Joe (Captain America: The First Avenger) Johnston’s “The Rocketeer” starring Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin & Timothy Dalton. Like “Cap”, it’s not just a comic book movie, it’s a period piece! #TonightsFilmSelection
unlabelledView post →The iconic art deco movie poster designed by John Mattos was cited by Disney as a key issue in the marketing for THE ROCKETEER (1991) as it was a mysterious image that didn’t showcase the cast enough. Funny enough, this is exactly what made me want to see the film originally.
unlabelledView post →Now is as good a time as any to remind you that THE ROCKETEER (1991) was the best comic book movie franchise we never got. Soaring pulp adventure over an Old Hollywood backdrop, a top tier James Horner score. Oh and there's even Jon Polito!
unlabelledView post →THE ROCKETEER (1991) It may have underperformed so badly that all plans for sequels were abandoned, but this Disney superhero Movie is terrific.
unlabelledView post →Saw a post mentioning the Rocketeer and I cannot resist jumping in about working on that movie. I am absurdly proud of that even after all this time.
unlabelledView post →In honor of the 35th anniversary of The Rocketeer later this month, the El Capitan Theatre hosted a special one night only screening of the film where the Walt Disney Archives displayed The Rocketeer’s, a.k.a. Cliff Secord’s, iconic costume, helmet, and jetpack.
unlabelledView post →If there was ever a critic’s pull quote that summed up Disney’s hopes for THE ROCKETEER (1991) it was this one.
unlabelledView post →As far as memorable movie landmarks that successfully adapt comic book iconography go, the Bulldog Cafe in THE ROCKETEER (1991) is a sterling accomplishment
unlabelledView post →Great story from the making of THE ROCKETEER (1991). After saving a victim, The Rocketeer was to land in wet cement in front of the Chinese Theater (to be shot at Disney-MGM Studios) & take off again leaving blast marks. The scene got cut but the blast marks & the opening date of the movie made it.

unlabelledView post →My honest assessment (sight unseen, still) of "SUPERMAN" is that the whole property is in the best hands in may ever have been in, overall. My honest *worry* about it is that you can do every single thing right and the audience might not reward you (see: "THE ROCKETEER" or recent "D&D" movie)

unlabelledView post →#3: The Rocketeer (1991) In the 1990s, in a time before Marvel's monoculture, there was a wave of movies inspired by the pulpy radio serials and comics of the 1930s. "The Rocketeer" is tied for the best among them: an all-American barnstormer throwing haymakers at Timothy Dalton's too-suave Nazi.
unlabelledView post →Tonight's viewing: THE ROCKETEER (1991) This movie should have made a billion dollars. There should be 17 ROCKETEER movies. The RCU (Rocketeer Cinematic Universe) should be in Phase Eleven by now. There should be 4 separate team up movies with THE ROCKETEER by now.

unlabelledView post →Can we all take a minute to agree that the Rocketeer is probably one of the best examples of movie making in the last 40 years. Everything about it is tight, perfectly scored and charming.
unlabelledView post →"The Rocketeer" is the first movie in the MCU. I will not be taking further questions at this time.
unlabelledView post →Ordered some food for dinner and felt like watching some fun, escapist fare. “The Rocketeer” (1991), based on the series by Dave Stevens (who has a cameo in this movie). Great cast and story, plus I like the overall aesthetic of the film.
unlabelledView post →It's true, "The Rocketeer" underperformed when it was released in the summer of 1991 -- underperformed bigly After the box office of the first week was announced, Disney canceled the planned trilogy. It didn't measure up to the $42M opening of Batman from 1989 or $22M of Dick Tracy from 1990.

The Rocketeer wasn't loved much back in 1991, yet focusing on ordinary Americans fighting back against the corruption of a 'bad actor', this retro-themed action movie evokes real nostalgia today. 4 out of 5. film-authority.com/2026/06/05/t...

unlabelledView post →INKTOBER DAY 16 The ROCKETEER Many of us met the character born in Dave Stevens’ comics as children in the Disney film released in the early 1990s. It’s a very generational product, and closely linked to the boom of heroic characters from early/mid XX century during 80’s

unlabelledView post →Not a single time of Spider-Man landing in front of an American flag in film has EVER been as emotionally effective as The Rocketeer jetting off to defend the old Red White and Blue. Because this was, at the time, earnest and completely uncynical.

unlabelledView post →I'm shocked that no one has mentioned the Rocketeer. It's a cult movie about an out-of-work pilot and his mechanic who find a jetpack. They want to use it to try and fly more airshows and get out of debt. But the mob wants it back because they stole it for a Hollywood movie star, who's secretly a Nazi spy. And the FBI wants it because they want it back to keep it out of the hands of the Nazis. Meanwhile, the dude is just trying his best to survive, and accidentally ends up being a superhero.…

unlabelledView post →The film is a well animated and designed and not the worst but the story after it ended just in the credits is the film they should made where it gose full on The Rocketeer and as much diesel as it is steam and a real strong art deco inspired look. Shame we didn’t get both.
