Developer Nival
Silent Storm is a 2003 turn-based tactics video game developed by Nival Interactive and published by JoWooD. The game is set in a fictionalized World War II Europe with science fiction elements. An advanced game engine, the Silent Storm engine, was developed for the game and reused in several later titles. Silent Storm was followed by the expansion Silent Storm: Sentinels in 2004. The reason I don't recommend the steam version is that this is lacking some files, making it impossible to finish the game but also graphical issues like no shadows and proper lightning. Buy the gold edition on GOG instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a classic for the ages, I highly suggest any TRPG(XCOM/X-COM, Fire Emblem, etc) fans give this a look especially if it's on sale. The mix of completely destructible environments, wide arsenal, and character classes give these games hours of gameplay; Silent Storm puts players in an alternate history scenario during World War II in which they investigate a conspiracy amongst the Nazi government to produce occult and technologically advanced weapons via an alliance with the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →💥 Many popular turn based tactics have destructible environments, but its often tile-based and quite limited. In this game, even the smallest chunks of wall can be destroyed, and it actually plays a big role in gameplay: you can create holes anywhere and attack enemies through them, breach walls to reach objectives from unexpected positions, or deny access to enemies. Its all works in tandem with verticality too! You can ragdoll drop unconscious targets through floor holes to pick them up…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was way ahead of its time in turn-based squad strategy and its a shame we haven't seen anything like it since
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silent Storm, developed by Nival Interactive and published by THQ Nordic, stands as one of the most ambitious and technically impressive turn-based tactical games of its time. Released in the early 2000s, it dared to combine the meticulous strategy of squad-based combat with role-playing progression, destructible environments, and a semi-fictional World War II narrative that gradually slides into the realm of science fiction. What makes Silent Storm remarkable even years later is how seamlessly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this weird russian game that came out 17 years ago is strangely the only one of its type that exists. a turn-based tactical game using an action point system (like in xenonauts or jagged alliance) while also having a decent physics engine. grenades can roll around, bodies can ragdoll, enemies can be blown out of windows by explosions and stray bullets will destroy windows, door and furniture. you can even target certain parts of the body and headshots will sometimes decapitate people. the most…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is too old to enjoy. I used to like it when it was first released, but it has not aged well at all. Can't shoot from cover, hit chances are screwed up, leveling is so broken that you should never ever pick engineer since unless you use exploits they will never have high enough skills, equipment that shouldn't be limited is limited, etc. The story is bland and the voice acting is bad. Compared to games like fallout, the mechanics fall short in almost every category. I mean there are things…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best game in the genre in terms of combat and weapons, hands down. And I only played it for the first time a few years ago. If someone made this game with no Panzerkleins, and added the replayability of XCOM, I would never stop playing it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing. X-Com meets WW2 meets physics. If this sounds appealing to you in the slightest, just buy it. The German campaign has the more hilarious voice-acting, so I'd recommend you do that first. Have good war!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hidden gem and dangerously good. The desctruction models are best to date, even better than in X-com remakes. The ballistics are very satisfying, shooting an blowing your way through walls and foes in concentrated bursts. The basic grind of leveling your characters can get boring, the missions are pretty straightforward until you proceed with the story. Shooting and looting carries the experience pretty well! The AI isn't great, but level design allows you to get surprised regardless. Loads of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only 2 genders available! What a shock! :D Recommend for sure!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This a great for those who enjoy old school simple graphics and a lot of fun game play, almost totally destructible environment, including bullet penetration, always get a tickle shooting and enemy that thinks there safe behind a wall only to be sniped through it. there a lot weapons and equipment to choice from, and missions that ways to approach several different ways, tripling replay value. This is a good one to return to when i get annoyed with other modern titles that fail to deliver…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pure garbage. Not only does it run like a virus in the background (when you try to uninstall it claims the application is still running even though you exited it and nothing is in the task management) but it's also a buggy crapshoot of a title that has multiple bugs, crashes to desktop, and clunky all around. If it was good in the good old days then it should've stayed there. I'm tired of old titles trying to be modernized without any work being done to run on modern systems, thus getting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've enjoyed this game for years. Not many games keep the joy of playing that long.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is what I wish these types of games still were. I bought this on disc when it first came out and it just never gets old for me. A few years will go by and I play it again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the best old school TU games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best turn based tactical rpg I've ever played. We command the team up to 6 characters in late WW2 alternative scenario. It has leveling system, 6 unique classes, 40 unique team members, skills, perks, lots of weapons and tools, nice soundtrack and destructible environment. However, game is not for beginners in this genre, can be very difficult without proper planning, has bad voice acting (but I found it more funny than annoying). With Gold Edition we get two games: Silent Storm (a.k.a. S2)…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[ Updated my review in 2020 : just to add a few points* ] * First, note that it is really two games in one : the first campaign called Silent Storm (game was good though has some issues and requires a patch for the last mission) and then Sentinels which is a complete expansion that improves many aspects. Though it is from 2004, it has tactical mechanics and systems that are rather in-depth and hardcore (for example, building floors and walls break down from grenades, enemies can detect you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best ''Strategy (turn based), RPG'' games that I ever played. Highly recommended and here's why: - nice story; - experimental weapons from Wrold War 2 (Panzerkleins, lasers and nukes); - EVERYTHING is destructible (Houses, trees, cars etc.); - you can gather weapons from fallen enemy soldiers, and find more in hidden places such as - attics, hidden boxes, basements etc. You can use them in next battles or just collect them and put them in your storage that's located at your H.Q; -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A product way ahead of its time. So many fantastic little details modern strategy games don't even think of. A great light RPG system makes you feel and notice your squads development and the destructible environments add a new level of strategic thinking. However cheesy the voice acting is, this is one of the most intense turn-based strategy games I've ever played. The biggest issues I have faced with this game so far are some weird visibility issues between my characters and enemy units and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silent Storm is an old game with dated graphics and a limited character customisation pool. But its appeal was never on its looks, no. Detail and weapon variety, an interesting alternate universe plot, and a completely destructible environment all mixed together to make this a great game, if niche. My account below is purely for the Steam version, without any outside patches. EDITED (18.07.24): Here's the link to all the neat little patches to improve your experience with this absolute gem:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great game till you get to the panzerkline part and it literally turns to garbage at that point and becomes unplayable, pointless game. I wouldn't recommend this game as you will be so disappointed with it like no other game you have ever played to date, yes it gets that bad. Go play fallout 2 or jagged alliance 2 instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still the best tactical i played over 20 years after its release. Not about nostalgia, just best mechanics and physics. Just don't understand how it didn't got rebooted, modernized.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the all time best, turn based action games out there. I spent hundreds of hours on this game with my best friend when we were teens - great times and it really still holds up!! Deep mechanics - easy to learn - hard to master!! Pro Tip: the numbers on your num pad can be used to aim at respective body parts. 1 and 3 are the legs. 4 and 6 are the arms, 5 the chest. 8 is the head. This is never explained in game but can deicde a crucial moment, by crippling the enemy, or dealing bonus…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although I like elements of this game I think there are too many things I'm not keen on. Pros There's a decent array of weapons, it's not all that obvious I think for beginners how to equip the inventory and make sure the ammo matches the weapons etc but I kinda figured it out and I think the idea of familiarity with a weapon makes sense. The game mechanics (combat etc) seemed broadly OK. I thought the idea of being able to hear the enemy (in cases where you can't see them) was a good…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has no modern monitor resolution support that makes it very unpleasant to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AI is broken in the Steam version. Most enemies stand even if they are being fired upon. GOG version work well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They will kill every one of us
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good turned based tactics combats. sometimes non trivial missions. last mission has bag that prevents finishing the game - final boss just won't spawn, even after applying unoffical patch. i do recommend the game for people who are ready to not finish the game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice tactical RPG. You can shoot throught walls and destroy surroundings. I like this game very much
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game deserves a lot more love. Great game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silent Storm is a game that deserves more love and recognition. It's an excellent entry into the turn based combat + strategy game genre, if you're into these types of games and you enjoy them then this should be in your library. It's got the core mechanics at heart - Action Points based movement, team based turns (You, Enemy, Neutrals) and reaction fire (called an Interruption, in this game it lets you choose how you wish to spend your "Interruption AP") and % based hit chance combat (which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best tactical turn-based Role-Playing-Game !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeesh. This game aged super poorly. The intro and menu alone feel dated and low budget in modern times, which I didn't recall being the case when I first played this many, many years ago. The gameplay itself, while okay, did nothing to keep my attention like it once did. While I enjoyed this game a long time ago, as of 2020 - I'd recommend you pass on this title. Even at a steep discount, there are much better and more enjoyable games that offer this same style of game play. Not worth your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best turn based games to date! Destructible environment, great turn based mechanics!!! It is only a shame that it is not continued or even updated/patched :(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4 rounds of shooting 0 hits My guys have 11% chance to hit at 10 distance and take 3 hits themselves. This game is like an even more incompetent version of X-Com when it comes to every negative aspect of X-Com combat.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WHY IS THIS GAME NOT THE STANDARD? 1 hour in and already amazed at the mechanics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →utterly stupid game. I had a 100% indicated success at a shot and still missed. then there was the fact some other enemy were supposedly hidden (I couldnt hit them 0%) yet they could hit me (and they killed that recruit).. honestly the 'difficulty' in this game is being able to hit anything as the player. not worth playing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Any Fan Of Turn Based Tactics Would Die Feeling Incomplete Until You Beat This And Jagged Alliance 2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If Jagged Alliance took place during WW2. The environment destruction is something you don't see in games like this, which is a nice touch. I wish they would make a new one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an amazing game!!! I love everything!! It's old, so it has bad graphics, but It's so good, that it makes you ignore that!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game from the past. strategic squad base shooter. Play through solo a couple of times. special random encounter add a ton of fun and special weapons. wish more games played like this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man.... this one takes me back. I loved this back in the day. The flow of gameplay isn't super intuitive, but after a couple of hours spent getting back up to speed... it was every bit as fun as I remembered. This game is pretty light on story, but super crunchy squad based RPG combat. Loads of weapons to keep the gun nerd satisfied. Super goofy voice acting. Environmental destructibility is better than most games coming out today and this one is ~20 years old. Just finished up my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →underrated classic
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Helena wouldn't appear in the final scenario. Couldn't finish the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silent Storm is a nice enough game with some fresh ideas combining some features of UFO: Enemy Unknown, and Jagged Alliance II in a World War 2 setting. I liked it but there are several shortcomings. While the potential for a really great game is there the game lacked base management, a really long and diversified campaign (20 main missions plus a number of random missions with these graphics are not so much and once you have obtained Panzerkleins the balancing is mostly broken) and suffered…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this games ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ and coming from a fan of xcom
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game should have been the benchmark for all turn-based tactics games like the XCom remakes and those that came afterwards. It has the best physics in the genre and a solid loot, inventory and skill progression system. Instead, we now have 2 actions per turn and full cover, half cover or no cover... yay! Welcome to the age of hollow presentation casual dice throwing console port games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game with very annoying bugs and stupid panzerkleins.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was great when it was release a long time ago. The Gold edition from Steam is buggy like hell. You can't finish the boss level. Boss is missing. I contacted their Technical support and refused to acknowledge the problem, like this is new to them, when this has been discussed for more than 2 years on this forum. Some managed to install an unofficial patch to finish the game. It did not work for me. Don't buy it unless if you have too much money to spend, or never finish your games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silent Storm Gold Edition is an ancient game from 2004. It's a whopping 21 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. This is a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had this game twenty years ago and it's still a very good game for fans of turn-based strategy games. I remembered this was a good game, but it was better. Good ww2 atmosphere and destruction.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →works Great on steam deck Especially with community custom layout Has semi random missions (they are kind shuffled every new try) + rpg like elements For sure recommended to buy
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As the conflict rages on the frontlines, you’ll be also raging at some of the bullcrap this game pulls, but ultimately, it can be pretty fun, it just doesn't pull any punches. If you are looking for a challenging turn based tactics game, this one is definitely a good choice - along with the Silent Storm: Sentinels (which I am not sure if it's an expansion pack that runs separately or sequel or whatever, but it's pretty much more of the same, which is a good thing). Unfortunately, the Steam…
