What people are saying
Mixed early access reception: praised for ambition, criticized for bugs and polish.
Many players praise the game's scope, atmosphere, and value for its low price, noting solid graphics and an immersive world. Some find the combat fun and the story promising despite minor issues. [1][3][10]
However, a significant number of players report game-breaking bugs, poor optimization, and clunky controls, especially with horse riding. Some feel the game was released too early and needs more polish before it's worth buying. [13][19][24][28][29]

60 of 77 · most liked firstTales of the Old Dominus – Great Setting, Terrible Execution I bought Tales of the Old Dominus right away because the medieval setting and the atmosphere of the city looked very promising. And yes — the world and idea behind it do have potential. You can feel that someone wanted to create a believable, gritty medieval experience. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives mostly end. The beginning of the game is awful. You are thrown straight into the action with no explanation at all.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of the Old Dominus shows promise, but in its current state, it’s not worth it. The game suffers from technical issues, poor optimization, weak combat, and a thin storyline. I had to double take if this was an actual full release and not an early alpha.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game. It is, at this early stage, not without issues. Positives: • The pricing is very low compared with the scope and ambition of the game. • Solid graphics visually. • Promising story. Negatives: • Somewhat bugged. • Poorly balanced fights. • Rather low performance. The negatives, to me at least, seems all to be polish related and fixable. This is NOT a broken game, though it probably would have been advisable to go with an early release and not a full release. But remember,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →* Starting to think this has been abandoned Every single forced quest there is a problem with advancing when completed not sure if the developer even tried playing it. Right from the first load in screen seeing another world load up and buildings. loot is constantly disappearing from inventory or chest in settlement. You get about 300 seconds before food spoils. Go to the logging camp and workers are swinging axes that you cant see. Cant cut trees down with an axe. Cant build on plots even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is why, as a solo dev myself and working on a game, I am scared as hell to release a game. The bad reviews so far in my opinion are way out of touch. Yes this game has huge ambition, yes there are some minor bugs, and yes there isn't much of a story so far, but how many games released have stories? So many games have none and yet are getting huge acclaim, most survival games are just "Go into the world and survive, may find some tidbits of story here and there". The story isn't that hard…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of Old Dmonius is an indie RPG, set in a kingdom fractured by corruption and civil war after the Battle of the Brides. You build your dominion by claiming settlements, managing resources, commanding forces, and pushing back against a collapsing political order, all within a large-scale sandbox-style structure. Pros ✔️ It is fully playable – For a project of this size, it does technically function from start to finish. ✔️ Impressive scope for a one-person project – What’s here is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just wrapped my first few sessions with Tales of Old: Dominus, and yeah… it’s got that gritty, Kingdom Come: Deliverance vibe but with more rebellion, more survival, and way more freedom in how you shape your character. You start off as Eric of Woldham, whose village gets torched and sister taken—classic revenge setup—but it unfolds into this layered open-world campaign where you’re not just swinging swords, you’re building a rebellion from the ground up. Combat’s no joke. It’s gory, weighty,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is why I am a bit upset with games that are released but broke. Look, this is not going to be a bashing review, but at it's current state, I would not buy this game. Even for the $15 the devel is asking for. Here's the deal, I like this game, I do. The plot is there, even though it's very loose. I eye candy is awesome. The music and all the audio is on par. It's the bugs. They are everywhere. The game stopper for me is loading up into the game to give it a go, and I'm falling through the…

unlabelledView post →Unfortunately this game needs a lot of bug fixes and optimizing. I've tried multiple times to enter the game and get through the very first stages and each time there's a big issue that leaves me to have to restart or reload. Keybinding does not work, couldn't even get it to reset so I couldn't use the radial menu. Extreme lag and I am aware that a 4060 isn't recommended, but I also had settings on medium/low for that reason. Mouse sensitivity in the settings does absolutely nothing to change…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice & well done "Adventure" game by a one person dev, who seems to be very attent & make this from the heart. Lots of Quests to solve, build your own settlement & seek for npc's that will help to expand & fight for freedom. Some small issues that can & will be solved (Like keybinds for riding the horse & smoother fights). Can become a VERY good game for a very nice price! Having fun !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty solid experience so far. The game feels realistic and there's a lot to do. Capturing and holding camps is a nice touch, definitely adds some strategy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-Terrible Voice acting, terrible graphs and crap ton of bugs. Refunded. Not touching this again.

This speaks volumes sadly, upon seeing that I quickly hit Refund in a hurry. If you want to take the chance on the game performance was good but there are many difficulties with the game. My most hated was the horse, steering it with the KB is horrible. It gets stuck too much. Combat I will warn everyone is not just hitting…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it through the holidays checking out games, this one I would avoid. For a title that is 1.0, this game seems really empty, its buggy as hell/glitches, falling through the world all the time. Combat seems alright which is one of the only positives, I only got to play 120mins, before I logged out in a cave and every reload since Im falling through the world, cant be bothered to restart just yet probably to get the same result. Avoid buying until this developer actually fixes some of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly for the price this game is a great deal. You can tell it was made with a lot of effort and care. The combat could be better but it’s still pretty fun once you get used to it and feels fair overall. There are some minor bugs but from what I’ve seen the dev is fixing them quickly based on the updates and announcements. What really surprised me is how good the NPCs and main characters look, they honestly feel close to AAA quality at times. The voice acting is way better than I expected…

In the year 2025 you probably expect your games to have charatcters and NPC's that don't all look like 'Inbred Special Needs Kids' this game is here to prove you wrong!. When your character speaks... just close your eyes and listen.. and tell me that your main character doesn't sounds Jon Heder...aka 'Napoleon Dynamite'. Which makes total sense... They really had no idea how to make their characters walk, fight, or worst of all talk normally. Every person you…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game and support the developer, especially since it's just one guy building this. And I'm not asking for a refund because I want to support him. However, this game is not quite ready for play. Like others, I ran into numerous minor bugs and glitches and one MAJOR bug. Some of the minor issues are: The game is a bit "rail roaded" in the beginning. It directs you exactly where to go and what to do, step by step, with very little player choice. I can only hope this…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was really surprised by how well the interiors of the houses are made. Everything has a lot of detail and it really feels like someone actually lives there lol I like that it’s not all about action, there are calm moments where you can just walk around and enjoy the scenery. The lighting looks great, especially at sunset or at night. You can tell they really paid attention to the atmosphere. Looks goooood
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually impressive for such a small team. The story’s interesting, and I love the “Claim Camp” mechanic, setting tents on fire looks nice, I like it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is made by a solo dev so there is some polish that is needed. But overall the game, especially the combat, is fun!

unlabelledView post →Tales of Old: Dominus is a medieval open-world action RPG developed by Hvmana Industries MMD and published by indie.io, aiming to merge survival mechanics, brutal combat, stealth systems, and kingdom-building into a single cohesive experience. Set in a harsh and politically fractured land, the game follows Eric of Woldham, a survivor of a devastating conflict that left his village destroyed and his family slain. From this tragic beginning, the narrative unfolds as a tale of revenge, ambition,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I do believe that this is going to be a game worth playing eventually, right now it almost made me refund it. Why you might ask? Because trying to turn yourself left/right/or around, is next to impossible. Trying to turn the horse on the other hand is so bad that I just quit the game. Trying to turn the horse is best described as trying to turn a heavy vehicle that is crossing over muddy terrain. Combat still needs a lot of work too. Enemies can dance around you while you struggle to turn…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend this game in it's current state, the game needs a lot of work to become enjoyable, but I like the idea, I just can't get over the American accents in a medieval setting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far, the story and characters are solid. Animations look good, UI’s clean, and overall it feels like a lot of care went into this. Definitely worth playing more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't cancelled the purchase yet, but if there are no patches soon, I will.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought to support the DEV and the game. (UPDATED - There are a lot of game breaking bugs being encountered, WAit for the first patch to see if the DEV can fix them before buying) Is it a buy? im hoping for £10 bucks youl get your moneys worth. I played the demo and was interested from that. I think I sank 2hrs in the demo and today 86 minutes on the release version. I have experienced a few crashes already, trying to place the first camp bed in the mine, the world just dissapeared and i…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it as soon as it released, and I only played it for 15 minutes (I'll have more time later). Even though it's a bit rough on the edges, you can clearly see the passion and commitment of the team. The gameplay is good; voice acting is great; graphics is a bit "generic", but still nice. It doesn't want to be KCD but it has its own identity. The price tag is perfect, especially during the initial launch. I'm sure the team will address bugs and polish the game during the next few weeks.

unlabelledView post →This guy needs to be commended for just how much there is in this game (handclap emoji). I feel like it's really an early access game and the dev probably burned himself out with trying to update and patch everything, then just went silent. I hope they are still around because right now this game is guilty fun but it has the potential but quite extraordinary if they really ironed out the bugs, got a little better sound mastering, and added controller support for us lazy folk. This game has…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has something that makes you want to keep playing. I don’t know if it’s the atmosphere or how the world is built, but it really pulls you in. Looks well done in general, a few loading areas should load buildings faster but not a big deal so far. It’s not perfect, but it has its own personality that shows right from the start. The map is big and fun to explore, and the enemies actually make you think about how to fight them. For the price, I think it’s really good, even if there’s…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty solid game overall. I went in not expecting too much, but it honestly caught me off guard in a really good way. The story feels interesting right from the start, and the characters actually have personality and depth, which is something you don’t see often in small indie games. The dialogues feel natural, and the world feels alive enough that you actually want to explore and see what’s going on. Combat takes a little while to get used to, especially with the timing and stamina, but once…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the game and honestly it has a really good atmosphere. The cities are well made and the villages feel realistic. There are some bugs but nothing serious, it’s totally playable. If you have an older PC or a weak GPU it might run slower, but on medium it looks good. You can change a lot of graphics settings to make it work better. From what I’ve seen so far the story is good and the characters are interesting. Taking over camps is fun and something you can repeat, but it’s not that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I can see the games potential as well as the many issues with this game, the combat system defiantly needs to be revisited and polished as it is to slow and broken almost impossible to get a hit on your target though the game does not seem rather challenging, I am also aware that this is an early access release and it even states that it was built over a period of three years by mostly one individual the game itself could make for a great play and story once it is fully released and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this game was made mostly by one person? If so, that's really impressive. It’s cheap, fun, and way better than I expected for the price. Totally worth a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn’t expect this much detail from a small dev team. The voices and conversations are great, the map is big, and there’s a ton to do. Feels like a true medieval simulator. Worth supporting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →buggy and lagy ass hell cant aim sins i over schoot or walk sins i walk to far cant kick where i am aiming stealt dos not work sins i cant even see where i am going all thanks to LAG
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What I liked the most is the feeling of traveling across the map. Riding your horse through paths, crossing rivers, or going through forests feels very natural. There’s a nice variety of areas and the weather changes quite a bit, which makes everything feel more realistic. I also like that the game doesn’t hold your hand, you can explore at your own pace and discover things on your own. Seems like a good game to play for a long while. Good price too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the game for a bit and it’s pretty good. I really like how the story is set up and the atmosphere feels great. You can tell the dev put a lot of effort and care into the world. There are a few small bugs here and there but nothing serious. I saw some reviews saying the combat wasn’t that good, but after trying it myself I actually found it fun. Enemy patrols can take you down fast if you’re not careful, so it keeps things interesting. Overall it feels well done and I’d definitely…
