Gameplay / Story Private investigator Alan P. Cameron has been hired to investigate a number of supernatural phenomena at Devil’s Ridge Manor. Once lonely and peaceful in the Scottish Highlands north of Loch Ness, weird events and supernatural phenomena have recently taken place at Devil’s Ridge Manor. Explore the medieval castle, a secret laboratory, and even…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad little point and click adventure game with a bit of an annoyance in it forcing you to do everything in the correct order by locking doors. Its an older title so the graphics are forgivable and if im honest sometimes rather funny, I still think the main character looks like a basset hound. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an older game so don't expect quality graphics; however, the sound really added to the atmosphere and I loved exploring an old Scottish castle and it's grounds. I love point & click adventures games and I only got stuck once. This game gave me about 9 hours of gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PROS: CONS: - Dull plot - Confusing puzzles - Bad interface - Bad graphics - Bad animations - Bad voice acting - Bad music - Annoying movement system - Short
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really hate this game! I'm generally a fan of point and click adventures and yes, I know I just don't have the patience for some of the failings I was used to at their height in the 90s but this game is still horrible! By the end of it I was screaming at the screen in anger and frustration. I then resorted to online walkthroughs so that such a poor excuse for a game did not defeat me. My main objections are below (warning there are some spoilers): 1. There is no tutorial. I was just…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember having this game when i was ~11, me and my mom played it and got pretty far. Nolstalgia is pretty much the only reason i bought it, because objectively it's a bad game. Back then and now the only real driving factor is an odd compulsion to keep playing. I seriously don't know why this game has such a strong hold over me, my best guess is that like Myst, advancing after hours of brain numming searching is spiritually rewarding. That said i can only recomend this game to people who…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Received it in a Steam Bundle. Still regret to hvae it. Graphics are horrible. Voice acting (in FR) is horrible. Movement is horrible. If you love point 'n click (even good oldies) but never played this one, run. Only thing that can justify playing this game is probably some's people nostalgia.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was a blind purchase in a bundle with Scratches. A few months ago, I decided to give it a shot. I wasn't disappointed. The game is a bit fantastical with a touch of a Sherlock Holmes-esque feel to it. If you enjoy Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, you may very well enjoy this. It is a touch confusing at times, and I did occasionally need to consult a walkthrough for some of the timed portions. The mystery is enough to keep you engaged and interested to the end, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am so happy to play this game again. I still have my copy on disk, but wanted to try Steams version. I am pleased to say the grapics have improved. The game plays without any hiccups are stalls. I have played an hour and a half so far on my computer with Windows 7 64. If you love playing the older games, get this while its on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly fun and a good tale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"The Cameron Files: The Secret at Loch Ness" is an ancient game from 2001. It's a whopping 22 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks proper widescreen aspect ratio support (it's locked at 4:3) or support for any modern gaming display resolutions, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically a family friendly version of Dracula: Resurrection, which is what I remembered from playing this as a child. Character models are hella jank and animation is basically Roblox characters on an acid trip talking with their hands like drunk Italians. Shoutout to Lady McFarlane's voice actress for perfectly capturing a delirious old bint who encourages you to stay strapped or get clapped, young man. Shoutout to Princess Fiona. Shoutout to Shrek McSomething. Puzzles are simple and the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is hard to see areas of interest due to the dated graphics. It also feels pretty random in picking up objects and not knowing why until you use them. I also suck at these games, because they don't make sense. Finally, it doesn't autosave, so you can get killed at a certain point and have to start over.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Games aight, good plot, very controlling, my name ander gingus. definately dont need a tutorial for it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game a ton when it came out so I'm probably biased. But this is a really fun one! If you grew up during the 90s/00s and played a ton of the point-and-click adventure games by The Adventure Company or Dreamcatcher then you'll know what to expect. Graphics are pretty dated (but were awesome when it came out!) but they still hold up pretty alright. Good little mystery game for a nostalgia flashback, or even someone who wants to get into that time period of 3D adventure games. Tip:…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall a pretty fun short point-and-click mystery game that will certainly challenge your gray cells. This game was released in 2001, so I do not think anyone expects the graphics to be all that pretty. The game gets a pass for age. Movement is very simple as it is a point-and-click game. It does not get much more simple than that. The story itself is interesting and kind of funny, although there are some confusing points. There are some parts of the game that you might get stuck on, as the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you've played Mystery of the Druids, this is arguably a better "bad" game, but it's still a terribly baffling [or bafflingly terrible] point and click adventure with; Laughable cut-scene models and animations. They make the MotD characters look good by comparison. Nausea-inducing node-based travel (fixed points with a fully rotating camera view,) Some of the most infuriating navigation ever to grace a computer. (Maze-like corridors with incongruously changing angles and repeating…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Cameron Files: The Secret At Loch Ness is, a game? Look, I know it came out in 2001- EIGHTEEN years ago, but so did Halo. And Max Payne FFX, GTA 3, Pro Skater 3, hell, EVEN SONIC ADVENTURE 2. We were capable of making good games back then, but this? This ain't it. To start off with my numerous gripes with the game, after clicking it took 1:20 seconds to get through the exposition at the begining. This was BEFORE the title screen- after clicking new game it took another MINUTE AND FIFTEEN…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If the game is crashing for you - YOU MUST RUN THE GAME FROM YOUR C:\ [I had the game constantly crashing out after a view seconds of playing a video it would skip to the next part of the game until it had played all the intro vids and would be at the first gameplay section and then it would just crash to desktop with no error. Moving the install files from my secondary drive back to my c:\ let me play and 'enjoy' the game] Haven't started to play the game much yet.. only just got it working.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice point and click, good story, intuitional mechanics, interesting riddles. It's not full 3D animated, more like Myst and sequels. In just one glimpse of an eye you see that it's a game released in 2001 (biggest con).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimer: I am not a big fan of these "point and click" type games because in almost all of them I feel like I am just randomly clicking on objects most of the game. This is true in this game even moreso than the majority of this genre. Movement is in the style of "The 7th Guest" PROS: -Fully voice acted CONS: -VERY dated graphics (low res is being kind) -Annoying movement system -Just randomly clicking everywhere. "Gameplay" consists of moving your mouse all over each view to see what…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wasting money to buy this one. unbalance price and quality
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sadly, the story is a bit short. although the game is old and the mechanics are cranky, I enjoyed it. the timer was not necessary for most of the puzzles. this game is perfect for hardcore fans of adventure games, point and click games or even people who like a bit of puzzles (they weren't that difficult).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have this game on a CD-ROM somewhere and I've tried playing this game multiple times since it released and literally never got through the first day. Tonight I changed all that and sat down and looked up a walkthrough just so I could experience this game that I've spent 23 years trying to beat and I've got to say I have mixed feelings. The main character is completely unphased when random things happen that you should probably freak out about (loch ness monster appearing and talking to a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I suck at point and click games so this didn't last very long. The animations are awful and the characters look terrifyingly disguisting and horrid! I went into every door I could, every floor I could, and couldn't figure out what do to. I'm not searching the whole mansion to find single items to continue a story, screw that. 0/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game goes no where!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legendary game, sometimes you don't know how to progress, but you figure it out using guides or just going around multiple times. Great game, great vibe
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a nice, old, relatively easy point & click game. It has its pros: it seems like a good one for the release date, it was moderately fun, the story was very clichéd, but entertaining nonetheless; and also its cons: most of the difficulty comes from pixel-hunting, which I don't particularly enjoy; some of the interactions are weird and hotspots are hard to differentiate (there's one near the end where you have to pull a lever, and you actually have two different ways to pull it, but they…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed this game very much. I enjoyed the story line. But, I really wish that Steam would add the second Cameron files game for purchase. I really enjoyed that one as well, but can not find it for Windows 10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reasonable. Not difficult. But if you like solving/finding things. If you get it cheap in a sale then it's worth for a bit of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is in the top 3 worst adventure games I've ever played. Just wow, incredibly ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first game of Cameron Files series, the second is about Egyptian ruler Amenophis. The average comment on the quality of this game is mediocre, if not bad. But after playing through it, I praise this game, I like its not-too-difficult-nor-too-easy puzzles. And the most important thing is, the game implies you what to do next, I think this is very important for an AVG game. Here I have to criticize Black Mirror. It's a polished gem in appearance, but doesn't give reasonable hints of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic point and click adventure. In this adventure game you navigate using your mouse, and click to move scenes. This is how a lot of older adventure games were done. I grew up playing games like this, so I enjoy the style even to this today. I hope they add the sequel to steam as well, The Cameron Files: Pharaoh's Curse.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ok i am not a fan of first person anything :) but I liked the idea and location of the game. Saving is more difficult than i would have liked... but for a game from 2001 this is quite fine really. I have only just started it, but I think it's worth trying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very bad!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No. And this is why: Pros: +In the boring starting video, I'm pretty sure that I've heard juggernaut (from dota 2) in there. +Voice Acting Cons: -The movement system made me sick, you just click on places and then you just appear in that place with a new picture in front of you, you just switch pictures until you are stuck in a room with no teleports locations. -You can restart your game from pause menu -_- -Bad graphics -No options at all -You can't stay at menu and hear you favorite song…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the animations and character designs are very B-movie styled like many other of microids works the story isn't actually about nessie but rather about the submarine below the "monster" and other things about crystals, a trisket, and destroying england the movement seems pretty good, the camera moves with the cursor and the cursor will change whenever it hovers over items of note, the icons are pretty clear about if you are the correct things or not, and it will be clear about what items you can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An enjoyably peculiar little romp, brought down by illogical puzzle design, and brought right back up again by some of the ugliest computer people I've ever seen. Technologically ambitious for a game from 1996, or at least it would be if it were not, in fact, from 2001. ProTip: To avoid game-breaking bugs, play it in SCUMMvm.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Cameron Files: The Secret at Loch Ness, developed and published by Microids, is a first-person point-and-click adventure that captures the spirit of early 2000s mystery games—both in its strengths and its shortcomings. Set against the atmospheric backdrop of Scotland’s most famous legend, it invites players into a slow-burning investigation that blends detective work with supernatural intrigue. While modern players may find some of its design choices dated, it remains a compelling example…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A qualified 'yes'. It's got a great story to it and it is very very absorbing. Lovely locale...good though sparse dialogues. It is addictive...and who doesn't like Nessie? Now the negatives are the timing, which kill you without fairness.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit confusing and easy to get lost, but the game is old enough that there is an UHS-hints file for it, which is very helpful, without spoilers. Slight issues getting it to work, but the solution is in the discussions. The character models are ugly, but the gameplay is good. Just save often, since there is permadeath.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did anyone actually play this mess? The graphics are horribly ugly, and in combination with those "look around" controls one can feel nauseous.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really thrilling and exciting Point&Click/Adventure game by Microids. Drive yourself into the charming adventure and solve the mystery of the ancient Scottish castle near the famous Lock Ness lake!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The electric chair in the cellar does not move and cut scene doesn't happen ! Please help !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game but some of the puzzles didn't make complete sense. Even the chain of events in point and click logic were misleading and not completely well linked. Most times I had to restart through timed scenes . What I'd recommend this game for would be the plot :) it's fun and interesting but utter nonsense!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it on sale, 1€, and I 'm happy with this. I finish the game (I 'm not always online) First of all, the game is completely outdated, graphics are sometimes bad, I see a lot of screenshots so I was aware of if. but it's that who make his charm. The music is basic, not good or bad. I Enjoy play it, look at the walktrought a few times. I will not play it again in the future, I love this kind of game, but this one is passable. I will recommend only for person who see some video and who…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tags: Adventure - WC - Walk Clicker Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Decent sound design but heavy stuttering in screen panning, animations, and cutscenes.
