turn based fighting. The battle potion creation was a nice addition. Controller support would of been nice.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Developers once again pleased with the new and extremely topical rpg. Plot of us says : On the common man who wants to avenge the murder of his wife and son . Just like eye pleasing graphics, very well prescribed dialogue and interesting characters . Normally I'm not a fan of games made in the rpg maker, but this is the moment when the game really liked .
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Makes me think of some of the old games I used to have on my gameboy, would recommend to anyone who loves RPGMaker games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I really liked the first two-thirds of the story the last third just seemed like a rush to the end. The characters where decent at best where I only liked the survivor and the bodyguard. The story had a good start where I enjoyed the dialogue. Out of 14 hours played I spent three hours reloading old saves to finish each side quest and secret location I missed with mixed results. I found the quests worthwhile for fun but never really found anything exciting in the secret locations…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Normally Aldorlea make good games, but this is an awful, buggy mess. There are some nice ideas here, but this one really needs more time in the oven. Also the art isn't great. Stopped playing when the game bugged out and froze. Which as you can see was only 15 minutes in.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've always been a huge fan of RPG Maker games and this has got to be my favorite out of all the games sold by Aldorlea. I found the storyline is refreshing and new, the characters were also funny and entertaining, but not in a cheesy way, unlike other RPG games unforunately.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed it. I was surprised by how good a game it was to be honest. I really enjoyed the dialogue between the characters and the fact that you could see what characters were thinking at given points was a great way to give them more life. Combat is ok...it gets deeper as the the game progresses. Satisfying end to the story. The only qualm I have is the respawning enemies when you leave a map and come back to it. Fighting the same types of monsters over and over on certain tilesets can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another Aldorlea game in the bag so time for a review! This game is harder to quantify than those before it since for example Dreamscape has a better battle system in my opinion, but this game has a far better story. Although again a simple one. The emotion put into the performance both sad and happy at times is what made this game. On the other hand this game has the flaw of you really need the guide for it the secret rooms are sometimes a little too well hidden. But this does not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recently played the game and finished it on normal mode. I liked the following: 1) Interesting and fun conversations between each characters. 2) Character's thoughts are conveyed throughout the game, which makes the content and gameplay enjoyable. 3) Interesting system where you cannot just barge into civilian's houses and loot (like your average classic RPGs ;D) 4) The stroy was quite short in my perspective, but the storyline do just go straight to the point. Suggestions for the game: (a)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a pretty fun little Jrpg. So, the story is pretty simple but fun enough and it is all wrapped up pretty well. It isn't anything amazing tough and neither are the character, they are not bad but really nothing special either. Also some of the stories are a bit rushed so to speak. Like I said, all wraps up at the end but it feels a bit forced in some cases, not to much tough so no worry there. What I just found a bit strange is the Protagonist in that case. The game wants to go with the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old school JRPG with turn based fighting and points to spend when you level up. That's the itch I look to scratch, and so rarely does a game do it so well. I loved almost everything about this game. Almost. I didn't like being forced down a path, and restricted from certain areas. Not being allowed to back track and explore kind of irritated me, but it really became a problem when I couldn't get passed a certain part in the story because I didn't put any DEF onto a certain character, causing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game starts with tragedy. A roving army has lost some of its food supplies, so they pillage a local farm for supplies... and kill a woman and baby. Unfortunately for them they missed their husband/father, who was working in the fields... and now he's out for blood. Thus a common farmer is thrust into a epic adventure of revenge and saving the world (because waht else do you need?). Can he complete this task without losing the man who his wife loved? Looks fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A loving father farmer will put up a fence, while pitiless soldiers will steal them. A drama occurs and the farmer swears to revenge. This focus will change in the end ;) The team is touching, of whom a shy man of the woods except for a haughty knight. The player should read the dialogue carefully to notice a scheme. You have also inner thoughts for some which is a first in a game for me. Jerrat’s life lessons to Aaydan are great. Jerrat the victim made a lesson to the bad boss, it shows a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Tale of a Common Man-a game in 16-bit format, is very well drawn chart, in the story, you the average person, the most that neither is ordinary) the ordinary farmer, whether he entrusted to him the mission. Find out the story of an ordinary farmer, who changed the fate of an entire people!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*first it's up to you whether you believe this review or not (for my short playtime online), don't judge me for playing offline :3 The story is beautiful, and the character development for all party member are constructed really well. I've been following Aldorlea since i can't remember, and i can say their stories are those of best quality among RPG Maker games. The Tale of a Common Man..... a story about protecting each other, about realization, and everyone's effort to get over their dark…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Tale of a Common Man, developed and published by Aldorlea Games, is a deliberately old-school role-playing experience that embraces the spirit of classic 16-bit era JRPGs while layering in modern conveniences and a surprisingly ambitious scope. At its heart is a story rooted in personal tragedy rather than grand prophecy. The protagonist, Jerrat, begins not as a chosen hero or royal heir, but as a simple farmer whose quiet life is destroyed by violence. The loss of his family becomes the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting storyline with standard turn based fighting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice rpg in typical fashion. It has a bittersweet story. The characters are interesting, and talented fighters. I recommend playing this game through as the ending is worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While there were a few gameplay bugs that prevented me from finishing a quest and getting all of the secret rooms, I did enjoy my time here in Galehar! If you're a fan of games like the Aveyond and Millennium series, you'll probably have about as much fun as I did. I picked this up for 99 cents on a Steam sale and I think it was worth a few dollars (and hours) of my time. Is it the greatest RPG Maker game? Heavens no, but was it awful? Nope! I've played games that were half as unplayable as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played a lot of smaller scale indie/RPG maker games, some of them are bad or totally generic but this one stands out as having had a particular amount of love put into it. The story is a relatively standard arc about you Jerrat the farmer having your farm destroyed and family killed, and setting off on a journey to bring the people responsible to justice. You'll meet many other party members along the way that join your quest for various reasons, and I have to say I took a liking to most…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good story but hard to find gears over all good for the price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is really fun and the story is compelling!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lovely RPG with well written characters. The story is decent, but could have more in-depth 'feels' at some parts in the story. I bought the game on sale and it was worth every penny! I had a lot of fun playing it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →already finish the game , decent game ..all i want to say, nice placement secret room i got everything of them in 1st try in hard mode, for whoever play game in normal game .. is weak ass man YOU WEAK YEAH YOU!!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorites. Old school RPG.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome. Great story, very well designed gameplay and well balanced challenge. Not the longest Aldorlea rpg , but 16 hours is a decent length and it's well paced without any grinding or repetitive gameplay. Also i believe one of his first attempts at rpg vx ace, so it's interesting to see how his game designed translated to the new engine: Really well, lots of unique scripts.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started my journey with Aldorlea with A Timely Intervention. I was stunned at the story line, characters, and game play. So after that journey I decided to continue with A Tale of a Common man. Aldorlea Games thank you. A good story line, with amusing characters, and well display of game control. I play Legendary mood and it gives me enough challenge not to be overwhelm yet at the same time keeps up a good challenge. There is nothing I can say bad about this game besides maybe better last…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found this game quite enjoyably. I only wish the enemies did not respawn when you left an area. I would recommend you give this game a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a lot of fun. The story was well told with complications and humor. It has just what I like in a 2D rpg. Whether the game is rpg maker or original, for me, it is the story that brings the graphics to life and where I have my fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great guide thank you neko
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has allot spunk and character, and it's definitely better than (most) free RGPMaker game. If you like RGPMaker games and see it on sale: definitely grab it. GOOD: good music, EXCELLENT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, good story, good art, good battle choices/balance, not too much grinding, mazes are not too darn big. I'm many hours in and the game hasn't slacked off one bit. I got it on sale (2 or 3 $) I didn't pay $10 for it. Comparing it to other $10 games is not what this rating is about.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As usual Aldorlea Games does not disappoint. Brilliant game with irreplaceable humor and interesting characters whose story you want to learn. Worth every penny!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like all games by Aldorlea Games. This one is very good and fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple RPG that you can make as hard or as easy as you want. It has a great story with characters you care about.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly love characters development in this game so much. It started with a main character who sought revenge on the one who murdered his family. But after a long journey, he calmed down and realized what he should do so that he won't lose his humanity and did the the same thing as his enemy. I like that development so much, and the cut scenes of having a conversation along the road felt so refreshing. About game play, I think it was a bit difficult because there was no proper healing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good for an rpgmaker game. It's short 10-15 hours but for what it is that's a good thing. The writing for the plot and are decent(better than a lot of mainstream games in my opinion). The crafting system is exhaustive but i didn't use most of it. Legendary difficulty is funny because every turn I would watch my characters health bar go down to critical then zoom back up(or not), but with item spamming and clever us of skills I could push through any fight. 5.5/10 rating worth getting for a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very enjoyable game. It does start out a bit slow, and you have to grind quite a bit, but there are secrets and quests galore, and lots of other stuff to do. I am on 35 hours playing the game as I had to back up a few times because I missed some timed quests. I am not fond of timed quests that you can't go back to do. But, creative save points easily make up for that shortcoming. Storyline is compelling, and I can wait to see how the rest unfolds. Hoping for a happy ending!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game very much. hope you make another one like this. verygood game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not an incredible experience, but a good one. The combat is good and balanced. The characters and story is interesting. If you can get it on sale then you will get much more than your money's worth.
