Split verdict: fun co-op tower defense, but camera and controls frustrate many.
Many players enjoy the chaotic co-op tower defense gameplay, especially with friends. The game is praised for being fun, innovative, and a great couch co-op experience. [2][4][6][8][16][18]
However, a significant number of players criticize the camera controls and keyboard/mouse support. Some also report that multiplayer does not work properly, and the game feels unfinished. [5][20][21][22][23][25][26][28][30][32]

Mouse and keyboard controls are clunky at best, and it really feels like this game shouldn't be out of alpha yet. I'm really sad, because we were very excited about this game, and it just really isn't worth the money at this point
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Based on camera controls alone, this does not deserve your time. For some reason, the right joystick controls the height of the camera instead of its angle. It's also horizontally inverted by default. You have to wonder if this was playtested by anyone that has played a third person game before. Controls are sloppy and you spend most of your time mining and throwing resources, the tower defense part is just some awkward background noise.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You better have 3 friends or 4 monitors.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would be a really nice game, but playing it with mouse and keyboard is super annoying. The mouse constantly moves on the second monitor outside of the game... Had to unplug my second monitor in order to be able to play it. The game doesnt get any updates/fixes, so that wont change.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun game to play with your friends. There seems to be a solo mode, but I guess it was really meant to be played with other people.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mouse and keyboard support is pretty trash. Co-op doesn't work, friend joined okay, but couldn't do anything, the state of the game wasn't syncing correctly between players.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only played solo so far, but very fun, chaotic and challenging. The towers have fun interactions!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Glad the inverted camera for horizontal can be changed as its horrible but I hate you can't look up and down rather it slides the camera up or down. I don't like that you can't fight the enemies and just get stunned and knocked back touching them. The game is a little too basic I guess that explains the price a bit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game but camera view is 0/10 !
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Multiplayer doesn't work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hella fun with the bois
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing, innovative tower defense game! You have to craft your resources to upgrade towers. That definitely adds complexity! Co-op play is great -- so rare to have couch co-op these days, and they nailed it! Most of the complaints I see are about the camera and poor keyboard/mouse support. It's true the camera is different from other games, but once you invert in the settings, you get used to it pretty quickly. After 5 minutes it felt perfectly natural. As for the keyboard/mouse support, the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cute little tower defense game. Perfect for kicking back and hanging out with friends.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played the first 3 map enjoyed the premise and look forward to it just got some controlling gripes 1 used KBM had game pad controlls on screen 2 mouse wasnt locked to the game and was constantle moving out of the game window causing disruption 3 cammera was only left right and vertically up down not rotating around charater it was weird i am hopefull and look forward to the future of this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wont the last map with -6 health. 10/10 would love to win again with negative 6 health
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why is this game so funny ^^ Played both solo and multi, it's a lot of fun to play with your friends!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't work, and i got this off a fanatical bundle
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If it's on sale, it's worth it. For the $12 ask I think it's a bit rough. Unfortunately I have to vote "thumbs down". It is an enjoyable tower defense game and, unlike a lot in the genre, you actually rely on the towers rather than it being essentially a third person shooter that also has towers sometimes. The main loop is to harvest resources, build towers, refine those resources into higher level variants, build better towers. The resources are all handled manually, meaning you have to pick…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →games so poorly done and hard to control. like why...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overcooked meets tower defense. Probably meant for 3-4 players for the later levels. The camera work is not great, which makes it hard to enjoy the carnage. What is even more annoying is that the camera angle keeps changing, so you have to auto correct it every few seconds.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs more dwarves.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →remote play does not work. looks like a fun game. camera is weird on some angles that cant be changed
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game. Cool mechanic with gathering / throwing resources to the towers to upgrade them. Would be fun if it had more people playing but thats not the devs fault. Overall would recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Insano game, only the most dedicated and worthy dwarves will truly master this game. This game is harder than a dwarvern brew so bring friends.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I desperately NEED more towers on the map so that may bad APM doesn't have me lose
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Banger game, works perfectly on the Steam Deck. Will be for sure my goto train-game for the foreseeable future. Can't wait to try it with friends,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So today I decided to release the original soundtrack I composed and produced for Tavernacle!, a coop tower-defense game released in 2023! 😃 I'm gonna release one track every week on Saturday. Here is the first one, Ale Before Battle! 😁🎶 youtu.be/Oscg0IN-ln4
unlabelledView post →Tavernacle! is a loud, chaotic, and deliberately silly cooperative defense game that blends elements of tower defense, resource gathering, and frantic real-time action into a distinctly dwarven fantasy setting. Developed and published by Dama Dama Games, the game centers on a simple but humorous premise: a group of beer-loving dwarves must defend their precious tavern and brewery from endless waves of enemies who threaten to destroy both their livelihood and their beloved alcohol supply. From…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →repetitive with no choices.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Serious vertigo
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thoroughly enjoyed, a great mini co-op game Would be great if more maps were added!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A chaotic, challenging, and most entertaining couch gaming split-screen experience. Tower defense in co-op is a recipe for success. Need more games like this one!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →had a blast playing this game with 3 friends! controls are a bit junky and mechanics get too overwhelming towards the end of each level, but the coop makes the chaos even more fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great game to play with friends. It's a mix of Tower Defense, Gathering, and Crafting. I always found Tower Defense games couldn't hold my interest for long, but the twists on the genre that Tavernacle adds, along with the ability to play with 1-4 players kept us playing for several hours. I purchased two copies for friends too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I think the idea of this game is fantastic, it's not terribly well executed. Camera controls are inverted by default and you're unable to change it which makes moving around painfully difficult for no reason. I haven't tried online coop but other reviews say it doesn't work. Add some settings to change controls and optimize coop and you have a thumbs up from me
